a character in “Whispers in the Night”, as played by deadaray

Description

Image
Full Name: Tyler Michael Peirson
Age: 17
Gender: Male

Personality: Tyler is a happy-go-lucky farm boy. He's happy to help anyone who needs it, and loves his family more than anything else in the world. Tyler tends to trust too easily and forgive too quickly, but he hardly ever forgets things.

History: Tyler was born on a farm in a small town into a family of five. His parents raised him on the farm, teaching him to take care of the horses and work the fields. Growing up, his best friends were his older brother and his younger sister, along with other children in the town. Don't take his boyish smile and cowboy appearance to seriously though, he's actually extremely bright.

She could tell Kato was uneasy about her fragile bond with Dark, and walked a little closer to him once Dark was out of earshot. She put a hand on his shoulder and put her mouth right next to Kato's ear. "We're a team," she whispered so no one else could hear, "and Dark's never going to trust us if we don't put any trust in him." Haley looked right into Kato's eyes for a moment then backed up and smiled, "see you all tonight" she said. With that Haley ran straight for the woods. The job could wait, she needed to clear her head first. Once under the cover of the woods she snapped her wings out and took to the skies. The town was lovely from so high up. There was a little town square with some shops and houses, and a couple farms scattered around the outside. A farm would be a nice place to work.

She circled the town one more time before landing in the woods just outside the farm. A boy who looked no older than she did drove down the dirt road in am old beat up blue truck. He slowed down when he saw her walking along the edge of the woods and leaned out the window. "You headin' in to the farm? I could give you a ride if you want" He said, motioning for her to get in. The last thing Haley wanted was to get back in a car, especially with a complete stranger, but he might be the best way to get a job. "My names Tyler," the boy said as she climbed up into the passenger's seat, "I bet you're new here."

"Is it that obvious?" Haley said. The boy, Tyler, had a thick southern accent and long blonde hair. He turned down the country music on the radio and smiled.

"Well for starters, you don't have much of an accent." He said as one side of his mouth raised up into a half smile. "So what brings you to town Miss-"

"Haley, and I just let the wind carry me along." She said, partially serious. The only reason she had chosen this farm over the others in town was because the wind happened to be blowing in the right direction. Of course, she didn't expect him to take her seriously.

"Okay, okay, if you don't want to tell me you don't have to." He said. Everything was silent for a moment except the sound of the engine as Tyler looked her over. It wasn't that she didn't want to tell him why she was in town, she just really didn't have a reason. "So I'm guessing you want somewhere to stay, maybe make a little money while you're here?" he said.

How could he have possibly known that? she thought. Haley considered the possibility that he could read minds and had come from the lab as well, but it seemed unlikely. Actually, it was less than likely. "Well I mean, if you're offering..." Haley said.

Tyler pulled up next to the house and turned the car off. It was a huge picturesque farm house, complete with a big red barn and everything. "C'mon inside, I'll see what I can do for you." He smiled, hopping out of the car and walking around to the passenger side. He opened the door and held out a hand to help Haley out like a true gentleman. The inside of the house was exactly how Haley expected it to be, big rooms with family pictures and nice furniture and everything. "Ma?" Tyler called out as he took his work boots off, then looked back at Haley, "oh, do you mind taking your shoes off, my ma says it makes cleaning up the house way easier." Haley nodded and started taking her sneakers off as a little girl came running into the room and leaped into Tyler's arms. "Savannah!" Tyler smiled, picking the girl up and swinging her around once before putting her back down. "This is my new friend Haley, she's gonna stay here for a little while if it's okay with Mamma." The little girl smiled and grabbed Haley's hand, pulling her into the living room. Haley looked back at Tyler who smiled and nodded, "go on, she doesn't bite. I'm gonna go find my parents, I'll be right back." he said, and vanished up the stairs.

"I'm going to paint your nails, okay?" Savannah said running over to a closet and whipping open the doors. The girl was so little she had to stand on her tip toes to reach the closet door handles. Inside there were tons of barbie dolls and toy horses and makeup kits, everything a six year old little girl could possibly need to keep herself occupied. She rummaged through the closet for a few minutes before walking back over to Haley with a container of bright neon pink nail polish. She pushed the plate of freshly baked cookies off to the table grabbed Haley's hand. "Okay," Savannah said "now keep really still. Don't worry, I'm a professional." It was amazing how great of a resemblance there was between Savannah and Tyler, their blonde hair, their perfect smiles, everything.

"So," Haley started to say, but Savannah took a picked up a cookie and shoved it in her mouth.

"No, you need to sit still! Haven't you ever had your nails done before?" Savannah asked. Haley took a bite of the cookie and held it with her other hand.

Haley shook her head, "no, never."

The little girl looked shocked. "You're lying!" She said. Haley shook her head again. "Well don't worry, I'm better than a professional." Savannah painted Haley's nails pretty quickly, and was just putting on the final coat when Tyler walked back into the room. "Don't touch anything, okay Haley?" Savannah asked. Haley nodded and the little girl smiled then ran out of the room.

"Well," Tyler said with a smile, "I see you've won over my little sister." He walked over and picked up a cookie off the plate. "My mom says you're welcome to stay if you want, there's a room upstairs already made and everything, and she's perfectly happy to pay you a little something if you'll help me and my Pa with the farm work," he paused, "she wanted you to help out with cleaning and what not around the house, but I figured you would rather be outside in case the wind starts to blow again." He smiled that same half smile and took another cookie from the plate.

"Thank you," Haley said, "so, what do we do first?"

Tyler laughed, "hope you don't mind getting dirty." Haley smiled and shook her head. "Well then follow me pretty lady." He said in his thick southern accent. He put his work boots back on, and gave Haley a pair of his mother's to use. She followed him out to the stables, a huge red barn with two big doors that swung open to reveal thirteen horses each in their own stall. "Okay, we've got to muck all the stalls and brush all the horses down." He showed her how to do everything, and the pair made quick work of the job. They spent the rest of the day riding, he took her all around the farm on a beautiful brown horse named Trigger while he road a black horse named Midnight. When they finally got back to the house the sun was just starting to set and Tyler's mother was hanging out the door calling them in for supper.

"That was," Haley wasn't really sure what to say. She had never ridden a horse before and it was the most amazing experience, second to flying of course, that she had ever had in her life.

Tyler smiled, "I'm glad you liked it." They walked back up to the house talking and laughing about things that had happened in the day. Haley couldn't help but realize just how normal she felt. In all the excitement of the day, she had almost forgotten all about the lab and everything bad in her past. He opened the door for her, Tyler seemed to do that a lot, and they washed up for dinner.

Just as Haley and the family were sitting down for dinner, there was a knock at the door. "I'll get it," Haley said standing up. She was halfway to the door when she realized she was probably the single worst person to answer the door seeing as she didn't live here and knew absolutely nothing about the town or the house or this family. Thankfully Tyler was right behind her, laughing a little to himself. As he opened the door, Haley recognized the person on the other side immediately, Dark. Her hand flew to her mouth to stop her from saying anything. Tyler didn't notice. She would let him talk first, hoping he had a plan. If he wanted the family to know they knew each other he could, if not Haley wasn't about to ruin his plan.

"Remember what Kato said,"

Haley nodded slowly as Tyler turned back to look at her. Her plan had been to eat dinner with the family then write them a note and disappear out through the bedroom window after everyone had gone to bed. "You know him?" Tyler asked, bewilderment in his voice. "I thought you said you just got to town?"

The clanks of silver wearing hitting plates and happy conversation could be heard coming from the dining room. She was glad they had said grace before Dark had knocked, or the whole family would be waiting in the dining room and listening to the conversation at the door. "I," she started to say, but Tyler cut her off.

"Wait, who's Kato?" He asked. She the way Dark kept his hand on his knife as she realized he wouldn't even hesitate in killing everyone in the house. Tyler recognized the panic in her eyes before she could compose herself, "Haley, what's going on? Are you in some sort of trouble?" He stood tall in the doorway, like a wall between Dark and Haley. Sure he was strong, but Dark would have no trouble ripping him to shreds.

"Haley! Haley I want to show momma your pretty pink nails-" Savannah said as she ran up to Haley and grabbed her hand. The little girl stopped in her tracks, looking from Haley, to Tyler, and finally, to Dark.

"Savannah, go sit down." Tyler said protectively. The little girl looked up at Haley, who nodded, and then ran back into the dining room. "Now," Tyler said, looking back and forth between Haley and Dark, "somebody tell me what's going on."

Tyler just stared at Dark, dumbfounded. He turned to Haley, but found no comfort in her expression. "You're... serious?" He asked, the color draining from his face. "Haley, I-" he started to say, but she nodded.

"I know." She said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have come here." He started to protest, like he still wanted to protect her, but he had his family to worry about and she completely understood.

Savannah poked her head around the corner, "you're leaving?" She ran over and gave Haley a big hug, "don't take it off, okay?" She said, grabbing Haley's hand and running her tiny one over Haley's nails.

She started to walk towards the door, but he stepped back in front of her, arms outstretched. She stepped into them and they closed around her. "Stay safe, okay?" He said, pulling her in a little tighter. She felt his hands on her wings, but he didn't say anything so neither did she. After a moment his arms fell and he took a step back. It was weird, she had only been here a day, and didn't really think this family cared about her all this much.

"Say thank you to your family for me." She said. Haley walked out the door without looking back. She cared about these people too. "So," she said once they were out of earshot of Tyler and Savannah, "back to Kato?" She assumed they were still watching her and Dark walk away since she never heard the door close, but didn't want to look back. She wanted to ask how Dark knew where she wound up, or why he had shown up like that as well, but it seemed like a conversation to have later.

((should we all make the people we met on our little excursions their own characters (like Tyler or Savannah), and will they all get taken?))
