a character in “Witch Cocoon”, as played by Aniihya

Description

Name: Ea of Akasia
Age: 222, appears 25-ish, has been queen for nearly 200 years.
Gender: Female
Role/Occupation: Queen/Witch
Appearance: Image
Clothing: Usual clothing is like in the picture, a black miniskirt, a white button down shirt with a black tie, tends to wear thighhighs and flat soled shoes outside of palace or when doing business. On special royal occasions, she wears a black bodysuit like garment and a white hooded robe over it. More casual clothing includes skirts, blouses and cardigans. Beach wear is a blue bikini with a blue choker and a blue short sleeved plush hoodie.
Jewelry: Usually a plain black choker without a pendant, no matter the occasion.
Likes: To spy on the witches to be, cake, meat, tea flavored soda
Dislikes: Prejudice towards all witches (understand some of the concerns though), greedy relatives, smug nobles
Alignment: Neutral Good, stays in power by being popular and favorable.
Personality: Quite level-headed. She tends to consider all possibilities and chooses the ones that result in win-wins and do the least harm. She spoils the witches to be intentionally as it will influence their later personalities for the better. If attacked by someone, she will deal with them based on the type of belligerence (power hungry nobles trying to coup her end up being killed whereas unhappy citizens are immobilized and questioned why they are unhappy to see if a deal can be made). She often treats the witches to be as if they were her daughters (luckily relationships dont switch polarities after transformation).
Background: Ea was the first daughter and second child of Ruskan of Akasia. Her father was a brutal tyrant. When her parents found out she would become a witch, they kept her within palace grounds. While her father treated her well and spoiled her, everyone else only looked down on her. The anger built up in her and she took it out on small animals she could find in the proving grounds. When she turned 16, she transformed into a witch and all of a sudden her anger and hate was gone and she felt compassion and empathy. This made her realize how bad her family was. So she plotted and trained for years, so that she could one day overthrow her father, even if she had to do it alone against everyone else. When she was 23, it was time for her to overthrow her father after he ordered the slaughter of rebelling serfs. Her magic was strong enough to make the guards tremble. When her older brother, the rightful heir to the throne, stood in her way, she offered to spare him if he helped her actively or through inaction, yet her brother attacked her to which she immobilized him and snapped his neck. Of her nine siblings, only two sided with her and the others stood against her. When she finally faced her father, he told her that she would be the downfall of the nation and the system kept it prosperous. She replied to him that only the nobles and the land owners were prosperous while the rest of the country suffered and his end would lead to the end of their suffering. She immobilized him and had him taken to the dungeon where he would await public execution. On the day of her coronation, she proclaimed that she would change the country for the better and the first step towards it would be the execution of a tyrant. Her father was decapitated before the eyes of his former subjects. Soon she eliminated the caste system, outlawed involuntary servitude and slavery, made education a right for all and granted every citizen a plot of land. While things went upward the following years, there was an attempted coup. She spared the lives of the conspirators and sent them to work as farmers hands for five years with the pay farmers hands would earn, so that they would learn the life of the peasant. Then there was unrest because of nobles abuse of power, to which she turned the system into a parliamentary monarchy with her remaining head of government while giving every citizen no matter if man or woman, peasant or merchant, the right to vote a parliament, a council and a provincial governor. The unrest ceased and her popularity rose, but there was still the widespread prejudice towards witches and still undocumented killings of new witches and children destined to be witches. So one day, she outed herself as a witch and banned the killings. Many were at first outraged but then came to believe that with Ea as a good example, not all witches were bad, so local governments began to send witches to her to be checked and tried if they would contribute to society. The evil witches that tried to attack her were overwhelmed by Ea and either killed or exiled. The good witches were offered jobs as teachers, soldiers or even as part of the royal guard. At the time, she also began to seek out the children destined to be witches and took them in for study and mentoring. Over the next 190 years, the nation developed far beyond the other nations and many military campaigns were done to expand the queendom into an empire. Of the other nations, their archaic unjust systems were abolished and adapted to Akasian standards. Now the nation is modern and still prosperous and Ea has lived to be very old, yet through a means of her own research, she has found a way to stay youthful and yearns to live to the ages of fabled sorcerers. Maybe she can manage to be an eternal empress at this rate.

So begins...

OOC: Sorry about the long wait. Been constantly sick. Then the site hasnt been working for me the last few days.

Queen Ea

"We have great cooks here. Some even provide food for the poor. So don't be surprised that soup kitchens don't serve worthless slop." Ea said. "I am glad you like the food. And yes we have onion soup."

"So once Mayu wakes up, we are going to the royal ancestral village for the admission ceremony among other things. You are welcome to tag along for the week we are there and I will provide you will accomodations. Just the village has some rules, such as wearing old traditional clothing and that any witches present must participate in the ceremony to admit Mayu among witches. Also touching holy elements within the shrine is forbidden and can be punished with exile to Harvest Island if the actions are severe enough. So are you willing to tag along?" Ea said and smiled.

Cole expected Queen to have great cooks, but he did not expect an invitation to a ceremony. Ceremony that he longed to see since he heard of it from an old woman, but question was… why would she of all people invite them… a question to which he had no certain answer.

“That’s… unexpected, I’d be honored…” He managed to say, before being interrupted by Raina's yawn, who found ceremony as a boring event in lives of witches.

“Uh, I’d like to ask… how…could you tell me a bit about the ceremony itself? I heard that it is a rather fragile, that one can easily ruin it, but is it true, and if it is true, is it really that easy to…”

Raina Crow

Raina Crow only cared about the onion soup part, at least at the begging for as time passed, as they ate and as Cole couldn’t control his excitement by constantly asking about the details of the ceremony… chance to tag along grew to be more interesting, dangerous chance to annoy Queen for once.

She would say nothing, but decision was made, she will tag along.

OOC - Well, this is a terrible post ^^

Ea listened to Cole: “Uh, I’d like to ask… how…could you tell me a bit about the ceremony itself? I heard that it is a rather fragile, that one can easily ruin it, but is it true, and if it is true, is it really that easy to…”

"It can be ruined, but basically the ceremony involves me dipping my hand in the shrines holy water, touching Mayu's forehead and the other witches chanting an incantation. The actual ceremony only takes about 20 minute, but the feast and the reception afterwards however are included as rites. But tomorrow, I will have the royal tailors discuss your apparel with you for the village since it is a rule to wear traditional clothing." Ea said. "That said, you might enjoy the village as it has many facilities considered to be luxuries, but we in fact rather common in the old days. The village has a private beach on the nearby lake, a sauna, a massage parlor, large sleeping quarters with bamboo mats and heating, lots of trees and gardens and a couple of traditional taverns. If you want souvenirs, you have the option to get those too. For the ceremony, it is request you stay at least three days, but you can stay up to 10 days."

“Ah, I see, that explains a lot, and tailors are bit unexpected, but surely reasonable…” Cole lightly nod, already considering things he’d like to buy as souvenirs, but question that popped in his mind was…

“Wait, what kind of souvenirs can I buy?”

Raina Crow

It was all acceptable for Cole, but Raina wouldn’t accept tailors.

“Tsk, if he wants to wear your stuff, fine, but I’m wearing whatever I want.” Raina wouldn’t even consider wearing something else than her old and sturdy…maybe bit tarnished clothes, but still favorite and probably the only clothes she happens to have.

Queen Ea

"Raina, if you want to come along, you will have to adhere to at least the basic rules of the village. If you wear a hooded cloak, it should suffice. Otherwise we will have to go without you." Ea said.

She then turned to Cole: "Souvenir wise, you can buy dishes, statuettes, decorative weapons, amulets, trinkets, snacks, etc. Usually more old era style stuff. The royal village is like a living museum, you know."

Raina crossed arms, her face had that look of an unhappy child, when the sweet is taken away.

“Fine.” She said, or rather muttered.

Cole Renhedge

Cole’s eyes shining, lips lightly parted as he sighed. Collection will have a new addition, and hopefully it will be a beautiful statue, or a sword from ancient times, is what he thought.

“Ah, good, I see, when shall we go?” He asked.

Queen Ea

"We can go once Mayu has completed her transformation. So probably tomorrow. Until then, I will have to make arrangements and I will have the tailors discuss with you preferred clothing in traditional style. Also I will need to know if you prefer a modest accomodation or a more luxurious one. The modest one has a small room with a futon style bed, whereas the luxurious one has a larger room and a thick mattress that is elevated." Ea said.

"If you don't know the Akasian traditional clothing, it is basically long flowing gowns and hooded cloaks for women. Royals, warrior and shamans sometimes wore bodysuits underneath so they could change quickly in case of battle. Men usually have baggy pants boots and padded shirts. Robes were also a thing. Nobles usually covered parts of their faces." Ea explained.

OOC: So I don't have to explain in OOC.

Cole smiled at the choice of clothes, and accommodation. Idea of wearing something more traditional sounded interesting, for him, Raina on the other hand listened to it with crossed arms. The idea of traditional clothing and flowing gowns was far from her comfort zone, but cloak made her relax a bit, which was notable by the fact her arms were no longer crossed, the moment she heard about them.

When it comes to accommodations… Cole was slightly more interested in luxurious one, but considered resting there as inappropriate, because of his status. Fact that he somewhat betrayed by closing eyes and shaking his head when luxurious one, was mentioned.

He cared, while Raina did not, either would be fine.

“Ah, b-but of course, when it comes to accomodations… I’ll be fine with the modest one.” Cole said, blinking bit too much, sight to which Raina sighed.

“Such an… he’s interested in both for sure.” Was her guess, and so she said it. “I don’t care which one, but full gown is a no.” Once more crossed arms were back.

"I will have everything arranged then." Ea said. They finished their dining and went about their business for the next two days until Mayu finally woke up out of her slumber.

Mayu opened her eyes as the cocoon around her dissolved. She felt different. She was taller and her chest was big. Next to her was Ea. "I have expected you to wake up." Ea said. "Let's get you into some clothes and make the final preparations to embark to the royal village."

Mayu put on a robe Ea gave her and followed her down the hallway to a room where the tailor awaited her. There she chose a short pleated skirt and sleeveless top for starters. Then while Mayu was selecting her outfit for the royal village, Ea made her way to notify the others that Mayu had awakened.

Raina tricked people for the last two days, and the most enjoyable tricked one was the one who fell into a pit. On a third day she intended to read a book, but who they waited for awakened, she could feel it, and so with a sigh she had to look for the annoying brat.

A brat as she liked to call Cole, too excited for something boring. Which made her wonder, why am I even going there? A question in mind left unanswered, for she found him… as always in a middle of selling small trinkets and potions, or rather he tried.

“No, no, no, that’s way too much for such a potion, I can get better from the witches!” An old man said, Cole chuckled for he knew him well, always trying to bargain whenever they meet. Twice he fell for his pleas of help and constant mentioning of back pain, Cole made a mistake back then… for this man tended to sell the cheap things he bought, for a higher price at a later time.
“If that’s the case, feel free to visit witches, though I guarantee you won’t find a better one.” He smiled, and knew it was true, his alchemy was better, at least better than most things that witches can make these days. Sadly, his smile grew weak, as he noticed a familiar face behind the old man.

Crow, she simply grabbed the old man and whispered something into his ear… whatever it was, it made him leave rather quickly.

“Cole, time to go, she’s awake.”

“A-already? Alright, I need to pack…” He started, but she just grasped his hand and pulled towards the direction she felt Ea's presence.

“No time, quite sure she’s looking for us.”

Ea found the other two and said: "I guess you already got the news. I recommend you start packing. As soon as everyone is packed and ready, we will head to the royal ancestral village. We can change on the way or when we get there. The travel time will be about six hours. Four with the high speed train and another two by bus and then about fifteen minutes per sedan chair, foot or horseback whichever you prefer. There is no direct road, just a path, as it is suppose to enjoy tranquility."

They quickly stumbled upon the Queen, all worked up as always, immediately talking…

“I guess you already got the news. I recommend you start packing…” She kept on wasting time, though Raina was sure Cole listened, he even nod, so it was obvious. She disliked the thought of doing nothing for at least four hours, having fun at the cost of Cole wouldn’t be enough, and queen… she would rather destroy the ceremony than annoy her while they travel.

Wait, why were they traveling again? Ah, right, because I want to anger Queen Ea… though it’s no longer as tempting as it was before. Why am I wasting my time, I should focus on solving the problem I stumbled upon during my cursed research, she thought.

Cole wasn’t particularly happy about the thought of long travel, but fact that he might be able to ask about few things, or more than just few things Queen Ea… is enough to buy this unpleasant period, that may not be as unpleasant as it would seem. Then again, as he now gets to glance at the expressions Crow makes, it’s hard to say. Probably not a pleasant time, especially when he considers how she seemed to love to toy with people the last time they met, though she seemed bit lost at that time. She helped in the end, strange it was

“I understand, I’ll just pack the ne-“ He didn’t get to finish, for Raina cut him off…
“Why won’t we just use a portal? Few minutes of travel at best, unless you’re bad at using them Queen.” Changed voice at the last word, she’s already unpleasant, crap, Cole thought, and sighed.

(Okay, and getting better and better at writing... - probably the latter one is sarcastic right now, not sure really^^)

"Why won't we just use a portal? Few minutes of travel at best, unless you’re bad at using them Queen.” Raina said. Ea was slightly irritated by the way she said the last word. "Because the long way is nicer as we can see the landscape change and stuff. Plus a portal over that distance needs lots of energy, especially if it is supposed to appear in front of the village and not inside a wall, the ground or high up in the air. Precision requires a lot of energy and the further away, the more difficult it gets. Sure I could probably easily make it happen but it will be very inconvenient for me. What I can do is make a portal to a train station along the way and maybe cut travel time in half." Ea said.

Ea didn't want to do the portal too because of security concerns as the further the distance to travel by portal, the magic needed to make it goes up exponentially. At that distance, you could slay a dragon with that amount of magic. Using so much magic would also exhaust her and make her more vulnerable to possible attempts on her life, because anything could happen.

Raina couldn’t help but grin, at the sight of slight annoyance she caused to Queen. She understood very well why Ea chose not to use a portal, but…

“That is why you my Queen, always have to waste time.” She learned how to prevent the problem of exhaustion, though she won’t tell that.

Cole could see her having fun, though what worried him was… how badly it could end.

“You know, I don’t mind much these few hours, we might eve-“ He didn’t get to finish...

“Shut up, I’m not talking to you, Cole.” Raina spoke through teeth, glaring at him as if she was going to kill him at this very moment.

She didn’t, she simply smiled, and stared at Queen Ea again.

“Well, seems like we’re going to waste time, as the Queen wishes.”

(OOC: I doubt Raina would actually have no problems with a portal over 1000 miles as a portal is basically a wormhole and the energy needed is exponential aka e=mc²)

"Why do you always have to be impatient?" Ea said to Raina. "I warn you though not to be rude. Or are you acheing to experience what hell is like?" She preferred not to lose her temper and turn into the cruel person her father was. On one hand, it wasn't worth it, but on the other she was itching to hurt a fellow witch.

"Cole. Don't worry about her. She tends to be like this." Ea said after calming herself a bit.

Unsure what to do, Cole simply nod and followed Queen. All while Crow stayed behind, frustrated and happy at the same time. On one hand she was tempted to follow them, on the other letting it be, focusing on what she wanted to do the most. It was a tough choice, but... she turned around and started walking back home - not wanting to follow the two, chosing the latter as it seemed.

"May I ask why you two seem to be... in such conflict?" Cole asked, as he continued to walk with the Queen, behind her, rather than beside. He kept turning his head to where he saw Raine Crow, Raine that chose to walk away...

"We are in conflict because she hates me for the way I try to prevent evil witches from happening so that I can prevent non-witches. There are rules and Raina hates rules. Until transformation, witches have to wear a choker or collar with a crystal that shows their alignment. It has to fit snugly for accurate readings. Witches to be have the option to opt for a forehead crystal but it is permanent and inserting it is painful. There are some who hated me for it, but compared to most of the others Raina hasn't gotten over it." Ea explained.

Cole nod for bit too long, thinking about what Queen Ea said. So Raina hates rules, he thought lowering his head, and choker, wait…

“Wait, it may be strange but I know about the rules, and when it comes to… Raina, I think there’s more to it, than it meets the eye” Besides, Raina had no crystal, and crystal is permanent, right?

He took a deep breath, for this question may be wrong...

"If I may, were you..."

He paused, wondering how to put it.

“... the one who inserted a crystal into her forehead, no, wait, I mean did that even happen?" She had a choker but with no crystal, so... was there a crystal on her forehead? Ahh, I never got a chance to see it, so maybe...

"It happened. She didn't take it too well with the choker. So she had to get the forehead crystal. It was for her own good. Who knows if she would have ended up evil or rogue. The only thing I can offer is that I can modify it to maintain a single color instead of indicating alignments and moods. I know it sounds like I am a cruel monster, but there are reasons. People are born witches and taking their powers away could kill them. So the next best thing is to prevent them from turning evil." Ea said to Cole.

“Well, I can’t blame you, though I do have to disagree with this way of doing things…” But I never got to be there, so disagreeing is all I can do, but… maybe there is a way to fix this situation.

“This could be fixed, sooner or later, on the other hand… I doubt that crystal prevented her transformation to being evil, or rogue… the latter one surely failed” He laughed, though laughing stopped once he realized the trouble this fact alone can lead to.

"The crystal doesn't prevent anything. It is used as a tool to know the true alignment of the wearer. Some people think it is used for mind reading or as mind control, but that is not true. The greener the crystal is, the better as green is the color for neutral, blue means good and red means evil. The goal is that the crystal is green or pink at transformation. Slightly spoiled girls turn into good adult witches. Raina turned too lawful and ended up becoming rogue because of that." Ea said. "It is still possible to change an adult witch, but it is very difficult. With Raina, I don't know if I am willing to try to change her. Who knows what could go wrong? She is like a daughter to me and it wouldn't be good to try to intervene with her life unless she threatened the lives of innocents."

That explains a lot, wish I’ve been told sooner. – Cole thought, and wondered what exactly Raina’s crystal shown now. Not that it mattered, he got an answer to his question, and talking about Raina now… won’t help much. He was more curious about…

“What about the… witches that are against you, and basically everyone without magic?” I met few, and Raina seems to be in contact with many, though that’s just what I think after seeing… stuff. Make a note to self, and that is - next thing to ask... that young witch.
