Description

Pierce Hayes

Image

ImageAge:This high school Junior has reached his seventeenth year of life.

Orientation:Both boys and girls have stories about their intimate moments with the bassist. Tales of staying up all night and the back seat of his old Audi 5000 litter the school's gossip, his track record of never entering an official relationship only adds to the chatter. No one knows which sex he prefers, as he'll never bothering answering the question.

Appearance: Long limbs, pale skin and cigarette burns. The boy's face conforms to angular features; defined cheekbones, a sharp chin, pointed nose and thin lips. Underneath straight shaped eyebrows rests deep-set eyes, their irises colored bright and strikingly blue. His forehead is covered by a mess of natural black hair, which is full and easily disheveled but not unruly. Pierce reaches heights of 6'0" with his scuffed pair of Dr.Martens on and loses an inch in height without. His body doesn't bear washboard abs, but it is toned with lean muscle. His posture is very relaxed and the laid back look is pulled together with a variety of simple, cheap jackets, T-shirts and jeans.

Personality: At first glance, Pierce appears to be someone stuck in his own world. He doesn't surround himself with a large social group or feel the need to travel in a pack. It's common to find him consumed in his own thing; be it absorbed in a book or alone with a Marlboro cigarette between his lips. The individual is not aloof or cold, nor is he a loner. He spends much of his time with the other members of his band, them being the only constant relationships he seems to be able to hold up. He easily lets people slip into his life, but doesn't let them stay for long, giving him a list of companions that have stayed with him only for weeks at a time. In a relaxed atmosphere he becomes laid-back and friendly, but in a pressurized one he turns erratic and irritable.

His surroundings and the people in it directly affect his mood, which can go from passive to aggressive in a matter of seconds. By default he portrays a carefree and laid-back type of character, even being regarded as friendly and helpful. He'll approach people and can be easy to talk to, given that he's talking to someone who doesn't clash with him. He'll be spontaneous and fun-loving in the right setting, but can be the very opposite. When he is in a more hostile environment his attitude will match; transforming into something bitter and scathing. Above everything, he hates it when people freak out on him. He hates being shown pity by people, especially those he hardly knows. It is very rare for him to let himself be vulnerable, but he can show both compassion and concern towards other people regularly.

Time doesn't move normally in his perspective, the world around him swerves by too fast for his abstract mind. A day becomes a week, a week a month, but the distinction between a month and a year is blurred and watered down. It's this that brings out the chaos in him, vanishing for days at a time is normal for him, not contacting someone for months only to show back up in their life is another common action. He's far from conventional and likes to experience what life has to offer first hand. He doesn't want to read about mountains or oceans, but see them with his own eyes and touch it with his fingers. Trance like and dreamy, the boy prefers sights of city lights, a bright night sky and fires that eat away at buildings.

Pierce doesn't show concern for the expectations of others and lacks ambition. He is unable to wrap his mind around the conventions of their society and chooses to blatantly ignore it instead. The only reason why he goes to school at all is to give himself something to do, along with food to eat. He may seem to live freely, but in all reality he's only running away. Refusing to face the problems in his life or sort out his own issues he makes a subconscious effort to push away all his internal and external conflicts. His behavior is erratic because it gives him a sense of control and freedom, filling his life with irregular events to keep him away from home and his own thoughts. This is also why he doesn't often let people stay in his life long, because once they start to manifest themselves they attempt to force him to face everything he's trying to avoid.

There are a few things that he really applies himself to, with one being his music. Through song he gets a sense of being able to connect with people and express himself. He has formed bonds with the others in the band through them sharing the same feeling, and does his part to look out after them as they do for him. The other thing he doesn't back down from is the school's Daring Game, this being because of his refusal to let people think they can get the better of him and a deep dislike for bullying. Since he doesn't have much to lose the dares that he is given hardly ever phase him.

He speaks with brutal honestly. He doesn't hide the truth under a tangle of lies; instead he will simply not answer or change the subject if he wishes to avoid speaking of something. The only thing that comes off as insincere is his apologies. Pierce finds it hard for him to apologize for his actions, even when he knows that they're unfair. He's too used to doing what he pleases and expecting people to either leave or go along with it. Like everything, saying sorry is something he avoids, since he can never seem to get it right.

Background:Once upon a time there was a princess, except she wasn't a princess at all, she was a high class girl with severe depression. Her name is Naomi, with her long hair, thin figure and social status she caught the eyes of several suitors, but alas! She had a taste for self-punishment. The woman fell in love with a man who worked at a factory and smoked a pack a day. The two fought and never seemed to get along, yet at eighteen they had a baby, and Naomi's family dropped her quicker than a rock. They got married soon after, and their lives disappeared down the drain. Jack could never hold up a job; being a violent and an angry alcoholic made it difficult for him to stay employed. The man took it out on his lovely wife, and she tucked herself deep within her shell. Not even when her son was born did she feel any joy, nor did she by the second or third child of hers. Their house is far from a home, full of three young children and their mother, who was often the subject of their fathers anger.

Pierce has been stuck with a broken family for his entire life. They live in a small house that has a garage door that doesn't work, a porch with holes in it and a roof that desperately needs to be re-shingled. Inside the house it smells like cigarettes, but is oddly quite tidy. His mother doesn't talk much at all, the middle aged woman is unemployed and sleeps through most of the day. Their father works at a factory and spends most of his free time at the bar, or drinking a beer on the couch in front of the television. His younger siblings are rarely home as well, both the thirteen year old Angela and nine year old Benjamin often are found at their friend's houses instead. Their elder brother is the one with the biggest absence, with him hardly ever coming home at all. There's a better chance at finding him at the home of one of his band mates or even sleeping in his car, bought at a discount during his sixteenth year. The noise of the television is often the only one in the house, but during their fathers fouler moods the air fills with the sounds of shouting and shattered porcelain. Lucky for them, the man hardly raised a hand against them, usually taking violence upon objects rather than people.

For most of his younger years he simply blended into the background, the kid that sat in the back and was pretty good at kickball. His reputation changed during his freshmen year at Harlow High. He was picked out by a group of seniors quickly, given challenge after challenge, which he completed with what appeared to be ease. Nothing seemed to phase him; brushing a hand against a teachers ass, stealing test answers, even setting a fire at a local supermarket wasn't too far for him. The more he did, the more his name spread around the school, until he won their little game. Since then Pierce joined a band, thanks to his talent on bass guitar from many days spent practicing one he had rescued from his uncle's basement. His popularity never decreased, and he remains somewhat of a legend at the school. Even now he is pulled into playing the dare game every once and awhile because of others believing they can best him, but he always draws a good hand. While there are people who are down right envious of him, there are just as many wanting to see him fall.

During this point in time Pierce spends most of his time with the band, 'Killing Karma', who often plays for parties and local bars. His relationship with his siblings is strained, and the one with his parents is practically nonexistent. He avoids his home as much as possible, even deciding to attend school regularly to distance himself from it. As far as the student body knows, he has never officially made anyone his girlfriend, or boyfriend. People have spent time with him though, time that was often short lived. People describe him as being chaotic with no sense of time. The boy would take them to underground clubs, or have them stand with him at the edge of an abandoned building. He'd never pick up his cell, yet show up at their house at three in the morning with a proposition to go to a 24 hour restaurant. If he wasn't the one to cut off the relationship, they would end it just as quickly. Between his irregular behavior and habit of disappearing for days at a time there are few that can handle the lifestyle he leads.

Likes: Over everything, Pierce loves music. He loves listening to music and making music, the boys car is filled with old tapes and CDs that have been played too many times to count. The boy also has a liking for cigarettes, the nicotine and smoke seem to sooth him, the smell often lingers on his clothing. Pierce also finds joy broken things and seeks them out; often finding himself on the roofs of abandoned buildings. In addition he also is fond of preforming, fast food, his car and good company.

Dislikes: He abhors the type of person to target the weak; bullies, abusive partners and others that use fear and violence to control others put a bad taste in his mouth. Pierce also has a dislike for people that act as if they understand everything, especially those that speak as if they know him so well. He hates faux concern and false kindness from others, giving him the general enmity for liars and arrogance. Along with these he's not fond of; vegetables, sports channels, PBR and mechanical pencils.

So begins...

The games were already underway. Seniors stood in small groups, already starting the dares of the day to the freshmen they had picked out, much like a hungry predators. It was all so barbaric, school kids really had nothing better to do than rip each other to shreds. It was more than satisfying to see the upperclassmen lose and fall from their pedestals; the drop in their popularity and the humiliation that came their way was like candy.

"Pierce, snap out of it." The black haired junior looked over to a girl with short blonde hair, someone he actually considered a friend of his. She was dressed nicely, as always, wearing what the school considered to be their uniform of sorts. Dark blazer, skirt, white shirt, tie, and so on. "Don't get off to a bad start this year." Candy warned. "My sister was lenient, but I will kick you out of the band if you get bad grades, mark my words." Pierce smiled and nodded. Her sister, Carly, was wildly different, but they were both good at leading the band. He had no worries, even if their previous leader was out studying in France.

"Don't worry about it." He told her, glancing over to a group of not just freshmen, but new freshmen. "Worry about them. Johnson and Brown are already blood thirsty this year, they're going to be in a world of trouble once their little game progresses." The girl sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "The new kids will live, stop being such a bleeding heart." Pierce made a face at the comment. "Instead, learn how to dress properly." Candy tugged at the end of his jacket, colored dark purple and marked with a few scuffs and stains from use over the year. He wore it over the white dress shirt most of the older students dressed in, paired that with dark jeans and his trademark Dr.Martens. She attempted to smooth some of his hair down but he only swerved away, causing her to jab him in the ribs. "You look like you're apart of a crappy high school band."

The boy smiled and turned the other way, following her towards their first class. "You would know best."

Speaking of Johnson and Brown, the two famous students had just arrived at the school, eying the younger teenagers like a pair of wild animals.

The black haired girl held a dangerous smile on her lips, with the boy in dreadlocks expressing something more indifferent despite his nature. After a quick exchange of words, they approached the group of new kids, one of them standing at either side the group, as if to keep them from running away. Were these students, or velocirapors? This was some serious Jurassic Park shit. "Hello." Renee spoke, laying a gentle hand on a green haired student momentarily before returning it to her side. "I'm sure you know of the customs of this school. Oh, but I shouldn't assume. Richard, would you do the honors?"

The dark skinned boy rolled his eyes, but spoke regardless. "Listen here, we have a very strict system here. It's survival of the fittest, you're not going to get anywhere on money, or looks," He said, poking Nicki's cheeks as he emphasized the point. "alone. We play a game here, If you're nothing more than a coward that refuses to play you're going to stay right here at the bottom." Richard smirked. "Though, I wouldn't mind it, I can always use some more pocket money."

Renee smiled sweetly, but her words were sharp and challenging. "We'll see you kids during lunch break, that's when we'll start. You have time to prepare your mental state until then." She told them, moving to stand next to her current partner despite the obvious tension between the two."Don't you dare think about avoiding us. Got it?" He threaten, his expression looking even more dangerous by the minute.

((Oh and by the way, I linked to pictures for the NPCs i'll be using mostly, in the Character info thread, if anyone is curious as to what these people look like.))

Pierce was never good with science, or really, any school subject for that matter. The only reason why he managed to pass classes at all was from the help of his friends and sheer luck. Formulas and essays just didn't interest him, they halted his thought process and every assignment seemed to gruel on for hours if he ever decided to take it seriously. That's why when his chemistry teacher asked him to fetch a video from the biology teacher for her, he volunteered and choose to ignore the look Candy sent him.

"Ge 'em girls." He looked down the hallway to his right, noticing a scene play out before him. It was Renee and her lackeys again. Julia McClair looked exceptionally hostile today, it must be because of the recent drama that surrendered her family. Really, it would have been so much easier for the junior to just ignore this and go on his way, but he hated bullying. Despised it, even. So instead of walking away he approached the group, the sound of his footsteps making the leader look towards him and narrow her eyes. Great, there goes a potentially quiet year.

"Emotional terrorism this early in the morning? Really, and here I thought you were better than that, Johnson." Pierce spoke, stopping only a few paces in front of Renee, but he only kept his eyes on her. A smirk graced her face and she let go of the boy she had in her clutches, and her little rag-tag gang paused in their actions as well.

The blacked haired girl walked forward and brushed invisible dust off of Pierce's jacket. Her fingers lingered and she giggled, her tone mocking. "Don't you have some food stamps to pick up?" She smiled sweetly. "Or did your father spend them all on beer again?" His face didn't change from it's indifferent expression and he spoke without missing a beat. "I'm more interested in your life. What did you test come back as, positive?"

Renee laughed and attempted to pat him on the cheek, but after the first contact he moved away. "Cute." She backed off and glanced back to her clique and the new kids, irritation flashing in her eyes. "I was just going to show the girls our new additions. I'm not going to hurt them. You understand me, right?" The group of girls smiled and moved closer to new kids, circling them once again. Their ring leader looked back at Pierce after wrapping her arm around the blue haired kid's shoulder, as if to show off what power she really did have in the school. "It's just a little show and tell, Hayes."

Jamie watched this new character come in and as he walked down the hall, he some how hoped the kid would save him, and it just so happened he did. The kid stood up to the girl and as they talked, Jamie kept a mental record of everything. He might need it for later, or even to make sure he's dealing with the right people. First impressions are everything. Now when Jamie heard about the food stamps, he got a little concerned. He wasn't a big fan of people who didn't get the same opportunities as everyone else because of their home problems...

Jamie's face turned bright red as he noticed the girl wrap her arm around him. Her chest rubbed against his arm, making him feel so uncomfortable. Girls... girls always made him uncomfortable. Her chest rubbed against his arm... rubbing... he began to feel a bit light headed and really hot. He tried to push her away, murmuring, "Ah... please.... let me go."

The girl held him tighter, and actually put her lips to his ear and licked his ear. The girl's soft lips made his knees go weak and he was almost ready to pass out. "You are just about the cutest thing." The girl whispered.
"No.... let me go...." Jamie moaned. He needed to get out. He was going to pass out soon enough.

The black haired boy rolled his eyes, Johnson always liked to take things as far as she could and it was an absolutely nauseating display. It was clear as day that she wanted him to take the bait, react aggressively, lose his cool in any way. Boy did she like to see people squirm. Instead of doing what she wanted, Pierce pulled out his janky flip phone. The piece of technology was scuffed and had a piece of duct tape holding the back on. Really it was pretty amazing that it was still functional.

He quickly brought up the camera feature and snapped a picture of the scene in front of him. An older student making unwanted advances on a boy that couldn't be older than fifteen, or as he would call it; black mail. "Now it's sexual harassment. Very classy." His tone starting to come off as biting, not being able to completely hold himself back. "Seriously, piss off." Renee pouted, but released the victim, knowing when she was beat. "Oh, anger. I like it." She commented and looked over to her group and gestured for them to back off with a swift jerk of her head. "That high and mighty attitude of yours is annoying. I'm going to destroy you, and the fresh meat too." Her mouth twitched into a smile again. It was obvious that she wasn't giving them empty threats, she was going to do everything in her power to make the school year be a living Hell.

"Okay Maleficent." He pocketed the phone, maybe that photo might come in handy later. He was really just happy that it made Renee back down, as he hadn't planned on actually doing anything with the evidence if she choose not to. "You have a good time in drama class now." She scoffed but went on her way regardless, soon disappearing down the hall with her posse at her heels.

Senior year couldn't come soon enough, the day when he walks into this school without people like her around seemed too far off. Though, they'd probably just be replaced with a whole new group of similar, megalomaniac students. Pierce ran a hand through his hair before returning it to his side, out of all the places in the world he just had to end up here. Well, that's life for ya'. He looked back over to the group the seniors had targeted, who looked mostly okay except for the one Renee had clung to. "Are you okay?" He asked, somewhat concerned. Was this kid going to pass out on them? Hopefully not, the guy didn't need seniors targeting him any more by being known as the boy who fainted on his first day.

Jamie tensed as the boy took a picture of the scene. Was he going to put it up on the internet? That would be really bad for him... it would mean that Jamie was an easy target. Today was not a good day. This was going to be worse than his old school. He couldn't go through with this... but he didn't want to tell his mother. When the girl let go, a feeling of relief swept through Jamie. This kid was his hero. And as the kid came up to him, Jamie couldn't help but wrap his small arm around him and thank him. "Thank you...."

Jamie let go and stepped back. He smiled weakly at the kid and looked back at Nicki, who looked worried for being late to our first class. Jamie said thank you again and then asked him, "Where's the biology room?" He needed to know. They needed to know. Jamie didn't want to get lost. Nope. Not with the chance of running into another senior.

Alyssa Novak

Alyssa cursed under her breath as she hurried to where she'd planned to be about twenty minutes ago. Her shoes clacked along as she went, but she never rushed. She was the kind of person who took her time somewhat, and never looked to be in a hurry. As she reached the door, she stopped, running her hands over her hair fixing it into place, and straightened out her outfit, pulling her shorts down a bit, and adjusting her shirt. She sighed, and moved out of the way of a few freshmen leaving. She bit her bottom lip, feeling a bit guilty for being so late. She rubbed the gloss off of her lips by accident while doing this, but she ignored it and moved forward. She opened the door fully, making her way inside.

A few freshmen remained, seniors, and a a junior or two. She didn't really know. Two of the freshman were near a black haired boy, and they were talking about some class or finding their way around. He seemed helpful enough. She walked up to him, and smiled at him a little. "Hi.." She started, "I'm Alyssa," she paused, debating what to say. "Novak, I sorta came late.. Which I'm terribly sorry for.." she apologized. She held her bag over her shoulder, and pressed her nail into the strap of it, waiting for him to reply.

His body had tensed over the boy's casual touch. It wasn't that Pierce wasn't used to physical contact, it was just that he wasn't exactly expecting it from the guy, he hadn't really seemed to enjoy it earlier. Then again, having a stranger all over yourself couldn't be that comfortable to begin with. The touch was brief though, and the previous anger he felt was starting to melt away, being replaced by his usual calm. "No problem." He said. "Johnson's a real pain." She always had been, even when he had first met her when she was a sophomore. Even then she was wiggling her way into the lives of those around her, already taking part of cruel games with those much older than her. She really didn't know when to back off.

The older boy was beginning to feel awkward, this social contact wasn't supposed to last so long, he had planned it to be quick but it was dragging on anyways. School wasn't exactly his ideal place to do some socializing, the environment was all wrong. The entire building bothered him, it was lined with rules and expectations that didn't sit well with him. He largely prefers contact outside of the building's white, brick walls. "I'm headed that anyway, so I can show you guys where it is." His chemistry teacher was going to be mighty pissed off that he was taking so long, but she'd get over it. After all, he was Pierce Hayes, what did she expect? He wasn't exactly known for his speedy deliveries.

Just when he was about to turn around another person had approached him, someone that was clearly around his age but she was also someone he didn't really recognize. Perhaps she managed to duck under the radar all these years? Though, he quickly looked over her outfit, she certainly didn't seem like the quiet type that people overlooked. She sent him a smile and introduced herself, talking on afterwards. Did he look like a teacher or something? "Pierce Hayes." He might as well be polite and give out his name, at least act like a normal human being. The boy stared at her for a moment, his blue eyes not once leaving her face, as if trying to place something. "So," He started, rubbing the back of his neck and completely unaware of what she wanted him to say. "Did you need something?"

#, as written by S1mon
"Then we should get to class before we are late", Jamie stated before walking away to presumably get to class. He didn't seem to look like he didn't know, and looked confident, so Sven followed until a group of girls surrounded Jamie, before the leader of the girls then sent the other girls towards him and Nicki, "Ge'em girls". Thought she had said we have till lunch, and now potentially miss their first class if they were not careful. Not to mention being boxed in by a load of girls who were not around you for you, but simply to mither you....it certainly was not in Sven's plans. Least he wasn't on his own as he had Nicki beside him. He felt more sorry for Jamie until a black haired boy approached them and stopped them. Sven took a breath of relief.

They were saved!......or not as they left them, "That high and mighty attitude of yours is annoying. I'm going to destroy you, and the fresh meat too". Ohhhh dear. Brother will be pleased that he got himself in trouble already. Just his luck. Maybe he could tell them he was Devin's brother and therefore to leave him alone, but he couldn't, he'd just not live easily at home. Why won't things work out for him, as he then frowned again. Not only that, but then the bell went and he heard Nicki curse, before he heard Jamie ask "Where's the biology room?", as Nicki revealed a map. At least someone knew where they were going. However, he really didn't feel like having another barricade of seniors.

His frown then returned to a smile as the guy who the girl called "Hayes" offered to show them where it was, meaning, they didn't have to worry about no seniors blocking them again. However, he got the feeling from what the girl said, that his helping had dragged him into it, and the last thing Sven liked to be was trouble for others, which caused him to sigh again. Sometimes, he was just too good for his own good, as he then briefly looked up as a girl came to them...well rather Hayes, introducing herself in which the Hayes guy responded with his name, Pierce, followed by Nicki introducing herself to Alyssa.

"I'm Sven", deciding not to go with the surname introduction which would link him to Devin, but yet brought forth a warm smile nonetheleast. Afterall, they would of been in a worser position if it weren't for Pierce's help, but the words that "Johnson" had said still kept bothering him, and he couldn't help it. So to get the feeling off his mind, he then spoke his mind, as he turned to Pierce, "Thank you for helping us", with a smile which then begun to fade, "I hope we weren't much trouble...I hate to be a bother.....but your going to be alright though, aren't you? as she said you too", with his head down feeling all guilty. Maybe if he had walked in another direction, he may of avoided it all, and Nicki would of been out of danger too, and possibly in class right now.

Sven then looked up again, "Are they really allowed to do all this stuff?", glancing at Nicki and then his watch, "and can we walk and talk....first impressions and all....not that we haven't done a great job at that already", as one corner of his mouth tugged at his own comment....

"I hope we weren't much trouble...I hate to be a bother.....but your going to be alright though, aren't you? as she said you too." The hand that had been on the back of his neck found itself being dug back in the pocket of his jacket. There was no denying that because of his actions that he was going to get shit from the older students, but that wasn't really a problem to him. He had made his own choices, so he would suffer the consequences, it was better than being another bystander. "It's fine, they would have came after me soon or later." Pierce shrugged, that was true, it was never long before some senior decided to try and outwit him somehow to gain popularity by 'defeating Pierce Hayes'.

On the other hand, he doubted that Renee herself would've target him so quickly if he had just stayed out of it. "Are they really allowed to do all this stuff?" The group started walking towards the biology room, forming somewhat of a protective pack. This school was starting to seem too much like the African savanna to him. "No, but the teachers don't notice, or care for that matter." He told the boy that had an interesting shade of green for his hair, which he now knew was named Sven. An unique name for a unique boy. "Besides, they can't really do anything about it." As soon as both parties became involved you didn't want the adults to notice, lest everyone gets punished because of the behavior.

Once inside the classroom Pierce walked over to the man teaching the class, who sent the student an exasperated look. They weren't really on bad terms, but Pierce had given the man a bit of trouble the year he was in the class; he used to be quite the smart ass, and at times he still was. The junior retrieved the video and didn't waste time sticking around, soon making his way out of the classroom. Though before he left he sent the younger students he had met a lazy wave. This could either be described as a good thing, given his reputation around the school, or a bad thing, like a parent embarrassing you in front of all your classmates. Pierce however didn't really care which way it was taken as he didn't stop to think about it.

The boy closed the door behind them, leaving the class to resume their studies, and continued to go on his way down the hallways. They were probably going to be excused for being late, seeing as freshmen, not to mention new kids, got lost quite easily. Plus, the man that was teaching the class, Mr.Gordon, would probably assume that it was Pierce's fault that they were late in the first place. Holding the video, he headed towards his own class room. If he was lucky, the chemistry teacher wouldn't be so angry with him.

Jamie scurried to the back of the room and sat in an empty seat in the very last row. He hated the front... He felt like it was too much attention. Yuk. He looked up at Pierce as he just stood there. When he gave a small wave, it made Jamie smile a bit. He waved in reply, hoping that maybe theyd see eachother again. Hopefully... Jamie liked him. He was nice enough. An interesting character he was. When yhe kid left, Jamie sighed and turned his attention to the teacher, who was clearly not happy with the groupnof kids walking in late.

Alyssa stared right back at the boy's unflinching profile. Pierce. His name, she spelled it out in her head, which always made her remember names for some reason. She didn't think it'd be very hard to forget his name though, ironically his piercing blue eyes would probably remind her. He looked at her as if he were trying to recall something or someone, maybe her, though she knew she hadn't seen him much before. Maybe once or twice. She was new to the school towards the end of last year, and though she was quite a social butterfly, she hadn't met everyone.

She glanced over at the girl who then spoke, saying her name as well. She sounded friendly enough, but Alyssa could sense the fakeness of her smile, whether she just didn't like Alyssa or something else was causing it. The girl was pretty enough, but she looked younger, probably a freshman. Then another somewhat young boy introduced himself as well. Nikki and Sven.. She smiled at the two, and turned her attention back to Pierce as he said, "So, did you need something?"

She thought for a moment. No, she didn't really need anything.. She didn't even really know why she'd apologized for being late. She decided she was probably apologizing in general, just mentioning or making a note that she didn't like to be late. Adjusting her bag on her shoulder, she leaned more on her right foot, and brushed her blonde bangs out of her face. She looked away from the boy, staring at the ground. Her eyes found their way back to his, and she shrugged a bit. "No not exactly.." she answered. A smile spread across her lips, "Well I guess I should be getting to class.. Nice meeting you I suppose," she said to him. Backing up a bit towards the door again, she looked to the freshmen, "Maybe I'll see you all around."

Exiting, she made her way to her first class, English.

"It's fine, they would have came after me soon or later", was Pierce's reply, as he wondered if he would of been better of if he had not intervened, though it seemed it made no difference. Pierce was not even a freshman, couldn't be, especially since he had a responsibility to get the food stamps for a teacher, and no freshman would do that when they are just starting and are occupied with making sure their work is done, and that they make the right first impression, which so far for him, he wished he could change.

Then again, it seemed the whole affair that takes place was something that occurred all the time, and could not change whatever they did, "No, but the teachers don't notice, or care for that matter.....Besides, they can't really do anything about it". It was true, and if they were those like Johnson who seemed to enjoy it, if teachers were involved and they were punished, then it'll just make it worse, wouldn't it? Sven sighed, seems all he had to do was just do what was expected of him and do his best, yet it still didn't seem yet. Then again, if he could show these seniors whose boss like what Pierce was doing, which annoyed Johnson, then maybe they'd leave him alone. Besides, it was only their first year...maybe next year would be smoother. Though that's probably what Pierce thought aswell.

At least, they had now reached biology as they said bye to Alyssa, as Nicki apologised on their behalf, "Sorry we're late" as she moved to the back in one of the two empty desks there, followed by Jamie to no doubt take the remaining empty desk at the back, which left him alone once Pierce had left. With all eyes on him, he turned slightly so his eyes were on the lecturer whose eyes looked back, "You must be...Sven Amilio, I presume? You can take Ruby's seat since she's not in today. We'll get you fixed up, but you'll need to make sure you do the work to catch up. Understood?", before returning to his lecture notes, to begin again once Sven sat down.

Sven eyes closed as soon as he said "Amilio", but to confirm what he said, he nodded. Now the link between those who knew Devin, and him, would be established. It was the last thing he wanted, and now like many brothers, they'd be compared with by their elder sibling. For him, Devin wasn't one that worked, and then the professor remarked about catching up on work. He was not Devin! Nevertheless, he took the seat of the desk he had pointed out at, collapsing onto the chair and pulling his bag down before grabbing his stuff.

Out the corner of his eyes, he saw something flash, before a laggy-band was in his sights. With his books and papaer and pens on the desk, he then picked up the laggy band, glanced above him and around him with the odd smile there and then to be friendly. The question was, what was the laggy band for, except for holding stuff, so he decided to assume it was a gift, stretching it and placing around his books, though when he did so, he noticed some ink. Curious, he brought the books near him to read, while his right hand wrote the date on his paper and begun writing the work in note form, before using his fingers on his left hand to widen a bit more, where he saw a note.

The message read, "Hey new kid! the name's Sherry :) Just wanted to know if it's okay to get your picture during lunch. It's for yearbook club". Though he didn't mind having a photoshoot, he was still worried about lunch itself. The question was, who was Sherry? so to remedy that, he simply laid both hands on the table with thumbs up incase whoever Sherry was, was watching him, before he returned to his original sitting posture after a few seconds had passed to return to work, seeing that he now had Devin's bad working example to override.....

((I believe a time skip is appropriate now, so here we go.))

As soon as Pierce left his last class before lunch he stretched, yawning as he did so. The words of teaches molded together into nonsense, it all seemed like a blur which resulted in making him feel tired and lethargic. He walked down the hall and towards the cafeteria, but he wouldn't have to wait in line. Micheal had promised to buy him lunch today because apparently he owed him. Though, the bassist wasn't exactly sure what Mike owed him, but he wasn't about to complain or reject the gesture.

He slunk down to their usual spot in the hallway, not too far from the mess hall itself. Only a few other groups sat on the floor or the corridor while they ate and socialized, usually they were people that for the most part was under the radar, or were outcasts. There was a group of occultists that sat not too far from, and they were cool since they would lend him cigarettes sometimes. There was also a group of sophomores that spent their lunch time either reading or talking about television shows, they weren't much different than the occultists in that respect, and were fine for the most part.

Ashlin soon took the spot to his right, as always. "What's cookin', good lookin'?" She grinned and nudged him with her elbow, holding only a coffee, her preferred meal, beverage, everything. He sent the dark skinned woman a deadpan expression before answering. "Crystal meth." That made her laugh, and spill her coffee, which was followed by her yelping and elbowing him again. They exchanged a few more words, mostly about the next gig they were trying to land, which is why Candy wasn't present with them at the moment, and their chatter slowed when Micheal came and passed a tray to Pierce. Pizza, an apple and a carton of milk. Classic, unhealthy school lunch, not that the black haired boy minded.

He was actually a bit worried about those freshmen from earlier, the first year at Harlow wasn't easy, and now that they had caught the eye of the big dogs then they were in some trouble. They better be ready to start playing hard ball, because Renee never played around, neither did Richard or any of those types. Since they already had their eye on him, it wouldn't hurt to look out for them, even just a little bit. Stay alert, try and prevent anything terrible from happening. The school wasn't a stranger to students transferring because of the dares, there even was a freshmen last year that tried to off himself because of it. Thankfully they lived, and attended a different school. The situation could get way out of hand, and he'd rather not hear about another suicide attempt because of a childish game.

Alyssa tried to focus during English. She sat in the back row, towards the middle, and tried to keep herself attentive. It was early in the morning, especially if you were a person who preferred to sleep in. Their teacher lectured about literature, and the book they were reading. She hadn't even actually read it, maybe glanced at a few pages, and went over the rest on free note websites. She wasn't a bad writer, and the class was somewhat easy for her. That is, when she did her work. She was pretty much a straight B student in any class like this. Electives were even easier because they were something she really enjoyed.

Either way, she was relieved when the bell rang, and gratefully left the class. She walked to her locker, where she threw her bag and took out a water bottle. Turning to her left, she saw her friend approaching, and she smiled. "Alyssssaaaaaa" Beth said, and hugged her. Alyssa hugged her back, "Bethhhh" she answered. They laughed, shutting the locker and heading over to the lunch area. As they walked, two of Beth's friends joined them. Isabell and Bridget, girls that Alyssa didn't exactly enjoy.

It wasn't that they had ever done anything to her, that she knew of, of course. But they were the type of gossiping girls that she didn't really like. They kind that seemed to talk about everyone behind their back, about the dumbest things that probably didn't even happen. They weren't even very popular, but they seemed to start a lot of rumors. To her, they always seemed nice.. Sort of. Nice in a way that it seemed fake, and they always acted as if they were better than you.

They giggled and gossiped to Beth, giving her the details of whatever they'd already heard from the day. Alyssa rolled her eyes, she thought it was very petty. She was more of an upfront person, the type that isn't afraid of what others think of her. If she had a problem with someone personally, she'd either say something, or just avoid the situation, like she was dying to now. Overhearing what they were saying, she frowned. Why did it matter if whathisface kissed whatshername? Like honestly she didn't understand why everyone else's business was some much more important than what was going on in their lives. But I guess they had other people to talk about them right?

Then they got on the topic of boys. This, Alyssa didn't mind. She was a flirt, if she tried to or not, and she didn't care who thought so. She enjoyed flirting, and didn't have a problem with talking about attractive people. The four walked through the hallway, passing the place where a few groups sat to eat lunch. Bridget quietly pointed out Pierce to the others, commenting on him. "Ooh he's in our class right? He's so mysterious.." Alyssa glanced at him as they kept walking, and indeed it was the boy she'd met that morning. "Oh yeah, he's pretty attractive." Isabell agreed. Beth then added, "You know a lot of the freshman boys are really cute this year.." Bridget then sent her a glare, "Ew Beth, you're such a cougar." Isabel laughed, and Beth fell a bit silent. "No, I agree. And anyways you have a better chance at getting a freshman than Pierce." Alyssa said to both of the girls. They rolled their eyes, and mentioned something about having to get to a class, leaving together.

Alyssa sighed, "Why are you even friends with them?" she asked.
Beth shrugged, and they sat slunk down in their usually seats.

From across the cafeteria, Sherry could see an upperclassmen gripping unto Nicki Coal's and Sven Amilio's shoulders. It was a trap. However, before Sherry could rush out of her seat to help them, a girl with long blonde hair sat in front of her.

It was Julia McClair, another upperclassmen. A malicious grin was across her face as she spoke to Sherry. Julia definitely was an example of a dumb blonde, (as she had just called Sherry 'chess girl' when she wasn't even in chess club) however, many people underestimated her for her slim physique, as she was very strong.

She asked Sherry to play a game. Before Sherry could slip away from the table, the girl grabbed her forearm and tightened her grip. Julia's grip felt stronger than chains, and Sherry knew she had to act fast, or else she would be a goner. She considered using a judo technique to move her hand away, but realized Julia could easily turn the tables, as the girl was obviously much stronger than Sherry. She started to panic inside her head. She knew she would have an easy time making an escape, as she was a runner. The only thing she needed to figure out was how to get Julia's damn hand off of her arm.

Suddenly, an idea popped into her head.

"Alright, Julia, I'll play the game with you!" Sherry said with a cheerful smile as she leaned towards Julia. Then, with a quick jerk back and a surprised look on her face, Sherry exclaimed, "OH I ALMOST FORGOT!!! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU ALL DAY!" Sherry quickly pulled out her red camera from her pocket. She felt her palms become clammy. If there was any time she needed to use her acting abilities, now was the time. "I need to get a headshot of you for yearbook. There's a couple of people on the list that i need photos of, and you're one of them. Can we get the photo first and then play the game? It'll only take a sec. It's the least you can do as my elder, right?" Sherry said, giggling at the last couple of words. She was using Julia's words against her. Without giving her time to respond, Sherry continued. "Alright, so i'm gonna back up a little so i can get you in the shot." Sherry leaned closer to Julia, "You MIGHT wanna fix your hair....just a little advice" Sherry said as if Julia's hair was a disaster. She hoped one of these excuses would make Julia let go. Once she did, Sherry knew exactly what to do.

"Oh..yeah. you have to watch out for them. I think it's wrong too...i mean, kids have taken it way too far. Just be careful, and don't let them get the best of you. Though then again, if somebody offered me a really easy dare, i'd probably do it", was Sherry's consolance, which was nice. He wasn't the only one that thought it wrong, and least she had offered more help than his brother. All Devin had said was advice that wasn't really advice. Don't mess up he says, don't make me look bad he says, don't let people know I'm your brother he says. Devin really aggravated in sometimes, and already he was getting to him, since he was the one messing it for him.

When he first spoke with her, he wondered what strange girl she was since she poke at 30 miles per hour, but without the rush to class, she seemed very kind and very friendly. He didn't understand why the older ones did it, but from what Pierce had said earlier, the teachers don't interfere even if they know. All they had to hope was that from his year and Pierce's year, this thing can stop, but from the sounds of it, how Nicki's sisters spoke of this dare thing, it seemed to of been happening for a long time, and then those who were once targetted preys on others. For Sven, it was wrong, but it made him wonder how the seniors now were back when they were freshman. Maybe he'd be open about it and ask one.

"Alright, thanks!", he answered with a smile and a wave as Sherry left to get her lunch before Nicki approached, "Hey Sven!", which made his smile widen as he approached her, "Hiya Nicki! All go well?", seeing as last lesson they were divided. It seemed there was no sign of Jamie. He only hoped he was alright, since so far, they had done well. All he had to do now was have lunch, sit down, relax. Something that would have to wait, as he felt an arm round him, "You two didn't think you were getting out of this, were you?...Walk with me kid, talk with me".

It seemed it was just him rather than the other girl. At least it was only one, and maybe once they were out and he got on their nerves, maybe he and Nicki can show him something called respect. However, something bugged him into doing it, which was the fact that he rarely thought, being more of the friendly and open type, rather than bold, brash and feisty like other lads. If only he had some muscle and was strong like his brother...maybe that's why he was picked on more than the other freshman males, or the fact he was new, or that he had his wonderful green hair which resulted in being more of a curse than a joy. What joy!

"I don't know the rules sorry", he heard Nicki say. Sven looked to her and saw how red she was, so Sven thought about what Sherry said, to not let them get the best of him. "Getting out of it? Wouldn't dream of it, but couldn't you let us go a little? let us chill, and tell us about this game you spoke of, cos I don't get it, and we can't exactly run away with you beside us, and besides, I don't see why we should, seeing as your the coolest guy I've met so far". Will it work? Will it work? he kept asking himself, as he applied what people saw as his weakness, as his strength, so at least they would both be able to breathe, and Nicki would be ok.

Sherry breathed a sigh of relief, relieved that her plan worked. However, it came with a consequence. Julia had threatened to make Sherry's life pure hell if she fled from the cafeteria. When she thought about the game, Sherry realized that it would be better to play the game and lose then retreat. After all, the worst thing that could happen would be sinking to the bottom of the food chain. If that meant no more seniors constantly preying upon Sherry, she was more than glad to accept her fate. After all, Sherry's friends were at chess club. They didn't have to know ANYTHING

Thinking about what Julia would pick as a dare, Sherry decided to look over at what Nicki and Sven were doing. Maybe their dares would be the same, and Sherry would have an edge against Julia. Then again, Sherry could also see what the "mastermind" senior kids came up with for dares. Julia's dare would be like a test, and Sven and Nicki would be like a study guide. As she watched from a distance, she hoped her classmates' dares wouldn't be too wicked.

The best way, often times than not, was to not be yourself. When your general manner lured you into icy waters, then it was often required to adapt to the circumstances in order to be able to get off the shaky ice and not fall in. The little pep talk he had with Sherry helped, and his own experience with Devin to say "yes" when he really meant "no". Reverse Psychology, and desperately hoping it worked, as Nicki smiled, "Hey that is a good idea maybe I can learn by watching someone else". It was like in class, you learnt better by seeing it done rather than pushing straight into it. Afterall, it was his first day. Geeezz.

"You two talk to much...I'm going to enjoy making the two of you shut up", as Sven's eyes looked up and see Richard smirk. Well, his charming didn't work afterall. Then again, it didn't seem so bad until more seniors were in sights and then a girl coming over to fuss over Nicki. Now they were in tigers den and all of the tigers waiting to pounce on their prey. Thankfully, Richard had pushed her away and then explained the rules and about what happens if they refused. Least he had abided by that part of his request and not jumping straight into it, but the answers were not so pleasing. Surely the teachers would notice this mark, couldn't they enquire and then just keep that particular student safe-r for not playing the game. Seems it was just a case of looking after oneself where others do not.

Richard seemed amused and said they kinda had a choice, which they really didn't, and if Sven didn't accept, he'd not only have grief from home, but also at school. Then again, who knows what the dares would be, and when they were over, he'd be popular and the year after and the year after next would go smoother. Guess it could work out, though the question was what he would have to do. "Sure I am", Nicki said almost instantaneously. "I'm in", looking up and straight as possible with a smile. Was kinda hard with how Richard was holding them both, but if all went well, he wouldn't have to worry about all this anymore....what was he really getting himself into......

He couldn't go back now. Once he had said he was in, that was it. Well, he could change his mind but then he'd be known as a quitter and also get the same treatment as the other lad had said. Besides, since it was their first day, they had to start easy surely. Afterall, though these dares were supposed to test their limits and see if they could push themselves to do it, so surely they would start low and then work way upto the top, as with competitions like this, you only go up, not down. Sven dearly hoped that it was something easy for the first day so he could get it over and done with and then have a good night sleep at the end and prepare himself for the next one.

As he looked to Nicki and saw her smile at him, he had no idea where her confidence was coming from. How on earth could see be all cool about it? She was probably thinking the same as him, to get it out the way and once they had passed, they didn't have to deal with them anymore. However, she seemed alot more confident and ready to get going and what Sven needed was his lunch as his belly rumbled inside. He hadn't ate anything since breakfast. "So now we're both in can I eat my lunch because quite frankly I am starving". You and me both, he said to himself trying to be as confident as Nicki as she played with her hair but he couldn't do that. It was a girl thing, but wasn't the girls most vulnerable in challenges like this. Then again, this whole system was wrong so anything could be possible. It would be hard no doubt but once they done it, they were in the clear and they could move on.

Sven was looking forward to his music lesson so he could get his saxophone out, but thinking about it, if students had to vote people for who to play in a play for example....they'd want someone with guts wouldn't they? He could not bail out, and he could not fail or his whole time here and everything he did was at stake. How Harlow gets good reputation for its results yet has this is beyond explanation...he could move school but then he'd be in a bad school and it'll be too far away, not to mention torture at home as well with his brother if he became a quitter. He had to do it, and as he thought on it, he heard Richard approach Nicki, [i]"You...You're a bold one, aren't you?"
. Sven's eyes looked to her, hoping he wouldn't try anything or give her something to disgrace her, as since their meeting, he'd say that he respected her. Infact that's an understatement, he admired her for her courage and standing up to these guys yet there he was wanting to run away but his shoes were gluued to the ground.

"We're running low on cigarettes, so why don't you get us some...tomorrow", he told her. Well, the deadline was a little challenging but all in all, it didn't seem so bad. If Nicki shown great courage like she did and got something like that, surely he'd have something even easier than that to see if he had a bone of courage on him before working his way up. He'll be alright, he can do this, as he kept reassuring himself, but the way he yawned with his smile gone and saying how he irritated him, made all his confidence build-up drop, before he quickly picked it up again like dropping his towel from swimming. He disliked being the target and despite agreeing to the game and with everyone being happy, they could at least be nice to him...surely....?

"Hayes....I want you to try and become 'friends' with him. Kind of like our own little spy, figure out what's going on in that head of his", as a chorus of laughter erupted and ended as quick as it started. Sometimes Sven was too honest and kind for his own good, but this, why this? Something else please, he cried inside yet on the outside, he took a leaf out of Nicki's book to hold himself together and keeping a straight face and nodding occassionally, but not confident one bit. "And then I want you to tell me all about him. Don't worry, your brother will give me your phone number", as he smiled at the end but Sven didn't. With his brother mentioned, he now knew he had to do it, cos if he didn't, he'd get treated badly at college and at home as well. Why me?! he asked. Not that he wanted Nicki to have the job but he was expecting something easier and straight to the point, not something as dishonest as this.

"I dare you. This starts now. For the next few weeks, you'll be my little dog. And if we're lucky, we'll see Pierce oh so heartbroken when he finds out his little freshmen pal betrayed him...", he missed the next bit as Richard stepped back, arrogant toad. Oh the words couldn't reach him, but if there was one thing he hated, it was hurting other people. Inside, one part of him kept saying "you can't do this", but then another side which kept going on and on and go in an annoying tone was "you got to do this, you got to do this", but he completely didn't feel like it. "You cannot tell him a thing about this dare, nothing at all, or else they'll be..severe consequences. Trust me, we will know if you did". Of course they would, they were the biggest bullies in the school and just a little beating or teasing could get anyone to talk. He just wanted to get out of there.

Thankfully, his desire is what he wanted to, "So you two understand, right? Then hurry up and beat it, get out of my sight until you have done what I had asked", as Sven gave a sharp nod and walked calmly till he was round the corner before running quicker than molasses, but before he could, he felt himself being pulled towards a wall before hearing a familiar voice, "So Sven, you have your first task", as Devin looked straight into his eyes and his face all serious as his hands held Sven into place on the wall, "You be sure to pass it with flying colours. In this college, your on your own. Like I said, welcome...to...Hell. One person is your friend for one moment and the next your enemy. Mess it up..." as he leaned forward, "You know what you get", before pushing him back into the wall and walking off.

Sven simply couldn't win, he was too weak as he slumped to the floor. He had lost his apetite and barely felt like eating. He wanted to run, but where? He had no-one and now was told to do something that went against his morals that he has lived by all his life. If he kept all Devin's don't trust no-one and stick up for yourself attitude, he'll just turn into a creep like him. Why couldn't he have a caring elder brother who can be playful and stick up for him? and an even better question, why did he even get himself messed up in all this in the first place? His mind simply could not comprehend at this point since all was jumbled. The only good noise was what Richard had said about not seeing their face till they completed their task, which for him was a few weeks which means no dares or whatnot while he already had this one, a task he totally detested.

Why me......

Lunch was more than halfway over and Pierce was alone, Ashlin and Micheal left him to go to class early, apparently the seniors had to go tape together the project for their shared literature class and left in a hurry. He ended up finishing his lunch and wandering down an empty hallway nearby, it's white walls nearly blinding and tile too harsh against the bottom of his shoes. The junior was headed towards an area outside of the school that was rarely checked on - let alone known about, so it was a good place to smoke.

The boy was starting to crave a cigarette, partially because of his addiction, and partially because of the walls around him. He wasn't too fond of school, though it was better than being on his own most of the day. It wasn't always so tolerable though, the air hung around him like deadweight, bringing his spirit and mood down. Even the walls of the building seemed to dig under his skin and irritate him, at times it was comforting to be in a place where he had some friends, and at others it was like being in a prison. Right now he was feeling as if it was the latte. The school itself could make him nauseous, but the people in it had an even worse effect.

Devin Amilio passed him in the hall, yet Pierce payed him no mind, not even looking in his direction. It was people like that who made him stomach feel sick more than anyone else. It wasn't how they played with others like they were toys and would cast them aside when they were no longer any fun, he did the same thing. They did this in different ways, them through bullying and him through brief adventures, though he wouldn't call himself any better. No, it was how they derived sick pleasure from the despair of others, and how they liked watching people dance for them, even if they were putting themselves or others in danger.

There was that girl who had to drive while blindfolded, or that boy who had to walk across the edge of a building while it was icy. Even if both finished the tasks without injury it could have been to easy for something to go wrong. That's what turned him ill. This environment was suffocating, and the juniors weren't any better, he could see how they were just as excited as their elders to join in on the fun the following year, like it was some sick tradition they couldn't help themselves from carrying on. Pierce didn't understand it at all. What was so great about causing pain to others? He didn't want to understand what they got out of it, not now, not ever.

Pierce turned the next corner, soon spotting one of the freshmen from earlier. The one with green hair, had he caught his name? The other boy was against a wall and looked a bit distraught. His mind soon wandered back to Devin, who truly was a snake, and he wondered if that particular senior was behind the freshman's unsettled expression. A flash of anger shot through him and his body tensed, and he struggled to keep his composure. That guy really pissed him off, even the sight of him could turn his mood sour. He wanted to demand to know what happened, but prevented himself from acting so rashly. It's not like he really knew anything at the moment, and he shouldn't go jumping to conclusions, even if Devin Amilio was an irritating, vile rat.

So he approached the kid instead of exploding, trying to ignore the negative energy around him. The boy must of had a rough first day, a lot of the people in his position did. "Hey." He greeted, stopping a few paces away from the green haired boy, which was a sight to see in itself. Pierce gestured down the hall with his head. "I was about to get some air. You want to come with?" His words were casual, but his tone was slightly strained thanks to the atmosphere. The younger boy looked like he needed to get out a bit, and Pierce knew that he himself needed to but out in the open for the sake of his sanity, if not just for a short while. That is, unless he decided to skip, he wasn't a person to think so far ahead.

He had a few weeks to get close to Pierce, the kindest guy he had met since coming into Harlow High and helped him, Nicki and Jamie get out a spot of bother with this Johnson. Now he was expected to be friendly with him which was not a problem since Sven was a friendly guy, but to feed out what secrets he had and to pass them to those guys who could then attack Pierce. He didn't like the idea at all, and despite the only positive being a few weeks away from them all, he'd be expected to deliver along with pressure each day from his brother to ensure he is doing his told.

Sven always did his told, but going against what he felt was wrong was not something he felt comfortable with. Why couldn't he have one of those elder brothers who protected him, why couldn't his brother be someone like Pierce who would come to his aid when he needed it, instead of pushing him into a wall and saying or doing what he liked. Sometimes he wished he was stronger, that he could defend himself, but if he didn't go through with these darings, he'd end up having a real hard time at school and not to mention home. The thought of it made him puke inside, and even considered puking up right now against the school's whitewash walls to add a bit of colour and show how he felt. It really disgusted him.

Nicki on the other hand had cigarettes to buy by tomorrow. With her being the more confident one, he would of thought they would of been nice to her and gave her something a little longer and little harder to see if she would do it. Then again getting cigarettes itself had it's risks, but surely something in a day to see if someone that was not really upto it was really into it or just a craven, would of been more for Sven. Though he weren't complaining about that. He thought it'll just be simply things like painting something on a teachers' car or something. As he rushed away, Nicki grabbed his hand with her long nails and let go as she realised what happened, "Oops sorry". He managed a smile, "It's alright, looks like we can get some food now. Catch you later", seeing as he was not after the canteen, but instead of getting some space, Devin had paid a visit. Despite where he had hurt him as he sat slumped on the floor, he felt where Nicki's nails had digged in, wishing that he could have some sort of defence when being faced with all this than being so useless.

Just then, he heard a familiar voice, "Hey", as Sven turned, only to see the guy he was told to betray and since he felt so ashamed he looked down thinking what to do. Pierce would probably think it would have to do with the seniors which was partly true, but what he didn't like the most was the task he had to do. "I was about to get some air. You want to come with?", he heard him ask. With his parents out and his brother in charge, he had no one to run and cry to and just then, with how kind Pierce was being, he felt like doing to him, but he couldn't. He wasn't family, he was a stranger and all they knew about each other was their names, except Sven kept his surname out the picture. Though thinking about it, maybe if he proclaimed he was related to Devin and acted more tough like him, he might get easier and not so morally wrong tasks to do.

Despite it all, he couldn't be on his own all day and he could use the company as he smiled, "coming!", he replied as he pulled out a tissue from his pocket to wipe the tears that had formed in the corners of his eye. Afterall, boys don't cry right? That's what Devin tells him. Once he was happy that he didn't look too bad, he rushed towards him since walking made Pierce wait longer. When he reached him he smiled, "Thank you", following him as he led him outside to get some air which he could really use right now.

There had been tears at his eyes, but Pierce didn't feel like it would do any good to point them out. He was sure it was better to find a way to get away from what caused such pain in the first place, discussing things didn't do much good. "It's no problem." Actions were all that mattered in this word, just talking about it didn't get anyone anywhere. He nodded, his lips pulling into a small smile as he lead the way outside, holding the door open for the other boy as the two exited the stuffy building. Inside was a home to twisted demons wearing the skins of humans, and out here there was a light breeze and clouds that covered the sun, allowing only small beams of light to be reflected off the puddles still on the ground from last nights rain. There was the noise of cars nearby and the buzz of the city around them was far from serene; even so he felt his soul grow calmer as he leaned against the wall of the building, allowing the world around him wash over his mind and cool the embers within him.

Pierce took a cigarette from out of his pocket and lit it with a simple blue lighter, pocketing the pack and fire making device soon after. He inhaled the smoke before holding the item between his fingers, exhaling the dark clouds from his lungs into the air above. "Though this be madness, yet there is method in't." He quoted Hamlet, a reading assignment he had enjoyed thanks to his fondness of poetry, referencing the seniors in the school. Though there may be those that acted as vicious wolves, the ones that controlled those animals weren't without intelligence and existed far from being simply crazed teenagers. People like Renee and Richard plotted behind the scenes to make sure everything came together in a perfect, gruesome painting that would suit their insidious, deceitful wishes.

It was disturbing, to say the least. He took another breath of tobacco into his body, pupils shrinking as he studied the sky above. Pierce's shoulders relaxed the more he studied the aerosols, the shapes the droplets of water gave him a sense of artistic beauty. They floated where they pleased, until they fell to the ground, only to dissipate and gather once more in the air. The boy's eyelids closed for a moment, candidly enjoying the moment; The soothing effect of the cigarette, the touch of the swirling cool air, the noise of the birds and the thoughts of hanging far above the ground, caught in an endless, beautiful cycle. Pierce opened his eyes again and rolled his shoulders, flicking ashes onto the ground below. He didn't want to go to class anymore. Why listen to a curriculum when he could discover and think on his own? Letters on a report meant nothing to him, memories and emotions held such greater value than money and material objects.

He looked over to Sven, perhaps he didn't take it into account if the boy was able to enjoy the silence. Pierce wasn't one to adapt, he pulled people along for a ride of spontaneity. If they enjoyed that, they could stay. Although, they couldn't stand by him for long, because soon even eccentric people wished to slow down, as they would grow weary of such an unstable lifestyle. "Do you want to go someplace with me?" He asked, making sure to study his reaction. Body language, expression, they were both important to take notice of. It's been awhile since he gained a new companion to share adventures with, he had been hanging around the band too often lately. They were official friends of his, but they didn't live like him, nor did they completely understand how the gears of his mind turned. However, they did acknowledge that they couldn't tie down a fire, and had gotten used to his erratic behavior.

A smile returned to his face, the look on his face being relaxed, carefree, covering the feeling of restlessness. "If you don't mind skipping class, that is." He put his cigarette out on the wall behind him, walking a few paces to toss the remainder of the cylinder shaped item in the trash can nearby. Pierce wasn't the type to force people to do anything, they could leave or refuse whenever they pleased. He didn't like chains on himself, so he wouldn't try putting them on others. The boy with long limbs and blue eyes that lived up to his name turned back around, looking at Sven while he waited for an answer as thoughts arose in his mind. There were billions of places to visit, the vast majority yet to be explored, and only a limited handful within his reach. Finding them on his own worked just fine, but company often made the journey more enjoyable, no matter how brief said venture lasted.

After all that had occurred, the walk had indeed eased his mind. As he walked, he attempted to clear his mind, at least temporarily, of the seniors who had started in the morning and then being pulled along the corridors and the task that he was assigned. What right did they have to order something that went against a person's morality? Probably would of been wise to ask what sort of tasks others had done, though maybe the best ones to ask was the juniors like Pierce as the seniors would only twist his request and see him as asking for more which was not his intention. Since he had nodded and agreed to go ahead with the game that meant life or death while at Harlow High, there was nothing he could do now except prove himself, pass all their tests and then finally be left alone by them. He definitely didn't see him doing something like what they had to new freshmen when he was of age.

One part of him wanted this first year to be over quickly so he could walk into school without worrying about anything, but as much as he wanted the year to pass, there was alot of work to do this year to help him next year so he'd have to continue on, press on, with such worrying thoughts in his head. He looked up as he saw Pierce leaning against the wall after having a cigarette with his eyes closed. How could he be at peace with everything around them? Maybe it was something to do with his smoking, but smoking was bad weren't it? then again, so was what the seniors were doing, but at least the smoke wouldn't question his morality.

Now wasn't the time to think of all that however as a light breeze passed through him, as if taking his burden off his shoulders and looking up to Pierce who faced him, "Do you want to go someplace with me?". Well, that was out of the blue. First day, and already he had somebody who wanted to take him out, somebody older aswell who had defended him before, as well as guiding them to their first lesson like armed security. He had been so kind to him and now the dare was to do something horrible back. What was he supposed to do....enjoy his time of course! He didn't enjoy what he had to do, but what he could enjoy was the time away from the bullies.

"If you don't mind skipping class, that is", Pierce added a smile which in itself helped him relax, as he felt safe round him. One wouldn't hurt and with his state of mind, he wouldn't be able to concentrate, as he nodded, "I don't mind" as a smile grew on his face. Sven then moved to his side before looking upto him, "So where we going?", he asked curiously.....

Pierce had placed his hand on his chin at the question, mocking a stroking motion often found in bad gangster movies and cartoons. "Where?" He acted as if he was pondering for a moment before smiling. "Anywhere we want to go." He had driven across the country before, just on a whim. However, that wasn't what he had in mind for today, the coast would always be there. He missed the ocean, but there was always next time. He began walking backwards away from the school and towards a path not far away, leading towards an array of buildings. As always, the staff was ever so unobservant. They didn't care what the students did so long as it didn't draw unnecessary attention to the school and they maintained decent test scores. Surprisingly enough, both of those were achieved, and the teachers continued to half ass their jobs. That was the law of their world, and while it had many drawbacks, it did have it's benefits.

Or at least, it benefited him, and his truant habits. "Though, I have someplace in mind." Pierce turned around, leading the way between and around buildings. His mind landed on the location because of was close by at first, though soon he realized how much he missed coming here - it must of been a few weeks since his last visit. He doubted he'd be out of practice though, but if he was - that would just make it all that much more thrilling, right?

The city was filled with noise, like usual, and it was comforting to him. Knowing there were other people, living their own lives, it was nice to be reminded that he hadn't somehow woken up alone in this world. There were so many interesting people in this world, he looked forward to the chance at meeting them. There were always those that were less then pleasant though, he wouldn't back down from them when the time came. Even so, it made him feel better to put distance between him and the school where hyenas and jackals preyed on the weak - or would it be more fitting to call them vultures? The atmosphere still seemed off to him; they were planning something big this year, and he had a bad feeling he would be dragged into it all over again.

Well, better him, then someone else.

The young man stopped outside the door of what looked to be a large, abandoned building. It's bricks were losing its color and many windows were broken, it didn't look like it had been used in several years. In reality, it had only stopped being used about six months ago. Even so, Pierce knelt down and grabbed a key from under the mat, using it to unlock the back door with peeling red paint. The inside was a bit drafty from the windows, yet it wasn't too cold, having been well insulated. He reached over and flicked on the light switch, illuminating the red and gold colored hall for them, round light bulbs over head. At one time this place was a common venue, attracting many people with the several attractions it held. Now it was abandoned and bleak, holding onto a sliver of it's past glory. To Pierce, that just made it even more beautiful. It was lost and forgotten, and it still existed; peaceful, quiet.

Not bothering with words, Pierce simply lead the way down the hallway, his posture becoming more tense than relaxed from the anticipation. The hallway grew wider, larger, and he flicked on another series of light switches, bringing light into a large room up ahead. He didn't even attempt to hide his smile as he stepped out of the hall into a large circle, surrounded by rows and rows of seats. The building housed opera singers, bands, magicians and so on until it went out of business. He walked on, looking at the objects left behind from the last show. Chairs of bright colors, a trailer, platforms, cages, stilts - all suited for the circus that had used it last. They weren't only the last show to be put on here, fittingly it was their last performance as well.

"It's not much, but..." He stopped near a ladder leading up to a platform held several feet in the air, though not absurdly so. A tightrope was between two platforms, stretching for about twenty feet across the air. It was still sturdy and would hold, being good enough to be used. Below was a net to catch people, if they were to fall. Pierce turned around and faced Sven again. "Are you afraid of heights?" He questioned, before walking over to check the net, making sure it hadn't been tampered with by rascally children.
