Personality:
Rebecca is often described as a free spirit. She has a heart of gold and a certain kindness that could not be faked. She doesn't like to be stuck in what she would consider to be "dull" situations. These include meetings and anything formal. She's an outdoors girl who loves to feel the wind in her hair. She dreams to get out of her current life and go travelling, and is determined to do it. That's another trait of hers; determination. Some mistake it for stubbornness, but Rebecca often demonstrates her reasonable flexibility by changing her personal plans so that they are convenient for others. She's secretly afraid of love, afraid that love is a curse. Having watched her parents, she had been given the impression that love was a curse; that all romantic relationships were doomed. And so, she distanced herself from those she fears that she will grow feelings for. She isn't shy or antisocial, instead she is wary. She doesn't understand love, she doesn't understand why would want to participate in something so disastrous. Overall, Rebecca is a sweet, adventurous woman who wants nothing more than peace and harmony.
History:
The Upton family is a large and extremely rich family that is very strict with traditions. They do not believe in love, and so instead marry for money. Rebecca is the youngest of her 4 siblings: Richard, Johnathon, Cynthia and Evelyn. She is the daughter of Henry and Phebe Upton. Phebe grew up with Henry, their families being very close, and so their parents decided that they would be a "compatible match" and so forced them to marry. Henry had no problem marrying Phebe, for he was just as obsessed with money as his parents were. Phebe, however, was not so pleased with the idea of marrying Henry. She believed in love, and so refused to marry him. Outraged, her parents went straight to Henry's family and explained that they would have to make Phebe fall for Henry if they wanted the two to marry. And so, Henry did just what he was told and acted the gentlemen until Phebe agreed. After many years of marriage, they had 5 children. They married off the first four with ease, them all being much like Henry. However, Rebecca was different. She was a free spirit and they knew it. Phebe tried to encourage Rebecca to do what she wanted to, but Henry would not have it. He forced her to attend many balls and dates until she would agree to marry someone, anyone. At first, Henry had intended to simply marry her off to a man she had never met but after she did not attend the wedding he finally realised that if he wanted his youngest child to marry he would have to attempt to compromise with her. Rebecca attended every ball and date that he sent her on, but everytime returned with the same answer. After a few years, Henry had had enough. He sent her to Willowcrock Manor and told her that if she did not find a suitor herself he would arrange her a wedding with a stranger. Knowing that would not be enough, he also declared that if she then did not attend that wedding he would sell every single one of her beloved horses and she would have to work for her place in their home.
