It was her technical day off school. What was she doing with this day, working of course. School wasn't going to pay for itself. She only wished it did. Especially during days like this. The overcast weather made it a perfect day for people to come get coffee. Granted some people were more pleasant than others. Since it was a Friday morning, people poured in.

Each person she greeted behind the counter with an empty smile. Not that they could tell. They were too busy thinking about whether to get a grande or venti sized latte. To the locally owned coffee shop, she was the only staff member there. With lines nearing the door she couldn't help but feel overwhelmed as she rang each person up, and then made their drinks.

Alyssa could only curse her cheap bosses for not wanting to pay for two staff in the morning. When the initial rush began to settle she stepped aside to take a sip of her own coffee. Black of course. She wasn't one for all the silly things people put in their drink. She appreciated coffee for what it was.

The gentle music of the cafe threatened to lull her asleep as she checked the time. It was only 10:40 in the morning. She had been there since 7, yet she felt like she'd been there forever. Alyssa never felt like she got enough sleep. Between going to school and going to work, what little time she had she had to spend on homework. What little time was left after that - was spent catching up on sleep.

Alyssa was 23 and still had she yet to find the "one". Her parents chided her to halt her school career to find this person, she found that to be the most absurd idea ever. Seeing in black and white didn't make everything idea - but it wasn't the worst thing. Of course she wanted to see color, to see what was only stories. But that in her eyes, was something far fetched.

Instead she now leaned against the counter, tapping her black matte fingernails against the counter.

One : why was he up this early?
Two : how did he even manage to get out of bed?
Three : why was he thinking in lists?

Sebastian was a chef, but why the hell did it seem he spent all his time around food? He woke up early to simply go get milk for his cereal, now he was here, with a half full cart of groceries. Not that he really could complain, because this meant he'd be able to make something good for himself later - but that was also the exact problem.

It was only himself.

While not many guys he knew would admit it, not having a "bae" actually called for a lonely time. He was 24, some of his friends still partied day in and day out. Others were getting married to their soulmate. Each party that he went to, he felt a part of him die a little bit. It was just another day with lost hope. If you asked him, he would joke he simply wants to see the color difference in his dishes.

Somehow he still had a good idea of what was visually appealing in his courses, even aesthetically. At least that's what his adviser who's been married 23 years has told him. Any person that hadn't found that special someone just had to rely on those who did. It was a very codependant world they all lived in.

Spotting someone who hadn't found their partner was simple. There was just something about them, something that just felt missing. There was no neon sign that would point, but one could simply tell the classes apart.

Sebastian continued up and down the isles, grabbing things that even seemed mildly good. It would be different things to experiment with in his little kitchen. It was a little kitchen that he prided himself in however. Luckily for him he had the day off, so he continued his shopping in a lazy haze.

Sydney removed the covers from over her face with a groan as the people in the next door apartment were keeping up a lot of fuss about whatever. She rolled over in her bed to see what time it was as it seemed like she had slept all morning. Her roommate, Alyssa was more than likely at work since she was off of school today, along with herself. She mustered up the strength and rolled out of bed then made a small trek towards the kitchen, where she opened the fridge and saw that they needed groceries, bad.

With a slight eye roll, as she didn't have any intentions of leaving the apartment today, she walked back into her room and grabbed her cell phone and shot a text towards Alyssa. She then sat her phone down after sending the message and slipping in nothing more than a t-shirt and a pair of sweat pants with sandals. Usual off of work and out of school wear for her.

To: Alyssa
From: Sydney
Hey, girl! How's work? ;) I am going grocery shopping, let me know if you need anything. Okay?

She grabbed her small hand purse then exited the apartment and walked down the stairs before making it to her vehicle then got inside of it. She turned the engine then cranked up the radio, singing along to whatever was playing. Lucky for her, the grocery store wasn't that far from their apartment. She found the perfect parking space, one closer to the door then got out and grabbed herself a buggy and marched up and down the aisles.

Sydney continuously checked her phone to see if Alyssa had texted her back or not as if she didn't do so soon, she was going to be out of luck on groceries this week. A soft laugh escaped over her lips at the thought as she couldn't do that to her newfound friend. She continued to wander down the aisles, eventually bumping her cart into someone else's. Sydney eyes widened as she didn't even look the other person in the face though stammered through her words. "Oh, I am so sorry. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and I'm sorry." She eyed him briefly before walking off and going to the other aisle, leaning her back and head against the shelves with a sigh.

Isiah sat in class, tapping his pencil against his notebook as his eyes stared up at the clock then back towards Professor Jacobs, who was as boring as ever. 'Just a few more minutes. Just a few more minutes.' He thought to himself while staring back up at the clock then when the left struck on the twelve and a bell sounded off, Isiah sprung up and out of his seat then darted past a sea of people in the hall then towards the outside.

Isiah jumped in his vehicle and headed down the street towards the local cafe, which was called Berkley Cafรจ. He tried to hurry there before the lunch rush started but got there as it was building up. 'Shit.' He cursed in his mind then waited in line as he looked at the female taking orders then looked away towards the outside. His eyes flashed towards her again as he was finally next in line but she wasn't his cashier. "Uhm, let me get a turkey sandwich on wheat bread and a small tea, please." The cashier told him his total then handed her the right amount of change then sat at the counter.

The cashier brought over his lunch and told him to enjoy as the rush was soon over and the other cashier, the one he had his eye on was leaning on the counter. "Busy day, huh?" He asked then bit into his sandwich, a small trail of mayonnaise edging at the corner of his lips though he still smiled. Isiah wondered if the female behind the counter with the black fingernails was going to talk to him as he didn't want to make a complete fool out of himself.

Her fingers drummed against the counter absent mindlessly all until she felt a specific vibration pattern in her back pocket. At this point in her life, she never knew who to expect when looking at her phone. Could it be her mother, father, brother, roommate, ex, teenage parole officer?

Luckily it was only her roommate, and not the county library reminding her of overdue books. At the message she immediately knew her answer.

To : Sydney Chi
From : Alyssa McCormick

Can you get me cookie dough ice cream? I think someone will die if I don't have it. Pizza rolls would also be appreciated. :p

Alyssa was never known to be the most healthy of eaters. She made up for it mentally by the fact she ate relatively healthy at school and work. More by force considering the most fattening this her cafe sold was coffee cake. Luckily for her the other cashier had finally arrived to work, and she couldn't help but be relieved. She'd be able to take a step back.

With tired eyes she watched the line dwindle down to fewer people, and finally the last guy went through the line. He was cute, she'd give him that. What was strange to her was that he ordered tea. Any person who ordered tea in a coffee shop she felt needed a smack upside the head. She was just that defensive of coffee.

With a bit of reluctance she made the tea that was ordered. Aka : dropping a pouch in hot water. The guy was at the counter as she slid the drink across. She was only surprised when he attempted to make conversation with her while eating a sandwich.
"There have been busier ones. This is pretty typical" she shrugged in answer.

Alyssa looked down at his tea.
"You know, I should be shunning you for ordering tea in a coffee shop that has superb coffee" she scolded, raising a brow at the guy.

He was looking at cheeses. Call him a nerd chef, but God - there were so many. He wondered what the exact differences between all of them were. Like the difference between a 5 year aged Gouda and a 3 year. His oh-so-frail concentration was broken by the clanking sound of something hitting his cart.

When he turned around from the refrigerated section he saw it was another cart that caused the God-awful sound. The girl that did so accidentally couldn't stop stuttering however. She looked seriously shaken up by the occurrence. To Sebastian - it was just one of those things that happened on off days.

Honestly he didn't hear what she said before she practically ran off with her cart. He stood there dumbfounded, simply wondering what had just happened. Well he knew exactly what happened, but he didn't understand the whole stuttering aspect of it.

He didn't pay much mind to it, instead going back to his cheese selecting, grabbing a few that he thinks would suit the dishes he was prepared to making. In the same isle he grabbed milk and any other dairy item he wanted. Food was his Achilles heel. He could spend millions on it. He had to remind himself he was no millionaire.

When he turned the isle he saw the girl whom had bumped his cart, with her head against a shelf.
"You know, it isn't a big deal" he said as he moved his cart into the isle, grabbing bread off the shelf.

She breathed a bit heavily now as she lowered her head, staring down at the floor and her thoughts all over the place now. 'Should I go back and apologize again? Make a run for it? What should I do?' Many questions fluttered themselves throughout her mind as she looked over and there he was standing and seeing her having a mental breakdown all about hitting his cart with hers. "Yeah, I know. Good thing it isn't a car, right?" She let out a nervous chuckle then bit her bottom lip while looking at him again.

"But I am sorry again." Sydney said as she started rocking on the balls of her feet and twiddling her thumbs. Her eyes made their way into her cart then back up at him. "Cooking dinner for someone special?" She asked him with a raised brow then shut her eyes, shaking her head. "Sorry, not my business. Uhm..." She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket then excused herself from him with her index finger and opened up the message and read it.

LOL. I gotcha, Hun. โ™ฅ

She sent the message then eyed the male before her again then nodded her head. "Well, I'll let you get back to shopping and such. Nice meeting you even if it was in an odd way." Sydney said while walking off from the male, not getting a name or anything. She honestly sucked when it came to flirting and such but she proceeded to get Alyssa's things then made her way over towards the check out line.

Sydney stood in line awaiting her turn as she took out her cell phone again and sent another text towards Alyssa.

To: Alyssa
From: Sydney
So, I met a guy but didn't get a name or number or anything. Was that stupid of me? LOL.

She knew that Alyssa would be very honest with her as she waited her turned and walked up to the cashier, who rang her items up. Sydney paid the cashier and grabbed her bags, walking out towards her vehicle and sitting all of the groceries in the trunk then closing it. She stood against her car for a brief moment to see what Alyssa said she should do or what not.

Isiah eyed the female that he had been staring down earlier as she started answering his question with a shrug. He nodded his head and held his sandwich up at her. "I know. I'm a regular here." He noted while looking at her as she eyed his tea then spoke about their coffee. "You know, I guess you are right." His eyes wandered up towards her then slid his cup of tea towards her. "Can I exchange this then, please?" He asked while leaning up a bit.

A person in passing looked at him then leaned down and muttered. "If you're trying to get her number, it's best if you don't do it with mayonnaise on the corner of your mouth." Isiah's eyes widened as he reached for the nearest napkin then dabbed it on the corner of his mouth and chuckled nervously while standing up. "Uhm, rain check on that coffee?" He asked while darting out towards the door and leaning up against the wall outside. 'Damn it.' He thought to himself.

Isiah reached for his keys then realized that he left them inside on the counter top as he lowered his head with a sigh then turned heel and walked right back inside. "Uhm, it seems that I forgot my keys." He muttered upon his entrance then grabbed his keys off of the counter and eyed the female behind the counter. "I can take that coffee to go. I have a class to get too." Isiah mentioned while waiting for his cup of coffee to go and for her to make a comment, or something.
