"Please, do show me the wound before the poison sets in." Alyss moved Ira's cape above the area where the snake cut into her. The dark flesh around the wound was red, and the pink inside had lost some of it's color due to the length of being exposed fully. Alyss took the mint leaf but just held it in her mouth, not feeling like taking it's fragile flavor.
She lay down on her back. That feels better. Alyss was quiet for a bit, before speaking to Jinx.
"You don't look so good yourself. You should rest. I can wait." As long as she didn't move, she would have a few more minutes of this before the threat of bleeding out set in. She felt so useless. Helpless. If only I hadn't gone to the tavern that day. None of this would have happened. None of it..
"I-" her words stopped abruptly as she slipped out of consciousness. The black came over her gradually, numbing her as she was immersed in the dark.
[Dream]
She woke. Completely normal. She flexed her fingers. Suddenly she whipped around to see a man behind her. He had no face. Suppressing a scream, she took a step back.
"Who are you?! What do you want?!"
His head turned completely sideways. Her breath hitched in her throat. "ANSWER ME!" She screamed.
"My .. name.. does not .. matter." He drew a weapon she'd never seen before. "But.. you .. do. .. the .. mistress.. will be .. so .. pleased .. when I .. bring .. you .. back."
And then the shadows rushed around him. Alyss fell, seemingly into eternity.

As he was about to speak, he heard someone behind him.
"Alyss," Ira had a hand on his spellbook as he eyed the new girl, hair as black as ink and skin pale, and she bled from her head. He slowly put his hand away as his eyes widened.
"Damn snake. No need to go looking for me," He smiled a bit, knowing this must be the friend that Alyss was talking about.
"You know the drill Alyss, suck on the leaf while I see what I can do." She said kneeling down next to Alyss as she started to heal her. As Alyss started to slip out of counsciousness, Ira talked to the new person.
"I see you had a problem with the snake. I blame Ranmus.." She widened her eyes in a bit and Ira quickly corrected himself.
"Ranmus is not the snake he's someone-something else."
A shadow then came over the alleyway and when Ira looked up there it was, the shadow giant snake being flung in the sky. Next to it was a smaller but bulky shadow that had jumped from the ground next to it.
"That would be Ranmus." Ira said, pointing to the sky with his bloody hand at the small shadow which appears to have meshed with the larger shadow, now coming down back to the village.
As the two beasts became closer to the earth, the sun lit up the image so that anyone could see. Ranmus had dug his claws deep in the Giant snake's head and was spiraling down head with the snake's body following.
"Hey, they're getting pretty close."
The fact was they were gettng close, matter of fact it looked like they were going to crash right in that hous-
The cloud of dust, wood, stone went flying towards the trio as the house that stood in front of them in the alleyway became completely demolished as vision was obscured and coughs ever so present. Ira, took his cloak and began fanning it for some clear air, as his eyes got watery from the sand that crept into it.
The snake's body had went limp as the snake's tail went down in front of them and the dust had cleared up. The snake had it's mouth wide open as it faced the floor as it tried to eat it, and out standing right next to it was Ranmus talking small but heavy steps till he was standing in front of Ira.
"Ranmus, meet the Healer, Healer meet Ranmus." The beast simple raised up his blue arm and opened his hand to reveal his claws in a waving motion.
"Hello." The voice rang out in an emotionless tone.

"There is fire. Fire everywhere."
Indeed there was. Bright orange flames lapped at the walls around him, the air filling with pitch black smoke. There was no place for it to escape; no open window, no hole in the roof to clear the air. A series of coughs escaped Kazu's body, causing him to shudder uncontrollably. He had to get out of here, there had to be some way to escape.
Oh, but there were people in there with him. Had he not realized this before? There were more people than himself to worry about. He had a family; a mother, a father, even a baby sister. Indeed, they were all trying to find a way out. For some reason, they did not realize that there was a door just a few feet in front of them. No; they searched around frantically while Kazu stood there, eyes wide in panic.
"We need to get out of here."
Why did he just state the obvious? Kazuhiko shook his head, eyes filled with thought. "You guys, the door is right over there. Come on, let's go. Grab the child and go."
Now they seemed to recognize the object in the wall as a door. A door that would lead to their escape. Relief flooded their eyes, and they did as they were told. Without hesitation, they picked up a baby from a small, wooden crib that was starting to catch fire. Both of his parents ran towards the door, anxious to get out of the burning building.
"Hahaha...."
Kazu's eyes widened further, panic flooding their black depths. That did not come from him, nor did come from either of his parents. Now the dream would continue as it always did...
Kazuhiko woke up. His eyes flew open, the same panic in them that had been there in the dream. For a few seconds, he forgot where he was; thinking about nothing but the cold sweat that drenched his clothes. He did not always have that dream. Every once in a while, something like that would happen as he was sleeping and make him wake up in the middle of the night. Never was he able to go back to sleep after he woke up from a nightmare, so he knew that there would be no point in trying. Plus, sleeping didn't sound so great if you were sleeping in wet clothes.
"It's still dark outside." he muttered to himself. sitting up and throwing the blanket off of him. He wasn't sure if it was night or day, but he had gone to bed pretty early. Hopefully he would be able to survive on the sleep that he had. Kazu rose from the bed and walked over to the dresser in the corner. After removing a fresh set of clothes from the drawer, he quickly changed and put the dirty clothes in his pack. He would find some time to wash them later, but for now he had to get going. That witch, sadly, was not going to kill herself.
That dream had taken place in the time that his parents had been killed. He had been a little boy then, and he did not really remember how they had died. Not that he wanted to. But perhaps that was the reason why that dream kept on coming back. It didn't happen the exact same way every single time, mind you, but every single time his parents died. Sometimes he would watch them get killed by the witch, other times he would wake up before he was able to get that far in the dream. Like today.
Kazu left the money that he owed for the room on the dresser, then left the room, closing the door quietly behind him. He was polite enough to not wake people in the rooms next to him in the middle of the night/early morning. Yeah, he still wasn't sure which one it was yet. Without hesitation he walked down the hall, made a right turn, then walked across the main lobby to exit through the door. Hopefully they would find the money that he had left. If not... well, then that was their problem. He had already done his part.
'Well, now where do I go?' he asked himself. Right, onward to the witch's castle. 'She will pay for what she did to my family.' he vowed silently, his eyes narrowed. 'I will kill her for my parents, my baby sister and for my master.'
The cool wind brushed his face as he exited the building, blowing Kazu's purple tinted hair behind him a bit as he walked. The boy's hands were in his pockets, and he didn't seem to look at anything directly. A careless, nonchalant look appeared in his pitch black eyes as he headed towards a nearby alley. He never did like to travel on the main roads; it made him uncomfortable. Kazu always liked staying hidden; he preferred it when he could see other people, but they could not see him.
Therefore, he entered the shadowed parts of the alleyway without hesitation, keeping his head up as he started to think. What he was thinking about is beyond me. Even I don't completely understand how Kazuhiko's mind works, nor will I ever attempt to try. His mind is a maze that once entered you will never find your way out of again. You'll die there, forever trapped within the walls of his mind. I don't know about you, but I prefer to live life to the fullest, and I don't want to die yet. So for now, I am not going to try to understand everything that he does or why.
Kazuhiko took a deep breath, letting the cool night air seep slowly into his lungs. It smelled so pure, so clean... so bloody.... wait, bloody? Kazu let out a loud cough, surprised by the sudden taste of blood in his mouth. Someone around here was injured, and injured badly.
'Should I go and try to help them?' The dark-haired boy pondered this option for a moment, eyes half closed as he made his decision. 'No, I'm not going to. It doesn't concern me and I honestly don't care. I have better things to do than try to help someone that I don't even know.' In this world, it was every man for themselves. There was a witch out there that he wanted to kill, and he wasn't going to stop for anything, this included. He hated the witch more than he cared about a stranger's safety.
At least, this was his mindset before he turned the corner. Kazu stopped in his tracks, an eyebrow raised. Well, this was a strange sight. There was a girl on the ground, bleeding herself to death, and another girl sat over her. Apparently she was trying to help. There was also a boy here... 'I'm outnumbered.' he realized. Without thinking about it he unsheathed his staff from its hold on his back and put on end of it against the ground, as if he were using it as a walking stick. He was careful not to lean on it, though; never would he do that. Besides, he wasn't trying to fool anyone. His staff hardly looked like a stick that someone would find on the ground.
'I'm not going to attack, obviously.' he thought to himself, watching the three people with curious eyes. 'But I don't know if these people mean harm or not. So I'm taking this out just in case.'

"Hey, they're getting pretty close." he seemed to warn her.
Dust and debris flew around them making Jinx fall to her knees. Her lungs began to close throat becoming tight, her breathing became shallow. Placing her sleeve over her mouth hoping to filter the air. As the the air began to clear Jinx stood once again, she wiped the dust of her satin cloak.
Suddenly the snake's body had went limp. Stared with wide eyes Jinx was literally breathless. Her body went numb as she struggled to stay on her feet. In front of Ira stood another unknown creature. Things just keep getting weirder and weirder.
"Ranmus, meet the Healer, Healer meet Ranmus." The beast simple raised up his blue arm and opened his hand to reveal his claws in a waving motion.
"Hello." The voice rang out in an emotionless tone.
Jinx nearly fainted, "H-hel-hello.." Jinx bowed her head slightly. Her face grew colorless, "You can call me...Jinx." She whispered. Kneeling back down again she refrained eye contact as she went back to healing Alyss. Removing her hood she let her flowing hair lay down her back.
Slowly fading Jinx tried hard to stay awake she couldn't let Alyss suffer any longer. Placing her cold yet numb hand lightly on Alyss wounds she concentrated her power on Alyss. Her hand glowed greens and blues and she whispered a spell under her breath.
"Hang in there..." she whispered to Alyss hoping she could hear her.

"Did I lay down-" she stopped, licked her teeth, and then looked around. "That's new. New taste." She ran her tongue along her lips, still lying down. "Metallic." She turned her head to look at the man with the staff.
"Hi," she began pleasantly, " no need for the big scary stick, I think we'll be fine without it. Oh, and I've never seen you before!" She lay straight with a grin for about two seconds. Alyss looked back at Jinx. "You don't look so well - and actually - you should stop that before you fall over!" The shifter moved her arms, supposedly trying to brush Jinx's hands away. She gave a little laugh. "Why am I on the ground?" She stood, swayed, then kneeled over. "Oh. Oh. That makes sense! I shouldn't do that then." She lay back down, content for another two seconds, with that grin on her face. "Ha. Ha .. hahaha! That's funny. I must've fallen down. And what's with the thing? The blue thing. He's big," she giggled, "really tall. I could grow that tall. I could grow soooo taaaaalll!"
She continued to babble on senselessly. Her normal behavior was gone. So she stared at the sky, grinning, her hands constantly tugging, twisting or fraying the edges of her clothes erratically.
"I think, when all of it is over, I think I'll find that giant - blue - armadillo. And I shall rule the world! Ha!" Her grin faded, and she blinked. She spoke, again, in a rather odd tone. "Yeah."

Alyss's happiness disgusted Jinx, she didn't know how to react around happy people. "That disgusting no good snake!" Jinx became fed up with Alyss's senseless babbling. Turning back to Ira she shot a glare at the man and creature, "I don't think we have properly met." Jinx bowed to Ira and Ranmus. "I am Jinx a heal..." Suddenly everything started to get blurry, blackness was caving in.
[Dream]
Jinx eyes fluttered open as she awoken. Looking around she noticed she is in a flower field, rolling hills of flowers of a colors. A sweet sent filled her nostrils making her mouth water. The warmth of the sun felt pleasant on Jinx's cold pale skin. Jinx noticed she wasn't wearing her tattered cloak anymore, instead she was wearing a knee length emerald dress. She couldn't stop smiling the sound of friends laughing around her, bringing tears of joy to her eyes. Not to far away Jinx could see her favorite large oak tree with a swing attached to one of its think branches. Running over to it Jinx sat on the old wooden swing, the smell of non polluted air filled her lungs. "I really missed this place." Jinx whispered with a sigh. Leafs the colors of red and orange fluttered around her in the breeze. Jinx let her hair flow in the wind as she swung on the swing. Closing her eyes Jinx took in the different smells and sounds. In the distance Jinx could see her house, in shock Jinx jumped off the swing. Dashing to the house Jinx reached the handle of the door. Suddenly the handle disintegrated in front of her house. Looking up at the house it burned and invaded with plants, but not just any plants the ones the witch used to kill her father. Jinx burst into tears falling to her knees her black hair covered her face as she cried alone.

Alyss just grinned back at her. She spoke to Ira and then collapsed. Alyss gently took Jinx's head off of her side and onto the ground, where she lay still, unconscious. Or something similar.
"Oops, well she's out like a light," she giggled. Alyss stood up, staggered, and then straightened. Her wounds were mostly gone by now. "Heeey," she turned around and saw Navassa. "I've seen you before. I thought a snake gotcha." She gave her a dazed smile and then turned back around. She dragged Jinx over to the wall and propped her up against it. "Good. Good. That's .. good .. now .. " she tailed off, confused. "Oh, RIGHT! Yeah! The old lady!" She looked up with a huge smile. And like she'd said, there it was. Crouching in the top of the roof was the demon-lady, grinning in malice. It jumped down, landing directly behind Navassa.
"Did you really think you could get away? From me?" It bared its teeth and looked down at Navassa. Alyss, still smiling, walked up so she stood next to Navassa.
"Yes. And you made a mistake, coming back here. A really, really big mistake." She laughed.

Suddenly a demon lady came out of no where. "Seriously, can't I have just one normal day?" Jinx snarled. It spoke and Alyss responded but Jinx couldn't made any out it out. Pissed and tired she covered her flushed face with her hood before her eyes began to tear up. Biting her lip she tried hard to not show her emotions. All she could do was stand there and hope for the best since she has no choice she either has fight or die trying.

"Please!" he said. "I've told you everything I know! I don't know where they went!"
Safir's face remained expressionless. "Is that so?" he asked. "Yes, I believe you are telling the truth. Nevertheless, you will be punished for your crimes against the Queen."
"What crimes?!"
"By your own admission, you allowed a party of traitors to assemble in this very establishment and plot the murder of the Witch. From the information I have gathered, it seems they left this city a number of days ago, intent on their wicked scheme."
"They were nothing to do with me!"
"You gave them bread and wine. You rendered succour to traitors, therefore you shall share the fate of traitors." The barkeeper tried to protest, but his words turned to shrieks of pain as Safir began to work his spells. First the traitor's tongue burned red-hot in his mouth, scorching his flesh, then his throat collapsed and choked him to a slow and agonising death. Safir gestured at the corpse and it floated in the air, following him as he swept from the tavern.
Out on the streets, dark figures flitted to and fro under the pale moonlight. None of them saw Safir or his grim cargo, for he did not wish to be seen. Safir had been in the City of Light a full day, gathering information on the origin of these 'Death to the Witch' posters, and a disturbing picture had emerged. It appeared that a party of warriors had assembled in recent days to end the Witch's life. That in itself was not unusual, but it appeared that these warriors were gifted over and above the usual motley rabble.
Safir had heard, among other things, tales of a shapeshifter, a beast-man, a necromancer, a huntress, a barbarian, a wizard and others with uncanny powers. Normally Safir would pay little heed to such rumours, but his investigations had uncovered the deaths of five trolls within the city. There were very few warriors who could dispatch trolls with ease, and upon examination of the corpses, he had found that some of them bore strange bite marks and claw prints. Worse still, the corpses held traces of magic, and trolls were unskilled in the magic arts, which meant that whatever had killed them had included at least one magician.
So it appeared that a new rebellion was stirring against the witch. Safir was certain this rebellion would go the way of the others: into oblivion. He would make sure of that personally. He exited the city and transformed into a great black eagle, skimming above the forests as he flew back in the direction of the haunted forest. Whoever these traitors were, they couldn't have gone far. He would find them at whatever village they were seeking shelter at and end their unworthy lives.
The City of Light slept under the moonlight, but in the morning its inhabitants would discover the grisly present Safir had left for them: the bodies of five traitors displayed in the town square. It was a blunt message: they might think they were safe, hiding in their City of Light, but no one could escape the Queen's justice.

"Ugh, seriously, can't I have just one normal day?" Jinx muttered after standing up.
"Nothin's normal any more." Alyss replied to a rhetorical question. The demon looked around for a bit longer, baring it's hideous teeth. Alyss kicked it in the gut, and it shrieked, threatening death to her family and friends. "What are you waiting for?! Why .. won't .. you.. attack?!" For every word she kicked it again. Yeah, probably not a good decision, but she was loopy and pissed off. She stopped and backed off, before charging and punching it square in the face. It made a squealing squelching sound, turned around and climbed back up the roof. "Something called it. I heard it. It didn't attack because that something told it not to," Alyss guessed, looking up the wall to see how she could climb it.

Looking around Jinx couldn't help but feel like she was being watched as if someone knew she was there. "Now what?" Jinx snarled and Alyss. Looking at the bite on Alyss's side Jinx worried for the girl's health.

"Mistress!" she spat. "Let me kill them! They're hurting me!"
No. Let them hurt you. You deserve to die, you fool. You let them discover the tender, succulent children you were preparing for my feast, and now I will go hungry because of you.
"Please, Mistress!" the woman whined. "It wasn't Tessa's fault, she's a good servant, loyal and faithful, yes. Let me kill them, and you can have their blood, and I will find you more children, yes I will."
More children? Very well then... but I shall not assist you in this. If they kill you, good riddance. Take the shapeshifter first. Her blood is rich and full of wild beast magic, it will strengthen me. The healer is full of light and holy power. I don't want her blood, let it spill to the ground and let the dogs have it.
The old woman grinned, a smile of death distorting her face hideously. "Dinner time!" she screeched. From her dress she pulled a couple of serrated daggers and wielded one in each hand. Leaping from the roof, she sped towards Alyss with her teeth bared, claws ready and blades glinting, raised to strike. When she reached the shapeshifter, she slashed at her with the twin knives while simultaneously lunging with her fanged mouth.

The panther retaliated by lunging forward and under the demon, skidding to a stop. The goal was to inflict damage to weaker parts of the demon until, hopefully, it succumbed to blood loss or any other factor. That was the plan, anyway. If it worked on wild beasts then it should work on .. this.
The panther jumped at the demon, claws outstretched, aiming for the calves and ankles to hamstring the thing.
She glanced at Jinx to see what the healer was doing. Helping, healing, trying not to be a target?

“Excuse me constable, do you have a moment. In regards of the murder, I have uncovered something most unsettling, and I recommend immediate-“
“Sir, you are going to have to leave this crime scene, I don’t want any vigilantes mucking up this investigation!” The constable interrupted angrily. Well constable you have just made a vigilante, Alphonse walked away, furious that his help was denied. Blinded by anger, he roamed the streets, only to notice a fight going on. The first thing he spotted was a demon getting attacked by a large feline.
That’s probably the culprit. If that book I read was correct, demons are vulnerable to silver. Ah, silverware! He broke the silver fork into the rough shape of a bolt head, and sharpened it with a file. Securing the silver point onto a headless bolt shaft, he replaced the bolt on his crossbow with the shoddy silver bolt. He fired a warning shot, to try to get the demon's attention.
Unfortunately, the bolt curved, hitting the demon square on the chest. The demon disappeared from view, either to retreat or find new allies to summon. Damn, it got away. I didn’t know those things could teleport. He found himself among the demon’s hunters. Alphonse introduced himself, “I apologize for the loss in quarry. I didn't mean for that bolt to hit him, it was supposed to get his attention. I am Alphonse Ruize of the de la Ruize family. I'm an inventor and a genius, mind you.. You probably haven't heard of me, unless you heard about the incident about the university. In that case, it was an accident and the only reason why my compound exploded was because some careless lout disturbed it. In any case, that information is irrelevant. What we should figure out is why that demon is in the city.”
While Alphonse was talking, the demon managed to sneak up from behind him and slam him in the back with its fist, sending him flying towards the group.

While he was talking the demon snuck up behind Alphonse and whacked him in the back sending him flying towards her. She ducked out of the way and he skidded towards Alyss. Reaching to her pocket she drew out her knives and advanced slowly towards the demon. She was repulsed by the demon and wanted nothing more than to see it dead, so she twirled her knives between her fingers and gave it a menacing smirk.

Not unlike herself! The man shouted something about chicken broth, and she lunged at the demon, jaws wide. She managed to hang on as it swung her rather violently, and she was finally tore from it, along with a sizable chunk of flesh. She backed up.
"Jinx, let's not be so hasty with the knives there.. you, Elenie, see if you can get that thing in the eye," she called out as the spat the black blood from her jaws, backing up. "Okay, ugly, let's see if you want to throw around a bear," she muttered. She grew, smoothly transitioning into her tall, furry, dangerous form. She got up on her hind legs and roared as the demon seemed to, dodging a ferocious swipe and responding with her own, making sure to stay well out of the way of it's face. The elf might miss, and then .. well ... bye-bye, shapeshifter.

She hopped back over to the new man, who was a little pompous.
"Alright, look, this demon seems to be acting a little weird, like it's something's pet. I should know, I was a dog for a while.." she paused. "I think there may be something behind this, or at least controlling it. Orphanage demons don't usually stick around.. they leave. So if we're going to stop her-" She beckoned to the snarling demon- "we should find the thing behind the thing."
With a confident nod, she slipped back into her human form and sighed out of her nose. Adrenaline enabled her to transform fairly easily, though she couldn't keep it up for a whole lot longer.
