Sophia was coming to the Institute from Santorini, Greece, where her grandparents hailed from. She enjoyed it there, surrounded by the beautiful Mediterrean Sea and the bright houses that lived on the shore. She moved there when she was very young, after her mother scorned her for what she was. It took the Institute quite some time to find her, but they were persistent in their pursuit of having her as a student. They reasoned that she could be a force to be reckoned with if she had the proper training.
AS the taxi stopped at the front door, Sophia jumped from the backseat, eager to begin her adventure here. The driver popped the trunk from which she gathered her few belongings. After emptying the trunk of it's contents, she went to the driver's side and paid him the money he was due and with that, the man left.
Around the mansion, young people could be seen laughing and smiling. She knew behind some of those smiles was a troubled past full of ridicule and contempt, much like hers. The fact that some of these young people could still smile and laugh was a testament to how well this school treated it's students and how welcome it made them feel.
She was unsure of how to proceed, but she had no time to decide before a young woman with bright red skin and horns came from the door. "We've been expecting you Sophia. Welcome to Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters. My name is Nadia. I'll be something of a tour guide and adviser while you are with us. Come with me, and I'll show you the room in which you'll be staying."
And with a flourish, Nadia plucked her bags from the ground and led her through the front doors.

Thankfully his parents took some time off to drive him up here, they'd insisted upon it because they wanted to see the school for themselves. The 16 hour drive got broken up into a 3 day adventure of sorts, they didn't really rush, and stopped at a few places along the way. By mid-afternoon on the third day, the mansion came into sight and Vincent felt the nervousness in his stomach return with a vengeance; he sunk down a little in the seat of the car as he stared up at the building. It was quite a beautiful building, and sort of reminded him of his old school back in France, which in turn made him homesick.
His father pressed the intercom and spoke his best English to the woman on the other end, it took them a few repeats to get the message across; but finally the giant iron gates swung open to allow them to enter the grounds. Slowly the car drove forwards and pulled to a halt out front of the mansion. The three got out and helped Vincent take his bags from the car, it was quiet here right now; which suited Vincent fine. He liked quiet.
"Should we wait here? Or go in?" He asked his parents in their native tongue.
"Oh! I almost forgot." His mother exclaimed suddenly, reaching into her handbag. She withdraw a book and passed it over to her son. "It's an English to French dictionary, to help you talk with your new friends easier."
Vincent smiled broadly as he took the book, giving his mother a (very) brief hug. Hugging parents is fine at home, but at your new school? Embarassing! "Thank you!" He opened it and flicked through for a moment before snapping it closed and sliding it into his leather satchel.
A rather intimidating red skinned woman with yellow eyes, black hair and... horns? emerged from the building and made her way out to the family. They exchanged greetings and spent a few minutes talking with Nadia about the school. As the woman took the young man's bags, he said farewell to his parents and watched them drive away. Nerves hit him as he turned and hurried after the black-haired mutant through the halls and to his new room in his new school.

The window, despite the sunshine outside, was cool to touch where it connected with the side of her face. It seemed to relax her muscles surprisingly, turning her expression to a blank slate. She had given up focusing on the people on the ground, Liz would meet them all soon anyway. And Nadia looked completely at home, heading out to meet each and every single one of them. She remembered the mutants cheer when she had stepped foot in the institute, following two professors anxiously from the car. The red skinned woman had seemed like a threat at first, with her yellow eyes seeing through them all eerily. And yet the smile and bubbly voice that emanated from from her simply made Liz want to stuff her hands in her jacket pockets and hold her head down to eliminate all theories that she was associated with the cheerful being. Simple annoyance came from the woman speaking, nothing more thank the gods.
Heaving a sigh she slipped away from the window and walked to the door, grabbing her jacket on the way and pulling it on to cover her Metallica T-shirt and bright pink hair. The jacket was loose, and hanging down to her mid thighs; the yellow symbol for peace with an angry red slash through it on the back. Over her plain black jeans and shiny black, lace up boots she looked like any other angry teenager. Excellent. She knew how to play that part rather well and anyone who saw someone who looked like her would simply turn and walk the other way. She didn't really want to leave her room, the desire and temptation was there to just sit at the window all day until summoned to meet her new classmates.... or inmates as she so affectionately thought of them. Yet there was a much stronger desire to grab some coffee while the halls were relatively empty.
Along the way she nearly ran into Nadia as she was leading a student through the halls. Literally ran into her. The woman had been babbling on while looking back at the girl behind her and not watching where she was headed. If Liz hadn't been so caught up in brooding over her thoughts she would have been able to avoid the woman as she rounded the corner but no, today seemed to be the day they both decided to not pay attention and with a dull thud, Liz fell back with a flushed scowl. She was scolding herself for not paying attention and had blocked out the cheery, though worried voice. When a red hand reached to help her up she jerked away and stood quickly. The bags that she had been carrying had dropped and Liz felt somewhat bad so she helped Nadia pick them up, avoiding physical contact the entire time.
"Don't touch me." She nearly spat in annoyance. Liz sighed and wearily inspected the student who had watched.
Nadia seemed unfazed by her tone. "Oh Liz! Excellent timing! I want you to meet Sophia!"
"I'll pass."
"Oh but I...well would you be able to take Sophia up to her room? It's room --"
"Pass."
The red-skinned woman stared at her blankly before smiling brightly again. "O-ok .... I will show her to her room then and go back to meet the new arrivals. Where... where are you headed Liz? You rarely ever leave your room."
"The coffee Goddess calls, Nadia. And I being her loyal and faithful servant, must answer with haste." She turned to leave but gave a second last minute thought. Turning she looked at the girl Nadia was leading around. She had black hair, and pale skin. She also looked to be a few inches taller than Liz. Strangely the newcomer didn't look uneasy in this place. "I'm... Liz. Nadia takes it upon herself to show the new students around. She's odd looking but harmless. I uh..." She was feeling her throat tighten and pulse quicken again. The more time she spent in the company of others the more paranoid she became. "See ya."
Without waiting for a response she waved and turned back to head towards the kitchen. With any luck she could have a cup in the gardens before too many people flooded the place.

Today, however, she wanted - needed - a difference. She didn't know what she expected from her father, but this was suffocating. They were driving up the driveway towards the immaculate ivory mansion and although her mentor was there, Lydia felt more alone than ever and being alone...that never sit well for Lydia. And no, she wasn't an attention whore or anything. But being alone meant being with your thoughts and Lydia's thoughts...forcing herself to throw up while contemplating slitting her wrists were not the thoughts Lydia wanted to be alone with.
And her father was not helping the situation.
I mean, I'm your daughter damnit. Your little sunshine? Your baby? YOUR ONLY CHILD!? Isn't one part of you going to miss me!? She wanted to scream that at him. She wanted to cry in frustration. She wanted him to at least glance her way, damnit! But no, he couldn't even give her that satisfaction. He could care less if she was deciding to join the frickin' army. As long as he didn't have to deal with her, he was pretty okay with that. Lydia shook her head at that revelation, sitting back in her seat and folding her arms over her chest.
"Seems like it's going to be a nice place to live," her mentor said from the front passenger seat, catching Lydia's detached, sullen expression. The minute their eyes met, Lydia forced a bright and cheerful smile on her face.
"Yeah. A girl could definitely get used to this!" Her mentor grinned, a knowing glint in her eyes, and Lydia averted her gaze back to the lush greenery of the landscape. They seemed to have amazing gardens here and the sunlight was astounding. Lydia liked gardens and lilies were definitely her favorites. Lydia could definitely get used to it here. Finally, the vehicle stopped and Lydia was the first out. Instantly, she smiled at the sun's warmth that seemed to flood through her nerves and into her veins, filling her with a sense of power and light. Yeah, definitely could get used to this.
"Do you have everything you need?" Her father asked and Lydia glanced at him for a second before turning her gaze back to the sun. Almost instantly, however, her head whipped to the left to stare at him again and catch the tail of what was that? Longing? Concern? Regret? Did he actually care about her right now? Lydia's eyes widened.
"Y-yeah...I got everything," she replied dumbly and he nodded before leaving to retrieve her two suitcases. Lydia pulled out the bag that was with her and threw her purse in it. Just as she closed her door, her mentor was in front of her.
"It's going to be alright, sweetie," she said. Lydia shifted her eyes before tossing her hair over her light honey-blonde hair over her shoulder.
"Yeah. I'm leaving all my friends and everything familiar to a mansion where there are other kids like me. Freaks." The older woman winced at the sarcastic bite in Lydia's normally happy voice and sighed. She grabbed Lydia's arm before Lydia could walk away, making the blonde roll her eyes in irritation.
"I didn't do this to punish you for your abilities, Lydia. I'm doing this to help you." Lydia pursed her lips for a moment before returning her gaze to the woman. She looked up to this lady like a daughter would to their mother. Hell, she was practically Lydia's mother. But...she didn't understand and to a certain extent, Lydia didn't understand. She was happy and then she wasn't happy that she was here.
"I know...but that doesn't mean I'm gonna go all High-School-Musical happy for you."
"Lydia, this is a chance for you to start over." If she heard this one more time!
"And that's the thing! I don't want to start over," Lydia cried. Shaking her head as tears of frustration reached her eyes, Lydia took some calming breaths. "I don't know how. And you trying to remind me every second of this drive that I will be doesn't help at all."
They stared at each other for a long time, neither trying to break eye contact. Her mentor because she knew that Lydia was only trying to push her away, to distance herself from the pain of losing a familiar face. And Lydia because...because she didn't want anyone thinking she was in pain. After a beat, her Dad cleared his throat, not very used to the emotionally draining atmosphere. Glaring at her mentor one final time, Lydia turned her head and started walking away.
"We should probably find my room. I definitely wanna explore everything," Lydia exclaimed brightly as she led them to the front doors, ignoring her mentor's concerned look and her father's possibly stoic face. "Besides, I seriously need to change my outfit." And get the hell away from you two, she thought before the doors swung open and a red-skinned lady with horns? Were those really horns? Lydia blinked as she reached the woman, trying to keep the shock off of her face.
"We've been expecting you, Lydia," the woman told her and Lydia nodded like an idiot. "I'm Nadia and I will be escorting you to your room. These must be your parents, I'm guessing?" Lydia's eyes widened and she was pretty sure the two adults with her were just as red as the lady before her at this point.
"N-n-noooo...no, this is my Dad, Frank Bailey. And this is my mentor, Jane Walkers." The adults exchanged pleasantries before Nadia's piercing gaze returned to Lydia. After hesitating for a second, Lydia extended her hand and Nadia shook it with a smile.
"You'll be happy here, Lydia. I can promise you that," she said and Lydia stared at her for a long time, shaking her hand for a moment. That reassurance...it filled her with hope and without trying, Lydia's smile broke through the obvious frown she'd been wearing, teeth and dimples showcasing themselves.
"Thanks." They smiled at each other before Nadia glanced over Lydia's shoulder.
"I can take her things from here. I'm sure you have a long ride ahead of you," Nadia offered and Lydia was not surprised when she felt a handle of her smaller suitcase in her hand and Nadia taking the other one. She turned around slowly and immediately, her mentor engulfed her in a tight, warm hug that Lydia clung to. Reveling in the sweet smell of her perfume, Lydia laid her head on the woman's shoulder and allowed herself to be comforted by the familiarity. Finally, Jane released her and Lydia smiled as the woman retreated.
Her father stood there for the longest time. Lydia couldn't read his face to save her life and although it didn't frighten her or anything, she was left stumped. Did he have something to say? Was he going to complain? She was surprised he hadn't even commented on the odd-looking woman that greeted them. Instead, he turned to Lydia and did the unexpected.
He kissed her forehead!
It was so quick, Lydia almost hadn't caught it. But he had slid his hand through her hair, pulled her to him by the back of her neck, and planted a soft, hardly noticeable kiss on her forehead. He pulled away swiftly and Lydia was left gaping, eyes wide.
"Um...be safe," he said awkwardly before hurrying to his car. Blinking at the absurdity of what had just happened, Lydia glanced back at Nadia to see her smiling still.
"Ready?" Lydia smiled.
"Yeah."

Robbie’s brown eyes slitted sideways. “I swear, if you say anything even as remotely cheerful as that again, I will happily kill you, cut your corpse into tiny little pieces, and dump you in the nearest ocean.”
The large guy occupying the driver’s seat of the car broke out into small chuckles that shook the entirety of his muscular frame. “I’m pretty sure they’d pull you over.”
“Really.”
“Underage, kid. Remember?”
Robbie swore in a way that didn’t exactly acknowledge his status as a minor, and which only made his companion chuckle again. “And you would deface this beautiful car that way?”
Well, Robbie had to give him that one. ‘This beautiful car’ was one of the newer Porsche’s, and it had literally purred when the driver had opened it out on one of the larger roads on the way here.
“And on that topic,” his companion continued merrily, “are you going to hand in those fake ID’s I saw in your case earlier? That’s hardly recommended behaviour for your first day at your new school.”
Robbie rolled his eyes. “Ass. Concentrate on your driving.”
“Ooh, that’s weak.”
Robbie gave up the battle with a roll of his eyes, turning pointedly to stare out of the window and at the mansion as they cruised through the gates. They parked a second later, and Robbie had a moment to stare out at the cheerful children and the evidence of far too much peroxide before stepping out of the car became a necessity.
“So, Frankie and I have taken bets on how long you’re gonna last,” came the next conversational gambit.
“Really,” he repeated icily.
“Yeah. Personally, I’ve gone for two months. He’s been optimistic: put you down for an entire year.”
“Two months. You think I’ll last two months before doing a runner.”
“No. I think you’ll last two months before they kick you out.”
“You know I do actually own a duffle bag, just your size?”
“And I’m the one with the money, so I think we’re square.”
“See you Saturday. You’re buying.”
“Yeah. Later, kid.”
As Robbie wrenched his embarrassingly small bag out of the boot, the car screeched off with a goodly amount of unnecessary tire spin. Robbie lifted his hand in a wave, and tried not to feel as if he was strolling onto Death Row.
Then Nadia approached, and Robbie greeted her awkwardly. However, the necessity for conversation was immediately, and thankfully, erased before Robbie could feel even worse than before: the woman could seriously talk.
Ground, swallow me now.

Katherine huffed out an annoyed breath, "I doubt you'll be worried." It was quiet enough for her parents not to hear, but Noah's sharp ears picked it up. "Aww come on sis, you know mom loves you too." He responded cheerfully, his bright yellow wings folded against his back. "Not as much as you..." She grumbled to herself so not even Noah could hear.
"We must be off. Come on Kathy, lets get going! Bye Mom and Dad!" Noah's tone was happy, as he turned and took off, his wings beating powerfully as he disappeared from sight. "Glad he's gone..." That time, Katherine said it a bit loud. Her mother looked at her with a look of disapproval and Katherine just turned her nose up at her. She sighed. "Bye sweety." Her mother responded, the only emotion that lingered in her voice was sorrow. Katherine watched her walk back into their house with her father, who didn't even say goodbye. She wanted to cry. Her parents only cared about Noah. But she will not cry. It goes against everything she lives for. So Katherine just jumped and rocketed into the air, the only thing she had with her was a backpack. A small, almost nonexistent tear slid down her cheek, and landed God knows where.
The flight was grueling. From Miami at least. She was flying because the last time she had to go on a long car trip she blew up the car. Too confined. Too slow. Too nausiating. Of course it would only take the amout of time to get to the school from Miami as a jet would, but she was only human... well... part human. So she had to take at least two days to rest.
When the vast mansion came into sight, Katherine wasn't too suprised. You need lots of space to hold all of those freaks... but I still can't forget that fact that I'm concidered one of them. She sighed. Katherine had been flying for at least the past four hours, so she knew her landing wasn't going to be smooth. Her legs were pretty much numb. "Here we go!" She said to herself, just for motivation. Her wing beats were short and she began slowly bringing them back. The ground began rising at a rather alarming rate, and it the last second, she bent her knees. She covered her head as she was forced into a tuck and role. She stopped on her back, limbs sprawled every where, the world spinning.
"So much for an entrance." Katherine muttered to herself. She jerked her wings towards her back, folding them up just before someone stepped on them. She stood up, and rolled her neck and arms. She took some tentative steps, and some sharp pains spiked up her leg when she put pressure on her left foot, but nothing she couldn't handle. Hastily dusting herself off, Katherine took a look around the courtyard. There are so many people... How in Hell does my mother expect me to live here?! I could already feel the disappointment coming from them. Katherine sat under a tree, watching other people walk by. She rubbed her ankle gently, in hopes on loosening the muscles a bit to lessen the pain. Her wings dropped with exaustion.

Breathing in the chilled air from the AC, Alex glanced out the window as the large mansion came into his vision, unable to mask the emotion of surprise. Though he had grown up in a gigantic house himself, this in no way compared to the incredible building that stood before him, and though he had been to the school before, it still seemed unbelievably huge. The car came to a stop in the front, Alex feeling the eyes of the driver on him in the mirror. "Are you ready?" he asked, though the look of hate Alex gave him must've been enough to answer him, because he then got out of the car and opened the door for him. He couldn't blame the driver for the situation he was in, but the fact that his father didn't care enough to go out of his way to take him to school, or to even say good bye before, made him angry. But not enough for his powers to act up- at least not with the AC on full blast and the driver cooing him to drink ice water every few minutes.
Taking a sigh, he exited the door the driver was holding open, taking a happy breath of the clean, fresh air. Glancing at the familiar campus, he stretched, cracking his back, then made his way to the boot of the limo, the top already popped. His father had brought him here multiple times to get him used to it, hoping that when he was to come here, instead of focusing on touring and exploring, he would focus on his studies. Alex took his duffle from the car, the one with clothing in it, then slung his backpack over his shoulder, before grabbing the two instrument cases tucked next to them. A bass and a guitar, along with a ukulele tucked in his backpack. Though he hated showing off the fact that his family was wealthy, the times when it served him well were when it came to music. "Your amps have been sent to your room already," the driver said, Alex just waving him off and stepping away from the car, turning towards the school.
Alex headed to the building, seeing the girl he recognized as Nadia talking to a boy who more or less looked like he'd rather be dead. Time to save the day, he thought, picking up his pace and walking over to him, putting on his friendliest smile and putting his guitars on the ground, sticking his hand out to Nadia. "Hi. I'm Alex, a new student." He said, glancing at the boy next to him as if to say you're welcome, but in a friendly way. He turned back to the girl, pretending to be interested in talking to her.

He had gotten a taxi from the airport, he had used the last bit of money he had saved for the plane ticket and had only twenty dollars left on him to pay for the cab. He was desperately hoping that it would be enough. Having to act like a young street kid by skipping out on a cab fair was not the impression he wanted to make.
His palms were sweating as he ran his fingers through his hair one last time, staring at his sapphire eyes in the mirror, making sure every last strand fell perfectly. After all, this was the make it or break it point. Either he strides in their, looking his best and people take notice, or he’ll just blend into the background and become forgotten. Or worse, they may not like him at all.
For all of his worrying, it was most likely displaced. Just get it together and calm down, you know you’ll be fine. You’ve smooth talked your way out of dozens of sticky situations where the alternative was a fight at gun or knife point, these privileged kids should be a no brainer. Well, in truth he didn’t know if these kids were privileged, but to him a kid that grew up with a reliable bed to sleep in was better off than he was.
He looked down at his small beat up backpack which contained what little clothes he had with him. He couldn’t wait to get a job and buy new clothes, nice clothes. With how well-off this mansion looked in the picture, he was hoping that maybe they would provide him with money for shopping, but anything was better than what he had now. He was wearing a faded grey long sleeve shirt that was two sizes too tight, it hugged his torso, albeit maybe a little too tightly. He had slim fitting jeans on with rips that he had put in himself, and classic black Converse sneakers. He looked…normal at least. Which was for from how he actually felt.
The cab finally began its way up the long driveway, and Dom stared in awe at the majesty of the mansion that stood before him. He could make out a few other kids making their way through the front entrance. The cab slowed to a halt and the cabbie turned around to face Dom. “Nineteen seventy-two please,” he said in very thick Spanish accent. Dom sighed in relief and pulled the battered twenty dollar bill from his pocket and handed it to the cabbie.
“Keep the change.” With that, Dom exited as quickly as possible, before the man could complain about his twenty-eight cent tip. He stood staring for a moment, adjusting himself to the magnificence that was his new home. This is it, give them hell.
The main entrance doors were wide open, and he strode through with confidence. A mutant quickly came up to him, she had an intimidating appearance with red skin and horns, but this didn’t phase Dom in the least, he had once fought a mutant that was scaled like a lizard and could camouflage himself. “Hi there! I’m Nadia, you must be a new student. Let me help you with your bags!”
Dom just hoisted his backpack upon his shoulder, nervously. “No thanks, this is all I have. I’m Dom. If you don’t mind, I’m just going to mingle a bit.”
“Not at all, let me know if you need anything!”
Dom pushed further into the foyer. He noticed a few teens around him. He was trying to see which ones noticed him. Preferring to draw someone in, he locked eyes with a blonde girl from across the room. It was only for a split second, but that was enough for him. He strode up to her, leaned against the wall next to her and said, “Hi, I’m Dom.”

Once she was gone, Sophia gave Nadia a questioning look. "Oh don't worry about her, she's just the moody type." she said with a laugh. "You'll love your room, it's not very big, but it has a great view of the lake." Nadia said, clapping her hands together. This thought cheered Sophia up considerably. Nadia talked the rest of the way to Sophia's room which wasn't that much farther away. Inside it was a little small, but it didn't feel cramped to Sophia. She asked a few questions about where the bathrooms were and where she would shower and Nadia responded kindly to them all. She mentioned that they would be having a small get together brunch for the new students to meet and mingle. "It's going to start pretty soon, so we should get going!" Sophia left her bags on the bed and followed Nadia downstairs to they foyer.
Once there, she could see that other students had begun to show up, and that there were more Nadia's than just the one who had been escorting her. She looked at the one standing next to her and began to speak. "Is tha-" but she was cut off as Nadia spoke. "Yeah, yeah, I know there are like four of me, but that's normal here." she said and the other Nadia's walked over to her. Once they touched her, they all phased back leaving only one Nadia. "Now," she said, announcing herself to the room as a whole. "Let's do a head count." She ticked off everyone on her fingers and gasped. "Oh, we're missing one, hold on." she said as another Nadia seemed to step from her skin. This new Nadia went in search of the missing member who was sitting in the gardens. "So, while we wait, how about everybody just introduce themselves to one another." She said and smiled.
Sophia was hesitant at first, but could see other people spreading out and didn't want to feel like the odd one out. She glanced to her left and saw a guy standing there with a guitar case next to him.She quickly took her chance and walked over to him. "Hi, I'm Sophia." she said holding out her hand for him to shake. She then remembered the incident earlier when Liz didn't want others to touch her. She figured this had something to do with her ability and didn't want to seem insensitive in case this boy had a skin-related power so she let her hand fall awkwardly back to her side.

She had just finished decorating her room as she saw fit, loving being able to be alone. As much as she loved people, she actually preferred being alone sometimes. Having a roommate was...stressful. Lydia wasn't good with handling stress. Bad things happened when she was stressed...like blinding two of her best friends. Not even here for an hour and I'm already depressing myself, she thought with a sigh and pulled out her cell. Speaking of best friends, she hadn't even contacted any of them.
"Hey, hon," Lydia chirped happily in the phone. Their conversation ended up going on and on about nothing and everything. Cynthia was telling her all about her last shopping trip and surprising run-in with none other than Vanessa Hudgens. Vanessa-freakin-Hudgens! Lydia almost squealed at that point. Cynthia's parents had taken her to California and judging from the excited chatter, Cynthia was having a blast. And Lydia couldn't be happier for her. Just as the conversatio continued, Nadia started talking and Lydia had to shush her companion, trying to hear what Nadia had to say.
"So, while we wait, how about everybody just introduce themselves to one another." Nadia announced and one of her headed out to find that missing person she spoke of. Lydia sighed and ran her gaze over the room, peering through the throng of new classmates and hopeful friends in search of one particular person to start a conversation with. Just as she was about to simply force her way into the crowd, a very tall - or at least all from Lydia's perspective - guy with deep blue eyes locked gazes with her. It was a fleeting moment and Lydia immediately went back to her phone conversation. But then stranger-guy walked over to her and leaned against the wall beside her.
"Hi, I'm Dom." He greeted her.
"Hey, CeCe! I'm gonna have to call you back," she said and hung up before her friend could reply. Hiding her cell away, Lydia's eyes flicked back to his clear, sapphire ones and she gave him a bright smile. "I'm Lydia. Nice to meet you."

The song was on loop, and she had listened to if about five times, when she felt someone tap her shoulder. Without even opening her eyes, she pulled one bud out of her ear and asked with an attitude, "What?" She could tell the person who had interrupted her was not taken aback at all. "We're having a get together for all the students," The voice was defiantly female. Katherine groaned as she pulled to other bud out of her ear, and opened her eyes. She was quite surprised by the face that she was talking to someone who could be the devil's female counter part. "Do I have to?" Katherine asked with an annoyed tone and she tilted her head to the side in a very bird like manner. "Well, technically, ya. But its better if you came. You can meet new people and make new friends." Katherine huffed out a breath as she shoved her ipod into her bag. Before pulling it over her shoulder she took off her sweat shirt and wrapper it around her waist, revealing her army green tank top. Grabbing her back pack, she nodded to the devil woman to start leading her to where the sutdents were. Not like she didn't know already. She could hear all of them. Its sounded like a swarm of bees. Annoying.
"I'm Nadia by the way," the woman spoke breaking the silence in between. "Ya. I'm Katherine," She replied as she was walking through the halls. She noticed Nadia had a tone in her voice indicating she was the always happy kind of person. Those people annoy the crap out of Katherine. When they entered the room where are the students were, Katherine was taken aback. So many freaks in one place... I wouldn't be surprised if the building was no longer standing after the first week... She though to herself with a light snicker. "If you have any questions or problems, you can talk with me ok?" Nadia said nicely. "Ya, sure whatever." Katherine replied half heartedly. Nadia walked off to started the meeting, and Katherine wasn't one to 'mingle.' So she stood on the outside of the room, leaning against a wall, one leg crossed over the other, looking bored and unamused.

Nodding to Nadia as she spoke quickly words of welcome, telling him where his room was, and of where many things in the building were. He nodded politely, putting a sweet and genuine looking smile on his face, the type that he was used to projecting for his dads friends. He glanced at the boy next to him, and as Nadia disappeared, forming into another version of herself, he turned away slightly, not necessarily feeling a friendly side from the boy. he smiled to himself, knowing that there was no need for Nadia to have spent minutes explaining the structure he was now standing with. He had not only had multiple tours and maze trips through the building, but had been forced to study the blue prints and layouts for weeks before finally being able to attend this school. His dad had people to quiz him about random facts of each teacher and on the school, he wanted him as knowledgeable as could be, and he sure was.
He looked at the ceiling, the architecture reminding him of the name of the designer, builders, constructers, flowing into his head. The style of the building, and the year it was finished. The facts floated into his head, spinning around, almost overwhelmingly so.
He was drawn out of his factual mind dispute by the voice of Nadia, the sole Nadia, speaking. Insisting they introduce themselves, Alex shifted in his place, the guitar cases growing heavy in his limp arms. Glancing around, hoping to find someone to speak with, he was happy to be approached by a girl, a pretty one at that, introducing herself. She stuck out her hand, and he instantly put down the guitar cases, though by the time he had raised them, she had lowered her hand. He smiled friendly-ly at him, sticking out his hand to meet hers. If she didn't have a power that would effect him, if she was willing to shake his hand, he didn't care. He was fine with it. The only strange, noticeable thing about him was that he was warm, or hot, compared to others, though never sweaty. A perk of being the hottest thing around, he didn't sweat.
"I'm Alex."

While Lydia was telling him about her friend CeCe that had just gone to California and her sighting of Vanessa Hudgens, Dom took the opportunity to survey the other kids in the room. After Nadia had announced for them to mingle, they had mostly split off into little groups, or to be alone if they were the anti-social type.
He spotted one odd looking boy sitting by himself, he had his nose buried in a book. Another girl with brown hair and a bored look on her face was leaning up against the wall opposite him. He could tell she didn’t really want to be here, and surmised that saying hi would probably change that look of boredom into one of contempt.
There was another boy who looked his age, maybe a little younger talking with another brunette. He carried with him a guitar case. Before the girl had walked over he seemed to be lost in thought. It was the same look that Dom got when sizing up his opponent, one of analytic inquisition. It was odd to see it outside of a fight, Dom’s arms tensed in reflex, but he quickly shrugged it off.
One last boy who was a little paler and skinnier was off to their side. He looked just as foreboding as the brown haired girl, but with less anger in his eyes. Dom was wondering what powers everyone had. He always thought you could tell a lot from a mutant’s personality based on their gifts.
One of the Nadia’s was walking into the kitchen, and Dom could make out another female figure, with….purple hair? Not something he found very appealing.
He turned his attention back to Lydia, who was still gabbing on and on. But Dom really didn’t mind. Her voice was sweet, not annoying and conceded like you would expect from a girl of Lydia’s beauty.
A lull seemed to form in the conversation, so Dom flashed her a smile and thought he would ask the only question that was on his mind, “So, what kind of powers do you have?”

With a sigh she pulled her hood up over her head and left the group, walking away from the building and into the gardens. There was a small pond with benches and hedges around it that was peaceful and away from the world. Liz sat down on one of the benches to watch the small ripples in the pond from the wind. She needed more coffee, but Nadia had said she would simply drag her out of the kitchen if she went back in there.
"Why are you so determined to be alone?"
Speak of the devil. Funny considering the color of the woman's skin. Nadia sat down next to her...well one of the Nadia clones.
"Hey. Sorry I was getting paranoid in there."
"Yeah I could tell when I saw you leave. You really should try at least to make a friend."
"Nadia....friends cause emotions. And emotions are bad. You know this so why do you push it so much?"
There was a small pause as the woman considered the question. "Because you need someone Elizabeth. You need a friend, or a companion. You can't go through life on your own, no matter how...old you get."
Interesting way to say it. She sighed and nodded. "Fine. I'll go back in there. But I won't approach anyone, just watch. And I want to get another cup of coffee."
Nadia smiled at her. "That's alright, I just want you to be around people, people like you."
They walked in silence back to the gathering of people and Nadia took off to talk to people. Liz just rolled her eyes with a smile and headed to the kitchen to get more coffee. She was bordering on having an addiction. Once she had her coffee she made it back out to sit on a chair at the edge of the group. Sipping her drink and watching the other students wearily.

So, after awhile of being the only one talking(mainly because she was pretty sure she hadn't even given him the time to talk other than when she asked small questions that required very little in responses), Lydia paused and bit her lower lip. What was it that someone called her at one point? A prissy, neurotic, and a control freak that never knows how to shut up? Wasn't the whole point of starting over to not be that girl?
So, she shut up. And that kinda left a bitter taste in her mouth and an awkward pause in the atmosphere between the two of them. She found herself wringing her hands together and running her eyes over the room, smiling at a few of the people she managed to catch eyes with. Her eyes fell on the pale, skinny guy that seemed stand-offish. Lydia tilted her head slightly at him as he seemed to either not notice her staring or ignored her completely. Either way, she was actually a tad bit intrigued for some odd reason and didn't like to see him so alone.
"So, what kind of powers do you have?" Dom's masculine voice had a surprisingly deep tone that sent chills down her spine and tore Lydia from her staring at the pale-guy. She quickly met Dom's gaze with a smile before the question actually reached her ears. Then her smile gradually thinned out and Lydia found herself biting her lower lip again.
"Heehee...it should be talking so much seeing how that's all I do," she replied with a nervous giggle. But Dom's stance was persistent and she knew she needed to answer the question. And actually saying her power out loud sounded...stupid. It was something out of a children's book or one of those corny pick-up lines this guy used at her school. You look like something the sun spit out, she recalled before deciding to answer. "Sunlight. I can manipulate sunlight. And...if I channel it, I can burn you with it."

Robbie wasn’t a stranger to violent urges. He saw ghosts every day, had been privy to every little emotion under the sun, and that was bound to have an affect. Last time he’d been to a graveyard he’d thrown up for hours afterwards, clinging to the toilet in his friend’s flat and contemplating suicide. Said friend had later cuffed him to a pipe to keep him in place then set up his favourite movie in front of him until he’d recovered.
One of the many debts I will never pay.
And then just as it was really beginning to get desperate, some other guy that he definitely didn’t recognise – Robbie had a good memory for faces – turned up beside him and introduced himself to Robbie’s cheerful tour guide, thus utterly claiming her attention. Robbie was immediately jealous by the obvious indicators of money, but the kid had just saved him from committing a homicide, so he merely nodded when the boy glanced at him.
He’s probably got enough cash to buy one of those cars. If he does, I’ll have to steal it from him. For his own good, of course. Removing temptation.
Then Miss. Cheerful dragged them off to some kind of obscure meet-and-greet thing, and Robbie immediately looked for two things. 1) The exit, and 2) Booze. He could be interestingly focused when he wanted to be.
Introduce myself? I would rather die. Hello, Alcoholics Anonymous. So Robbie cut to the side of the growing gathering, picked a stretch of wall, and leaned back against it. The only plus side that Robbie could see so far – and he wasn’t entirely pessimistic, he did get the concept of plus sides, was that he hadn’t seen any ghosts.

"Are you all right? Your skin is burning up. Do you have a fever?" She quickly pulled her hand from his. Heat was something she had never favored and didn't want to have skin contact with him any longer. She also feared that whatever he had would be contagious and she really didn't want to get sick during her first day. She peered closer at him, he didn't appear to have the feverish eyes. The only thing that was off was the heat that seemed to radiate from him. "Maybe you should go lay down. Do you know what your room number is? I'll help you get there if you need me to" She stopped talking, thinking she sounded a lot like Nadia.

Dom wasn't the least bit surprised by her response. He was right, you CAN tell a lot about a person's personality based on their ability. But what does that say about me if I've only ever used my gift to hurt others...? Dom didn't ponder that thought much. It wasn't something he wanted to carry with him in this new life.
Dom shifted his weight off the wall and looked more directly into Lydia's eyes, blue as well, but not as deep a blue as his own, it had an added serenity about it Dom liked them a lot. With a huge grin he said, “That doesn't surprise me one bit, it completely suits you, you certainly light up a room full of kids who are mostly off in their corners like they were put in time-out.” Dom ended the last part with a small chuckle. He had hoped Lydia found that flirtatious enough. Dom thought that flattery was the best policy for Lydia.
But, he had noticed how she was also surveying the room as they spoke, and her eyes lingered on the pale boy that was alone. No one came here to be alone. Everyone was so segregated. Only one other conversation was taking place, and that was between the more petite brunette and the kid with the guitar case.
Dom knew what it was like to be alone, he had been for most of his life. But, he also knew that this wasn't the time or place to embrace that fact. Dom caught the attention of the Nadia coming back in from the kitchen, “Hey Nadia.”
“Oh hi Dom. I see you're not shy,” she said with a slight head nod towards Lydia.
Dom ignored her little innuendo, but he was almost entirely sure Lydia saw it. “I was thinking maybe it's a good idea if we could go around and show everyone else our gifts. It might be better to get to know everyone that way. It doesn't seem like socializing is everyone's forte, and we did come here to learn more about people like us.”
Nadia lit up at the idea. It seemed she may have been searching for a solution to this lifeless gathering. Nadia turned to the room and said, “Everyone, gather 'round. We're gonna have a little demonstration from Dom on what he can do.”
Everyone was staring at him now. Oh boy, what did you just get yourself into? This isn't exactly what I had in mind Nadia....But oh well, like I said, give 'em hell.
“Hi everyone, I'm Dominic, but ahh, call me Dom. Okay...” Dom gave one last little smile out of the corner of his mouth and walked away from Lydia, into the center of the room. Wait, what am I gonna do? I can't very well just punch the floor and make a crater in here. Guess I'll just have to make something float in front of me, I don't want to try anything else again, I don't want to faint.
Everyone was waiting. He turned around to look at Lydia, it made him feel more comfortable when addressing the crowd. He put his backpack down and said, “I'll need a volunteer.”

They weren't.
Trying to ignore the piercing stare Dom had given her, Lydia turned her attention to the room again and slipped her dainty hands into her back pockets. Just as she was about to ask Dom about his mutation, Nadia emerged from the kitchen with a warm, bright smile in their direction.
"Hey, Nadia," Dom exclaimed and Nadia stared at them knowingly.
"Oh, hey Dom! I see you're not shy." Instantly, Lydia's blush returned and deepened, forcing her to turn her head in embarrassment. But Dom didn't seem embarrassed at all; he was actually unaffected.
"I was thinking maybe its a good idea if we go around show everyone else our gifts. It might be better to get to know each other that way. It doesn't seem like socializing is everyone's forte and we did come here to learn about people like us." That was a true. And it might be effective. There were so many people yet no one really wanted to be that one starting a conversation. And Nadia seemed to agree.
"Everyone, gather 'round. We're gonna have a little demonstration from Dom on what he could do." But Lydia was sure having attention on him was not his idea and felt bad for the guy as he approached the center of the packed room. Her eyes scanned the wary, nervous faces of her peers before her eyes fell on Dom once more.
"Hi, everyone, I'm Dominic, but ahh, call me Dom. Okay." Lydia bit her lip at his anxiety, a small smile forming. No one wanted to be the first for anything. That was just human nature at this point. But then Dom's eyes met hers and she felt her smile grow, hoping that she could be some kind of support. "I'll need a volunteer." No one moved and Lydia sighed.
"Sure," she replied with a shrug. "Why not?"

"Sure, why not?" Dom sighed in relief and smiled as she walked forward.
“Okay, just relax and don't move, this won't hurt a bit.” Lydia looked slightly nervous, having no idea what Dom was about to do to her. Dom actually noticed that her weight began to shift to one side, and her front foot lifted the sole every so slightly off the ground, as it to dictate that if Dom was going to try and harm her, he had quite another thing coming. It was a reflex any fighter would have. Dom knew he liked her for a reason.
Dom took a deep breath and raised both his hands outwards, palms facing Lydia. He put all of his focus into his power, willing gravity to dissipate in the area around Lydia. And with that, ever so gently, Lydia lifted from the ground.
At first she was startled, her face a look of sudden shock, but after a few seconds she realized what was happening and the look on her face changed into a gleeful smile. Who wouldn't love the chance to experience zero gravity?
Dom would have laughed and smiled back, but all of his concentration was going into keeping her suspended. He could feel the familiar fatigue begin to creep up on him, and a bead of sweat began to trickle down his face. Letting Lydia float too high up could be dangerous too, once gravity returned she'd fall right back down. Dom couldn't ease gravity back, it was either there or it wasn't.
Dom flashed his eyes up to Lydia's, she was about four feet off the ground now. Lydia saw, and stopped smiling long enough to know what he was going to do. Dom let gravity return to normal with a loud exhale of exhaustion and Lydia landed gracefully back on solid ground.
No one moved as Dom was trying to catch his breath. He felt dizzy but he refused to show too much weakness in front of everyone. “That takes a lot out of me but it's the most fancy thing I can do. I can also intensify gravity on my body and force it outwards, but I wouldn't wanna make Lydia a pancake.
“So, who's next?”

I guess it can't hurt...
Vincent rose from his seat and moved over to the group of students that were gathered around this 'Dom' to watch him show off by levitating some blonde girl. Levitation huh? That's pretty impressive, lifting that girl up like that.
Nothing was going to make him show his powers off to the people here, Vince crossed his arms over his chest and watched on; wondering who was going to show off next. If nothing else, it was interesting to see what powers the other mutants here had. He'd really had nothing to do with other mutants before, not that he'd known about.

Alex smiled lightly when the girl pulled her hand away, shaking his head as she went on a ramble of how he might be sick and what he should do. "No-No Sophia it's part of my power." He said, running a hand through his hair. "I'm not sick." He chuckled, opening his mouth to say more, but then turning as Nadia gathered the group together. A boy was ready to show off his power. He watched, interested, as he lifted the girl up, but it wasn't the girl he watched. He instead watched the boy, and the effect and drain that using his power seemed to have on him. Behind him, he heard a girl muttering things, and didn't look back, giving her the attention she probably wanted.
As he let the girl down, Alex could see sweat trickling down the boys face. Incredible, he thought, glancing around for the next person to show their power. It's not that he didn't want to, but he didn't want to be the next to go. He looked at the girl who had been talking to the gravity boy, and who had volunteered. She looked nice enough that her power probably didn't involve doing something that could hurt someone. "Why don't you go next, sunshine?" He said, in a friendly way, not knowing how correct his words would be.

Finally, when her feet were on the ground, Lydia grinned at Dom more. She heard a few people snickering about something, but was hardly paying them any attention. Until one of the guys said something.
"Why don't you go next, sunshine?" She heard him ask and she glanced his way for a moment. Why he was able to know exactly what her powers were was beyong Lydia. But she was already in the center of the room...so why not? Try not to blind someone, Lydia, she told herself mentally.
"Umm...sure," she replied with a slight nod. "For the record, you were actually kinda right...about calling me sunshine. My power is that I can harness sunlight. I can blind each and every last one of you just be activating my powers." Closing her eyes for a moment, Lydia felt her power come alive and warmth filled her veins. Her skin grew pale, almost transluscent and her hair lightened immensely, billowing around her. When she opened her eyes, she revealed ligth gray eyes and Lydia smiled brightly, holding up her palms to reveal identical orbs of sunlight. "These can burn you if I throw them...kinda like fire."
Before long, she relaxed herself and the light within her faded, the sunlight in her hands disappearing. Her hair went back to normal and fell down her back in somewhat tousled waves and the color returned to her skin. Blue-gray eyes twinkled as she shrugged.
"It's not much of anything...and it's pretty useless at night unless you need a human flashlight," she told everyone. Then she turned her eyes back to Alex with a challenging glint in her eyes. "Why don't you show us something, Hot Shot?"
