Gennstown, northern PA. Gennstown is small and quiet. Nothing much happens in the slow, lazy town. However, when the body of sixteen year old prom queen Elizabeth Rudwell is found dead, brutally mauled and lying in a vast cornfield not far from the school. The cause of death is determined to be internal bleeding, caused by a wild animal, most likely a wolf. But animal experts brought to the scene of the crime notice the size of the paw prints surrounding the body and leading off into the forest.

PLOT

If you enjoy a good mystery filled with twists and turns while still staying as realistic as a werewolf roleplay possibly can, this is the perfect place for you to be.
The basic plot is as follows:

You can either play a human detective or civilian, or you can play a werewolf living in Gennstown. The goals of both types of characters are similar, but slightly varied. The civilian/detective's objective is to find who or whatever is committing these crimes and put an end to it. The werewolves' goal is to find whoever is killing and put an end to it, all while not being discovered by the humans his/herself.

TERMINOLOGY
Vargulf: "A vargulf is an insane Werewolf. Unlike normal werewolves, a vargulf will kill its prey without eating it. A vargulf will eventually die from the disease or insanity possessing it. A vargulf possesses all the abilities of a common werewolf, but it is, however, slightly stronger." Courtesy of the Hemlock Grove wiki. It is common knowledge among the werewolves that a vargulf is the one responsible for the killings, but no one is sure who it is. A vargulf will continue to kill unless it is killed itself.
The Right Moon: The right moon is the full moon (in regards to moon phases). All werewolves are forced to change on the full moon. Changes are painful and can take up to a minute to be completed in full, which takes a tremendous toll on the body. The Right Moon is the only acceptable moon to change on, aside from the New Moon. Any werewolf who changes on the wrong moon is putting his/her self at risk.
The Wrong Moon: The wrong moon is any moon that isn't the full moon or the new moon. If a werewolf changes on any wrong moons, he/she puts herself at risk of becoming a vargulf. It is not impossible to change, but it is dangerous to the human and wolf body, and who knows what else could go wrong!

CHARACTER OCCUPATIONS

LEON MASTERS

Leon pushed his hands into his pockets. He was walking down the quiet Gennstown street. The chill of the early autumn breeze send goosepumps up and down his lean, muscled arms. The old red brick sidewalk was crumbling and cracking, having had no matinence of any recent form to up keep the paths through the small town. A few cars whizzed by every once in a while, but everything was relatively quiet. It was just past noontime, about 1 o'clock. The sun was blotted out by thick, light grey clouds that stretched, unwavering, across the whole sky, turning it a pale silver color, ominous by any means, perhaps to promise rain at some point.

Leo's feet were subconsiously following the street sidewalk, passing block after block in a mindless, yet somehow deliberate way. He knew where he was heading, but did not necessarily think of it as he walked. Soon, as he approached one of the further sides of town, he caught a glimpse of bright yellow police tape just ahead. He knew all too well its purpose.

That was why the town was so silent as of late. Just beyond the yellow tape and steady stream of police cars was a terrible crime that shook the little, otherwise quiet, town to its roots. The brutal murder of Elizabeth Rudwell. It was a mere week after the body had been found, and since word spread through the town, everyone seemed to be in a much more sombre, downcast mood with shifting eyes and jackets pulled tight. Speaking of which, Leo pulled his jacket a bit tigher around his own body, the wind breaker being the only actual barrier between his sensitivity to the cold and the bone-chilling breeze that sent rotting autumn leaves in little tornados through the nearly-vacant streets.

Leo marched out through the cornfield where the blocked off section of yellow police tape remained. Finally he stopped there and started in at the contents of the little ring of restricted tape. On the ground was a huge, disturbing spot of dried blood, at least a yard in width and two yards in height, staining the near-frozen ground. He shuddered slightly. Various other blood pools and spots where located in a close vicinity of the biggest one. As he stared in at the near-abandoned crime-scene, he noticed the imprints of what looked to be a canine paw print. Multiple ones surrounding the blood spots, and then leading off and disappearing into the nearby tree line. He frowned. He'd read about the pawprints in the newspaper. It had mentioned something about the wildlife specialists saying that they were dealing with a very large animal, far larger than anything known to live in Pennsylvania, perhaps a large wolf.

BIANCA MATTENELLI

Bianca clamoured down the street, her big, black leather tote hooked around her elbow as her long legs scissored, her long strides reduced to smaller, quicker steps in a sort of a jog. She was late for work. She's left As the Page Turns, the small, local bookstore, to get lunch and ended up going back to her apartment and sticking her head back into her books and notes. Bianca had a profound interest in the recent killing of local promqueen and beauty icon Elizabeth Rudwell. She loved mysteries, and although this one was brutual and sad and personal, it just gave her a bigger drive to get to the bottom of it.

Being the persuasive, persistent, and highly intelligent girl that she was, Bianca never let the officers at the sheriff's department alone, always insisting on copies of their autopsy reports and crime scene analysis files, etc. etc. etc. She had been preforming her own side-line investigation into the homicide of the local high-schooler and friend. She hung around the crime scene on a regular basis, taking pictures of her own and hounding officers for facts and discoveries until she was shoo-ed away by the leading detectives, who had become very accustomed to her appearances and inerest in the case.

Bianca threw open the door of the little book store, the bell overhead jingling to announce her arrival, although in case that was not enough, "I'm back," she announced, making her way behind the front counter to set her stuff behind it. She slipped her black, quilted faux-leather jacket off of her slender shoulders and onto the spinny chair she usually sat upon when she worked front desk. It was a small opperation, with Bianca, Arturo DeGari (the co-owner) and the formal owner who rarely really made appearances. So it was mostly a two-man staff, not that Bianca minded. She liked to peace and quiet and enjoyed the company of the books and her mysterious boss, Mr. Arturo DeGari.

She peeked into one of the aisles, then into another. "Arturo?" She called softly, so not to disturb a person browsing and reading the merchandise.

John browsed through the books in As The Page Turns. Nothing he saw really interested him. It was all books about rabbits and steel for some reason. He was curious as to why this store seemed to lack books that that came out after the mid-eighties. He wondered if they just hadn't been able to restock since then.

John was here to simply blow off some steam. He had spent the last couple of days focusing the majority of his attention on gathering information about the recent death of Elizabeth Ruddwell. Unfortunately, he hadn't been able to break any new ground and it was beginning to get on his nerves. He had only been given minimum access to the crime scene and Elizabeth's parent's refused an interview. Even the reporter for the town's half-rate newspaper The Gennstown Owl was getting more information than John was. John knew he had to get more dirt on this case or else he may be out of a job. John was no stranger to playing by your own rules to get the information you need. John slowly pushed thoughts of news and truth to the back of his mind. Right now, he needed to relax.

John continued browsing through books when a girl slightly younger than himself walked into the store. John ignored her for the most part. She seemed to be working in the store. She began peeking down the aisles looking for someone named Arturo. John continued to browse for a while before something caught his eye. The book was about myths and legends of the area. It was buried behind three books about the importance of the proper diet for a rabbit, but it was there. John happily grabbed it and brought it to the counter. Neither the young girl nor her boss were at the register. There a bell on the counter. John ringed it and patiently waited for service.

Arturo picked up the last of the boxes filled with books that had been delivered to the store, putting the boxes on the floor he rested on the boxes as he looked over the new stock list. It was always good to have new books, but the older books had much more character even if they had no interest in this modern world.

He shook hand with the driver placing a ten dollar bill in his pocket, " Thank you very much, see you soon" he flashed a smile and checked his watch. Bianca should have been back from her lunch now, that girl was always trying to investigate something or learn new facts from books. Arturo couldn't help but smile, she was a lovely girl and a hard worker even if business was slow some days she was great to talk too.

His sensitive hearing picked up the high pitched ring of the store's bell, so either a new customer had entered or Bianca had returned. Looking around he picked up the large boxes with ease setting them down at the back of the store, where new books were stored and antique books were kept since they had value.

Brushing down his shirt he entered the store, sniffing he picked up Bianca's scent as well a customer who had been looking around for about ten minutes while Arturo was sorting out the delivery.

"Bianca, dove sei stato? Ti ho dato un'ora per il pranzo. non sei stato dal sito di nuovo vero? Consegna sul retro, vuoi organizzare i nuovi libri per me mentre io vedo a questo signore?"
(Bianca, where have you been? I gave you an hour for lunch. you haven't been by the site again have you? Delivery out back, would you organise the new books for me while I see to this gentleman?)

He smiled at the man " Good Afternoon Sir, How are you?. Anything else I can help you with today?" He looked down at the book that he had selected, his face ever so slightly confused where did he find that boo? it must have been in the wrong section. Picking up the book he checked the price and added " That will be $3 please." He smiled again.

BIANCA MATTENELLI

Bianca's head poked out as she heard the back door shut. In came Arturo, and she smiled in greeting. He spoke to her in Italian, their native language. Although she generally spoke English, sometimes it was a breath of fresh air to here her own mother language, something far more private than the universially spoken English language which everyone understood. Italian was special to her, private language, private thoughts.

She groaned, quietly, when she was told to go organize the newest shipment. "Va bene, va bene..." (Okay, okay...) She started to head towards the back, but she turned her head as she watched a man who appeared to be older than her, burt perhaps it was just the slightly wrinkles and edgy looks that made her seem older than he probably was. She studied the book in his hand, something about legends of the area. Her head tilted slightly, with interest. She was totally into all that stuff, supernatural, urban legends, myths, etc. She shook off her distraction and headed back to the newest shipment.

Bianca crouched and removed the packaging tape from the boxes, taking off the lids and remocing the contents. All genres, all types. Lots of books. "Libri e libri e libri ovunque!.." (Books and books and books everywhere!..) She murmured softly, checking the tiltes and putting them together by genre, publication date, and author. "Hmm... Looky here." She plucked a title out of the bottom of one of the stacks. Supernatural Species, by J. L. Hidgens. "Arturo," she poked her head out once more, he was with a customer. The same one who'd taken the book of local legends. "I think we may have been shipped a collezione di libri sbagliato." (A wrong book set.)

John smiled with surprise and delight. A book this size in Alansburg would cost at least 40 dollars. I guess it must've been preowed. He thought to himself. John reached into the back of his pocket and pulled out his wallet. As he began to supply the man with the money, John started talking to the him. "Sir, may I ask you about something slightly controversial?"

"Ya see my name is John. I'm a journalist from Alansburg and I'm currently investigating the recent death of Elizabeth Rudwell. I was just wondering if you knew her or know anything about her recent passing." John said upon the man's response. The man talked to John for a short amount of time about the recent tragedy. John thanked the man, then grabbed his business card and handed it to the man. "And, hey, if you know anyone who would be willing to help me out anymore than you have give me a buzz."

Eleanor had quickly realized that being a werewolf really, really sucked.

She thought her heightened senses would be a perk. But all they did was stress her out. The smell of food was so strong it made her feel nauseous; cars that were a hundred yards away sounded like they were barreling down on her. She must have jumped out of the way of non-existent danger three times on the way to the cornfield.

When she noticed the yellow tape blocking the scene, a ball of dread formed in the pit of her stomach. Why was she even coming here again?

The idea was that it would make her feel better. She’d see it, find some proof that there was no way she had been able to do it, and feel much better about the whole thing.

Or trigger some sort of flashback to her murdering that girl. Either way she’d get closure.

“Here we are.” She whispered. Her hair had fallen out of the messy pony tail she had put it in, and wisps of copper colored hair fell into her face. Eleanor only squinted.

Of course she was aware of the other man looking at everything; she tried to keep her distance from him, going to the other end of the tape. Hopefully he’d get the hint that she didn’t want to talk. That was why she’d snuck out instead of going to see it with her sister, who had gotten up bright and early to start the research for her book based off the whole thing. How a werewolf murder could make her excited rather than horrified, Eleanor couldn’t fathom. Michelle was just strange.

When she saw the pool of blood, all she could do was take a sharp intake of breath. She could still smell it like it was fresh. It made Eleanor want to throw up. In fact, a lot of stuff since she became a werewolf made her want to throw up; she hoped the sensory overload would get better in time.

She took a good look at the footprint. As she expected, huge. Yep, it was a werewolf alright.

If she thought this would somehow make her feel better, it didn’t. There was still a girl murdered by a werewolf right after she, a werewolf, moved to town. And staring at the massacre that took place in this cornfield didn’t give her any of the physical clues she was hoping for. But yet…

Something about this seemed off. Eleanor didn’t know what; her mind tried to conjure up a word to describe it. The closest she could get was rabid. Could a werewolf be rabid?

Oh, god. Do people even get rabies vaccines? And if not, how the hell was she going to explain that request to her doctor?

She didn’t realize that small droplets were forming at the corners of her eyes; she finally wiped them away with her hand, drying it on the thighs of her holey blue jeans. True, she didn’t know Elizabeth Rudwell, never even met her, but she’d seen her face and her life story splashed across so many newspapers that her death was starting to affect Eleanor in a personal way. Whether it was her, or somebody else who did it, she was going to find a way to make this right.

Eleanor took one more look at the scene, sighed, and turned around to go back. There was nothing else she could gain from being here.

Arturo listened to the man as he explained what he was doing around the town, yet another investigator to the town why don't they just leave the poor girl alone. Arturo wouldn't get involved with the werewolf responsible if he found out, unless he or she was going to harm the people he cared about. Although anybody could be next and if it was a Vargulf then no one was really safe, Vargulfs could not be controlled or reasoned with.

When he was asked about the young girls passing. Arturo shrugged lightly " I'm afraid I only hear what people tell me, most people are saying that it is a wolf, there are a few in the area because of the woods surrounding the town. But wolves are pack animals, most won't attack humans unless they step on the packs territory or if they are provoked. So a lone wolf attack in certainly strange. I did hear a rumour of a really wealthy scientist who injected a wolf with a powerful steriod and the wolf got out killing the scientist and escaping out into the woods and ended up mating with other wolves and made a powerful mix. But of course it's just a rumour, but we all have to start somewhere. Good luck with investigating sir and have a good day" Arturo smiled " perhaps you will find an answer in your book, you never know" he handed the book back to the man.

Looking over to Bianca as she called him over to the book she had begun to unpack, walking over to her he looked at the book set.

"sì, è l'ordine giusto, perché non dare un'occhiata a quelli?, ottenere la vostra mente di cercare di assassini e mascalzoni, sì?"
(Yeah, it's the right order, why don't you take a look at those? Get your mind of looking for the assasins and the murders, yeah?)

He chuckled softly and looked through the books, picking up the list he looked at the rest of the boxes taking off the tape he found another set of fantasy books. People were certainly strange when it came to books choices, there was a few factual books too.

" People don't really read romances or adventures any more do they? It's all girly vampires and super buff werewolves." Arturo laughed softly and sat down flicking through one of the books.

Bianca followed him back, knealing down as well to unpack the books, sorting by genre. She smiled a brilliant white smile when he mentioned girly vampires and super buff werewolves. "Hey, I like me some super buff werewolves, I'm not gonna lie," she said, flipping through yet another edition of The Twilight Saga. She set the book down with the other copies in their individual pile. "But I do like mysteries more than anything, I'd say," she glanced at Arturo. "Just like the mystery here. Elizabeth's mystery." She brushed some long, dirty blonde hair away from her face, shifting into a seated position with her legs crossed Indian-style before her.

"I heard you talking to that reporter guy. Do you believe any of those rumors that people are saying?" She tilted her head, her eyes following a fly the buzzed past her face. "I didn't even know that wolves lived around here." She got busy sorting through the books once more until they were all in their proper piles and categories.

LEON MASTERS

Leo's sensitive hearing picked up the sound of Eleanor's footsteps long before she was even in sight. He didn't even have to turn his head, having already sensed her moving towards the police tape a few yards away from him. A little bit of distance, but not too far. He glanced over anyway, at the nagging of something peculiar at his nose. He did not recognize this auburn-haired girl, she was unfamiliar to him. Perhaps she was new in Gennstown, or a visiting reporter -- as many were now-a-days since Elizabeth's murder.

But that was not what caught Leo's attention. It was the way that Eleanor smelled, even from a distance. She smelled like pine trees and fresh snow, the exact way that he himself smelled. It was the distinct smell of a werewolf in their human body. He was alarmed for a second, his normally sleepy brown eyes widening slightly with surprise. He'd only ever known of one other werewolf in Gennstown. He wondered momentarily if those big, ominous wolf prints in the dirt could possibly belong to the paws of that girl's wolf. There wasn't a way to tell. Not now.

Leon backed up a few steps away from the tape, his eyes shifting away from Eleanor and back to the street as he made his way across the lonely, downcast cornfield and back to the tattered brick sidewalk. The sky was covered in a constant, endless expanse of grey clouds that threatened rain but had yet to deliver it.

Arturo smiled at Bianca as she commented on liking super buff werewolves, Arturo couldn't help but chuckle. His head tilted to the side as she asked if he believe the rumours around the murder of the young girl. Bianca then commented about not knowing about the wolves in the area either.

Arturo stood up and walked to the back of the store putting on a pair of gloves and pulling out an old and aging book. Returning back to Bianca he opened up the book to a page covered in forest and a few wooden huts. " Now.." He began gesturing to the surrounding area " this book has a record of the land development from 1830 to 1980, this is in 1870 as you can see the forest was here long before we were. So this is the wolves territory" he flicked through the page and showed another picture with a little more of a town " this was when the steel refinery company came, as you can see there are more buildings and the start of a surrounding that would prevent the wolves from returning. And if we look at the town now, no wildlife except for in the forest. The wolves know to stay away. They probably wouldn't want to cause harm to the pack unless it is self defence." He closed the book and but it back in the special case from where he got it.

" I belive that things happen for a reason, I don't know if that girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time. We can only hope it doesn't happen again. Perhaps this was just the balance of predator and prey." He added as he took of the gloves. " as for the stories, I would rather hear the truth than a stretched out lie. "

Eleanor paused for a few moments before continuing her walk, not wanting to look like she was following the guy.

She reached a crosswalk, feeling her cellphone vibrate in the pocket of her denim jacket. She reached in, saw that it was her sister, and flipped it open. "Michelle?"

"Eleanor! Where the hell have you been? I have been waiting in The Bistro for an hour."

Eleanor flinched. She had completely forgotten. "Sorry sis. I...I got lost." She lied.

"Seriously? Lost?" The werewolf could almost see her sister rolling her eyes on the other end of the line. "You can see it from your apartment."

"Well, I went for a walk. Should I have called to ask if it was okay?"

"Sis, if you want me to keep lying to mom and dad and tell them you're living with me, I need to be able to check up on you. I can't have you running off to god knows where--"

"Yes, because it's easy to gets drugs in this town, right?" Her voice, dripping with sarcastic bitterness, caught the brunette on the other end of the phone off guard. When she spoke again her tone was considerably more gentle.

"I don't mean that Elle. But, you know, it's not like we don't have killer wolves running around--speaking of which," Michelle added, "I visited the Rudwells this morning after I saw the crime scene. Wanted to get an interview before they got tired of all the reporters."

"Seriously?" Eleanor's mouth hung open in shock. "Isn't that kind of extremely inconsiderate?"

"Probably. They slammed the door on me. But I can still use it for the book."

"Michelle, you are such a horrible--AUGH!" She heard it; the sound of a car going toward her. She screeched, practically jumping five feet in the air, dropping the phone. When she regained her composure, and realized the car was still very far away, she cursed. Damn werewolf instincts; this was the fifth time that happened. A car could be a hundred yards away and still sound like it was right next to her ear.

John smiled as the man explained his knowledge of the situation. John smiled then thanked the man. He grabbed his book and walked outside. He walked down the quiet streets towards his cousin's house. What a piece of work! I haven't heard a story so full of bologna since I talked to that butcher in town. I can buy a lot, but I tend to draw the line between fact and fiction when people start bringing mad doctors experimenting on animals in on it.

John smiled to himself. Well, I guess it's no harm done. Though I do have to get a game plan together soon. He passed a small cafe. Several patrons sat inside and chatted. I need to drop by Anna's to grab Brian. He has some sound equipment that we can use to record our discoveries more efficiently than writing them down. After a couple of blocks, John found himself in front of a small Victorian house. The house had recently been painted dark red. The color was complimented nicely by the burgundy trim. John walked to the front door and rang the bell.

Frank walked into the dusty old bookshop. The building was drab and gross. He knocked on the desk. These yokels are can hardly even keep their place of business clean. Frank wore a sinister face. He wipe the imaginary filth from his grey suit's shoulder. "These people better be grateful for what I'm about to do for them." He whispered to himself. After a few minutes of waiting, Frank began pounding on the desk. "Come on! Can't I get some service here?" He yelled to the back.

Victoria had no idea what was going on, she was a werewolf, unable to tell her parents the truth, she left home with a bag full of clothes, and some cash she had stolen, she hit the road with her skateboard and her street smarts, not even leaving a note. As she wandered down the streets, her headphones in, blasting some country music as she rode, she wondered if her parents would even notice her missing. As she neared a cross walk, she could hear someone screaming, taking out her ear phones and getting off her board, she smiled at the girl and wondered why she seemed so uptight. "Are you okay?" she asked, smelling a familiar scent, "You're not a werewolf, are you?" she asked, in a more quiet tone, her eyes searching the girls face for something.

At that very moment Eleanor's blood turned to ice. Her phone was broken--smashed across the pavement when she dropped it--but she couldn't care less at this point.

It wasn't like this was a surprise to her. After all, she wouldn't be a werewolf if there weren't more of them running around. But this wasn't how she expected to meet one. Not that she knew what she was expecting, of course. It wasn't like they had secret handshakes or 'Secret Order of the Werewolf' meetings, did they? And that was even assuming she was a werewolf. She seemed friendly enough, alright--until Eleanor answered 'yes' to her question and found out she was a werewolf hunter or Van Helsing in disguise or something.

"I...no, of course not. About being a werewolf I mean. I am fine. Totally fine. I just..." She looked in the distance, at the car that was still far away and stopped at a stop sign. "I was just afraid I was going to get hit by that car." She answered lamely.

Victoria waited for her response, her pocket knife in her pocket, just incase this girl was a threat. "Well that's a shame, I was looking for some answers on wolves" she said with a pout, and pulled down her hair, to cover the bite mark on her shoulder. "Maybe you should be more careful" she teased, picking up her skateboard, looking at the cars, wondering if she'd ever find another werewolf.

Just then her cell phone rang, she pulled it out of her pocket, and saw her mothers name, she then pressed the ignore button, and waited for the incoming text, which happened within seconds. Don't ever come back here was the text message. "Well I just lost my place to stay, oh well" she said with a shrug, "Name's Victoria, and you are?" she asked, extending her hand, giving a friendly smile.

"Er...Eleanor." She answered. The girl took her new acquaintance's hand cautiously, grabbing just her fingertips. "Are you going to be alright...?" She asked, kind of surprised that Victoria seemed so uncaring about suddenly being homeless.

There was a little itch in the back of her mind while she looked at her--her werewolf instincts, she guessed. The instincts were the most frustrating part. She'd always imagined them to be like a little voice in an animal's head; and it wasn't. It was more like a little nagging feeling in the back of her mind that gestured vaguely in one direction, rather than telling her where exactly to go. This girl was important, she was sure. She just had no idea why.

"Are you a reporter too?" She asked, although she guessed the answer was no. "Because if you're going to prove a werewolf killed that girl, walking around asking people if they're werewolves is probably not going to work."

Victoria smiled and shook what little part of the girls hand she had, "Well Eleanor, I don't think so, I'm homeless now" she said with a shrug. She put her phone back in her pocket, and wadded up her headphones, placing them in her back pocket. She took her bag off her back, and kneeled down, pulling something out, as secretively as possible, zipped up her bag, placed the item in the small of her back and hooked her board to the bag.

As Victoria stood up she heard Elanor ask her, ’are you a reporter’ she cocked her eye brow as she looked up, ”No, I’m not a reporter” she said in a confused tone. ”What girl?” she asked, very confused. ”I don’t read newspapers, or watch tv much” she added with a shrug.

Yay! We're about ready in regards to characters! I'm ready to start the roleplay if you all are, and I'll make the first post!

Re: When Bitten

Yes, of course! I look forward to your joining.

Re: When Bitten

Hey, this RP plot sounds really cool. Can I ask one question though?

Are these werewolves able to turn other people into werewolves through bites? Because I was thinking of applying for the RP, but the answer would affect the backstory of one of my characters.

When Bitten

This is the OOC thread for "When Bitten".
