The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 2 authors
Annie didn't really wear a lot of dresses, not usually at least. Today was an exception though, August 31st, her birthday. Or well, that was yesterday, it was at least four or five AM now. Understandably, not a lot of people remembered her birthday. It was a few days after the first day of school, meaning they had other things on their mind, and it wasn't like she was popular. Actually, she had never wanted to be popular, since day one she was pushing people away and making people dislike her. So that wasn't really her fault as much as it was hers. Though her parents had no excuse, not this year. They were away on this annual work-holiday-trip thing, didn't even call her. Her mum sent her a text to remind her to take out the dog, but they didn't have a dog, and she passed it off as a drunk text that her parents would be trying to make her forget about by taking her on some expensive shopping trip. Or well, sending her on one, both were too busy to actually accompany her there.
It wasn't even a cute dress. It was a I-can't-wear-jeans-and-a-tank-to-my-own-party-so-I'll-settle-for-this sort of dress. That's why she didn't bother taking it off before heading out her back door and walking the path into the woods. It was dimly lit at first, her dad had paid some guys to set out twinkly lights sporadically on the path, probably aiming for romantic. Though as the path wore on, and grew less visible, the lights stopped. No worries though, she knew where she was going. For a long time she walked, and her feet got sore so she took off her heels and started walking barefoot, carrying them instead. Not long after she reached the little pond and stream, the misty atmosphere making her hair frizz a little. Curling up in the little alcove in her tree, which wasn't actually hers but she spent enough time there to be able to call it that, she let herself break down. Tears didn't come immediately, she just sort of sat there and sniffled pathetically, wiping at her nose before eventually yes, warm tears rolled down her cheeks and she was sniffling even louder, glad that no one was out there to hear her.
He came to a slow stop as the sniffling got louder, his urge to help was overwhelming he looked from where he was standing, it was a girl crying her eyes out. He walked slowly crouching down the sit opposite her crossing his legs underneath him. She must have heard him by now otherwise him sitting in front of her would probably terrify her.
" Excuse me are you okay?" he asked his voice soft he gave a comforting smile to her to ease her worries that he would not hurt her.

She probably should have been scared when a strange man- though a hot man -came and sat in front of her, but she wasn't. It wasn't like being scared was going to help anything, he was a lot taller and a lot stronger than her, if he wanted to hurt her there was nothing she could have done about it. Though he asked if she was okay, which was probably a good sign, she didn't really think a psychopath would care why she was crying. That didn't matter either though, because a new thought occurred to her. She was crying in front of a stranger- she didn't even cry in front of her family. Immediately she stopped sniffling, and wiped at her eyes again and wished that she could do something about the make-up that was no doubt streaked onto her cheeks now.
After another moment she nodded, biting her bottom lip harshly to keep tears at bay. "I- fuck." Her voice broke the first time she tried to speak, coming out in a half-sob before she shut herself up again, eyes shut tightly. A few seconds seemed like an eternity, but she eventually calmed herself down enough to think and hopefully speak coherently. "Sorry." It occurred to her that she still had not answered his question, but she wasn't really quite sure how to answer it. Was she okay? Probably not. "What are you doing here?" What was she doing here? "I mean, that's a weird question since I'm here too, and it's not like I own this place." Still, she had visited this place regularly since she had stumbled upon it when she was four, and had never seen anyone else there. And she would have remembered someone that looked like he did.
She then asked him a question, wanting to know what he was doing in the woods. The question stumped him for a few moments as he wanted to explain why he was there but didn't want to sound weird. Taking a short breath he spoke " There's no need to apologize, I was just out for a walk. The time seems inappropriate I know but I couldn't sleep so I came out here. It's a nice night so it gives me time to think as well as waking me up for the morning ahead." Giving another smile he asked another question " Do you live far from here? I could take you home the woods can be dangerous at night" he raised his eyebrows a little putting his hands in his lap.

She listened to him talk for awhile, explaining himself sort of. She liked that he didn't ask what she was doing out in the woods, or more appreciated it. You didn't run into a crying girl at four in the morning every day that's for sure. "It's about a twenty minute walk back to my house." She didn't mention which way, figuring that would at least help a little if he planned on coming after her in the future. "I wouldn't mind the company. Though if you're planning on trying to kidnap me or something once we get there, don't bother. My parents may be wealthy, but they won't pay much for me." Afterwards she realized it probably wasn't wise to say they had money, he would think they had expensive things in their house- they did -but she couldn't take it back. "Come on then, potential kidnapper, this way to ma maison." Annie stood, brushing off her dress before offering her hand to him.
When she commented about her parents it sounded like she thought they didn't care for her, perhaps they did or perhaps they didn't it wasn't his time to make judgments. She held her hand out obviously trying to help him up, if he did take her hand and use her weight to pull himself up he would have probably put her right back on the floor. Taking her hand lightly he stood up from where he was hardly pulling on her hand, looking down at her small frame he must have seemed light a giant to her being how tall he was.
" After you." He said " you can explain to me why you were here crying as we walk if you like. You don't have to" he added as an after thought he would never pressure anyone to do something they didn't want to do that was just mean.
She noticed how he didn't actually use her at all to pull himself up, not surprising, she would have just ended back up on the ground. But he didn't just brush her hand away, and she noted amusingly that his hand basically covered hers. After a moment, she started walking, at first ahead of him and then slowing slightly so they could walk together. Three of her steps equaled one of his, because her legs were so short. "Well, this is sort of a weird reason to be crying, but today's my birthday." A pause, then a moment later she added. "Or, yesterday was. Did you know it was a blue moon?" It was the first in a long time, and on her birthday! "Anyways, people usually forget, beginning of the school year and all, understandable. But this year my parents even forgot, left on some trip." Usually, she didn't talk this much, but she found it sort of easy to talk to him- she didn't know him. "It doesn't matter though, you know? I wasn't crying, just like, allergies."
His heart sank a littler when she said that everyone had forgotten her birthday even her parents, that would just awful no one should be alone on their birthday. A birthday was a way to celebrate another year over but another year gained.
" It does matter your parents should be their for your birthday and if not your friends, perhaps next year if you say they always forget, you could have a party at your house on a weekend then they are bound to remember. Really allergies? you seemed pretty upset the way you were cuddled up the that tree"
It wasn't long before they came to a pathway that led both into and out of the woods. " Here we are then, its that your place there?" he asked pointing to the closest house.
Eventually they came to the end of the woods, and she stopped to turn and fully look at him. "I don't even think I care so much about the people-forgetting thing." She said eventually, shrugging. "Just needed to cry I guess, shit gets hard sometimes." Wasn't that the truth? She wished she could be like guys, just punch things to get the anger and stress out. "And I was not cuddled up to the tree!" After a moment, she realized what she was doing- she was stalling. It was because she didn't want to be alone, didn't want him to leave because she didn't want to do anything she would regret later on. "Do you want to come in or something? I'm pretty sure by now that you're not going to try and kill me. Besides, you look like you could get a little extra sleep anyways." Her house had more than one guestroom- it was a fairly large house -, unless he wanted to sleep in hers.
The next thing she was doing was inviting him to stay the night with her, he rubbed his eye as he thought about an answer. If she wanted to stay with him he would, but he had not idea what she was expecting him to do. He smiled " sure I can stay for a little bit if you don't mind" he said being polite as always. He could do with a sleep and then he would go for a run to wake himself up a bit more.
The back door was still open a little, she noticed as she hopped up the few steps onto the patio. Once she glanced back to make sure the stranger was coming, and then opened the door and left it open so he could get inside. "Do you want something to drink? I think I'm making coffee." If she didn't burn the house down first, she never was good at cooking.
He paused she asked him wether he wanted a drink, shaking his head he spoke " no thanks I'm good, ill just crash on your couch if that's cool. Your too young to drink coffee anyway what are you 12? 13? " he gave a cheeky smiled as he leant against a counter waiting to see if she wanted to talk more.

Annie didn't really know how she ended up so short. Her mother was at least 5'5", and her dad was only a few inches shorter than Tristan was. It could have been from her grandparents or another relative, but she wouldn't know, she hadn't ever met them and her parents weren't so willing to offer up any sort of information about it. Either way, she didn't mind being short, she didn't have to worry about ever liking a guy shorter than her- most the guys in her school were rather short. "Gosh, with my luck I probably would start shrinking!" She made a sort of scared face, then started laughing again. "I think I'll just stick with staying this height, don't wanna push my luck. Besides, it comes in handy sometimes, I can wear heels and never be taller than my date."
Annie hardly even caught the accidental insult, which was probably a good thing. Though quiet, she was known for having a quick temper sometimes, probably from having both Irish and Italian heritage. She certainly took after the Irish side though, with her pale skin, her hair was the only part of her that didn't fit in. Tristan directed her attention towards the coffee pot and she promptly blushed, finding that she had completely forgotten about it actually and was ready to abandon it to talk more with the man. "Oops," she mumbled, clambering off the chair to go over to the cabinet and stretch again to get a mug. Soon she was back at the island, steaming cup of vanilla coffee sitting in front of her as she shoveled sugar into it. "So, do you live around here or were you just out for a really weird, five in the morning walk in the middle of nowhere?"
Tristan smiled as Annie asked him about where he lived and he wanted to answer truthfully but he would have to bend the truth just a little bit. " I live a couple of miles out of town, just outside of the other end of the forest. So I suppose you could class it as living around here yeah." He explained still leaning against the counter. " I like walks, it gives me a chance to think and sort my day out for the things I have to do, the forest calms me down in a strange way that's why I like going there a lot sort of a second home but without sleeping on the floor and stuff." He added giving a soft smile mainly to himself remembering summers and winters in the forest, when nature really showed its strengths and durability.
" have you lived here long?" He asked turning the conversation to her.
