Evangeline (Crik)

0 · 118 views · located in Dungeon Master's Realm

a character in “Where Stories are Made”, as played by EKRonnie

Description

Name: Evangeline (Crik)

Gender: Female

Equipment: Evangeline can fashion a bow and arrows from natural materials, though this takes time. Once she does craft one, it will be a short bow and precise aim and great range.

History: Born with no father to speak of, Evangeline took to playing with the other children and undermining her single mother. When the sickness from the birth finally took hold of her mother, Evangeline skipped town with conflicted feelings of guilt and freedom. She scoured the countryside as her world fell into darkness, a king unfit to rule, being manipulated by unknown entities.

Only when Evangeline was hired to work in the castle, found as nothing but skin and bones when she was twelve, she eagerly set to work each day for a good meal and place to sleep. She even rose in the “ranks” of the maids, until she was sixteen and serving the King on her own. His bedroom, study and library were her responsibility. Anything and everything the King needed, she provided.

Until he made sexual advances toward her. Evangeline escaped the castle that same night, on the run from guards until daybreak where she stumbled upon the rumored band of rebels in the forest. They were concocting black magics against the King and demanded that she help them sneak inside. She refused at first, wanting to put the kingdom behind her and escape this world altogether. They trapped her, tied her up, and toyed with her until she finally gave in to the torture, scars sliding down her arms, legs and torso.

Disguised as a boy, she led them in the castle gates, sneaking through the markets until the gallows on the front step of the castle itself were in view. She helped them carry the magic bombs to the trash chute, a skilled elder among them ready for the signal to send them up with his amateur powers.

Before Evangeline could lead the others to the side door of the kitchens, he took her aside, handing her a metal charm in the shape of a circle, with a swirling pattern inside. “For strength,” he had whispered, and sent her on her way.

With the men, she helped them fight their way into the heart of the castle, her own use of a blade rudimentary, but her skill with a bow excellent from hunting while serving the King on his trips to the country. Now she was hunting her previous captors and again the sense of mingling guilt and freedom erupted inside her.

The black magic bombs were set at the heart of the castle. The men signaled for them all to vacate or to be blown to bits. Evangeline started to follow, but two guards dragged her back inside, unaware of what was about to happen. Not listening to her cries, they tore her clothes, revealing who she really was.

The explosion engulfed them all in flames and the last thing Evangeline remembers of her world was holding the metal charm from the man, and chanting for strength, for protections, as the flames licked her skin off.

How you came to the Dungeon Master's Realm: The explosion caused Evangeline to arrive in an unknown realm, barely clothed and burns fading from her skin. The metal charm was gone, but the same swirl-like pattern was now a scar in the middle of her palm where she held it before.

Talents, Abilities, and Powers: Evangeline is very skilled with a bow and arrows, in making them as well. During her time at the castle, she learned many of the tricks and tips from every station there. She had friends in all parts of the castle, which was how she was able to sneak the rebels in so easily.

The metal charm is now absorbed into her skin, giving Evangeline the ability to heal herself whenever severely injured. Only near death or what would be death can trigger this ability though. Minor wounds will stick around. The charm also had given her the ability to conjure spirits, the same way the old man was able to manipulate the world around him. She has yet to know how to control these spirits however and is often plagued by their presence.

Sexual Orientation: Straight

Appearance: Evangeline stands at an average 5’3” height with toned muscles and a curvy figure. After leaving the castle, she has taken to wearing men’s clothing to hide herself among the rebels, donning the name Crik as well. She refuses to cut her long deep chocolate hair though, stuffing it in a hat. Her eyes match her hair, brown and deep. She usually stands quite tall from all her training days in the castle, but is easily frightened into cowering stances and hiding.

Personality: Evangeline (Crik) has conflicting feelings about many things, which annoys her greatly. She is intelligent and studies the world around her constantly, wondering what is truly right and wrong in the world. She is happy to help others, perhaps too eager, and finds herself even being manipulated for her kind nature, which led to her responsibility of the King’s quarters in the first place.

She is gentle and soft spoken, not speaking nearly at all and keeping to herself most of the time. She struggles internally about the deaths she has caused and the lack of strength to stand up for herself. Easily frightened by new things, she needs to study every aspect of strange before interacting like a proper civil human being.

Theme of original realm/universe: Evangeline’s world consisted of medieval kingdoms and governments, monarchies falling to ruin all across the globe from dark magics, war and religious persecution. It is a changing age during her lifetime, the monarchies failing to win the war against the free nations across the seas. Magic has been rising in use. Just as Evangeline is transported to the Realm, her kingdom has fallen and salvation is met for all in it, a freedom she will not experience.

So begins...

A portal opened, introducing to the realm two ,echas units firing at each other, one to kill, the other to disable. The one trying to kill was flying a mechy unit which, in bird mode, resembled a jet plane with a falcon's head. This was the G6-E4 Falcon, piloted by the Metargo ace, Aaron Lextu. The mecha unit attempting to disable the opponent, in bird form, appeared to be a jet plane with an eagle's head. This one was the 019-S7 Eagle, manned by Benjlakki ace, Zechariah Malachi. Even though they were not in the Benjlakki Republic land of Fertaninn, anymore, their dogfight in the sky resumed as if they were, each evading the other's shots with incredible skill.

Slowly, but surely, it became apparent that the one-on-one skirmish would not be decided by bird-mode tactics, as the two pilots were evenly matched in that regard. They switched strategies by switching to humanoid-mode once both of them exhausted their bird-mode manuevers to the point where they became too predictable. The dogfight continued to decorate the sky around them with solar-energy beams and supernatural blasts the whole time.

Meanwhile, the two pilots began exchanging words with each other in obvious anger. Aaron was infuriated by Zechariah's inteference with his attack swoop, whereas Zech tried furiously to convince him to stop fighting. The entire conversation could be heard by people below the scene, on the ground, because of the radio systems installed in each unit.

"You've got some nerve messing with me, Benjlakki scum!"

"The battle's over, already! Please, hold your fire! We don't need to fight, anymore!"

"It's not over 'till I stop breathing!"

"C'mon! The war has stopped, at this point! The Benjlakki Republic and Metargo Kingdom are probably working towards a treaty, right now! Whatever Metargo needs could be provided by Benjlak to avoid another one of these wars, and that would be that! You may have lost, but that does not mean Benjlakk is just going to leave Metargo to its fate! Things have always been sorted out after each war, and that's how it will always be!"

"Shut up and fight me!"

Just as their heated conversation concluded, both pilots' mecha units were disabled by each other's shots. The result was both of them crash landing near each other, smoke piling up in their cockpits, located within the bird heads. Zechariah and Aaron opened their cockpits in time to avoid suffocating as they droped onto the soft grass to recover, helmets off. They caught wind shortly prior to the two of them noticing one another were still alive.

Zechariah let out a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness, you're okay!"

Aaron pulled out his pistols. "Don't mock me!"

The Benjlakki soldier dodged the fire blasts in time to pull his own solar-powered pistol and open firing simultaneously. Surely enough, it would seem like a danced to untrained eyes, thanks to both young men having uncanny reflexes, speed, and flexibility. Zechariah fell to the ground after receiving a fire bolt to the shoulder, pretending to be more injured than he actually was. Aaron, took the bait and fired with both of his pistols, Zech rolling to the side to shoot him at the hip. At this point, the Metargo soldier could not continue the fight, so he took off as swiftly his feet could take him, into the forest behind him.

Thankfully, Zechariah was not severely injured due to his naturally heavy resistance to supernatural energy, though his injury to the shoulder still hurt like heck. He could move the arm well enough, though he had to restrain from too much movement in that area of his body for a while. Moments like these made the Benjlakki soldier glad he had an advanced med kit with him at all times.

Getting up, he walked on ove to his downed mecha unit, analyzing the damage with precise calculations. He released a frustrated groan at what he concluded. "Even with the right equipment, the 019-S7 Eagle will take weeks to repair by myself. Might as well leave it here. Not much else I can do." He then realized a woman close to his age was watching him the whole time as he glanced around to survey his surroundings. Something was odd about her. She appeared to be a civilian, yet her clothing was torn at countless locations as if she survived an explosion from a previous battle. The Benjlakki soldier immediately looked away with a blush, making every attempt to be gentlemanly. "Well, uh... Hi." Clearing his throat, he added. "Well, miss, before we... talk any further, we should have you wear something more... decent." He brought out his light khaki jacket from his military backpack. "You can button up this jacket once you put it on, and then -what do you know?- a makeshift dress." Still glancing away, not even peeking, Zechariah placed the jacket around her before sitting down, his face the opposite direction of her. "Let me know when you're covered."

As he waited for the young woman to signal that it was okay, he thought to himself, This is definitely not Fertaninn, as far as I can tell. Where did that portal take me? Am I now outside the Benjlakki Republic?

She shivered, opening her eyes.

The last words she remembered hearing were "Crik, get out of there! Crik!" Robin's face, surrounded by smoke, was slack with distress, mouth agape. She was already dead, she knew, but she had smiled all the same even as the guards ripped her clothing down to reveal her female anatomy.

They gave shouts of triumph, but she didn't hear them, she only saw the swirling black orb in slow motion, curling down the corridor like an innocent play thing.

"CRIK!"

Her eyes lifted, rough hands violating her. It was a nice way to die, she thought. Destroy the castle that gave her so much grief, and take the scum touching her along for the ride. Still, she held strong to the charm the old man gave her, the circular piece of metal etched with swirls. If Fate be willing, I will live, she chanted in her mind. Let me be strong.

As soon as the purple remnants of magic released from the black orb, the panic set in, reality caught up. She noticed the tears falling down her face and she screamed until her throat could no longer stand the sharp sound.

The explosion hit and she blacked out, whispering for protection. Hoping for a way out.

The following explosion woke her up.

Dirt comforted her where she lay, softer than the dry dust in the forest of the kingdom. She didn't know where she was, how she had gotten there or how the temperature seemed to have dropped so quickly. Voices echoed around her and she covered her ears, still crying.

"The battle's over, already! Please, hold your fire! We don't need to fight, anymore!"

"It's not over 'till I stop breathing!"

The strange metal birds in the sky had her back on the ground where she was attempting to stand from. There were too many words to gasp, but none escaped her sore throat, her body aching the more it woke up. Thankfully her fear fueled adrenaline rush dealt with a majority of the pain, the metal figures glinting under the sun and...heading for the ground.

She whimpered, managing to stand and skitter away. She had never seen such creatures, large as dragons, explosions zooming towards one or the other as if they were in battle. Once crashing, the ground shook and she stumbled yet again, not recognizing any of her surroundings, the smell of exhaust and flames swirling around her head in an unfamiliar combination of disgust. She started away, shivering.

The forest however looked dangerous. Much more so than the one in her kingdom. Darkness seemed to collect there in a mass of shadows that shouldn't exist under the open daylight. Whispers attacked her ears, some giggling. Turning back, she wondered what to do now, tears blurring her sight the entire way there.

Her clothes were rags she realized and she would need proper protection if she was to survive a trek to the nearest village. No one would take her in the way she looked.

For the first time, she wondered what had happened.

Then realized she had been heading straight back to the mysterious metal creatures, smoke drifting in the air like dark clouds, fleeing to some other location. Her voice was lost when she saw a man standing beside one crashed creature, speaking low and in defeat. When their eyes met, she wanted to run. Just run. Run away and he won't...hurt you...

"Well, uh... Hi."

Murderers rarely said hi.

"Well, miss, before we... talk any further, we should have you wear something more... decent."

He offered his jacket, a strange piece of cloth with buttons and pockets and insignia she had never seen before. His face was red, another sign that he didn't intend to hurt her. Shivering from the cold, she pulled the sleeves on, buttoning it as he suggested, though fumbling a bit since she rarely used buttons on her own clothing. That's when she noticed her hands, and arms, and legs. The black crust from the burns that should have been there, wasn't. Scars traced down her arms, the magic torture of the forest rebels forever present on her skin now, but the burns...well, they weren't there. They should have been, she felt them, but no...nothing.

Staring at her hands, she heard him say, "Let me know when you're covered."

His accent was different from hers, harsher, but the same language. She watched him for a long moment, then tried to speak.

"Th...u..." she tried to say, realizing she had lost her voice. Sighing, she tapped his shoulder instead. Nodding to the jacket, she gave a half-smile which vanished immediately when she saw his face again. He was so foreign looking. So dangerous. Her eyes immediately flicked to the crashed metal and the fire and steam rising from the wreckage. It seemed the creature had been massacred.

She took two steps away, unsure whether to trust this man or not.

Zechariah's train of thought was interrupted when the young woman behind him tried to speak, yet failed. Something must have happened to her, maybe that possible explosion she was in has something to do with it? She heard a sigh, then felt her tap his shoulder. When she nodded, he said, "You're welcome." That was when he noticed her acting as if she had a sudden fear of him, taking a quick glance at the Eagle. "What's wrong?"

Looking at his downed vehicle, he added, "Oh. That. It is... was... my mech unit, the 019-S7 Eagle. It was one of the most advanced military vehicles the Benjlakki Republic made. It... was also a prototype. I was entrusted with testing it as I fought in the war to defend the Benjlakki Republic against the Metargo Kingdom's aggression."He brought out a stack of several papers. "I have the schematics for the unit if you want to skim through them. Now that it was downed by the pilot of that other unit you see all banged up, I don't have to hide these from civilians. I'm just glad that guy who was piloting the opposing unit is still alive, and that I didn't have to kill him. I hate war, let alone fighting in one. The reason I'm in a military uniform is because I was drafted; Congress and the President ordered me to head to the nearest recruitment office once the war started, leaving me no choice but to do so." Head downcast, he introduced himself. "My name's Zechariah. What's yours?"

The Dungeon Master then stops making game pieces and looks at the three NEW game pieces that have appeared on the game board. He then stares at them and examines them. He then smiles and lifts up a little chest on his throne with his powers. The chest then floats onto his palm as he opens it, revealing an assortment of almost infinite game pieces. He then takes out one game piece, it is a a floating book. The book is being held up with a podium, but it is able to fly on it's own. The Dungeon Master then touches this game piece with his finger. The game piece then gains a blue aura. This aura then flashes in The Dungeon Master's eyes for a brief moment, showing that now HE can control this one game piece. He then places this game piece gently on the game board with his telekinetic powers.

The book then appears physically near the group of new adventurers. He then notices one of the game pieces moving to the forest area on his game board. "Heh, he must be a brave one" says The Dungeon Master. He then takes out another game piece out of his tiny chest. He then takes out a beastly game piece. It has dark green skin and a body shaped like an alligator. It also has a frill around its neck and a set of talons on it's feet. "Drake, your name will be Drake!" says The Dungeon Master. "This might give him some fun!" says The Dungeon Master. He then places this game piece near the entrance to the forest area on his game board. After that, he takes out another game piece of the book. It looks just like the first one, but more wicked. It has spikes latching onto the corners and has a more blackish redish color. Unlike the first book which was more of a blue color and had gold latching onto the corners instead. He then touches his finger on this wicked book and a red aura appears on the book. The red aura then flashes in The Dungeon Master's left eye, revealing the blue aura in his right. He then places this wicked book behind the Drake. Light then flashes on his face, revealing the red aura color on his left eye, and the blue one on his right.

Ulelahoen is then walking around her village in a giddy mood. She then waves at a few people in her village as they smile and wave back saying "Hello Ulea!". She smiled at every "Hello" said to her. She then goes to the elder tree and does her daily prayer to the elven gods. She then looks at the tree once more and wonders "Are the gods real". She then stops thinking about it and continues walking to her hut. She then enters it and looks around. There where four rooms, the kitchen, the guest room, the family room, and her room. She then enters her room and looks out the window. The place is like a jungle, nature every where. She then smiles under her mask and lays in bed, sleeping. Suddenly, a loud boom was heard and wakes Ulea up. She then jumps out of bed and grabs her sack with her staff and the rest of her equipment. She then runs outside and sees the village on fire. A bunch of villagers are running around in panic and fleeing. While some warriors where fighting for their home. Bandits where attacking, dark elves probably. She then tarts fighting off the bandit attack, until they start burning the elder tree. Luckily, Ulea was able to fend off the evil dark elves and stop them from damaging the tree any more. But, one of them cut open a hole in the elder tree. Ulea was then shocked by this and pounced on this bandit, pushing him and herself into the elder tree. They then fall on a dirt ground and in a forest, not Ulea's forest village though. The Drake is then seen sleeping, in front of a book. Ulea then stares at the Drake, until she sees the bandit running away from Ulea in panic and screaming. The Drake is then awakened by the screaming and stomps towards the bandit. It then pounces on him and starts eating him. Ulea is then shocked by this and jumps into the trees for safety. The Drake makes a large burp sound and walks back to it's sleeping spot and rests, still in front of that book. Ulea is sitting in the tree with her staff. She then takes out this staff and holds it toward the Drake. Green light then starts to seep out of the staff, reaching towards the Drake.

Before he could get the woman's response to his question on her name, Zechariah heard a sound behind him. When he turned to look, he spotted a book between himself and her. "Hmm... That's odd. Who would send a book our way?" Examining it, he saw that some of the pages were blank, while the rest contained useful information on the world the two of them were in. "It seems to be incomplete. This makes me wonder: why would someone dump this in the middle of writing it?"

-----

Aaron rested next to a tree for a moment to catch his breath while tending to the wound to the hip from the gunfight. It was a wonder he was still alive. Had that Benjlakki soldier aimed higher up his torso, the Metargo ace would have been a goner without medical attention. "He's got skill, I'll give him that." What treatment he applied from his med kit would last him for a couple weeks, provided he does not get involved in too many fights, though he would still need to head to the nearest town for complete medical attention.

Just as he was about to check his digital map, a red light came out of nowhere. What could be going on, out here? He followed the light until he came across a Drake, along with a red book behind it. An animal guarding an artificially made item? How is that possible? Aaron kept his distance while up on a tree so to keep watch with his Gryffin-9 Sniper Rifle. What he saw amazed him: two more people, one an elf while the other he could not tell what species, accidentally ended up in this world because of fighting one another. The male was eaten by the Drake while the unconfirmed gender went up in a tree, like he did beforehand.

Of course, witnessing the survivor aim the staff at the drake made the man grit his teeth. Is that person crazy!? Taking on the creature along is suicide! That was when he aimed his rifle at the Drake's closed eye before firing, the lightning blast exploding on impact to take out that eye and stunning the beast simultaneaously. Aarn took the time he had to try and contact the survivor via radio communications, yet could not get a signal through. This person might not have a comm disk on him/her, at all. The Drake inched nearer and neaer to his location, though slowly, which meant there was no rush to hop from tree to tree. The Metargo soldier began open firing with his Dragon-5 Assault Rifle, which shot out fire blasts at a rapid pace, exactly eight blasts per second. Damn! That hide is thick! It won't last long, though, at the rate the shots are piercing through! Just a little longer, and its brain will be fried!

Ulela was then frightened by that attack on the Drake. She then points her staff at the Drake once more as the nature magic shoots into it's body. The creature then opens it's eyes wide with a green glow in it. It then turned away from Aaron, blocking the blasts with it's tail. It then walks towards the tree Ulela was hidden in. Ulela then jumps from the tree and lands on the Drake's back. She then looks back at Aaron and makes a growl. She then points at the darkness of the forest as the Drake charges on ward. The book though is not touched.

Although, the good book was in safe keeping. It then lifts from it's podium and starts hovering near the two. It then opens it's pages to a hidden page that looked like a sheet of mirror. The mirror surface then starts warping into the face of The Dungeon Master. The Dungeon Master then looks at the two travelers and smiles under his tentacles. "Hello, adventurers. You have stumbled upon this one book. You will need this book, fore it updates itself of the realm you are in as we speak. It will also allow you to contact me for trouble. Now you may want to know where exactly you are right now, but you are in MY realm. I am The Dungeon Master, the powerful being who controls this place. I see everything, control everything, made everything, so not funny business against me. Anyways, you have stumbled upon my realm by an unknown reason. I have made openings to your realms so that you may enter here, and 'entertain' me. I like to watch you mortals do anything! Fight, embark quests, be heroic! or be evil! anything! So now you know, but I cannot help you forever. I know a good village up west past that forest over there, so get to it...I know you will have fun getting there..." explains The Dungeon Master. The mirror page then fades and turns into a blank page, with an arrow pointing to the direction of the forest, a compass perhaps? But, they The Dungeon Master looks back at the entrance to the forest and notices the Drake game piece and a game piece of an elf heroine merging into one game piece of the elf riding the Drake. He then makes a 'pah' sound and opens his little treasure chest and takes out a game piece of a squad of penguins, weird. He then throws this game piece onto the center of the forest of the game board.

The penguins then appear in the center of the forest in a big red flash. They look normal, cut actually. A squirrel then scurries towards the squad as a penguin picks it up. The penguin then stares at the squirrel curiously with no expression as the squirrel smiles. Laser beams then come out of the penguin's eyes as they turn blood red. By the time the lasers are gone, nothing is left of the squirrel then a pile of bones.

Aaron's eyes widened at the sight of the spellcaster's magic influencing the Drake to block his shots while heading towards him/her -he still could not tell what gender the person was-. The moment the drake charge at him was the moment he repeatedly hopped to another tree, up until he was a distance of 50 meters away from the new enemy. "That ungrateful little...!" He pulled out one of the explosives from his belt. "Let's see you charge through this!"

Once he threw the explosve, it exploded into hundreds of mini mines which spread within an area enough to engulf the drake the foe was on in a series of explosions if they dare come at him, again. If that did not work, he would resort to shooting with his assault rifle in between tree hopping. This time, he would be aiming at the spellcaster. As far as he was concerned, that person was just an obstacle in the way of his true objective: that of eliminating the Benjlakki soldier.

---

Meanwhile, Zechariah listened intently to what the Dungeon Master said. He kept calm the whole time until the image on the page disappeared. "You know? That guy who just explained what this book does gives me the creeps. Still, if everything he said is true, it's best not to provoke him into anything we can't get out of." bringing out one of the devices from his equipment belt, he added, "Look, as a soldier from the Republic of Benjlakk, I'm not about to leave a civilian behind, especially given the situation. Militaries are meant to protect. For any government to use such for aggression or personal gain would be to disgrace the role of a soldier. I did not want to become one because I felt that role has been disgraced too many times in each war that has ever been fought. Civilians who should have been left be were harmed by those meant to defend them. I am not going to like that. No matter the side, if a civilian is in danger, it is the duty of the soldier to protect them. I will fulfill that role, no matter what. I will protect you, with my life, if I must." He attatched what he was holding, after preparing it, onto the young woman's wrist. "This is a solar-powered energy shield. Once activated, it surrounds you with plasma particals which absorb lethal energies from weapons and spells alike. It also acts as a way to deflect physical objects that come right at you. Of course, you still need to be careful when it is on. This things run on solar energy, the kind of energy that is received from the invisible rays the sun every second of every day. As such, the device will need its batteries recharged each day we have clear skies. You blue panels you see on it are what enable it to regain solar energy. There is that, and if too much energy absorbed, or even too much force deflected from physical objects, will burn out the shield, making repairs necessary as soon as possible. The green button activates the device, while the red one turns it off so it can recharge its batteries through gathering solar energy."

Evangeline tried to ignore the urge to cry from panic. Her surroundings were foreign and pulsing before her eyes with strangeness. She wanted to return home, but as that creature in the book said, they were in a different realm. His realm.

The young man, Zechariah, promised to protect her, though she wasn't sure she agreed with his noble declaration at all. But, defending herself with a weapon didn't seem possible, or smart. Accepting the device he latched to her arm, she tried to understand all he explained about it, sun rays, buttons...Most of it flew over her head.

"O...k..." she managed to say, tucking some of her long hair behind her ears.

The book creature had mentioned a town, and she very much wanted to get there, to some sort of civilization. Still shivering with confusion as to how she was still alive, she pointed in the direction of the town to indicate that they should probably get moving. She hadn't given her name yet and wondered if she should spell it out for him. Finding a stick, she drew in the dirt.

E-V-...

A different red light distracted her, coming from the forest. Jumping up, she searched for anything to defend herself with, but only had the stick. Helplessly, she held it out in front of her, expression distraught. If this guy was going to defend her, it seemed like now was the opportunity to prove himself.

"O...k..." she managed to say, tucking some of her long hair behind her ears.

The poor woman was shivering. Of course, the jacket helped keep her warm, yet the Benjlakki soldier felt some sort of trauma was at work within her. This time, Zechariah knew for sure something happened to her. It all reinforced his decision to protect her. The moment she pointed in the direction they had to go wa when he nodded in confirmation that they were heading out. The soldier next took note of her trying to spell out her name, something that made it clear to him she nearly lost her voice.

E-V-...

A red light appeared before she could complete the spelling of her name, setting her into a state of panic. Whatever was in that forest had to be fought, of that Zechariah was certain. He prepared by removing the clip from his pistol and replacing it with a fresh one, since recharging clips took time. After that, the soldier put up his pistol while bringing out his assault rifle, cocking it while removing the safety.

"This won't be easy. We'll try finding an indirect route while we're in that forest, if my suspiscions are correct. I'm betting that Metargo pilot is in there, somehwere." Motioning for the woman to follow him, he ventured into the forest, in the direction the light came from. Surely enough, he heard gunfire, the kind he knew well. "Whatever is out there, he seems to have engaged it. If at all possible, we may have to avoid his battle. I don't know what he'll do if he spots us." He turned around and turned the solar-powered energy shield on so that the woman would be better protected. "If battle does break out, I'd rather you be safe." Surely enough, after a littel further, he sptted Aaron, fighting some sort of rider. "No use getting involved in that. We better try to find a way around that mess. Come."

He made sure she was still foloowing him while he trekked the forest, reminding himself of the general direction of the town. Along the way, penguins were pinpointed. "Something's not right. Those penguins, under normal circumstances, shouls be seen along coastlines, at least near the polar regions, where it's colder. Keep the shield on. I'm heading in for a closer look."

Of course, the moment a penguin saw him, combat began. Laser beams came out of the eyes of the birds, a clear sign these were not any regular penguins. Of course, gunfights were never easy. Evasion and cover were essential to surviving such battles. With his uncanny reflexes and dexterirty, this was not difficult for him, except he realized more than one life was at stake, at this point. He had to make good on his promise, no matter what. One pull of his assault rifle as he moved around, and two of the new hostiles were down, five more still out there. They were all focused on him, since he proved tougher to beat than other targets. He was swift, he was accurate, he was precise and strategic. All this added up to one difficult battle for both sides.

Another pull of the trigger, three more penguins defeated, four more to go. These were smarter than the others. They took cover as he did, copying his movements. They act like learning bots. Zechariah had to take them all out with one blow, at this point. To do that, needed more space to work with. Using a direct line of fire to keep the enemy at bay, the Benjlakki soldier lured the penguins to a more open space before throwing a grenade at them. The moment it landed, he knew he timed it perfectly. The hostile penguins were now no more. He swiftly came back to the woman's side, a soft grin on his face. "You alright?"

Ulela was riding around the forest heading towards a bright exit out of it. But she passed a man fighting, penguins? She was confused, yet ignored this and kept riding through the forest. She then sees the light of the exit getting bigger, until she finally exits the darkness of the forest. She then makes a deep breath as she looks around and sees a clear green plain. The sky is turning darker by the minute, might be dangerous staying out at night, thinks Ulela. She then starts squinting around the plain, until noticing a small village in the distance. A smile appears under her mask, unseen. The Drake then makes a loud roar and charges towards the village.

She nodded limply. The pudgy bird looking creatures had her at her wits end, but she tried to remain standing. She needed to. She couldn't be weak now and fall over and...

Stumbling into a tree, she held her stomach and gagged, feeling bile rising in her throat. Such a place smelled weird, looking dangerous, darkness closing in on them thicker and thicker. Collapsing onto her knees, she tried to calm down, breaths come sharper and deeper. Zechariah's question, if she was all right, was hardly needed. She wasn't all right. She was scared, and being scared wasn't normal.

It seemed to be happening a lot lately though.

Evangeline shakily stood up, glaring to the lines on the back on her hands, trying to push the memories down.

Her hand pointed again, in the direction of the town. For some reason she felt if they reached it, things would be better. Civilization. It had to be better.

Zechariah frowned at the sight of the woman's fear. He responded to her pointing at the town's direction with a nod. "Right. We'll get there." With the young woman, he walked the rest of the way to the village, Solara. It appeared a combination of magically and technogically advanced caliber, much like his home. "Well, we made it. Why don't we head in and find someplace to rest up and have a meal? I think it's time we turn the shield off." The soldier pressed the red button to turn the energy shield on the woman off before he walked with her into town.

It was a peaceful enough village. Small, but somewhat lively. Stalls everywhere were busy with lines while selling their wares. Music of several kinds played on the streets. Even the food seemed diverse. Zechariah spotted a stall right next to a platfrm of outdoor tables and motioned for the young woman to come with him to that place.

The moment he got to the stall with her, they were both given a glance and a warm smile from the stall's owner. "Two new adventurers, eh? I can tell by looking at the two of you. I'll bet you're fatigued from recent fighting. You are have the hints of such. Could I interest you in a couple parfaits and smoothies?"

Zechariah nodded. "Of course, what sorts do you have?"

"Well, for parfaits, we have an array of those with different kinds of berries in them, the most popular being the ones filled with strawberries and blueberries. The best-selling smoothie here happens to be Tropical Fruit flavored.

"We'll have what you recommended."

"Sure thing. Normally, this order would cost 12.8 Sestercdrach. But, with the Adventurer's Discount, you get 25% off, making it 9.6 Sestercdrach."

Zechariah searched through the blue book to see if the Dungeon Realm Currency (Sestercdrach) was provided inside. Surely enough, he found a pocket with an evelope. Inside was a stack of Sestercdrach bills, along with the discount the kiosk owner mentioned. He then payed for th refreshments, receiving change back while being handed the strawberry-blueberry parfaits and Tropical Fruit smoothies. He, with the woman, sat at a table, where he set a parfait and smoothie in front of her, along with a spoon and straw. "Here. I'm sure you are hungry and thirsty. The parfait and smoothie will actually help with the throat."

Aaron could not believe his new opponent got away without further fighting. "Who was that spellcastor, anyway?" He went back to where he first spotted the person, seeing the red book still in its place. He picked it up as he said, "Who would leave this way out here?"

Ulela was riding around the village on her Drake as a bunch of the residents stared at her with confusion. One village came up to Ulela and tapped her on the shoulder, scared. 'Umm, maybe you should leave that THING somewhere else sir..." Says the villager as he smiles in a scared manner. Ulela was offended by him calling Ulela a sir and whacked the villager with the Drake's tail. The villager laid on the ground, unconscious. The rest of the villagers stopped looking and got back to their business the moment she hit the other villager. Ulela looked around at all the stalls and saw two humans that looked more different then the rest of the residents. Ulela was interested by this and wanted to investigate. "Maybe they know what this place is!" thought Ulela.

The book in Aaron's hands then opens up and that mirror surface appears on a page. The Dungeon Master's face then appears once more. The same speech that was given to Zechariah was said to Aaron. Like a recorded message. He even tells him of the village up north through the forest.

Before he could get a response from the young woman, Zechariah heard large footsteps coming closer. He turned around from in the chair he was sitting on to notice the same rider from earlier. It was then he noticed the Drake's missing eye. "Your mount is missing an eye, there. Was that the Metargo soldier's doing? I fought him before your encounter with him, trying to convince him the war between the Benjlakki Republic and the Metargo Kingdom was over. He and I ended up in this realm, the Dungeon Master's Realm, via portal while we were still in a fight in the air. Once we shot each other's mech units down, we switched to gunfighting on foot. I didn't want to kill him, so I shot him in the hip instead of the chest, which forced him to flee into the forest."

----

Aaron could not believe it: a mad man controlling this whole planet. And, to make matters worse, it seemed the man enjoyed mesing with people. Once the image disappeared from the red book, the Metargo soldier pounded his fist to the ground in disgust and frustration. "Damn! That bastard better stay out of my way as I pursue that Benjlakki filth, or he'll be shot right between the eyes, first chance I get! Anyone who gets in the way is the enemy!"

Of course, he knew that he had to shoot the Benjlakki soldier, first. Besides, there was not much a chance of him confronting the Dungeon Master, given how clever he must be to control an entire world. Aaron proceeded north with those thoughts in mind, assault rifle in his hands.

Ulela looked back at Zechariah and listened to his explanation of where she was exactly. She was a bit surprised that her mount was missing an eye and held her staff up to it. The green energy beam seeps out of the tip of the wooden staff and starts filling the hole in the Drake's eye. The eye then starts to form back from the green energy, until it is complete. The eye is different though. It is green with a mint aura. Ulela then smiles at Zechariah under her mask. "Thank you for telling me this, I have been really confused. Do you have a good place where I can stay?" asks Ulela. Her voice is muffled and it is still unknown if she is a boy or a girl.

A loud laugh is heard through out the forest near Aaron. "Ha! get in your way? I have no intention but to WATCH you kill him! It will be interesting, I want to help. I have something that can help you..." says The Dungeon Master to Aaron as the voice echoes through out the forest. He is holding an odd game piece in his hands as he looks at Aaron's game piece on the game board. "...But you need to do a little 'test' for me" says The Dungeon Master. He then throws this odd game piece on to the game board. A red flash comes up and when the light is gone, a huge mech-suit is seen in the forest. It is not driven, yet is moving. It has many assortments of weapons and a jet-pack. It then starts stomping towards Aaron with a loud scary machine roar. A blue flash then appears and summons a bag of different robotic equipment in Aaron's hands. Now he must fight this mech, in order to control it.

Zechariah thought he made it perfectly clear he was not a local to the realm, but apparently not. "Nope. No residence at all. Like I said, I'm not from around here, and neither is this woman sitting at the table with me."

-----

Aaron raised an eyebrow when he heard the Dungeon Master's voice. What exactly did he mean by all of it? The answer came immediately when a new, well-equipped mech unit began marching its way towards him. Evasion proved difficult due to the kinds of weapons used against him. He had to capture it, but how? He thought on that as he continued to dodge, shot after shot.
