Fresh air felt different, strange, welcoming. Autumn air swift around the building, entering the smells around the school, air conditioned breezed through the halls, it seemed to be so enchanting. Large walls, tall ceilings, and wide classrooms, brick buildings, and a smell of learning mixed with the smells of fall. It was something made only in fairy tales, that were told to hopeful listeners.
Àstrid breathed in, filling her lungs with outdoor air for the first time in eight years. Her short hair blew up as the wind picked up. It felt so natural to be out, she fell to the ground and felt the grass between her fingers, and on her legs. Had anyone saw they would think she was on a common human drug.
Her collar tugged on her soft neck, it was leather and felt perfect not having the leash to keep her back from anything, she was free. Standing now, she just ran around, jumping, rolling and enjoying herself. It was her first time to do all of these things, no one to keep an eye on her.
Àstrid found herself in school touching the walls, and even the people, when she saw a man smoking, it was the strangest she had seen and she had just noticed a boy on his knees only a few moments ago, with a horn stick out of his forehead.
"What is that!" Her voice was loud, and sweet, bubblegum sweet, she was a cavity just waiting to happen.

Ace stood straight, shocked by the student's presence. Quickly, he shoved the Biology teacher out of the class and held the cigarette behind his back.
"Oh, hi there, didn't see you come in," he laughed nervously. Crap, crap, crap. I've been busted by a student. Wait, there might still be some time. Maybe if I jump out the window? No, wait, there are rosebushes outside this classroom window. I'll be torn to shreds. Oh no, she's going to ask for one, what do I do?
He laughed nervously again, "Did you come for class? I have a free period now, so you just missed it." Ace looked her over, trying to see if she was with some law enforcement sting to catch him red-handed. That would just be his luck, getting slapped with a huge fine. Or worse, prison time...
He swallowed hard, "My name is Mr. Diamond. I teach Freshman History here at Brothane's. Are you a new Racun student here?" Ace silently began listing his finances in his head, trying to figure out how much bail money he would need.

Àstrid blushed noticing that she made him uncomfortable. She had thought it was a common question not fully understanding why he was being so odd about the thing.
"Was not that right question to ask?" Her voice was soft and still so bubblegum sweet.
A huge grin appeared on her face, as her hands slid through the man's hair. It was soft like how she pictured before doing so. And as she dropped her hands by her side she answered his question. "Yes, I am a racun. I'm sort of new to all this, but I think I have a class with you." Still he seemed to be on the guard.
"I wont tell." She found that was all she could say to lower his defensive.
Not fully understanding what was truly happening she began to walk away, her tail puffed up and wagged a little as she went on touching things.

Not really caring about where he was of to, mind just wondering as his feet took on a direction somewhere, found himself being knocked into. It took a moment to understand what happened.
"Oh you- Annette." His mind slipped back to where it should be, his hand reached out to help her up.
When she was standing next to him, his heart started to race. She was beautiful, and looked soft to the touch. Even though he was not human he began to have human feelings, like blood rushing away from his heart to pump another organ, this made Elia uncomfortable and wanting to do anything to keep his mind away from touching, he out spoke louder than normal, in panic..
"What the hell are you!" He didn't mean for it to come out so frazzled, but not wanting her eyes to travel farther and seeing something that could not be explained, he looked into her eyes widely.

Ace let out a huge sigh of relief, sticking the cigarette back in his mouth when she said that she wouldn't tell. He wasn't sure how seriously they took smoking in classrooms, after all.
Then, when she ran her fingers through his hair, his eyes widened slightly. Instinctively, he brushed his hand against hers, almost like a husband would do to his wife when she did that. His mind traveled back to a distant memory for a split second, and he backed up, bumping into the desk behind him.
"Je suis tellement désolé. Je vous ai manqué," He mumbled under his breath, barely audible even to the Racun's sensitive hearing. Ace dazed for a few moments while the girl touched various objects around his room.
"Sorry," Ace murmured to her, "Did you need someone to show you around the school? Like I mentioned, I have a free period before lunch."

Àstrid stood there shocked, she had never been touched with such gentleness. Her body had been touched roughly, but never caressed. His voice was gentle and soothing, even if it was not understandable it was something that no one had even done for her. The smoke circled around them, making the moment real.
"I can't find my dorm room." Her voice trended, she was mostly in a daze.

Goyte waited for Fiona awhile, and as he was about to get up, he felt her. She spoke with ease, and her lips sent warm blood pumping into his body. It did not feel the way that it did when other Jurehak had done so, it was something much more powerful. They had done something no one else ever had, it was something that was truly shared between friends.
His feet planted on the ground and he stood next Fiona wanting to kiss her the way humans did. Instead he contained the ritual, taking her hands, touching palms and making two circles counter clockwise. He whispered in the Jurehak ancient language, when they were finished the ground began to rumble and underneath their feet was a circle, with markings and came a gush of wind swirled around them, rainbow colors swarmed around them pushing them together, and then it stopped. He bent down and as he was about to touch her soft lips he pulled away, he could not live with himself taking advantage of her.
"Thank you." He spoke heavy.
He pulled away and spoke a little lighter, "Hey, it's getting late, you should go to your dorm."

It hurt, it hurt to be yelled at, it was not something he had enjoyed. And as she began to scream and cry, it hurt more to see her in pain then getting it by her fist, which bruised instantly. Annette kept yelling and then his face stung.
No one had ever laid their hand on him, no one.
And he had never done what he did to Annette, his left hand gripped her right arm and slammed her body against his, and with his left hand gently tugged on her hair making her face him. Elia shoved his face against her, their lips pushed together, his were wet against her dry.
It was the only thing he knew to keep her from crying, or yelling at him any longer. When she stop moving around he parted his lips and moved away.
"We are suppose to be friends!" He shouted out. Tears bubbled, but his voice lowered and calmed.
"I don't care. I don't care if you are a Flungmon(an ugly, dumb animal on Earthin.). We are friends, you shook on it." He lifted his hand and pointed at it.

Ace continued looking at Àstrid, apparently still in a trance. His eyes seemed to look past her, as if he was stuck in a memory. A soft buzz filled the room, accompanied by an 8 bit tune of La Marseillaise played on piano. Shakily, he reached into the depths of his pocket and pulled out a cell phone.

"Hello?" He asked it.

"Dr. Diamond?"A voice on the other end responded.

"Yes, what is it?" Ace asked.

"There's been an incident. You need to report with Agent Smith outside in the courtyard as soon as possible."

"Why, what's going on?" He asked again.

"Your line in insecure. Come alone, no students. We will debrief you then. Over and out."

Ace sighed, hanging up his phone. Why were they always so formal? Whatever it was, it sounded fairly serious. Hopefully they weren't going to charge him with smoking in the classroom, although, if they had, he would've no doubt been reprimanded over the phone.
He turned to Àstrid, "I'm sorry about that. I'll accompany you to the dorm area, if you like." Ace beckoned to the classroom door in such a way that his motion seemed to point down the hallway and out the door to the courtyard.

The girl stuttered and was so weak it made Sky even more upset. But at least it wasn't a human, or that stupid boy with the cigarette she had to deal with so early in the morning.
"I want that one, it's the one far from the window, next time, don't be in my way." Her eyes darted at the girl.
Sky went to put a blanket on the window to keep any sun from shinning in. It was annoying how the school did not yet allow night courses or rooms without windows.
still building and waiting for the funds they had told her, after she was already in the damn school.
Sky laid down and closed her eyes, she didn't bother changing clothes, she didn't bother talking to the girl, until Sky spoke loud enough for the girl to hear.
"Have you ever been in love with someone you hated?" Sky pictured the boy with the cigarette. She hadn't gotten him out of her head all day, he was such an ass, and had what seemed to be balls.

Àstrid walked beside Ace with such wonderment, her eyes never left him for a second. They walked in silence for most of it until Àstrid spoke up.
"Who is Mr. Smith?" She spoke with the same bubblegum tone. This was not like her, asking a human or anyone, about something she ears dropped. She had been punished very badly for it enough times to have learned her lesson, but something inside her found itself asking such a question.
It was hard to tell if it was the question or the sudden talk that surprised Ace.

Ace smiled halfway again, now knowing what they had meant by insecure. He knew that she was able to hear, being a Racun and all, but he could hear a slight strain on her voice when she asked, as if she expected a certain reaction from him.
He looked over at her, "He's this big scary guy in a military uniform. He's got huge bulgy muscles and an ugly face." His tone made it clear he was embellishing the guy's appearance drastically.
"But in all seriousness," he continued, "The guy is my, well, the government folks call him my 'handler', whatever that is. He's the guy they send when they need something from me. I wish they would send someone else, his breath smells really bad most of the time." Ace chuckled to himself.
As they crossed the courtyard and headed to the dorms, Ace smoked the rest of his cigarette in a pensive silence. I wonder what happened, anyway. Hopefully that Goyte guy hasn't murdered anyone. He touched his deck of cards in his pocket.
"Hey, I don't think I ever caught your name, Ms.-" His voice trailed off, awaiting her reply.

Àstrid listened, he laughed and told about Smith lightly, as though it was nothing to be worried about, but she found herself worried for him.
As he talked she laughed when he did, not to fit in, but because she felt the need to. Though laughing was something that never seemed to occur, smiling, never laughing, that was her life.
A room, a bed, four walls, food, and water, she smiled because that was who she was, but laughing was not something she could turn into so when she laugh, she enjoyed it. It was a gift, a gift. Ace gave her, her first gift.
He asked her name which was hard for her.
"I'm Àstrid Rue." Her voice was no longer bubblegum, it turned sour and quite.
Àstrid loved the family she had, she would never do anything to disappoint them, but Rue was the name of the dog that family had had they called her Rue, though the rest of the family was called Parker, it was always stung to hear it out loud.

Ace smiled warmly, despite noticing the sharp change in her voice. His eyes drifted down to the collar around her neck, and a lump formed in his throat. Such an item flew in the face of what Ace knew about Racun culture. This girl seemed to be hiding something, of that much he was certain.
He knew better than to ask about the collar directly, but he would have to imagine that someone had given it to her. He dreaded to think that she was forced to wear such a thing. Racun slave rings weren't completely unheard of, but Ace never expected anything like this so near the Academy. Perhaps he needed to keep a close eye on the girl for the time being. Certainly that would be for the best.
Ace spoke warmly,"What a lovely name. Although, I'm not sure that Rue is a good fit for your personality, that sounds like the name of a grumpy female bull dog living in a flat in Nottingham. Are you happy with it?"

It struck her. The question punched her in the gut, it had become hard to breath. She knew the right answer but he threw in the word dog, and she began to fall into a swallowing pit of darkness. A frown was place on her soft lips, and when this was noticed by her she shifted it into a smile.
"Of course I love it. I have to love. It is my name." She was a robot, programed to say such things.
Her hands touched the collar and then they dropped by her side.
"Ace." Her voice was different, it sounded older than fourteen, as she was someone else. Someone she never knew. It felt foreign.
"I'm sorry, I don't know where there came from." Her voice was bubblegum tone.
Before any more question could happen they found themselves at the dorm room. Àstrid turned to Ace and smiled.
"Thank you. I would have never found this without your help. Try to stay out of trouble." She winked at him, but before she left, her hand touched his face, it was not something she had thought to do, but it was something her body felt she should have done.
She couldn't understand what was happening, it felt out of character to do what she had been doing with the teacher.
Àstrid turned and went into the girls dorm, with the way he felt lingering on her hand.

Ace silently observed her reactions, studying her actions and voice inflections as she spoke. His worst fear seemed to be realized, at least from what he could tell. Not that he would be able to tell anything from her last name, of course. Whoever they were, they were smart enough to cover their tracks. Ace would have to approach the situation in a different manner if he wanted to get to the bottom of it.

"Ace." Her voice was different, it sounded older than fourteen, as she was someone else.

Ace gasped a little, his pupils expanding when she said this to him. Immediately his mind wandered backwards to where it had been when she had touched him earlier. In his mind, her figure changed into a different person. He stood there, entranced by the vision. In his mind, he heard her say her next sentence a little differently.

"Je vous remercie. Je n'aurais jamais trouvé sans votre aide. Essayez de rester hors des ennuis."

It was then that she touched his face, and once again his hand touched against hers, in the manner of a husband touching his wife's hand. He lingered there while she left to enter the dorms. Wind whistled around him, knocking him from his trance. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it with a little difficulty.
"Weird," he said to himself. Ace steeled his nerves for what was to come next. He turned and walked towards the courtyard, the tingling sensation of her hand against his cheek.
