a character in “With Darkness Comes Light”, as played by MysterySnail

Description

Roman Alexey Dmetriev

Image

Alliance:
Undecided

Ark Code Name:
The Blitzkrieg

Element:
Fire

Nicknames:
Alexey, though he doesn't prefer it.

Age:
18

Gender:
Male

Sexuality:
Undeclared.

Ethnicity/Race:
White / Eastern Russian

Appearance:
Roman is built like a brick wall - tall, sturdy, and broad. He exhibits a calm exterior, though his abilities seem to be powered by rage. Despite the almost-permanent scowl on his face, he has a striking jawline and deep-set, bright eyes. His dark, cropped hair contrasts sharply with his olive skin. Roman is often confused for someone much older, due to his build and his grim demeanor. He has no true distinguishing marks, but his unique face and growling voice set him apart from a crowd easily. Roman stands at 6-foot, three inches, and 255 pounds.

Charm's Appearance:
A fiery ring, with a Phoenix nestled inside. This later becomes a pair of bracers, which encircle his forearms and hands in scorching flames.

Personality:
Roman is stoic, plain and simple. He avoids confrontation and overreaction to anything - his ability to control the element of fire is deep-seated with control over his own emotions. Roman avoids people habitually, and doesn't say much. A man of few words, he often avoids romance and friendship all together. In a fight, however, he can usually be found in the thickest part, letting loose any bottled-up distress. His abilities are channeled by intensely negative emotions, like rage, sadness, and frustration. He has a great deal of patience, but, like everyone, occasionally loses his cool.

Short Bio:
Growing up in an orphanage in Yakutsk, in the eastern bank of Russia, Roman was alone for almost his entire childhood. He has no memory of a family, and no desire to gain one. Short and sweet, he was not a popular child. He was proficient in math and science growing up, but abandoned a formal education at 16, to work the coal mines outside of the city. Thus, while he has a good deal of expertise when it comes to numbers and facts, he cannot read beyond a secondary-school level without a great deal of time. Working in the mines, Roman was nearly crushed under debris, and developed a cataclysmic fear of enclosed spaces. As per his usual stoicism, he would not admit it to anyone, even if his life depended on it. On the Day of Destiny, Roman was on his way to work in the mines, driving along the crumbling backroads outside of the burning city, over 90 degrees in the winter. He woke up in his totaled vehicle, holding his simple charm in a clenched fist. At first, he wanted to ignore it. He strove to ignore the burning in his chest, but wound up charring an entire loader vehicle at the mine. The letter in the mailbox of his hovel in the city slums confirmed his fears - he was special, and needed to relocate. A newcomer to Arcadia, Roman is uneasy, and more quiet than usual.

Flaws:
Roman is extremely detached, and often is passive regarding personal situations. He is not selfish, but hesitates before helping others, and doesn't trust anyone. He can often be abbraisive and too honest. His seeming indifference has cut short many friendships and relationships.

Fears:
The fire Ark fears confrontation and losing control. Being ignored deliberately unsettles him greatly. After an incident in a coal mine, Roman harbors a crippling fear of enclosed spaces, though he would not admit it easily.

Abilities:
✖- Control of lit fires, embers, burning materials, and molten rock - ✖
✖- Can ignite fires at will -✖
✖- Control of temperature of the air around him, up to 20 feet -✖
✖- Superhuman strength -✖

Weaknesses:
✖- Constructing and igniting fires drains Roman's energy immensely - ✖
✖- Controlling all forms of heat/fire takes extreme concentration -✖
✖- Roman can actually pass out if he strains too hard using his abilities -✖
✖- Roman requires a considerable amount of rest after using his abilities - up to a few days of sleep and down time. -✖

Face Claim:

The city of Arcadia glistened with sunlight. It would be easiest to compare it to New York or Los Angeles, but it was a fairly new city, so it was unlike others with the same population. It was not unusual for entire families to move to Arcadia at a time. In it's one year of function, Arcadia had already become a major city in the United States. Anyone could see why. It boasted a coast lined with large hotels and amusement parks everywhere. If someone combined every popular city in the United States, it wouldn't even begin to compare to Arcadia.
Seven o'clock. Not an unlikely time for people to be up and about. One girl followed this rule of the weekday. She was getting ready for school, checking her texts, doing everything a normal girl would do. However, Avalon Delta was far from being a "normal girl". If someone had seen her bend over her bed to grab her notebook, they would've seen a small key dangling from around Avalon's neck. Most people didn't know what the key was actually for, but she knew very well what it was for. When she straightened up, she tucked it back under her shirt, glancing around anxiously.
She placed her notebook in her blue messenger bag the moment her phone rang. She picked it up, answering the call. "Hey, mom. No, everything's going great. Didn't Tori start school today?" she paused before laughing softly. "That's great. Look, I gotta go. I'm showing around the foreign exchange students today. I'll call you back later. M'kay? Love you, bye!"
When she hung up, she placed the phone in her pocket, letting out a small sigh. She slung her bag over her shoulder, walking out of her dorm room. As she walked to Arcadia Academy's main building, she chuckled a bit. Exchange students weren't unusual in the Academy.
It took a few minutes for her to get to the office and when she did, she looked at the ten new students in front of her. She sighed, her shoulders slumping. This was going to be a long day.

Roman Alexey Dmetriev

What a joke. Not even a full night of sleep before class.

Roman scowled glumly, deep purple blooming under his bright eyes. The sun poured thinly through the only window in the room, blinding him partially as he lay in denial on a mattress on the carpeted floor. Roman denied it quietly, arms folded under his head. The light was orange and cream, and it landed so perfectly on his face that he had no choice but to groan and force himself up. The tall young man stretched briefly before crouching to ruffle through his dufflebag and suitcase, attempting to groggily stumble into suitable clothing. He plucked his jacket from the floor and pulled it over his shoulders, the navy blue material stretching taught as he raised both arms above his head and yawned in a final attempt to shake away the three-hour nap.

His flight had come in so late that Roman had nearly no time to sleep, let alone eat - and his belly resented him for it. It rumbled as he ducked out the door, a plain bag over one shoulder. Roman pulled the grey hood of his jacket over his cleanly shaven dark hair, thundering down the stairs to the shimmering city below. Luckily for his sleeping habits, the housing was near enough to the school where he might slip into orientation unnoticed. Absently he ran his fingers over his charm - a brilliantly silver and rose gold phoenix, seated in a wreath, that hung around his throat. He was looking down, flitting through his cellphone, which still had not been switched over to an American service carrier. He sighed, and tucked the useless brick into his front pocket.

The campus was decidely large enough to rival most universities, he decided, looking up at the daunting buildings. He chewed on the inside of his lip blankly, looking around for any signs of an office building. Roman's limited english barricaded him from quickly finding the administrative building. Coupled with the late start, he was the last of the students to slip into the office, and he did so as quietly as he could, silencing his phone in his pocket without looking down. He was overwhelmingly the tallest, and hunched a little to avoid being too conspicuous.

Scarlet peered out of the window at the passing scenery flowing past the train car she was seated in. The sun was still below the horizon and she couldn't just fall asleep again after waking up and having to go through all the commotion of getting her things packed. She had packed an entire suitcase and would have brought more if not for her mother whose scolding words which were, 'Scarlet! You can't take everything! When I came to America, I had to bring only my finest dresses and a few work clothes. I had to leave some of my more docile gowns and sheets behind!" Scarlet winced remembering the irritated Irish accent micromanaging everything she did. Her mother was a tough one but she cared and that's what made her perfect. Scarlet shifted in the seat trying to find a comfortable position. It would be a long ride ahead tip she reached Arcadia, her new hometown.

The red-head's eyes fluttered open as an attendant shook her shoulder gently. She gazed at his embarrassed face and shyly hunched shoulders in amusement as she gathered herself and her wits. "We've reached Arcadia. Isn't this your stop?" He inquired, daring to meet her baby blue eyes. She smirked and stood, scooting around him to retrieve her luggage from the compartments above. "It is. Thanks." She replied cooly, staying focused and ignoring the feeble young man. He was cute but wasn't at all her type. She adored men who were muscular and hunky. A man who would stand above all the others. Scarlet couldn't help but grin as she pushed past the man and waved goodbye with her free hand. She stepped off the train and looked up to the sky, noticing the sun rising now. She felt a bit better now that she could see the sun and certainly felt less groggy. Scarlet stood with her luggage in hand and basked in the narrow rays of light momentarily before she cast her gaze over to the exit. As she made her way to it, her mind briefly reminded her how strange it was to take power from the sun. Scarlet knew she wasn't a monster, or any less human, but that didn't change the fact that she felt stronger when it was daytime and weak during the night. She could run faster and lift heavier things during the day but became as feeble as a little girl during the night. Due to this, she always tried to keep some type of light device handy and in this case she had brought her night lamp which would help simply to keep it from getting too dark in her room when she needed rest. Scarlet hailed a taxi and when one finally stopped in front of her, she got in and directed him to the academy. She knew where it was from being drilled so many times by her parents. She would have been completely unprepared if not for them. That thought elicited a small smile and she leaned back in the cab chair. Scarlet felt absolutely thrilled and the excitement pulsed through her veins like pure adrenaline. She fisted her hands in her lap to keep them from shaking. As she looked out the window at the bustling city, she wondered who she would meet at this new school and what fate had in store.

Scarlet arrived in one piece and immediately headed to her assigned dorm room. She was of the impression that she would have the room to herself and she was thankful because other girls tended to hate her. Scarlet entered the room but didn't spare the drab surroundings a glance because she was already nearing the time for orientation. She set her luggage on the bed and checked her appearance in the mirror on the far side of the room. Her pleated floral print and white skirt nicely complimented her short sleeved white blouse with ruffles in the front. It was stylish, modest in covering a decent amount of skin without seeming uptight, and casual. It was a perfect outfit for a first impression or so she thought. The girl delicately preened herself before leaving to go to the orientation room. She was so excited and nervous that she practically skipped the entire way there.

Scarlet peeked in the room and noticed that many people had already arrived. She cursed the slow taxi driver but her annoyance at the driver was overwhelmed by the sense of euphoria. She smiled pleasantly and entered further into the room, not wanting to seem awkward just standing at the door. She allowed her gaze to float over each occupant nonchalantly but she was feeling them out and sensing them and what they felt. She had noticed this particular preternatural skill when she had first received her charm but after some practice she was able to somewhat feel what others were experiencing. However, if she focused too hard or they were going through some trauma or overly emotional situation, she sometimes overloaded and it backlashed on her. She took her place on the far side of the room and suavely regarded the man nearest her. She raised her brows in surprise. Oh wow. Guess lady luck is on my side. Dang. She thought in shocked amusement. The man was not only handsome, but looked rugged in a way that made her wanna tease him a bit. She wondered what he looked like when he was all riled up and a mischievous smile formed on her lips as she checked him out blatantly. She noticed that two others had sparked up a conversation and figured it was as good a time as any to introduce herself. "Hey. Name's Scarlet but you can call me Ann. Are you new in town too?" Her voice was feminine and seductive and her southern accent wouldn't go unnoticed by a foreigner. She extended a polite hand to him.

Marcus Lorde never actually imagined that he would ever attend school in a city, much less the newest flourishing city. So far, Arcadia seemed much more hospitable than most places he had traveled to, but it was still too early to judge a book by its cover. Despite being born in England, he had been raised as a farm boy. However, no one could tell that by simply looking at him. He dressed like most teenagers with the small exception of the geode necklace swinging back and forth with his movements. It glinted in the sunlight as he walked to the academy's main building.

With a small hum, Marcus climbed the stairs into the office, only to discover that he was probably the only person that hadn't arrived yet. He walked off the the side just as the principal, at least he assumed it was the principal, walked in. She seemed like a very professional woman, with her hair in a bun and a manilla folder tucked under her arm.

She smiled warmly at the new arrivals. "Welcome to Arcadia Academy. I'm Principal Shire. If you have any questions, you can ask me or your guide, who should be here momentarily. Girls, she is in the dorms, so don't feel awkward if you have any questions. Boys, you have a dorm head, who was unfortunately out last night and this morning, but should be back today. Anyways," she opened the folder and started sorting through it. "Here are your schedules. Let's start from the top: Derren Akumu, Thanos Callis, Roman Dmitriev, Moa Eden, Scarlet Harris, Marcus Lorde-"

Marcus watched the others step forward until he heard his name. He walked up and grabbed his schedule, glancing over the piece of paper. The classes seemed relatively normal. They were ones he picked, after all. The principal was about to say something else when a girl entered the room. Marcus assumed she was either a late newcomer or their guide. She looked over the crowd and her confidence seemed to slump. Before he knew it, her smile was back on her face, "Good morning, everyone. My name is Avalon Delta and I'll be your guide today."

She repeated herself in several different languages, not even stumbling once over the foreign words. Impressive. Marcus thought.

Roman pulled the hood away from his face, folding his arms over his chest quietly as he observed the quietly conversing group. The color palette of the group was striking - all colors of hair, skin, and eyes blended together in the gathering. A woman with pink hair, a boy with white, and a redheaded girl who snuck up next to him and began introducing herself in an accent that made him think of poorly-made American caricature. It took him a few seconds to piece together a response to her introduction. He took her hand briefly, not letting the contact last any long than it needed to, and muttered out a broken-english response.

"Roman, nice to meet you." Half of the words were slurred with his heavy-handed manner of speech. He wasn't entirely focused on her as a woman shuffled into the room and began speaking rapidly. He dropped his hand and listened intently, piecing together what he could of her speech. He shuffled quietly, looking each person over as they fetched their Itineraries from the Principal. Each was as colorful as the last. As he heard his name spoken in english, Roman shouldered his way through to the front quietly and gently, fetching the papers from the woman he towered over and hurriedly making his way back behind the group. He leafed through it, casually leaning against the doorframe, struggling with each line briefly.

Avalon brushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear, her eyes scanning over the crowd. It seemed like she had gone unnoticed for the most art, or maybe they assumed that she was another new student. With a silent sigh, Avalon cleared her throat, "Good morning, everyone. My name is Avalon Delta and I'll be your guide today," she repeated the statement in Russian, Greek, Italian, and Japanese, just to make sure everyone could understand her. "First off, I would like to welcome you to Arcadia Academy. I hope you enjoy your stay here as much as I have."

Suddenly, a the charm under her shirt started burning, She winced slightly before pulling it out. Not now... Luckily for her, the charm cooled down. She dropped against her chest, her "guide" smile returning. "We should get moving now," she said. "The classes aren't going to wait on us. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in whatever language you are comfortable with."

Once again, she repeated it in the other languages. She looked at Principal Shire, "I think I can handle it from her."

Shire smiled, "Of course. Let me know if you need anything."

Avalon nodded and turned back to the students. "Let's move, people!" she walked over to the door and held it open for all of them, "We don't have all day!"
