- - - - - -Callahan was in the chemistry lab, his ghetto blaster boom box blasting 'Sabatoge' by Beastie Boys at an obnoxious volume as he screamed the lyrics at his best friend. Seph sat in a small chair toward the front of the lab, leaving the red-headed boy to his work. Or, he called it work. In actuality, it was just Cal fucking around with the chemicals to make some weird shit. He was bored and setting things ablaze was a favored hobby of his. Seph had the tendency to look along, but Cal was smart enough not to let his friend play around with anything flammable. Seph wasn't dangerous or anything - he was just a little too curious for his own good. Callahan was smarter than that. Much smarter and everyone knew it.
- - - - -Ah, Seph. Cal wouldn't ever admit it aloud, but he truly did care for the psychotic bastard. He was an overly kind, passive creature who followed the red-head without question, which was nice. Cal like the attention. And I mean really liked the fucking attention. He needed minions to live and Seph was perfect for the job. There, was, however, a problem with this. Joseph was crazy - as were they all - but to a different extent. Cal was crazy in that his empathy was strong - so he felt things. All the fucking time. It was terrible. Seph was relaxed, not a danger to anyone. Except himself. He just had so many ideas - so many questions. Most of them involved his almost sick fascination with pain. How did he come to this?
- - - - -Casually, he glanced down at the yellow band that adorned his frail wrist, a handcuff as far as he was concerned. It was this that only allowed him access to the chemistry lab when Seph was there to authorize it. It was this that kept him confined to this horrible institution. It was this that was made to shield the world from the scars from where he'd slit his wrists all those months ago. To this day, Cal didn't know if he wanted to kill himself or not. He was smart. He knew how to cut himself so that he couldn't be saved, but he didn't. He couldn't remember why and it drove him mad thinking about it.
- - - - -Callahan forced those thoughts aside. They were pathetic, he reminded himself. He focused instead on the chemicals before him. "Hey Seph, can you grab me some DI water?" he asked, pulling a few bottles forward. Sulfiric acid, he thought, rummaging through bottles until coming across the one he needed, with a yellowish liquid sloshing around. He then went on the hunt for copper, but was off-put by the fact that Seph hadn't responded to him yet.
- - - - -He moved from his place, snapping his fingers in front of the boy's face. Oh, for fuck's sake, he was thinking again, wasn't he? "Seph," he tried. Then the red-head rolled his eyes. "Joey! Sephie! Josie! Jo-Anna! Jo-Jo! Wake up!" He threw out every horrid nickname he could think of. "Don't try anything stupid, you little shit. And get me some DI water, will ya?"
