Jason and Lauren LeGrand

"To create a safer world, we did something awful."

0 · 317 views · located in Marvel Universe

a character in “X-men: Xavier and Magneto Unite”, as played by XShishioX

Description

Civilian Name(s): Jason and Lauren Legrand

Age(s): Jason, Ryan's Father is 40, his mother, Lauren, is 37.

Occupation(s): Mutant Regulation Officers. Jason and his wife Moira are chair holding members of the Mutant Regulation Offices as well as members of the Council of Mutant Affairs. They hold a negative/neutral stance on Mutants. If Hank McCoy (Codename: Beast) could be considered the "Gas" for pro-mutant rights, Jason and Moira could be considered the "Careful Brakes". Since their son was sent to Charles's School for Gifted Youngsters, they;ve taken a much more neutral stance in dealing with Mutants, however, their ultimate goal is simply the preservation of Homo Sapiens as a species. They are by no means avid mutant haters, however, they are cautious when it comes to mutants. Their argument is simply that life cannot be equal and fair if some men are born with the power to read minds or destroy buildings at will. They represent the careful and cautious nature of Humanity in its dealings with Homo Sapiens Superiors nothing more, nothing less.

Alliance: Government

Appearance(s): Jason and his wife look exactly as you'd expect government officials to look. They're a well dressed, middle-aged, and pleasant enough couple. They are passive carriers of the X-gene, showing no mutations themselves, but being ultimately responsible for Ryan's status as a mutant.

Image

Jason appears just a bit older than he is, his salt and pepper hair giving him an air of wisdom. What hair isn't greying is very dark and compliments his deep brown eyes. He has sharp, though not angular, features that are easy to see in his son, Ryan. He is a taller man, just over six feet tall, and is in very good shape for his age, weighing roughly 220 lbs. He has large hands, worn from his hobbies of working out and tinkering in his garage. Before going to school for politics, Jason was going to school to be an engineer. He enjoys working with his hands, and often makes little contraptions that will hold a door open, or get the mail.

Image

Lauren, on the other hand, appears young for her age, often causing joking comments about Jason's taste in women. She has blond hair and is the one who gave Ryan his bright green eyes. She is a very attractive woman, but dressed modestly so as to keep professional in her government job. She's a tall woman, just shorter than her husband, even without heels. When not working, she dresses mostly in fashion, like a stereotypical mom of the period.

Personality/(ies): Jason is very practical and level headed. He has a few odd quirks, but behaves generally how you'd expect him to. He's stoic, soft-spoken, smart, just a little funny, and very clever. He enjoys cooking, he had to mostly out of necessity, but now finds it soothing. Heaven help us should Ryan's mother ever get herself anywhere near the kitchen. As stated before he likes to tinker in the garage as well as solve puzzles, as at heart he's a total egghead.

Lauren is quite the opposite. Though she keeps herself professional and calm at work, the second she leaves she's a very passionate woman. She loves to talk about anything that sparks her fancy and thoroughly enjoys a great many things. Despite her apparent air-headed appearance, Lauren has a keen wit and a sharp eye. Not much gets past her, and nothing goes without some form of criticism. She thoroughly enjoys painting, and is probably where Ryan got his artistic tendencies from. She has a studio right outside of Ryan's old room and uses it quite frequently.

History: Jason and Lauren met in college and fell in love as soon as they laid eyes on each other. They lived in very different worlds beforehand, Jason having lived in a more suburban town while Lauren was born and raised in a bustling city. They were married shortly after gaining their masters degrees and moved into Lauren's place close to D.C. They were good and settled into their jobs and new life when Ryan was born. He was perfect. He was a beautiful baby boy with his father's nose and and his mother's eyes and dimpled smile. As Ryan grew, they began moving much more viciously to legalize Mutant registration acts and create a "safer" world for their son. Much to their own surprise, Ryan was diagnosed a mutant at his sixth birthday. After pushing so hard for the anti-mutant legislature, having a mutant son destroyed their entire outlook. They moved to repeal their heinous laws, but couldn't overlook the fact that their son was a mutant. He was immediately sent to Doctor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. The move destroyed his parents. Though they were needed as a brake for Hank McCoy's aggressive Pro-Mutant legislature, they were internally torn on opposing him. How could they? Why weren't they pushing for a world in which their son could enjoy every liberty they possessed. Unfortunately, they still believe, and will continue to believe, in their policies. As much as they loved their son, they needed to create a world in which humans could stand equally with Mutants.

As time passed, they began to pester their colleague, Secretary McCoy, into visiting the School for them. Getting him to nonchalantly take pictures with Ryan so they could see how he was doing. They created a massive scrapbook of pictures of Ryan, complete with all of his achievements and big birthdays. Though they felt they couldn't rightly look their son in the eye after what they'd done to him, they felt a semblance of closeness with him. Though they weren't really there with him, they could still see how he was doing. Finally, after Hank refused to visit after the Juggernaut event, during which they saw him carrying a girl on his back through the city, unable to be caught by the police who came to round up whatever mutants were left after the scuffle, they knew they needed to act. Under the guise of speaking with Professor Xavier about the public's reaction to his actions, they decided to visit the school to see Ryan.

Other information: Jason and Lauren live in an upscale studio apartment in Washington D.C. Though they had planned to move out when RYan got older, so he could have a real room and a backyard to play in. As it is, they've decided to stay, their job demands a decent proximity to the Capital and it is slowly taking over their lives. They hope to, eventually, move out and retire to a house of their own somewhere in the midwest, away from all the turmoil in D.C.

So begins...

Ryan LeGrand

Ryan was having a wonderful day. Jean was back! He'd spent part of his day with her, just talking about things she'd been up to, places she'd been, if she'd missed him, and of course, even as embarrassed as he was, Ryan asked Jean if she had any advice for him whatsoever concerning his affections for one of the students at the School. Jean had practically raised Ryan, who'd come to the Mansion when he was only six years old. She had filled a hole in his life that only a mother could, and Ryan loved her as strongly and loyally as any boy would love his own mother. However, Scott had wanted to see her, and Ryan had grudgingly let the man take his mother from him. He understood though. Scott had missed her just as much as he had. They deserved time.

Ryan's tail bobbed as he walked. His toothy, white grin was plastered across his face, and he was so happy. He hadn't had a day like this for a long time. Jean's departure had been just as hard for Ryan as it had been for Logan and Scott, though Ryan didn't know why at the time. Though the two men had watched someone they loved very much walk away from them, Ryan had watched his mother leave him. It had been like his parents left him all over again. Ryan had cried for days after she left. Ryan pushed the sad thoughts from his head. She was back now, and his family was whole once more.

Though he appeared to have no destination in mind, Ryan was heading down to the Courtyard. He had a session with Vincent tomorrow and was planning on making the most of his new ability to change his appearance. He figured, since Vincent was such an integral part of the process, that the ability had something to do with his own mental state. Though Ryan wondered why that might be, He couldn't always have Vincent with him. So, the Courtyard was the perfect place to practice changing back and forth. It was mostly quiet there, the gentle ambience of the breeze in the trees, the fountain's water splashing, and the twittering of birds and other animals had always soothed Ryan like nothing else could. He chuckled, "The bare necessities, eh?" He really was an animal.

After a short while, Ryan entered the courtyard. He began by sitting next to the fountain and began concentrating. He remembered the time with Vincent, with the mirror. His face had been so shocking after years of horns, sharp teeth, scales, and claws, but Ryan wanted to remember it. He needed it more than anything he'd ever felt he'd wanted, even more than seeing his parents again. Ryan focused with all his might on the way he used to look. He focused on how happy it would make him to be able to go out in public with his family and friends at the Mansion. A tear came to Ryan's eyes as he imagined going out with his parents. The way they used to before he left. He imagined what it might be like to go on a date with someone who really loved him.

Slowly, Ryan's body began to change. It hurt at first, like it had the last time he'd forcibly changed his appearance on his own. This time, however, he was going in the opposite direction. Ryan dared not look or he'd lose his focus, but he could feel it working. He felt his horns begin to shrink. His scales slowly sunk into his body. His teeth and claws dulled and became normal, human fingers and teeth. His tail withered away and when he opened his eyes, Ryan smiled. He dashed over to the fountain and the sight that awaited him brought tears to his eyes. He'd done it. His ears were still a little pointed, but otherwise he was him once again. Ryan's skin was white, his hair was a soft black, his eyes were the sparkling green he remembered. Ryan had done it.

Ryan felt happier than he had ever felt before, he jumped into the air and ran around in a circle. He danced and whooped with joy. He laughed like a child as he ran into the Mansion, heading towards Dr. Xavier's office. He wanted to show the man who raised him, his acting father, what he'd done. However, when he got there, Ryan stopped. He couldn't quite hear what they were saying, but there were definitely people in there with Dr. Xavier. So Ryan patiently waited on the bench outside his office. He couldn't wait to show his improvements to the professor.

Jason and Lauren LeGrand

Jason and Lauren LeGrand where driving. They weren't talking about how their day had went, they weren't listening to the radio, or singing along to one of their favorite songs, they were simply driving. Further, they were headed somewhere they hadn't been in a long time. A place that was surely filled with bad memories. After a long discussion, prodded heavily by their colleague Hank McCoy, they had decided to make the trip to Dr. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Though they were happy the H.M.R. had just gotten through, what they thought was the climax of their campaign against Mutant-kind, they still felt anxious. How could they approve such a law? How could they make a world for their son that made him out to be the villain. If he was anything like his father, he was a just, kind, level-headed, and loyal boy. If he was anything like his mother, Ryan was a passionate, fiery, fair, and brilliant child. How could they push him down? How could they call themselves parents and continue to allow the H.M.R. to pass such laws if it meant their own son couldn't enjoy the basic rights guaranteed to all by the United States' Constitution? Something needed to be done, something needed to change. However, before that could take place, they needed to see him. They needed to see Ryan with their own eyes, they needed to hear his voice, the touch him with their own hands. Further, they needed to talk with Dr. Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. After the Juggernaut incident, the government was, essentially, having a fit. People were going crazy, people were scared. That fear was the only reason that the H.M.R. had managed to get their legislature through. Mutant-Human Relations needed to be ironed out, and there was no better way to do it than by talking to the man who'd started it all.

"Jason..." Lauren said, her voice barely a whisper. Lauren's face was very pale. In her hands, she clutched a homemade scrapbook. Her knuckles were white. She gripped the scrapbook as if it were the most precious commodity in the world. "Jason." She repeated. "What if he doesn't recognize us? What if we can't recognize him? It's been so long, and he was so young, what if he hates us?" Lauren asked, pelting her husband with questions, tears were beginning to form in her eyes. Jason took one hand off the wheel, grasping his wife's hand in his own. "If he's not the fondest of us, I can't blame him. We essentially sent him to boarding school when he was six and haven't checked up on him since. I wouldn't be surprised if he hit me." Jason said carefully. Though his voice was calm, he was truly worried. Every man dreams of having a close relationship with the son they've brought into the world. Jason was no different. However, instead of nurturing and caring for his little boy, he'd sent him away. He was, they were, afraid of him. Jason sighed, releasing his wife's hand, and gripping the steering wheel once more. They were getting close now. Slowly, Jason and Lauren pulled into a parking spot and turned off their car. They looked deeply into each other's eyes; they hazarded a weak smile before exiting the car and walking into the Mansion.

Of course, a human being inside Dr. Xavier's mansion must feel more than a little overwhelmed, but when you've spent your entire career blocking most of Secretary McCoy's meaningful advances for mutant-kind, Jason and Lauren LeGrand felt like sheep in a lion's den. They walked quickly, following the signs to Dr. Xavier's office and knocked on the door. A brief moment passed. In that moment, Lauren felt as if she'd never been as unprepared for something in her entire life as she felt right then. She looked at her husband, eyes full of worry. Jason smiled and squeezed her hand. "Don't worry. Despite the fact we're here on an official government visit, I don't get the feeling that anyone here would want to harm us. It's not just that we have a son here, or that we're government officials. I don't know why, but I have a feeling that this place is more than just a school. It's a home. The place where our son was raised. It's safe here." Jason explained, smiling at his wife. Lauren didn't know how he did it. Despite everything they'd gone through, Jason always managed to keep himself squarely focused on the path before them. Lauren's eyes brightened and she smiled at her husband. "You're right. Let's go." She said, and at that, Dr. Xavier called them in.

[Ryan's parents are at Xaviers door and he opens the door for them]

Xavier opened his office door and welcomed Jason and Lauren LeGrand, "Ah, Jason, Lauren! It has indeed been quite some time! It is nice to see you again. Have you come to see Ryan? I assure you he is doing very well." Xavier was glad to see Ryan’s parents had finally come to visit Ryan but he couldn’t help regretting the timing. Ryan had just discovered his transformation ability.

"Hello Dr. Xavier." Jason and Lauren said simultaneously. "We would like to see him, very much so, but I'm afraid that should wait." Lauren began. "Yes," Jason said, picking up where his wife left off. "As I'm sure you know, the H.M.R. has just passed a registration act. Unless something tips the balance, I can assure you it won't be the last." Jason finished. "Normally, as we're sure you know, we take a neutral stance on Mutant affairs, preferring to work on the human side, to make sure everything is fair." Lauren said.

"After the Juggernaut incident," Lauren continued. "Things have... changed. "People are afraid and the H.M.R. is using that fear to press for more aggressive anti-mutant legislation. We've come here because.... because we can't allow our son to suffer the effects of such laws." Lauren finished. "We're here to talk with you because we need to know. If we push to repeal those acts, we need solid proof that everyone will receive a fair deal" Jason explained.

Xavier focused his gaze a bit more intently. "So what you mean to ask is that is you fight for a repeal on the restriction being placed on mutants, can I guarantee that Mutants will try to remain concealed and not cause incident?” Xavier paused for a second. “If that is what you’re asking, I am afraid I can’t give the guarantee you seek. I can assure you that the X-men would never cause you trouble and harm. But I cannot speak for those whom I’ve no contact and council with. I apologize. I can only urge you to fight for a repeal on the grounds of it being fair for all to make a choice for doing the right thing or the wrong thing.”

Lauren, who was standing behind her husband, looked at him worriedly. She took a step forward, placing her hand on his shoulder. Jason said nothing. He looked over his shoulder at his wife and smiled. "Didn't I tell you the exact same thing. Of course there will be those who want to fight, but for those here at the Mansion, for our son, we would be doing them a great disservice by pushing them down. History would remember us as tyrants." Jason said solemnly. He lifted his hand, placing it on top of his wife's and gave it a gentle squeeze. "I can't speak for the rest of our department, but you've got my vote Charles." Jason said. "I know it may seem flippant or fickle, but you've sold me on it. It's time we did right by our son. Is he here? Can we see him?" Jason asked. Lauren said nothing. While she agreed with her husband, and she was ready to push for mutant-human equality, something didn't seem quite right. She needed to see Ryan. Before she could really commit to their choice, she had to see her son.

Xavier smiled gently. “I assure you, you’re making a wise decision. You have every right to be concerned in the way that you are. There are mutants that have done things to give reason for people to be afraid. But I and others aim to reach out to them and help them realize that we are one and we should act in the interest of everyone, both Human and Mutant.” After Jason asked to see Ryan, Xavier’s face brightened further. “He’s actually right outside the door. It seems he wanted to speak with me as well. Like parent like child. But do be aware. If you so decide in your heart that you want to take him with you, please be mindful to consider his decision on the matter and honor it.” With that, Xavier walked to the door and opened it. Revealing Ryan.

As the door opened to reveal Dr. Xavier's smiling face, Ryan sat up and smiled. He bounded into the office. "Look, look, look!" Ryan said happily, smiling widely. "I can do it without Vincent's help now!" Ryan exclaimed happily. "Now I can actually go out and... Oops, I'm sorry Professor, I thought you were finished with your meeting. Who are those people?" Ryan asked childishly, his head tilted sideways. As he turned to look at the two people he didn't recognize, he studied their features. The woman was tall, blonde, and had green eyes just like his. The man was just as tall, with dark hair that was speckled with bits of grey. He had Ryan's nose and hands. "Do I know you?" Ryan asked, confused. At that, Lauren could contain herself no more. She broke into tears and ran over to Ryan, throwing herself at him and wrapping her arms around his neck. She kissed his forehead. "It's us Ryan." She said through the tears. "It's your mother and father. We've come to see you." Ryan was shocked.
He didn't know what to say, he didn't know what to do. All he knew was that this woman smelled just like he did.

His nose wasn't as strong as it could have been, but he could tell, there was just enough scent in the air for him to tell. She wasn't lying. Ryan picked her up off of him. "Wh-what?" He asked, incredulous. "W-why are you here? There must be some job you're doing, an errand you're running. What are you doing here at my home." Ryan asked, turning to Dr. Xavier for the answers.

Xavier grew a bit concerned. “Ryan, They are here to see you. As well as discuss the future of man and mutant kind on your behalf. They desire to help create a better world for you and other mutants like yourself. But first and foremost, they desired to see their son.”

Xavier then telepathically communicated with Ryan, “They love you Ryan. I know Jean and I have filled the void of parents for you Ryan, but your real parents still love you and want to see you. They want a world where you can be happy and safe as well. Please hear them out. I didn’t think it would be best for me to tell them of your transformed state but now it is unavoidable. No matter what, you always have a home here and you do not have to leave lest you desire to. I love you Ryan, and I want you to know that you’ve been just as much a son to me as Vincent and now Cain have been to me. Now speak to them, Jason and Lauren.”

Ryan nodded slowly. He smiled at the professor, a full, toothy grin. His canines were still just a little sharp, but the effect was cute, not scary. He turned to look at the woman in his arms. There were parts of him in her face; her warm smile, her green eyes. He looked back at the man standing next to Dr. Xavier. Ryan had his chin, his nose, his strong features.Ryan hugged his mother. He pulled her very close to him. He buried himself in her scent. It felt like home, nestled in between his mother's arms. "Yeah... my parents." Ryan whispered to himself. Slowly, Ryan began to change back. He held onto his mother as he reverted back into his bestial form. His father started forward, but Ryan held out his hand. "Stop." Ryan seemed to say. "I'm not going to hurt anyone." After a few minutes, Ryan's transformation was complete. His mother in his arms was startled, but she smiled, cupping his cheek in her hand. "This is who I am Mom. I'm scaled, toothy, clawed, dark... I even have a tail." Ryan said sheepishly. Gesturing with his fifth appendage. "This is the me you gave up all those years ago. Do you recognize me?" Ryan asked, his golden, slitted eyes staring directly into his mother's green ones. She couldn't speak, she nodded, but began to sob once more, and Ryan hugged her gently. As she cried into his shoulder, Ryan forgave her. He forgave his abandonment, he forgot the pain it had caused him, and he cried. He cried like a child who was happy to be home. Slowly, Jason walked over to his wife and son. He wrapped his arms around them carefully, as if they were made of porcelain. "I'm so sorry son." Jason said solemnly. "I don't have the right to call you mine, but I do love you." Jason continued. "I... we... we missed you everyday. We want you back in our lives, Ryan. You don't have to come home with us today. Eventually, if you ever find yourself wanting a home away from here, you can always come to us." For a while, the family cried in Dr. Xavier's office. For a brief moment, there was silence.

Finally, when it seemed they had all finished, Ryan turned to Dr. Xavier. "This place is my home." Ryan said. "This is the place I grew up. This is where my heart is." Ryan continued. His heart was breaking, but he needed to say what had to be said.

"I want to go home with you, mom and dad..." Ryan said, choking up a little as he finished.
"I want to more than anything. However, I'm... I'm not ready. I need to think about it. I need... I need to take a walk." Ryan finished. He had spoken haltingly, it was clear he had truly poured over the option before him.

He couldn't decide yet, he needed more time. Jason and Lauren nodded in agreement. "Of course," Jason started. "We couldn't ask you to leave the home you grew up in at the drop of a hat. In fact, we don't even have a place for you to stay just yet. So why don't we take a bit of a break?" Jason suggested. "Yes." Lauren continued, picking up where her husband had left off. "Why don't you give us a month. We'll move to a new place, where you can have your own room. We'll still visit, but you obviously need some time, and we'll give it to you." She finished.

Ryan nodded, "I'd really like that." He hugged his parents once more, and then walked out of the office. He needed to paint...

At that, Ryan's parents made some small talk with Dr. Xavier, and left shortly thereafter. Xavier telepathically contacted Ryan and simply said. “I’m proud of you Ryan. It was a difficult situation and you handled it well. In fact, your strength helped you mother as well be strong as well. You have your father’s focus and your mother’s passion. I am fortunate to have been charged with looking after a child such as you. I’ll let you be now. Take all the time you need. Oh, and I forgot to tell you, Vincent was looking for you earlier. He, Hideki, Colossus, Philip, and Kyle went out to a dance club and were looking for you but didn’t find you. Well enjoy your evening Ryan.” With that Xavier ended his telepathic communication and sat down in his chair.

“I suppose I should find something recreational to do soon as well.” He said to himself.
