In battle, she normally isn't seen on the front, but instead sets up stage at a high elevation overlooking the fight. She acts as a support role and rallying call for those who can hear. Orianna is by no means a strong fighter, but that doesn't mean she doesn't know how to fight; though she would much rather try and talk things through instead of fighting. While she is not very helpful in terms of fighting and subduing an opponent through conventional means, she is at the very least aware of simple self defense maneuvers. However, her skills being as minimal as they are, if she were up against an experienced opponent, the only question is how long she can last before inevitably getting taken out; this doesn't stop her from regularly attending combat lessons in hopes of getting better though. Her weakness as a fighter doesn't seem to stop her from trying to be a shield when she can. Orianna is almost always willing to lay her life down for another comrade. At the very least, what she lacks in brute forth, she makes up in speed and stamina. After all, what kind of hero remains sidelined forever? Yet, despite all this, she understands that you can't save everyone if you're dead. And sometimes a sacrifice is necessary to further a cause. But if she has any say in the matter, she'd rather the sacrifice be here than anyone else.
Outside of battle, she's the kind of person who is oftentimes moving along at their own pace without paying much attention to those around her. Whether that be by skipping the classes that are of no interest to her to practice her singing on the roof, or even staying up late at night playing the guitar only to complain about waking up early the next morning. Though not very fond of academic enlightenment and learning about the history of the world, Orianna makes it a point to attend anything that involves training the body. She understands that she'll need strength to be a shield and the stamina to be a voice. She is the rallying call, but she too wants to at the very least be able to hold her ground; if she can't hit hard, she will at least be sturdy (though she's still working on that). However, if not kept on a strict leash, well... any other type of class in up in the air for her.
It's a mysterious wonder how Orianna became to be a huntress at all. Her family was against the idea as a whole, not wanting to help the humans who had, and sometimes still do, discriminate them for their faunus heritage, even after the events of the fall. But Orianna believed that one day they would come to an understanding. She was driven, she was determined, and she was doing her best to get by. At the end of the day, she would do her best to make even one person smile, or she would die trying.
However, the usage of her semblance also has some very apparent and glaring flaws. In order for her semblance to be effective, Orianna needs to maintain her song for long periods of time. If she should waver or stop singing at any point, then so to does the amplification she gives to her allies. If there is, for whatever reason, something obstructing her allies from the sound of her voice, then it will be impossible for her to project her aura onto them. Not to mention that if she were to, for some reason, lose her voice or be unable to sing, then her semblance is essentially useless.
Her weapon of choice is a guitar with some rather unconventional modifications to it, which she has named Powerchord. For all intents of purposes of the design, Powerchord functions exactly like a normal guitar would and can be played as such. However, it has been modified to be capable of storing dust crystals within it alongside being reinforced with lightweight metal allowing it be used as something akin to a club or shield. By pressing a button on the side of the instrument, Orianna is able to empower her strums with magical energy, condensing it, and then releasing it in the form of a projectile. For example, empowering Powerchord with a fire dust crystal allows her to launch a small blade of fire at her target, whilst ice dust crystals let her launch small icicles. However, the range for these is not very far and is often usable only at closer ranges.
Orianna first started showing her fondness for singing when she was 8 years old. Orianna was simply walking around the neighborhood when she met another faunus who had lived a few houses down, going by the name Lyre, as she was in her garden singing. Orianna was mesmerized by her voice, absolutely stupefied, and before she knew it she was practically right against the other faunus. That began her introduction to singing. It wasn't always an easy task, certain things were hard at first. Orianna had to develop a strong lung capacity to be able to sing longer, she had to build up stamina, train her voice. Lyre was a good teacher, but she didn't go easy on her, and Orianna wouldn't have had it any other way. Those days of practice turned into months, which turned into a few years. Never had Orianna found herself so devoted to something before that point. But now, she found something to enjoy.
Yet, like any tale, the happiness couldn't last forever. At 13 years of age, Orianna kept hearing more and more worry in the voices of the people around her. Stories of seafaring Grimm showing up more and more often, ships going to and from Menagerie sometimes never reaching their destination. The incidents kept growing and growing in number, which made the residents worried. And that worry attracted the Grimm. The first time a Grimm had appeared in town, no one was prepared for it.
A few died before residents could band together to take it down. Several people died in the place of one, tiny monster. Of course, that fear only started to attract more Grimm. And the people knew it. For the small area that Orianna lived in, even a single Grimm posed a humongous threat. The faunus people did all that they could do given the situation. They hid. In their homes, in their cellars, wherever they felt safe. But sometimes that wasn't even enough. Orianna could remember some days where she could hear panicked screams from the outside followed by the growls and snarls of something angry. And no matter how much she protested, her parents wouldn't do anything to help.
It didn't take long for people to get desperate, and with no hope of hunters coming over to their secluded lands, it only made them all the more restless. Some people started running, trying to leave the island. Orianna's parents were among these people. With belongings packed, and faces full of fear, they alongside many headed for the docks, Orianna pulled along, ready to try their lucks against any seaborn Grimm. All of that determination to take a risk was erased when screams filled the air. Grimm wading out of the water, attacking anything that stood in their way. Of course, panicked ensued. People scrambling for their lives, things getting knocked over, people trampled upon. Young children, like Orianna, ending up separated from their parents. Orianna, being so young and scared, tried her best to run. Dodging over the many discarded items and things strewn about. As she ran, her foot got caught on something and she fell to the ground. That something was a single guitar.
It was at this moment that Orianna's aura began to take form. It was... a simple thing. She wanted to help, she wanted to calm everyone down. And there was only one way she knew how. With the guitar in hand, she climbed her way up to the roof of a nearby house, and she sang. She sang as loud as she could, strummed the guitar as if her life depended on it. It was a terrible display to be honest, a young girl, practically bawling her eyes out, putting on a horrendous performance with an instrument she never held before. But despite all that, her voice held strong. It echoed through the air, overpowering the screams of fright and terror. Calling attention to herself from both the people and even the Grimm. And that was it, her first experience as a rallying call for the people. Thanks to her semblance, she was able to inspire some courage into the once scared faunus. And they fought. The didn't all survive, but they fought. They fought out of fear, out of courage, out of necessity,
all because of one girl.
This was the defining moment that made Orianna want to become a huntress. A few years later, she told her parents of her intention to become a hunter. It was not well received. While they acknowledged her potential, they refused to let her become a tool for the humans who had not even raised a hand to help them. They protested, but could not stop her. She left Menagerie. She left her family. And though she still sends gifts back every now and again, she hasn't been in contact with them since. Under the guise of a travelling musician, she made her way to Vale. Eventually enrolling at beacon academy, her next stage.
