They were running away.
Donovan cheered along with his squadmates. They stopped though, when they realized something. The Sarge was dead. One of the other privates said a prayer over the body, and they brought it back to where they were stationed to ship the body back home.
A few days later, Donovan was told that him and his squadmates were being moved to the eastern front. "What!? You want me to go fight Krauts!? Man, you're kidding me!" he said outloud, even though he was talking to himself.
A week later he was on the plane headed east though. It would be tough from here on out.

Viktoriya would duck down in the Allied trench, fingering her Brittish revolver as she did. Her head shot up above the trench, followed by her arms, in a ready to fire position. She fired the handgun twice, .455 rounds creating thunder as they zoomed towards the advancing Germans. MG-34s roared to life in front of her, causing her to get back into the trench, holding her hat over her head. She looked down to an American soldier, holding his arm as it had been grazed. She grabbed him by the arm, and pulled him to a sitting position, kneeling down beside him. "Git up, you idiot. That is just a scratch! You can steel fight, so pick your nads off the ground, and git UP!" She said, growling fiercely at him, before standing back up, and looking up from their trenches again. Her revolver peeked up, and rang out death for another unlucky German. She leant back down, and growled. This was getting them nowhere.
She peeked over the edge of the trench, realizing that there wasn't much more she could do, as help was limited. She fired her revolver three more times at the Germans hiding in their entrenchment. She leant down, and flipped her revolver open. Feeling around her coat pockets, she found her .455 rounds, and took out five or six, plucking them out. She replaced the rounds in her revolver, and snapped the weapon shut again. She looked around, hoping that the Germans would fall back soon.

Kate had arrived with a large convoy, full of medical supplies, food, ammunition and many other fellow nurses. Her body ached after the long voyage. The canvas back of the truck she had ridden in hadn't sheltered her much from the unforgiving cold and rain.
With a blanket drapped over her shoulders, Kate took in her surroundings as she entered the building. It had previously been a school, she had noticed that rather quickly. All the desks had been removed from the rooms, allowing space for beds.
"All new arrivals, please gather around me." Called a womans voice as she clapped her hands, looking as though she refused to waste time. Kate turned from the doorway of the makeshift ward, and headed toward the small crowd of women that had gathered. "Your sleeping quarters are down below, in the basement. Find an empty cot, unpack whatever little belongings you have brought and return quickly." She had pointed to the end of the long hallway where a staircase could be seen. "We have been short staffed for sometime, and there are some ladies that are in dire need of rest. You will assume their position while they do so." Again, she clapped her hands, more quickly this time. "Now go on! Off you go!"

Ducking down out of the enemies sights, Jack pulled the pin on a grenade. Quickly, he hurled it at the nest where the two other Germans remained. Once more, Jack took cover. He waited for the explosion, which followed seconds later.

Aria looks up and gives the older woman a smile. "Good afternoon Madame Genine," Aria says, her French accent oresent as she talks to the older woman. "And non, they have new volunteers so I decided to come work today. I need some more money, I'm running low on food at home and I also need rent money. You know how these ohmmes tip." She smiles at the wife of the owner of the pub and inn. "So where is Monsieur Wilson?"
"He's decided to scope out the front lines today," Genine says. She shakes her head and picks up another glass, polishing it until it shines. "The man is going to get himself killed. Never held a gun in his life before...." Aria laughs at Genine's mumblings and ties on her waist apron. She walks back in to the kitchen to see if she can help as they wait for the patrons to start filtering in and the fighting to stop for the day.

The basement had been arranged much like the wards above. There were cots lined on both sides of the large room, and at the end of each sat an empty trunk for their belongings. The coal stove that sat in the far corner didn't heat up the room much, but being so close to the frontlines Kate wasn't expecting luxury. The girls quickly took to empty cots, emptying their clothing and things into the large trunks. Kate did the same, making sure she gathered her uniform neatly together aswell.
Once all of her belongings had been unpacked, Kate quickly changed into her uniform. She adjusted the White cotton shirtwaist, tightening the belt and folding her collar and cuffs over. She slipped on her white heels and headed up back up the stairs.
Kate was assigned to Ward Two with one other nurse, the both of them were to tend to all of the paitents in the ward they had been placed in. Each ward had up to 30 beds, and most were already occupied. Kate began making her rounds, introducing herself to the paitents while she did so.
