Annie didn't really wear a lot of dresses, not usually at least. Today was an exception though, August 31st, her birthday. Or well, that was yesterday, it was at least four or five AM now. Understandably, not a lot of people remembered her birthday. It was a few days after the first day of school, meaning they had other things on their mind, and it wasn't like she was popular. Actually, she had never wanted to be popular, since day one she was pushing people away and making people dislike her. So that wasn't really her fault as much as it was hers. Though her parents had no excuse, not this year. They were away on this annual work-holiday-trip thing, didn't even call her. Her mum sent her a text to remind her to take out the dog, but they didn't have a dog, and she passed it off as a drunk text that her parents would be trying to make her forget about by taking her on some expensive shopping trip. Or well, sending her on one, both were too busy to actually accompany her there.

It wasn't even a cute dress. It was a I-can't-wear-jeans-and-a-tank-to-my-own-party-so-I'll-settle-for-this sort of dress. That's why she didn't bother taking it off before heading out her back door and walking the path into the woods. It was dimly lit at first, her dad had paid some guys to set out twinkly lights sporadically on the path, probably aiming for romantic. Though as the path wore on, and grew less visible, the lights stopped. No worries though, she knew where she was going. For a long time she walked, and her feet got sore so she took off her heels and started walking barefoot, carrying them instead. Not long after she reached the little pond and stream, the misty atmosphere making her hair frizz a little. Curling up in the little alcove in her tree, which wasn't actually hers but she spent enough time there to be able to call it that, she let herself break down. Tears didn't come immediately, she just sort of sat there and sniffled pathetically, wiping at her nose before eventually yes, warm tears rolled down her cheeks and she was sniffling even louder, glad that no one was out there to hear her.

Tristan walked slowly the air was mild and the wind was non existent, it was quite a nice night even if the moon would be upon him in a few days time. he paused briefly as the sound of sniffing infiltrated his ears. Wait. It wasn't sniffing it was crying, he broke into a small jog vaulting over logs and rocks in his way. Thoughts raced through his mind, who would be out here at this time of night? Tristan himself had trouble sleeping, well he never really slept for long too many nightmares plaguing his mind to sleep for long.

He came to a slow stop as the sniffling got louder, his urge to help was overwhelming he looked from where he was standing, it was a girl crying her eyes out. He walked slowly crouching down the sit opposite her crossing his legs underneath him. She must have heard him by now otherwise him sitting in front of her would probably terrify her.

" Excuse me are you okay?" he asked his voice soft he gave a comforting smile to her to ease her worries that he would not hurt her.

She probably should have been scared when a strange man- though a hot man -came and sat in front of her, but she wasn't. It wasn't like being scared was going to help anything, he was a lot taller and a lot stronger than her, if he wanted to hurt her there was nothing she could have done about it. Though he asked if she was okay, which was probably a good sign, she didn't really think a psychopath would care why she was crying. That didn't matter either though, because a new thought occurred to her. She was crying in front of a stranger- she didn't even cry in front of her family. Immediately she stopped sniffling, and wiped at her eyes again and wished that she could do something about the make-up that was no doubt streaked onto her cheeks now.

After another moment she nodded, biting her bottom lip harshly to keep tears at bay. "I- fuck." Her voice broke the first time she tried to speak, coming out in a half-sob before she shut herself up again, eyes shut tightly. A few seconds seemed like an eternity, but she eventually calmed herself down enough to think and hopefully speak coherently. "Sorry." It occurred to her that she still had not answered his question, but she wasn't really quite sure how to answer it. Was she okay? Probably not. "What are you doing here?" What was she doing here? "I mean, that's a weird question since I'm here too, and it's not like I own this place." Still, she had visited this place regularly since she had stumbled upon it when she was four, and had never seen anyone else there. And she would have remembered someone that looked like he did.

Tristan's head tilted to the side as the girl tried to talk but it seems she was still a bit upset, she then apologized to him and he had no idea why she was saying sorry for. She collected herself after a few minutes and seemed better than before. Her face did seem a bit red and the make up was smeared slightly, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a clean tissue as well as a water bottle from his jacket pocket, he moistened the tissue before handing it to the girl. " Here" he spoke softly.

She then asked him a question, wanting to know what he was doing in the woods. The question stumped him for a few moments as he wanted to explain why he was there but didn't want to sound weird. Taking a short breath he spoke " There's no need to apologize, I was just out for a walk. The time seems inappropriate I know but I couldn't sleep so I came out here. It's a nice night so it gives me time to think as well as waking me up for the morning ahead." Giving another smile he asked another question " Do you live far from here? I could take you home the woods can be dangerous at night" he raised his eyebrows a little putting his hands in his lap.

Annie eyed the tissue offered to her for a moment, willing to admit that she was wondering if it was just chloroform or some sort of drug that would knock her out. Either way around it though, if it was to knock her out, he would get her to inhale it one way or another. Fortunately when she accepted it and started gently dabbing at her eyes, hoping to wipe away the smeared make-up, she didn't find herself getting dizzy or sleepy. She took that as a good sign. Once she was satisfied that she had gotten as much cleared away as she could with a tissue and water, she balled it up in her fist and let her hands drop back to her lap.

She listened to him talk for awhile, explaining himself sort of. She liked that he didn't ask what she was doing out in the woods, or more appreciated it. You didn't run into a crying girl at four in the morning every day that's for sure. "It's about a twenty minute walk back to my house." She didn't mention which way, figuring that would at least help a little if he planned on coming after her in the future. "I wouldn't mind the company. Though if you're planning on trying to kidnap me or something once we get there, don't bother. My parents may be wealthy, but they won't pay much for me." Afterwards she realized it probably wasn't wise to say they had money, he would think they had expensive things in their house- they did -but she couldn't take it back. "Come on then, potential kidnapper, this way to ma maison." Annie stood, brushing off her dress before offering her hand to him.

The statement about him kidnapping her hurt him a little, that this was the first thing that came to her mind about him when they met. To be honest it was to be expected, what kind of guy goes up to a girl and talks to her randomly then offers to walk her home. But that was the kind of guy Tristan was, kind and helpful.

When she commented about her parents it sounded like she thought they didn't care for her, perhaps they did or perhaps they didn't it wasn't his time to make judgments. She held her hand out obviously trying to help him up, if he did take her hand and use her weight to pull himself up he would have probably put her right back on the floor. Taking her hand lightly he stood up from where he was hardly pulling on her hand, looking down at her small frame he must have seemed light a giant to her being how tall he was.

" After you." He said " you can explain to me why you were here crying as we walk if you like. You don't have to" he added as an after thought he would never pressure anyone to do something they didn't want to do that was just mean.

Annie rarely said things to hurt people. Though she was brutally honest, always, and if something she said hurt someone then well, you just sort of had to keep in mind that she wasn't trying to make you feel bad. That's one reason that she didn't have lots of friends, the few she tried to make either got tired of her being such a recluse, or were scared of her. Not because she was scary, again. It was hard to be truly scared of a five foot, hundred pound girl. Though the way she spoke, or the way she acted, it made her a little intimidating. Also the reason she didn't have a boyfriend, because, well, she was attractive.

She noticed how he didn't actually use her at all to pull himself up, not surprising, she would have just ended back up on the ground. But he didn't just brush her hand away, and she noted amusingly that his hand basically covered hers. After a moment, she started walking, at first ahead of him and then slowing slightly so they could walk together. Three of her steps equaled one of his, because her legs were so short. "Well, this is sort of a weird reason to be crying, but today's my birthday." A pause, then a moment later she added. "Or, yesterday was. Did you know it was a blue moon?" It was the first in a long time, and on her birthday! "Anyways, people usually forget, beginning of the school year and all, understandable. But this year my parents even forgot, left on some trip." Usually, she didn't talk this much, but she found it sort of easy to talk to him- she didn't know him. "It doesn't matter though, you know? I wasn't crying, just like, allergies."

He walked close by her watching her as she spoke as well as keeping an eye out for low hanging branches that might whack him on the head. Being so tall did have its disadvantages. She then began to explain that it was her birthday yesterday, more specifically on a blue moon. Tristan nodded in agreement that he did in fact know that it was a blue moon, they were so rare but in a way special. The wolf didn't cause as much pain on a blue moon it seemed to calm them both, to ease their pain.

His heart sank a littler when she said that everyone had forgotten her birthday even her parents, that would just awful no one should be alone on their birthday. A birthday was a way to celebrate another year over but another year gained.

" It does matter your parents should be their for your birthday and if not your friends, perhaps next year if you say they always forget, you could have a party at your house on a weekend then they are bound to remember. Really allergies? you seemed pretty upset the way you were cuddled up the that tree"

It wasn't long before they came to a pathway that led both into and out of the woods. " Here we are then, its that your place there?" he asked pointing to the closest house.

It wasn't even really so much her birthday that she was upset about. Most of the time, she could handle things. Having parents that were hardly ever around had some major advantages, she could probably tell them she was working the pole and doing drugs and they'd be alright. It was there way of "justifying" their absence in her life, by letting her do whatever she wanted(people included) and spend however much she wanted to. Such would be nice, if she actually wanted those things. Just served to prove, people always want what they can't have, and in her case it was discipline and parental guidance. And sometimes friends, but she wasn't so crazy about the idea of having to appease to someone all the time. Friends equaled drama, which meant you had to care.

Eventually they came to the end of the woods, and she stopped to turn and fully look at him. "I don't even think I care so much about the people-forgetting thing." She said eventually, shrugging. "Just needed to cry I guess, shit gets hard sometimes." Wasn't that the truth? She wished she could be like guys, just punch things to get the anger and stress out. "And I was not cuddled up to the tree!" After a moment, she realized what she was doing- she was stalling. It was because she didn't want to be alone, didn't want him to leave because she didn't want to do anything she would regret later on. "Do you want to come in or something? I'm pretty sure by now that you're not going to try and kill me. Besides, you look like you could get a little extra sleep anyways." Her house had more than one guestroom- it was a fairly large house -, unless he wanted to sleep in hers.

Tristan looked down at her as she spoke explaining that things got hard and sometimes emotions took over, he knew more about that that anyone around here. Closer and closer to a full moon meant heightened emotions so he was more dangerous to be around then, that's why he chose to hide it away.

The next thing she was doing was inviting him to stay the night with her, he rubbed his eye as he thought about an answer. If she wanted to stay with him he would, but he had not idea what she was expecting him to do. He smiled " sure I can stay for a little bit if you don't mind" he said being polite as always. He could do with a sleep and then he would go for a run to wake himself up a bit more.

Annie offered a small smile and she started walking again, picking her way through the rest of the foliage before emerging in her backyard. "If I minded, I wouldn't have offered." She told him, thinking that was quite obvious. Then again, he could just think she was trying to be kind since he had walked her home, and he didn't know her well enough to know that she wouldn't invite someone in just to be kind. Those sorts of people were pushovers, in her opinion. If she didn't like someone, she was sure as hell going to tell them that. And not invite them in afterwards.

The back door was still open a little, she noticed as she hopped up the few steps onto the patio. Once she glanced back to make sure the stranger was coming, and then opened the door and left it open so he could get inside. "Do you want something to drink? I think I'm making coffee." If she didn't burn the house down first, she never was good at cooking.

Tristan breathed in deeply as he stepped inside Annie's home, he was taking in all the sights and smells quickly incase he would have to come back in a time of urgency. He dipped his head slightly to avoid thumping his head on the door frame, yet another disadvantage.

He paused she asked him wether he wanted a drink, shaking his head he spoke " no thanks I'm good, ill just crash on your couch if that's cool. Your too young to drink coffee anyway what are you 12? 13? " he gave a cheeky smiled as he leant against a counter waiting to see if she wanted to talk more.

Annie turned around when she heard him talking, listening with a smile before laughing softly and shaking her head. "Shut up, I do not look that young." She shot back, still smiling as she turned back towards the counter and went up on her tiptoes to grab the bag of coffee grinds. "And you can't be that much older than me anyways, what are you? Nineteen? Twenty?" Okay, so that was a little bit older, considering she had just turned seventeen. In a few years though, that'd be nothing. Oh, the woes of being underage. A few moments later and she was fairly positive she had set up the machine right, and gently tapped a button on the side to start the coffee-making before taking a seat on one of the high island chairs, watching the stranger. "What's your name anyways?"

Tristan laughed softly putting his hands in his pockets as she asked him how old he was and what his name was. That's right he didn't tell her yet. " I'm Eighteen so only a year older really. My names Tristan" he said introducing himself for the first time. He hadn't spoken to anyone for a while people tended to avoid him especially due to the rumours and stories about him. It was odd that she hadn't questioned him more but he had a feeling that if they were to see each other again, more questions would be asked. " you are very young looking though and I don't mean that in a creepy way" he said folding his arms his muscles tensing as the bunched together.

There was something about talking to a stranger that just made it so much easier to get everything off of your mind, to just talk and not worry about how they would judge you. Because they didn't know you to judge you, and even if they did, it didn't matter because you didn't know them enough to truly care. Though she realized now that just knowing his name made it harder to talk to him, because now they weren't strangers, now he was in her house and was going to crash on her couch and she was sitting and chatting with him. "Tristan," she murmured, trying it out. "I like it. I'm Annie." Her gaze traveled to his arms when he crossed them, and wasn't surprised to see muscles. "It's my height, people have always thought I was younger than I really was." It wasn't like she hated being this short, but sometimes it could be a disadvantage. "What about you though? You're like a giant!" She teased, laughing.

Tristan smiled again giving a soft laugh that had hardly and depth to it " its nice to meet you Annie, I get my height from my dads side I suppose, but my mom was pretty tall too. I had an uncle who was almost 7ft though he was a real giant" he explained moving his hands a little, moving up to his face he rubbed his eyes. " perhaps when you hit eighteen you'll have a huge growth spurt and grow like 7 inches" he said " or you could start shrinking" he added laughing again. It felt good to laugh and to have company.

Annie didn't really know how she ended up so short. Her mother was at least 5'5", and her dad was only a few inches shorter than Tristan was. It could have been from her grandparents or another relative, but she wouldn't know, she hadn't ever met them and her parents weren't so willing to offer up any sort of information about it. Either way, she didn't mind being short, she didn't have to worry about ever liking a guy shorter than her- most the guys in her school were rather short. "Gosh, with my luck I probably would start shrinking!" She made a sort of scared face, then started laughing again. "I think I'll just stick with staying this height, don't wanna push my luck. Besides, it comes in handy sometimes, I can wear heels and never be taller than my date."

Tristan smiled softly and spoke " well there's nothing more embarasing that having a guy on his tiptoes going to kiss you that's for sure" he explained then he realised what he had said. That must have sounded so rude to her implying that she couldn't get a tall guy to go out with her. He spoke again " that wasn't meant to sound rude,I'm sorry, I must be tired or something. Your coffee is done" Tristan said pointing to the machine and sure enough the coffee machine began to boil and simmer down so the coffee could be poured. He never liked coffee it was a disgusting flavour a bit like dirt or drinking liquified wood.

Annie hardly even caught the accidental insult, which was probably a good thing. Though quiet, she was known for having a quick temper sometimes, probably from having both Irish and Italian heritage. She certainly took after the Irish side though, with her pale skin, her hair was the only part of her that didn't fit in. Tristan directed her attention towards the coffee pot and she promptly blushed, finding that she had completely forgotten about it actually and was ready to abandon it to talk more with the man. "Oops," she mumbled, clambering off the chair to go over to the cabinet and stretch again to get a mug. Soon she was back at the island, steaming cup of vanilla coffee sitting in front of her as she shoveled sugar into it. "So, do you live around here or were you just out for a really weird, five in the morning walk in the middle of nowhere?"

( sorry I've been busy at work and now I coming down with a cold)

Tristan smiled as Annie asked him about where he lived and he wanted to answer truthfully but he would have to bend the truth just a little bit. " I live a couple of miles out of town, just outside of the other end of the forest. So I suppose you could class it as living around here yeah." He explained still leaning against the counter. " I like walks, it gives me a chance to think and sort my day out for the things I have to do, the forest calms me down in a strange way that's why I like going there a lot sort of a second home but without sleeping on the floor and stuff." He added giving a soft smile mainly to himself remembering summers and winters in the forest, when nature really showed its strengths and durability.

" have you lived here long?" He asked turning the conversation to her.
