a character in “We're the Abominations -The Heroes Offspring”, as played by TheFlag

Description

.:Name: Madoc (Doesn't have a offical name.)

.:Gender: Male

.:Age: Seventeen

.:Status: Super-Abomination Image

.:Personality: Madoc is fairly reserved and quiet, he has a open mind and accepts what he sees, and he doesn't judge others deeming it beneath his dignity, which he holds in very high regards this can be seen as prideful but he simply doesn't want to sink to their level. Madoc in most cases is socially inept, he finds it hard to talk and communicate with others properly, and get his point across, this has led him to be a loner and avoid social contact with others. Madoc is also most of the time emotionally distant, and tries not to dwell in the past finding it either to painful or depressing, he instead looks at the future and tries to be a optimist, which mostly annoys others as he always tries to look on the bright side. Madoc doesn't really have a morality, due to thinking it just a justification of the human mind, for a concept that doesn't exist however he is generally nice person, who always tries to what he sees as the right thing, which is his views on the matter. Although socially awkward, he is rather quick witted, and deeply sarcastic, as he makes light on dark and disturbing situations. His humour is mostly a coping mechanism for his current situation, which he uses as a substitute for fear, and deep down he is deeply afraid.

.:Appearance Madoc is fairly skinny, and of average height for a male of his age which is 5"10' not a lot of muscle clings to Madoc but his look is deceiving, as he is fairly strong. Madoc's face is a pale shade, as if the blood has trouble circulating, his face is fairly smooth and his lips puff out along with his cheeks giving him a fairly clear complexion. His hair is a dark black, which curls upwards naturally, it's thick and parts like a feather he however brushes it down to maintain his usual appearance his hair is fairly short as it doesn't go past his neck. Madoc's eyes are a luminous shade of green, with a tint of blue at each iris, they're bloodshot from lack of sleep and seem to stick out. His facial features are small and defined, and also have a steely gaze which defies any trace of emotion.

.:Superpower:
~ Reality Warping: Madoc can bend the laws of reality, but it is extremely hard and it goes around that his belief of what he beleives is reality. Although this ability sounds impressive, it is largely unuseful, as he has to beleive in it 100% and doing simple tasks requires a immense amount of effort, and mostly the effects are frail and temporary. For example he couldn't alter the whole Earth let alone the Universe, but he can alter small areas and impose his will in this area and others, and he couldn't exert his will for long since it is severely draining. He could do this to a small area for a few minutes, before having to stop. If he overuses his ability, he'll cause physical harm to himself, mostly in the form of seizures. Due to being in the institute he doesn't have a clue on how to use this ability.

~ Immortality: This ability stems from Madoc's first ability, when he was young he was so afraid of death, that he convinced himself that he couldn't die, his primary ability manifested this. This isn't the usual sense of immortality however, he can die but he can't stay dead, for example after he dies, he'll slowly begin to regenerate lost limbs and heal wounds, until finally reviving himself, the process varies from a hour to a whole day, depending on the severity of the injury. This function is passive, and he doesn't have a choice in the matter.

.:Weapons: None.

.:History: Madoc was abandoned, and left at a local Orphanage, abandoned by his Parents, he grew up there with a dull prespective of life, he was raised there with other children, who he didn't fit in with, they usually left him out of their games, making him slightly resentful. As he grew up, he focused mostly on School, motivated on moving out of the slums and into somewhere he belonged, as with most areas he felt alone and isolated. In his spare time he mostly went on long walks alone trying to figure out why he was here, he pondered this all the time, and this made him depressed often, him being alone didn't help the situation. When Madoc hit 9 his powers began to manifest, and he began uncontrollably doing bizarre things, which of course attracted the attention of the Institute.

However due to the unpredictability of his power, they weren't sure he had one, and were wary of his simply observing him. Madoc kept spotting black vans out of the corner of his eye, but surprisingly he wasn't confirmed to have a power until he was 11, which was a case of when he accidentally altered the laws of gravity on a small area. In the Institute was were he developed his irrational fear of death, which caused his first ability to manifest his second ability Immortality. This ability was founded much later by the Institute which took full advantage of him not being able to die. They put him through immense amounts of pain and called him a abomination, this not only made him deeply afraid of them, but it gave him a determination to escape from their grasp. He became increasingly withdrawn, until it was rare to hear him speak. H

.:Other: Has a irrational phobia of clowns.

So begins...

Madoc's head turned on the gurney and he groaned incoherently, his head drifted to the side as his eyes slowly opened: for the last couple of hours he'd been dead, his neck had been snapped after being put through a immense amount of pain, they severed his spinal cord and the only way his body would reconstruct itself is if he died, so they murdered him quickly and quietly of course and delivered him back here. Madoc tested his restraints still groggy from just waking up, hoping they'd forget to tighten them, but as always they were tight. Madoc fumbled around pulling the restraints as hard as he could, they however stayed in place perfectly fulfilling their role: after a few seconds passed Madoc gave up, and laid his head on the pillow breathing deeply, the occasional whimper escaped from his lips.

Another few motionless seconds seemed to pass, he tried to warp reality rid himself of these restraints, but of course he didn't believe he could that and the people told him he couldn't, which was his ultimate weakness, his abilities relied on believing and being told lies could easily become reality if he believed in them. Unsatisfied Madoc muttered to himself, "Why..?" he repeated this phrase, which gave him slight comfort as he lay there quietly. His eyes flicked around as he saw the others, they were like him, in the same situation and although he knew he was not alone, he felt completely alone in this dark place and being alone changes you in subtle ways, Madoc thought on this before shaking himself free of the darkening thoughts.

Madoc finally began to relax, forgetting everything for a brief moment. Taking comfort in the memories before he was brought here, a small but well defined smile covered his face. However the screams of others brought him back to reality, and he half scowled before sighing with sympathy. His head lay flat as another few minutes passed, until he noticed a man coming around undoing the straps for everyone, Madoc looked up and began waving frantically with his head, as he eventually undid his straps he was off as quickly as he came, Madoc hopped off the gurney which was now strangely and almost ominously silent. Until he noticed a plea of help, Madoc twisted his head in a vague direction, his eyes settled on something covered in a white sort of powder she was thrashing, he got the impression that she was female due to her voice, no one must have noticed her because she was hard to spot.

"I don't want to die here." Madoc twisted wincing from the girls plea, before he quickly ran over to her gurney, "Are you okay..?" he quickly spoke, his voice was dry and frantic, as he waved his arms quickly undoing her straps. He had never worked this quickly before, but the adrenaline generated from the escape was helping, he finished her left arm and darted around her other side beginning to undo the other. "I'll get you out of here. Don't worry!" his voice echoed panic, but also reassuring as he quickly worked on undoing her restraints.

"Are you okay...?" There was a voice, a boy's voice, and Naomi whimpered in reply, half in relief and half in fear. The fear buzzed through her veins along side the drug and made her head buzz. At least he can see me, she thought, wondering what she looked like with powder covering her naked skin. She was too exhausted to be embarrassed by her nakedness and she hoped that he was too frantic to think about it either, but if they had to run for it, the powder would probably come off and she would be completely invisible. If they had to run for it, she might as well not leave at all; she would be useless running blind. ""I'll get you out of here. Don't worry!" The boy said quickly and began tugging at her restraits. Being invisible would probably be useful if it didn't make her blind as well.

"Thank you," she breathed, adrenalin pulsing through her blood and making her heartbeat throb in her ears. "I can't see anything. I mean, I'm blind," she explained, feeling the restraints loosen and her wrists ache with the relief. She didn't know how to become visible again because she'd never had the chance to understand her power and she didn't even know whether she could turn back with the drugs still in her system. At least someone was helping her now. "What's happening" She asked as the boy worked at her ankle. "Are people escaping?"

Madoc looked down slightly, as she explained that she was blind. He paused briefly, before shaking his head "It doesn't matter. I'm sure security won't be a problem." he chuckled dryly, they hadn't turned up yet and Madoc doubted they would. He resumed undoing her restraints and then began on her ankles. His breathing was beginning to get erratic, and unpredictable, sometimes he was out of breath, and sometimes he had to much probably due to the excitement. His mind wandered, if they could actually escape he didn't have the slightest clue where he'd go, he had not seen the outside world for six years, but he'd work it out as he went along, he always did.

Madoc began undoing her final ankle, he kept checking behind him scared that something may burst through: as he was working on her ankle she asked "What's happening? Are people escaping?" Madoc paused slipping her last restraint off, before answering honestly "I think so... I'm not so sure." his head cocked sideways as he listened to the alarm, "Maybe, it's a elaborate test of some sort..? No, no, no. Let's just get out of here." he stopped for a second, if he couldn't see her and she couldn't see, guiding her out would be trouble. Madoc searched for her arm, before grabbing hold of it, "I'll have to escort you out. Is that okay?" he paused unsure for a moment, before shaking his head he tried to coax her off the gurney so they could get going.

Naomi slipped her feet down to the floor, finding it freezing under her bare feet. The boy wrapped his hand securely round her arm and she felt... well, almost safe. She shook her head gently, knowing she was no where near safe, but it had been so long since someone had touched her. It felt wonderful. There was a rumble, like a distant explosion, maybe it was a distant explosion. She didn't have a clue what was happening. Other than this could be it - the moment she'd spent every dark night and day dreaming about: escape. She dreamt about feeling a cool breeze on her skin again or the sun in her hair. "I'll have to escort you out. Is that okay?" He asked and she nodded, then remembered he couldn't see her.

"Yes, it's fine. Thank you." She moved forward cautiously, leaning on the boy. She remembered the first time she turned invisible. She thought she'd blacked out, but could still move around. That... episode lasted half an hour and it wasn't until after that her aunt explained what was happening. She didn't have a chance to get used to her power, or used to moving around without being able to see, before she was dragged off to the institute. "I'm Naomi," she muttered as he led her forward.

"I'm Naomi." the girl muttered, Madoc nodded in response as he took her arm more firmly, "I'm Madoc." he replied half-heartedly, as his eyes scanned the room he saw a door on his left which had already been kicked off its hinges, someone had been through there recently, a possible escape route which gave Madoc a flare of hope. He slowly began to walk towards the door, while gently tugging Naomi's arm, "C'mon I think this way, might lead us out." he doubted it would lead anywhere particular, but it looked like a safe bet.

As he slowly approached the door he peered through the door's frame to see a gloomy hallway, he tried to stay silent as he walked through this hallway, but occasionally stumbled due to having guide Naomi. His head twisted around, focusing on what appeared to be the girls face, "What can you do..? Uh... your abilities?" he rephrased his question, trying to start some sort of conversation, to ease his nerves as in all fact he was terrified he knew he couldn't die, but he feared the punishment he'd received, also the girl because he felt responsible for her at the moment, which was a weight on his gut making him more nervous.

As he slowly opened the door, he saw a window near the ceiling as well as several of the occupants frozen to the wall, Madoc's eyes widened as he saw the possible escape route, ice was scattered everywhere, the windows bars were melted, and most of the people had gone. The path was clear as he slowly guided the girl, "There's a window here, I can push you through and we'll be able to get out of here." he paused a look of worry creased his face, "It seems someone else is their main priority." he turned and began slowly approaching the window, carefully stepping over the ice and avoiding the people stuck to the wall. "C'mon I'll push you out." he tried to push the girl through carefully, while trying to follow behind.

Naomi took a deep breath, trying to work out whether there was glass she could cut herself on or staff members that would hurt her, but Madoc assured her they weren't focused on them. "I can turn invisible," she said, answering his question. "But it makes me blind. It's like the light bends around me so it doesn't reach my eyes." It was comforting to talk, even at a whisper. It reminded her that she wasn't tied down to her bed anymore, that this wasn't all a dream. "I can't control it." She added, feeling the edge of the window with her hands as Madoc nudged her through it. She had no idea what was on the other side, but it was cold, a lot colder than it had been in the institute. She suddenly wished the staff had thought to keep her dressed, but if she was wearing clothes, she wouldn't be completely invisible. Well, she was assuming. "They kept me on drugs to keep me invisible all the time. I don't know why."

She swallowed, an stood up on the other side of the window, without Madoc's hand around her arm she felt vulnerable, lost. She bit into her lip to stop her whimpering. "Erm... what's your power?" Keep talking, she thought. It would take her mind off whatever they were doing. She didn't even know where they were going.

Madoc cocked his head sideways curiously, as the girl spoke about her ability "I can turn invisible," she paused, before continuing "But it makes me blind. It's like the light bends around me so it doesn't reach my eyes." then she added,"I can't control it." Madoc's lips turned into a painful smile, before he let out a small, dry and almost bitter laugh "I know the feeling." Madoc gave a push finally pushing Naomi through the window.

After a few seconds passed Madoc grabbed the edge of the window, before scurrying against the wall and pushing himself through, "They kept me on drugs to keep me invisible all the time. I don't know why." Naomi spoke again she seemed cold outside, "How long do these drugs last for?" Madoc asked, trying to keep the conversation going, as he shoved himself through the window. It was a lot colder outside, and he shuddered but then looked helplessly at Naomi she must be freezing, he figured he could find her some clothes some way or another.

"Erm... what's your power?" she asked, which caused Madoc to shudder slightly before muttering something incoherently, "I don't thin- no wait... no." he paused and rephrased his words, "I think I can alter reality... but the institute were more focused on something else..." he paused early, sounding nervous not wanting to say that he was immortal, he'd open that can of worms later, he already sounded like a freak and he didn't want to go into overdrive with it.

His eyes looked around the area they were in, scanning the details. It was a small narrow alley that they had emerged from. Madoc looked carefully to the ground before trying to formulate a plan, he couldn't think of anything. He turned towards Naomi, "Let's find somewhere to rest, or something..." his hand gently grabbed Naomi's, before he began looking at which way to go.

Naomi wasn't sure how long the drugs lasted; she'd never really been aware of how much time was passing between each... appearance. "Maybe a few hours," she replied, but it was a guess. She was beginning to shiver as Madoc took her hand a gently led her forward. His power sounded amazing, a lot more useful that hers anyway. Being invisible would be great if she could see. Maybe one day she'd get used to moving around blind, but not any time soon. Altering reality would be so much more amazing. You could do anything. She knew he wasn't telling her everything, but she wasn't bothered; after being tortured the way they all had, everyone was entitled to their privacy. She let Madoc lead her forward, trying to predict when there would be a drop or a rise on the ground.

In some ways, she hoped she would feel the drugs draining out of her system, at least then she could warn him when it was about to happen. After all, she wasn't wearing any clothes, which would explain her shivering while his hand was strong around hers. She stumbled a little over a pebble. "Where do you think the others went?" She asked, distracting herself from her thoughts. They couldn't have just vanished. They're not like her.

Madoc paused before choosing the route they were closest too, as he tugged Naomi's arm forward he avoided the debris on the floor. As they emerged out of the alley onto a new road, which seemed deserted apart from the odd person which each looked slightly shady, the air smelled of pollution and the atmosphere was sour. His eyes gave them a quick glance before he and Naomi walked into the alley opposite the previous one, it was better not being seen: as not only did he look a fool, dragging something almost invisible, but he didn't want anyone reporting to the institute. No one probably knew about the institute, but better safe than sorry.

"Where do you think the others went?" Naomi cut in as she regained tripping over a pebble, as they were walking deeper into the opposite alley by now Madoc turned roughly still in thought before shrugging dully, he thought that'd be enough until he realized she couldn't see him, he sighed raggedly at his own mistake "They couldn't of gotten far..." Madoc concluded, "Perhaps they're around here. I doubt it though, we kinda lagged behind. Last ones out... I think anyway," he added "We were fairly lucky, we didn't encounter any guards or anything. Apart from those people frozen to the wall..." he shook his head free of the thoughts, before he resumed walking, tugging Naomi's arm gently.

As they emerged out of this alley, it was different almost completely deserted, there was no one and it was oddly disturbing. However as Madoc scanned the streets, he spotted a clothes shop and there were no audiences, the front window display clothes looked roughly Naomi's size. Madoc's face contorted with relief, "Hey, Naomi! I think I've found a solution for your clothing problem." he exasperated each word, "There's a clothing shop ahead, I think I could edit the window from reality and snatch the clothes without nobody seeing." he walked towards it, muttering how he was going to go about this.

Naomi nodded in response to Madoc's suggestion. Clothes would be nice, really nice. "Yeah, I'm really cold." She followed him through the, well, she assumed it was some kind of street. This wasn't the fresh air she'd dreamed about or remembered from her childhood. This was thick and almost choking. Or maybe her memories had got distorted in the years she'd been in the institute. No, she was sure one day she'd make it back to the ocean and feel the fresh, salty air on her skin. "How many people are around?" She asked, trying to listen for voices or footsteps while they moved forward, Madoc guiding her around hazards on the floor.

They stopped moving and she assumed they had reached the window of the shop. Would they have to make a run for it? She wondered, hating the idea of running blind. She probably wouldn't make it three feet before falling flat on her face. She took a breath, "tell me what to do."

Madoc looked inside the window, before muttering to Naomi "Just wait here... I'll only be a second I think anyway." he let go of her arm and walked to the window. His eyes scanned it as he got the picture inside his mind, "You can do this, you can do this..." he repeated trying to boost the chance that his power would work. Madoc paused before raising both of his hands, and focusing deep inside on erasing the window. After a few seconds there was a burst and it seemed reality just wavered slightly, he concentrated harder glad to see he was getting results. This time the window specifically wavered, before quickly blinking out of existence, Madoc stumbled back before taking a deep breath. He looked up regaining his posture, and breathing deeply,

This particular feat was slightly tiring but Madoc recovered rapidly, he walked towards the window before quipping, "I'm glad there's no people around." as he pushed inside the windows frame he pulled the clothing off the display quickly, making it come down onto the floor creating a large clattering noise, Madoc winced slightly before jumping out of the frame quickly. His eyes searched before seeing the etched white powdered figure, "Naomi I got the clothes!" he walked towards her before grabbing her arm, "Let's get out of here." his eyes searched for where they should go to preform this.

Madoc's hand slipped away from hers as he moved over to the window and she suddenly felt vulnerable in the middle of a strange street without even being able to see if danger was coming. I am invisible, she told herself, remembering that anyone walking past wouldn't even notice her. There was a loud clatter and her muscles tensed up, suddenly afraid anyone in the area would be drawn to the sound. It's not like it was a noisy place. She hadn't heard quiet like this for a long time. At the institute there were the constant groans and screams echoing round the rooms. "Naomi, I got the clothes!" Madoc grabbed her arm. "Let's get out of here."

"Okay," she said and waited for him to chose a direction. He was hesitant, but she understood why: the last thing they wanted to do was march straight into the arms of hunters for the institute. If anyone saw Madoc talking they'd probably assume he was mad and then what would happen? They began moving and Naomi was beginning to be able to predict when there would be a slope in the path or something waiting to trip her up. Maybe if she'd been given the chance to move around while invisible at the institute, she might've learned how to navigate while blind. They walked a little quicker until the breeze stopped. Naomi reached out a hand and found there was a wall on either side of her; they were in another alleyway.

"Where are the clothes?" She asked and took the shirt and trousers from Madoc. She sighed, knowing how ridiculous this was, almost embarrassing. "Which way round are they?"

Madoc shifted downwards as they entered the next alleyway to preform this, he awkwardly looked towards Naomi before thinking on how to preform this, he stopped and chuckled dryly, as Naomi asked for the clothes before promptly taking them from his hands, he nodded before adding nervously, "You think you can do it on your own?" As she took them she sighed before asking, "Which way round are they?" Madoc noted she was holding them the wrong way around. He pushed his hand forward rotating the clothes in Naomi's grasp, he then looked up and spoke lightly, "There... they're the right way around now."

He twitched lightly before deciding to look away. She may be invisible, but it was manners that counted even if she couldn't see him it was more of a courtesy than anything else, and Madoc was nothing but a gentleman. He fiddled with his hands before saying out loud, "I've been thinking." he paused before continuing, "To continue evading the institute we should find somewhere to lay low, or something. Wait until they forget about us y'know?" his eyes wandered checking the outside of the alley for anyone of note.

Naomi tugged the shirt over her head, getting it stuck on her bedraggled bun. It had been a long time since her hair had been plaited and pinned to her head and a lot of it had fallen back down in the rush to get out of the institute. Maybe when she got her sight back, she would be able to plait it herself, but she wasn't sure; it'd been years since she'd tried. Sometimes she forgot she was invisible. It was too easy to; it only felt minutely different to being visible, beside the blindness, but most of the time it just felt like she was blind, not invisible.

"I've been thinking," Madoc said as Naomi navigated her first leg into the trousers. "To continue evading the institute we should find somewhere to lay low, or something. Wait until they forget about us, y'know?" She leant back against the wall to keep her balance as the first trouser leg slipped over her boney hips.

She nodded, pulling the second over her right leg. "Yeah, I agree." The last thing she wanted was to be caught and dragged back to the institute. The first time she didn't put up much of a fight but she didn't know where she was going then. If it happened again, she wouldn't go quite so easily. She fumbled with the button at the top of the trousers. "Yeah..." she murmured, knowing that they both must've been thinking the same thing. "Where will we go?" Her stomach growled, reminding her that there was that problem too. She couldn't remember the last time she'd actually eaten a decent meal. Or washed for that matter.

Madoc nodded confirming Naomi's answer to himself, before hesitantly turning around. Madoc's eyebrows cocked, before he ran a cool eye over Naomi she had done a good job getting dressed considering she was blind, she had just got her first leg through the pair of trousers. Madoc coughed slightly due to being slightly dehydrated, after a few seconds he held his throat and shook him self free of the coughing fit. His head automatically looked down at the ground, as he scuffed his old shoes amongst the ground, he calmly looked down examining himself, and laughed edgily by how much he stuck out, his white t-shirt was old and battered and addled with dry blood stains, with the occasional rip his old pair of jeans weren't in a better state, they were just shredded, and his shoes were worn and old. He probably looked like a homeless person, but ironically that's exactly what he was.

"Yeah" Naomi muttered, Madoc looked up his concentration ruptured by Naomi, she vaguely asked "Where will we go?" this was followed by her stomach rumbling, which reminded Madoc that hunger was a factor, and they'd probably need something to eat soon. Madoc's lips tightened as he replied tightly, "We'll find a abandoned building or something..." he went off in thought, "Crash there the night, then we'd be able to get some food tomorrow. Then after a month of laying low, we'd be able to live regularly." he smiled reasurringly, even though deep down he knew that there'd never be free of the institute, until they or the institute were dead, but it was better to live in hope rather than the depressing darkness which was reality.

"Yeah," Naomi breathed and sighed softly. She knew that this would be better than the institute - how could it not be? - but her dreams of the ocean were a long way off. If she'd ever reach them at all. Her leg started to shake, not from the cold this time. She reached out and found Madoc's wrist. She followed it down to his hand, trying to find comfort in the simple contact. Every hour tied to that stinking bed she'd craved for someone to talk to her or brush her skin with their hand. At least that was one thing this situation had over the institute. She tried to find more: no more needles, no more screaming. She hoped the list would grow.

"Then after a month of laying low, we'd be able to live regularly," Madoc continued. Live regularly, Naomi thought. She couldn't imagine ever being able to live normally after what had happened. They could pretend they were free, but really this was just another trick from the institute. How could they ever feel free knowing that the institute would be after them? She bit into her bottom lip. "Okay," she said and took a deep breath of the heavy air. "Let's go then."

Madoc gripped Naomi's hand tightly, grateful for the contact before nodding and speaking softly "Yeah, Let's get out of here." his head turned facing the nearest exit of the alley, and he walked out absent minded, until he came to a halt as he ran a cool eye over Naomi, she was still invisible and all he could see now was clothes, the white powder had faded from her skin. Madoc paused before asking curiously, "Any chance you can make your clothes invisible..?" the sight of clothes walking through the air would obviously attract the wrong attention, and Madoc wanted to look as inconspicuous as possible.

While waiting for the response, Madoc peered out of the alleyway this street seemed a lot more busy in comparison to the other street they'd just been in, and if Naomi could make her clothes invisible it'd make this a lot more easier. Madoc thought about it, if she couldn't he would probably have to bend reality to get past unseen by the people: this prospect didn't excite him as using his ability made him feel worn, old and sick. He'd noticed however that he'd been getting more comfortable with it and he noticed his ability was growing, at a slow pace but did sometimes have rapid developments, this gave him a odd sense of safety.

Naomi hesitated, not even realising her clothes were visible, before sighing. "I don't know." She still held onto Madoc's hand, letting him lead her forward. "I really have no idea what I can do." She felt useless. At least Madoc could get her clothes and probably get food if they got the opportunity. His gift was useful, but what use was a being invisible when you couldn't even see. "Maybe when the drugs wear off I'll be able to get a better hold of things." She swallowed and pressed her teeth into her lower lip gently. "To be honest," she muttered. "I don't know how to even make myself invisible." She paused, waiting for a reaction, but when Madoc stayed silent she continued. "For all I know it could be easy, but I never had a chance to work it all out before..." She trailed off and they kept walking. Naomi still relied on Madoc to guide her round the various hazards along the path, but she was beginning to sense them too.

"When..." She paused, wondering whether she should ask or not. He could always decide to not answer. "When did you get taken to the institute? I mean, how old were you?"
