When it comes to day to day wear, Alex doesn't really give it much thought. As far as he's concerned, as long as it's comfortable and looks reasonably ok, he's good to go. Idea of what he wears. The trim of his X-Men uniform is teal

Alex is a fairly laidback soul and it takes a fair bit to really rile him up. He does get annoyed but few have ever seen him really lose his temper, and it's really not a pretty sight. While he doesn't relish the role of leader, it's a role he's good at and seems to flourish in. Being second-in-command is a happy compromise between being leader and not wanting to be center of everyone's attention. Alex is very careful with people's feelings, and tries to find the best way not to hurt anyone's feelings. Alex is a fiercely loyal friend and will always have your back in a fight unless he's also friends with the person you're fighting with, in which case, he will walk away and let you two figure it out. He tends to avoid arguments, and prefers when everyone knows their place and behaves accordingly. He can be the kind of person to give someone way too many second chances, but he does try to see the best in everyone, even if no one else can see it. It takes a lot for Alex to give up on someone
While he does try to give off a confident aura, Alex isn't that confident. Not to say he's shy, he's just not that gregarious. He can be sociable, but he does like his own company from time to time. Also, he's never quite sure how to take a compliment, and generally just feels uncomfortable, smiles and says a polite 'thank you' even if he doesn't really believe it himself. He knows that she isn't a bad person, but he feels uncomfortable when people point out good things about him.

Absorb and Amplify- Through skin to skin contact, Alex can absorb the powers of other mutants and amplify them within himself. He has the ability to increase a fellow mutant's power level but is unable to use this ability as of yet.
{W E A K N E S S E S}
Alex loses the ability to use a mutant's power the moment he comes into contact with another mutant. If a mutant is already at a high power level, then Alex can 'burn out' which leaves him physically weakened and temporarily powerless.

"So, not only did I disappoint daddykins by being half a homo, I'm a mutant too. You can just imagine how proud he is, right?"

Alex grew up as the youngest of the Carter children and the only boy. While he was certainly doted on, as were his sisters, there was an added expectation, particularly from his father, to grow to be the man of the house. Due to this expectation, Alex grew up quite quickly, leaving behind toys and fairytales long before many of his classmates. At school, he had a handful of close friends and his grades were pretty decent without having to work himself too hard. His family had pretty conservative views and were obviously anti-mutant. For a long time this wasn't that big a deal for Alex until he was fourteen.
When Alex was fourteen, he gradually came to discover that he was bisexual after developing a crush on one of the guys he went to school with. He decided to come out to his parents first, with the plan of using their reaction as a barometer. To say it didn't go well would be an understatement. The only way he didn't get kicked out was his mom managed to calm his dad down, convincing him that Alex was just going through a phase and would grow out of it. After that wonderful coming out event, Alex kept himself closeted from then on in. Alex continued on with high school, blissfully unaware of his mutant powers for a good two years. When Alex was sixteen, and still unaware of his powers, he came into contact with Bobby Drake at school. When shaking hands with Bobby, both their hands became instantly encased in ice. Realising that Alex was a mutant, Bobby informed Professor Xavier. When his parents found out he was a mutant, he was all but kicked out of the house. Surprisingly, Alex didn't take much persuading to join the academy.
It was initially thought that Alex had similar abilities to Bobby until he came into contact with other mutants and began mimicking their powers but at a higher power level. Alex trained in rotation with various members of the X-Men, learning how to use their powers as well as increasing his own. Like high school, Alex made a few solid friends. When it came to Cyclops, Alex had something akin to hero-worship going on and enjoyed his training sessions with Scott the most. When the squads were formed, Alex was pretty pleased that he was in Cyclops' squad as second-in-command to Mia.
