Coming from the second most important family in the Chiss Empire, Senator Nuruodo is used to the finer things in life. For the mission she wears a functional suit composed of trousers, a shirt and a jacket full of pockets. While she prefers a diplomatic approach to life she has no delusions about the sorts of people one might come to deal with out in the big unknown, and so packs a pair of laser guns in addition to some sharper necessities hidden at various locations beneath her clothes.

Senator Nuruodo was raised to believe two things: anything that wasn't Chiss was bad, and anything to do with the Chiss was superior. As a result of this it was unsurprisingly hard for her to become a diplomat, but she has had many years of experience and believes herself to have found a compromise which works in her favour. Though the traces of her haughty behaviour doesn't sit well with everyone she speaks to, she has found a centre in chilling politeness which, though it's hard for her to make actual friends, has proved to be an advantage in rigorous dealings with politicians, of which there have been many. Her job has not been made easier by the fact that her people used to be explicit allies of the Empire during the Clone Wars, and her face was met with a lot of hostility during her initial arrival.
As a diplomat Nuruodo is well-known for her reserved nature, preferring to listen first and speak later. Sometimes her quiet can be assumed to stem from insecurity or disinterest, but rather, the Senator is of the opinion that unless you have all of the information, you may as well have none of the information, and so would do better to keep quiet until you can attain it. There is nothing she dislikes more than an uninformed opinion, and she's likely to tell you as much if you have one. She can be somewhat brash and unfeeling, believing the truth to take precedence over tact, but has never been unnecessarily cruel. Likewise she's unlikely to hold a grudge: if situations change, they've changed. Remembrance of past mistakes is so you can avoid them in the future, not so you can obsess about them in the present.
Nuruodo has had the most trouble establishing a private persona as well as the professional one. Back home she would be expected to act the same regardless of who she was talking to, and so it took her a while to realise that outside the debating room, the other Senators might not appreciate an equally brash and logical way of thinking. Consequently she has had a hard time making friends, and remains a polite acquaintance to most even now.
As she grew more comfortable in her own skin, getting used to who she was as a Senator and away from home, slowly but surely a new Nuruodo has begun to surface. While her major traits remain the same (Quiet β Logical β Brash) she has been able to find a balance within them so that not every conversation might be construed as a debate. She loves listening to people talk about themselves and their interests outside war, getting glimpses of far-away planets that she'll never see. At heart, one might say, she's an adventurer, and she's never ceased to be amazed at the splendours of the universe. She likes quiet moment, anecdotes of unexpected happiness, and warm feelings of loyalty and friendship.
She keeps in constant touch with her family and seems to be fiercely loyal to her sister Bryum'Nuruodo in particular, possibly out of thankfulness for her efficient disposal of their mutual father. Of her homeworld and its history she reveals only what has been allowed for her to say by the collective Chiss council, though it is often easy to tell by her expression that she wishes she could tell more, and the level of secrecy insisted upon by her superiors is of great pain to her.

Thames was born during volatile times. The Ruling Families were in an uproar, having recently gone from Nine families with shared responsibility, to Four families fighting each other for scraps at the dinner tableβ so to speak. The Nuruodo family was one of those who came out of the troubles on top, earning their rightful place as the second most important family in the Chiss Empire with complete control of the military and, more importantly, foreign affairs. Thames was raised by a father with an inferiority complex the size of a small galaxy, who would protect the family name with teeth and claws of necessary. Her siblings, consequently, went on to become overachievers in their respective fields, and Thames was no different.
The first seeds of doubt were sown when the Killik disaster struck, of which the Rebel Alliance knows little, and the Chiss are willing to reveal even less. Suffice to say that it created some questions about what it meant to be a "true" Chiss, and brought the truly xenophobic viewpoints of her people into a light that not even Thames could ignore. Once the proverbial dust settled, Thames was old enough to start thinking about the future. Given that her choice was in line with the family responsibilities, she met little resistance at first when she began her training. As it became increasingly clear what she intended to do with said training, however, her father in particular was less happy.
Her father tried to deal with the matter internally in the family, but Thames was having none of it. At this point she was practically a young woman, no longer a child, and so was able to have the matter brought up before the other families. Shamed and humiliated, her father met the Cabinet as a broken man, brought to the end of his rope by his own neuroses. Upon imagining laughter from the crowd, he finally snapped and attacked Thames in a fit of rageβ giving her the scar across her face. Later, when her sister had been installed as head of the family, Thames was able to use this incident to guilt trip the Cabinet into letting her contact the Rebel Alliance.
Senator Nuruodo has been working as a diplomat for the past six years, establishing trust and laying down the foundations for a co-operation between the rebellion and the Chiss Empire. She is engaged to be married to a man named [Name], and though they have only met once she figures they'll get along. Her presence on the mission was meant to be a mitigator in case they were discovered by the Chiss vanguards as they left for the Outer Rim.
