Cody groaned as rolled out of bed. Today was his first day of school in his most recent new school. What was this, like 12, 13? It didn't really matter, Cody knew he wouldn't be here long. He threw on a pair of jeans and the first shirt he came across.

When he got downstairs Anne had breakfast ready on the table. "Today's the big day!" She said. Tyler nodded and sat down at the table. This wasn't his first new school. Cody piled his plate high with food to be polite, although he wasn't all that hungry, and started eating.

"So you're going to talk to the football coach today, right?" Dave said. He put his newspaper down on the table and looked directly at Cody. Dan and Anne were without a doubt the nicest foster family he had been with yet. Too bad they were only temporary.

"Yeah, hopefully he'll let me play." Cody said, taking a bite of his food. Dave had already talked to the coach for him, there was no doubt about whether or not he would be playing, but for some reason everyone was pretending otherwise.

Cody brought his empty plate over to the sink and rinsed it off before putting it in the dish washer. If he hadn't been hungry before he ate all that food, he felt like he was about to barf now. Dave handed him the keys to a black truck, "have a good first day Cody." Cody just stared at the keys for a second before thanking him and walking out the door. He honestly hadn't expected a foster family to just hand over a car. Not that it was his, but they were letting him take it no questions asked.

It wasn't too hard to find the school since Anne had shown him how to get there yesterday. He wasn't at all prepared for what he saw when he got there though. The entire school was covered in stickers that said "murder". Whoever decided this would be a nice way to decorate a school should be shot he thought.

Zaria arrived at school and realized she was a bit earlier than usual. She parked in her usual spot and started walking towards the building. "Whoa..." she mumbled, looking at the stickers everywhere. Which one of them was the murderer? She couldn't think of anybody terrible enough to kill another person. Sure, they all had moments where they hated somebody else, but killing was a bit extreme to say the least.

She noticed a new guy who was pretty attractive here as well. She decided it would be funny to act as if he'd done all this. She walked over to him and tapped him on the shoulder, noting that he was almost a foot taller than her. "Excuse me, but I don't think this is how you're supposed to show school appreciation. Usually we just have those stupid pep rallies and scream at the top of our lungs. But hey, more power to ya if you like thinking outside of the circle." The small girl smiled, deciding it would be best to let him know she was joking. This was mainly do to the fact that he looked like he could beat her into a bloody pulp.

"I'm joking," she told him. "I just have a habit of saying whatever I feel like. My name's Zaria and you are obviously a stranger here. Welcome to the game."

Cody was still taking in the strange decor when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He looked down to see a short pink haired girl staring back up at him. She was saying something about school spirit and how he was doing it wrong. It took a minute to put together that she was insinuating he had been the one to cover the school in murder stickers. Then there was something about a game.

"What game?" he asked. He was supposed to be finding the principals office to get a schedule and all that first day crap, but that could wait.

"The game of life of course. Haha, not really. No, there's somebody around here blackmailing some of us, which is why these posters are everywhere I suppose. Somebody didn't listen last night." Zaria frowned. It wasn't a very fun game, nothing like hide and seek or Wii Sports. She looked back at Cody, wondering if he would be selected. Well, he was new so A probably had something up her sleeve.

"Trust me, it isn't fun." She sighed and looked around at the words everywhere. Murderer, murderer, murderer. Who was it? As horrible as it was, she was curious to find out who it was. "Need any help getting around? Because there's probably no way you'll make it around with everything looking the same."

"So this is a punishment?" Cody asked, clearly confused. Out of all the places he could have ended up, he wound up in the school where some freak was blackmailing people for a game? He was new though, what could they possibly have on him? It wasn't like anyone could just go on google and find him, he had been given a new name when his father got sent to jail for his own protection, and his picture had been kept out of the media.

"Oh, yeah that would be great. How do I find the principals office?" He had a general idea of where it was, but he wanted to hear more about this crazy game.

"Punishment, blackmail, detention- all the same thing," Zaria commented before looking around. The office wasn't far away, just down the hall and around the corner actually. She was worried that she would get them lost though. Knowing her, finding things was never easy and being anywhere near glass meant she'd better have some extra cash with her. "Alright. I'll try to find it."

She started leading the way down the hall, then turned the corner about fifteen feet later. Another few steps and they were at the door, though it too had been covered. She poked the door a few times before finding the door handle. Zaria opened it and entered, holding it open for Cody too.

"Thanks." He said, stepping into the principals office. A nice woman sat behind a cluttered desk, most likely the principals assistant or secretary or something. "Hi, my names Cody Lafontaine, I'm supposed to meet with the principal to pick up my schedule or something?"

The woman looked up at him from her computer, clearly uninterested in what he had to say. "The principals a little busy right now. I'll just print your schedule out for you now and you can meet with him later." She said coolly, printing out a copy of his schedule and handing it to him. He thanked her, but she gave no indication that she had even heard him so he turned around and headed for the door.

((woops didn't mean to tag Cole))

Cody heard his phone buzz and pulled it out of his pocket to find one new text from an unknown number. "Hello there, I guess I should welcome you to Makenzie Prep! ;) Must be hard on you, what with your dead mother, and your father in prison... why was that again? Oh, yeah... he was the murderer ;) Good luck xxx - A" Cody just stared at his phone for a second as the message sunk in. Were the murder stickers supposed to be some sort of twisted welcome message? No, that wasn't possible. They had to be for somebody else.

He hit reply and typed "is this your idea of a joke?" There was so much more he wanted to say, but he didn't want to give anything else away to this creep.

From: Cody
is this your idea of a joke?

To: Cody
Well, it is amusing... but that isn't the only reason why ^-^ - A

From: Zaria
Who's the murderer

A grinned. So she was at the school, and had obviously seen the 'posters.'

To: Zaria
Honey, I can't give that away just yet. But I will tell you, there's more than one ;) - A

Cody rolled his eyes as he read the new message. "Well what other reason is there?" he sent back, shoving the phone into his pocket.

It took some searching to find his locker, but with the help of a few random strangers he found it eventually. Of course, it had to be covered in those murder stickers like everything else in this school. He pulled his swiss army knife out of his pocket and went to work on cutting his locker free. Normally he wouldn't carry a knife, but it came in pretty handy picking locks, so he kept it on him.

As Cody was walking down the hallway, he over heard a group of people talking about the murder stickers. It seemed like as good a time as any to introduce himself.

"I couldn't help over hearing you guys talking about the stickers, is this sort of thing normal around here?" He said, stepping into the circle between the two brunettes. He hoped they wouldn't just brush him off. Then again, he would probably be gone soon enough, so it didn't really matter.

"I'm Cody by the way, I'm new here." He added, flashing a smile at the group.

Madison smiled at the muscular boy who walked up. "I'm Madison." She said, then, motioning to the others, added, "this is Chris, and this is Macy." She wasn't positive the other girls name was Macy, but it was too late to take it back.

"Oh, and to answer your question, I definitely wouldn't call this normal." Madison said. Nothing about this year had been normal. When had there ever been someone blackmailing people to burn their friend's houses to the ground or cover the entire school in murder stickers? Never.

Chris nodded his head, standing there and listening. He didn't know most of these kids, and he never had been the chatty type. When Macy called him the boy who got slapped, hr grinned, and put his arm around Madison, continuing to listen. When the new boy, Cody, came over, he was interested. He didn't recognize him, so obviously he was new. "Yeah. Not normal at all." He agreed with Madison, looking around again. Then, he turned his head to Madison, putting his mouth near her ear and whispering, "A must have a lot of time on their hands." The he pulled his head back straight, feeling his cut with his tongue, and realizing the talking had made it start bleeding again. Great.

Cody wasn't very surprised when Chris threw an arm around Madison. She was gorgeous. "That's a little disappointing," he said as Chris whispered something into Madison's ear, "I thought I might have finally found a fun school for once." He figured they were probably whispering about him. It kind of came along with the 'new kid' territory. "You play football?" Cody said, nodding his head towards Chris. It wouldn't be a bad thing to find someone else on the team.

Chris grinned, nodding his head. "Yeah. You gunna try out for the team?" Chris asked. It didn't matter if the kid was bad, their team certainly wasn't too good, and could use all the help they could get, but by looking at him, he could tell the kid was muscular. Infact, Chris sucked at football in general, but it didn't matter that he wasn't the best catcher, he could kick it with accuracy every time, and that's all he did. Besides, he didn't find football all the interesting, rather he liked surfing, swimming, soccer, and lacrosse better. Oh, and diving competitions.

"Yeah, I heard your quarterback graduated last year?" Cody said. It was impeccable timing actually, coming to a new school that just happened to be looking for a QB. Back in elementary school, Cody had chosen to go for quarterback because it was the one everybody knew. All the other guys were important, but there was no question about who the quarterback was. As his Dad always said, "aim small, miss small". Great advice. Of course, he had meant it in terms of shooting things, but applied to plenty of other stuff as well.

"Yeah, he did. So, you're on the team." Chris said, grinning. Although they hadn't started games or practices yet, they were starting next week, and they needed a QB. And someone who actually knew how to play, and considering that Cody seemed so sure about knowing how to do it, and about wanting the spot, so he probably knew how to play. "We don't have anyone who can catch well enough to be Quarterback. Or who can throw. Or who knows the rules." Chris said. He, personally knew the rules, but that didn't mean he cared.

"You guys aren't that bad." Madison said with a laugh. Sure the team wasn't fantastic, but they weren't awful. Maybe have a good quarterback would help. It sure couldn't hurt. "The cheerleaders are pretty great though." she said. That was true. The competition team made it pretty far every year.

((wait why does this school not have a preseason or double sessions or anything? haha usually fall sports start before school starts))
