Butler/Maid assigned: Eliab Othniel

Appearance
Hair: His red hair falls to his shoulders neatly.

Dressing Style: He normally wears a brown suit with a violet tie and white shirt underneath.
General Appearance
Weight: 110 lbs
Height: 5'0"
Appearance: Charles is not as sturdy as his butler, but he still maintains a somewhat athletic physique. No acne is visible on his pale skin.

All this was his mother's way of preparing him to be her successor of the family's landscape company. She wants him to know exactly what needs to be done and what kind of equipment to use in certain scenarios. By knowing what the employees who work on these projects do in their particular jobs, Charles shall have no problem helping them out, if need be. He learned well, so far. The only problem is getting him to cut his hair to the proper length so he will not have to go through a heap of trouble maintaining it after each project. Other than his love of gardening, the heir to the business can often be seen hanging out at parties and socializing with people.

Eliab

"Er alt i orden, Eliab?"

"I'm fine, Mom!" Young Othniel did not want to admit his actual emotions, most of the time. He primarily hides them. That in of itself can make him rough around the edges, which is part of the reason he does not feel he quite fits in at a social gathering.

"אתה בטוח?"

"Positive, Dad!" The truth is, Eliab felt nervous about his first day. School in Britian has stark differences from school in America. As if that were not enough, he was going to stay at a boarding school, meaning little time to spend with Davy, his floppy-eared Boston terrier. On top of it all, he hoped his assigned master or mistress will not abuse their power. A thousand questions entered his mind. Once he finished his breakfast and put on his black suit, tie, shoes, and blue shirt, the boy rushed to the garage door.

His mother, however, grabbed him by the shoulder. "Oh, no you don't, mister! If you bike on over, you'll break a sweat! You know that is in no way presentable, not to mention you'd have to comb your hair again! I'll drive you there, and don't worry about your bike! We'll take it with us!"

Charles

"Are you sure you don't want another muffin, sir?"

"Already ate two big ones, Kenneth. I'll be fine!" Charles sees the family chauffeur as a bit of a big brother. He is an only child, so you can see why. The two would often tease each other on a range of topics.

"Well, Master Aaron, you best hope they do not confuse you for a mistress in a master's clothing." They had to laugh at that joke. He had long enough hair, reaching his shoulders. It was not that big of a deal. It should be obvious he is a boy.

Eliab and Charles

The campus seemed almost empty by the time Eliab found a spot to chain lock his bike. That must have meant almost everyone else already entered the auditorium. Just as he turned around to head there, he bumped into a boy wearing a brown suit, violet tie, and black dress shoes. What a way to start the year!

"Sorry, sir! I was focused on my bike, for a moment!"

The other person just chuckled. "Relax, yank! I was half dazing for a bit!" He then noticed Eliab's bike. "That's one wicked set of wheels you got there!"

"Thanks!"

"Twenty-four gear?"

"Mm-hmm!"

"Sweet!"

Young Othniel slapped his forehead, before holding out his hand for a shake. "Oh! Where are my manners? My name's Eliab Othniel! Pleasure to meet you!"

The red-haired boy shook hands with him. "Charles Aaron! Feeling's mutual! Guess we should head to the auditorium now, eh?"

Once they got there, they saw a brown-haired girl being helped by a blonde one. What happened is beyond these two boys. Whatever the case, though, it must have been bad.

"You thinkin' what I'm thinkin', mate?" Charles gave a wink.

"Cheer her up?" Eliab could not help but adore the girl. Gosh, she is beautiful!

"Yep! And who would be better than a tough guy like you, watching her back?"

"I suppose..."

"Come on! Loosen up, mate! We got three years of this, might as well get comfortable!"

Eliab did not have much experience with girls, having spent most of his time reading and exercising. With a deep breath, he pushed up his prescription glasses and brought out a pear from his backpack. He then hid it behind his back, holding it in his right hand. He let Charles hold the pack before walking towards this damsel. By the time he came close enough, his left hand was on the back of his neck.

"Excuse me, miss!" Eliab could not help but turn his eyes to the side, blushing. "I did not see what happened, but..."

He could not think of anything else to say. All Eliab could do was laugh nervously, take a deep breath, and present the pear, his face downcast. Eliab, you moron! You know better than to make such feelings obvious! He could not gather the courage to raise his head after that.

Once Dail left, Eliab took one last glance at Katherine before looking for a seat. Looks like you may not be the only one who has feelings for her! No problem! She does't know either of us that well! Just then, in the first row, Charles stood up with his hand waving, signaling for him to get over there. Immediately, the butler birskly walked to the seat spared for him.

"How'd it go, Eli?"

"Could have been better. She saw right through my attempts to hide my feelings for her."

"Doh!" Charles gave a playful punch to the shoulder. "Don't be so stiff! Give her some time! She'll warm up to you! I have no doubts!"

"You saw?"

"The whole thing, mate!"

Now that the man on stage was almost ready to give the announcements, the conversation had to end there. Give her some time... Of course! Love is patient! The Passage of Love. Eliab knew it like the back of his hand. He read it many times, he heard it at church back in Knoxville, and he never forgot it. He applied it wherever he went. Not in the romantic manner, but he applied it. This was the first time he used it as a reference to guide him in his pursuit of such love. He is a gentleman, he can afford to be patient. The only obstacle he saw would be his need to not appear vulnerable or weak, the reason for bottling up his emotions for so many years.

"You said you are a butler, right?" Charles had to whisper in case the announcements started, and he did not want to miss them. "You could of fooled me with how well dressed you are, mate!"

"Yes, I am!" Eliab's eyes were focused on the stage. It was one of those times when he felt the need to show respect for his elders. That was how he was raised in the Southern States.

"I also heard you are looking to work in agriculture! Tell you what: My mum owns a big landscape business which has clients all over the European Union! Rich, poor, you name it! I could tell mum you are wanting a career in a related field of your choice, and she can reserve an apprenticeship for you via one of her best employees! Of course, we have to see what you can do, first! We sign up for horticulture next year, work together in whatever is assigned in that class, and we'll see if you're man enough for the challenge! I'd be glad to have you as my butler, in the meantime! That way, I can keep an eye on you during the whole class that year! What do you say? We have a deal?"

The butler could not believe it. Charles actually heard that part of what he said to Katherine? Why not the whole conversation? The rich boy probably did, but wanted to hear his side of it to make sure he heard right, if that made sense. Regardless, he is giving him, of all other people, a chance at becoming an arborist? Eliab thanked the Lord before shaking Charles' hand.

"It's a deal!"

But wait! That still left one more thing: how is the butler going to be able to make up for the unwanted attention given to Katherine before it is too late, or will he? He could not think about it now. The announcements could come any second.

"This is ridiculous, Charles! First, we walk into the aftermath of what happened to Katherine, and another person's already being picked on! I'm glad my sister did not enroll here!"

"I'm going in with you, for this, Eliab! At least, no girl is involved! Makes things easier for us!"

"Should not matter, sir!" Eliab cleared his throat and whistled for the four boys' attention. "I don't see why you should pick on someone of a different upbringing, fellas. Have you heard of the phrase, 'Love thy neighbor', if you believe in the Lord?"

"Yeah, even if I'm an atheist, myself!" Charles was acting tough, at this point. "So why don't you morons make like a banana and split before this yankie pal of mine, here..."

"Charles! You're not helping by making threats! Didn't we just see the aftermath of whatever happened to Katherine? Besides, I don't fight!"

"Point taken, mate!" The master did not lose his demeanor, despite agreeing with his butler. "Still, you guys must have something better to do than to pick on him! Come on! I know London like the back of my hand! We can all be friends, here! What do you say?"

Eventually, the four boys gave up and left in annoyance. Eliab then gave the one picked on a pat on the shoulder.

"It's hard when people don't understand you. My grandfather is Israeli, I would know what such persecution feels like. Granted, I'm a Christian, but, still..." Before any response could come, the butler smiled and added, "Don't Worry! I'm not homophobic! I was not raised to hate!"

Charles and Eliab jerked their heads in the direction of the girl who called herself Rina. It looked like there were more caring people in school than they thought. Either way, her coming in to assist the boy that was picked on was their cue to leave, satisfied with the fact she would take over from there.

"He's in good hands!" Charles grinned a little.

"I think so! You up for a bit of pitching and batting, baseball style? It's similar to cricket! I got the equipment! We just need to find a fence and be far enough so nobody gets hit when either of us happens to get a piece of any of the throws!"

"You're on, mate!"

Eliab chuckled."Hits not including foul balls and strike-outs count as one point! First to five points wins!"

The butler knew things would be at least a little rough at the Academy, though he never counted on his sister, Rebecca, enrolling. She might not be able to handle a bunch of pressure from being bossed around. However, if that was the price she had pay just to spend some time with her brother, she thought that worth it. What was the problem, then? The answer is simple: she did not have a master or mistress, yet. When she overheard a green-haired girl sigh about not having anyone to talk to, the impulsive maid saw that as the perfect opportunity. She immediately went up to her, whistling once.

Her Southern (American) accent was obvious as she spoke. "Excuse me, ma'am! Do you know anyone who needs a maid? I've been trying to find a mistress or master all day! I bet my brother already found his, knowing him!"

Finally! Rebecca shook hands with her new mistress firmly. Now she will not have to go through a ton of trouble listening to a possible "drill sargeant" before having him find someone for her.

"Rebecca Othniel! Feeling's mutual! You probably saw my brother, Eliab, when he presented the pear to that brunette with a black bow tie? Back at the auditorium?"

She never in her life thought Eliab would not want to remain single. Maybe their father's constant nagging of him kept him from being so social, since hearing such rants would probably scare people away. That moment when Eliab walked towards Katherine shocked the maid to no end.

Just when Rebecca mentioned what happened between the two, Eliab arrived, in total surprise, not to mention frustration. "Rebecca! Hva gjør du her? Jeg fortalte deg ikke å registrere!" Rebecca! What are you doing here? I told you not to enroll!

The maid sighed, half in embarrassment, half in gladness. "And, that's him, behind me! One moment!" She let go and faced her brother. "Hva er så farlig, Eliab? Jeg vil bare ha en liten tid med deg, er alt! Du vet at du er medlem av familien jeg kan snakke med! Alle andre er opptatt med noe! Bare andre sibling arbeider hans esel en barnehager tilbake i Amerika!" What's the big deal, Eliab? I just want a little time with you, is all! You know you're the only member of the family I can talk to! Everyone else is busy with something! The only other sibling is working his ass off at a nursery back in America!

"Hva opptar meg er hvor hensynsløs mange i denne skolen! Du så hva har skjedd med Katherine, gjorde du? Selv om jeg kom like etter det, kunne jeg slags gjette på det!" What concerns me is the number of inconsiderate people in this school! You saw what happened to Katherine, did you? Even though I arrived just after it, I could kind of guess at it!

By then, Rebecca's aggressive impulses took over. "Høyre! Og du presentert som pære til henne som en skjerm av hengivenhet! Du overrasket meg, big brother! Du handlet aldri, noensinne sånn rundt jenter før! Normalt, er du ikke veldig sosialt, lese bøker hele tiden! Hva gikk gjennom hodet?" Right! And you presented that pear to her as a display of affection! You surprised me, big brother! You never, ever acted that way around girls before! Normally, you are not very social, reading books all the time! What was going through your head?

Eliab turned red. "Det er irrelevant! Poenget er, du kan muligens bli behandlet som søppel! Jeg vet at du ikke kan håndtere den slags Press! Du er også impulsive!" That's irrelevant! The point is, you could possibly be treated like trash! I know you can't handle that kind of pressure! You're too impulsive!

The younger sister scoffed. "Minst, holde jeg ikke mine følelser flaske, som du gjør! Hvor mye lengre tid før sikring lyser?" At least, I don't keep my emotions bottled up, like you do! How much longer before the fuse is lit?

Ouch! She had a point! Eliab cannot hide everything forever! How could he argue with that? He gave up and handed his sister a piece of paper with his dormitory number, written personally by him in case of this moment. "Hvis noe går galt, rapportere du til meg umiddelbart! Forstått?" If anything goes wrong, you report to me immediately! Understood?

At this point, Rebecca calmed down a little. Eliab can be uptight, but she knows he cares. The young maid took the paper. "Forstått!"

Eliab moved along beside his master, who asked, "What was that all about, mate?"

"It's a sibling thing! Don't worry about it!"

Charles whistled in amazement. "She's your sister? You think she'd date me?"

Eliab had to laugh. "Nope! She never was interested in that kind of thing! Let's just get my baseball stuff and get on with the contest!"

Rebecca took a deep breath before facing Chamomile again. "It's okay! He's just looking after me!"

Charles asked plenty of questions about baseball, since he never had the chance to play it in Britian. Eliab answered them to the best of his memory, which was vast. When passing Katherine, Young Othniel noticed she was blushing while she spoke to Daileass. Great... Now, there's definitely a love traingle! Wait a minute... didn't she earlier say...? How does this make sense? He then noticed his locker was nearby.

"Hey, Charles, can you wait for me next to my dorm? The number's 1207, second floor. I just need to sort out my books."

The master saw Eliab's reaction to seeing Katherine with Daileass, so he had a hard time believing it. Charles walked a bit before turning and blurting out, "Let me know how it goes, Eliab!"

"Sir, will you just...?"

"Just what? Don't forget who's the master, here!" With that, the red-haired master continued to walk. I hate to seem harsh, but if he will not come out of his shell, it's for his own good! He deserves a girl he can be himself around!

Eliab sighed. He means well, I guess... As he placed his collection of books in his locker, he began rehearsing, in Norwegian, what he wanted to say to Katherine, not knowing she can understand every word he said, had she been anywhere close enough to hear. After a couple tries, what he came up with was, "Katherine, jeg beklager jeg brakt uønsket oppmerksomhet til deg. Og for å gjøre sakene enda verre, jeg løy. Hva jeg mener er, jeg prøvde å skjule mine følelser for deg fordi, som du sa, vi bare hadde møtt. Den kan ikke fungere på dette stadiet og ennå, det er vanskelig for meg å forklare dette innsiden av meg. Slags ironisk, ikke sant?" Katherine, I'm sorry I brought unwanted attention to you. And to make matters worse, I lied. What I mean is, I tried to hide my feelings for you because, like you said, we had just met. It just can't work at this stage, and yet, it's hard for me to even explain this inside of me. Kind of ironic, huh?

After some walking, Eliab started to think twice about what he did. Gee! Now you made a complete fool of yourself! She'll think of you as an idiot, now! Probably for the best, anyway! Just forget about the whole thing! Should have gotten to know her, first! At the dorm, Charles waited.

"How'd it go, mate?"

"Terrible!"

"Can't be that bad!"

"Yeah, well I was too quick to..." Eliab could not think of a counter. He was too agitated by what he did. "Come on, Charles! I need to cool down! Is there a cricket field we could use? That is similar to baseball!"

"Yep! Let's get your stuff and head on over! With the part of it I was hoping not to damage not there, we don't need to worry about a thing!"

Without their coats and button-up shirts, leaving them with the T-shirts they wore underneath, the master-butler pair went to the cricket field. Charles chose to bat first, wearng the baseball helmet. He figured playing cricket prepared him for baseball. With the differences between the two sports, though, Eliab had the edge as he wore his New York Yankees cap and baseball mit.

"Here comes the wind up..." He lifted his left knee to a right angle before lowering it into the throwing stance. "And the pitch..." The butler let go, the ball flying at a swift speed. The master felt an impulse due to the speed and swung before the ball came close. It came whooshing right past him, hitting the fence. "Swung too early, Charles! Strike One!"

"Yeah? I was just getting warmed up!" Charles threw the ball back to him before getting in the stance.

"0-1 pitch, coming up!" This time, Eliab threw a curve ball which appeared to be going towards the ball zone, but ended up at a lower corner of the strike zone. Charles realized it too late and missed the ball by a hair. "Swung too late! Strike Two!"

"Surprise me with another one, mate!"

"With pleasure, pal!" The yankie butler had another ace up his sleeve. This pitch appeared to be one Charles could hit. Once he swung, however, the ball did not meet the bat. It was the perfect knuckleball. "Strike Three! You're out! My turn to bat!"

The master-butler pair went back to the cafeteria after Eliab struck out Charles twice in a row and hit a line drive to right field, resulting in the yankie butler winning the batting-pitching contest 3-0. They lierally had to jog, with periodic sprints, to avoid missing dinner. You can imagine they broke quite the sweat. Their coats and button-up shirts would not help in that scenario; it was a good thing they had T-shirts underneath. Before entering, the pair used the paper towels in the men's room to soak up the majority of that sweat on their faces, necks, arms, and hands. Once in the cafeteria, they talked about the whole event.

"That was amazing, mate! You struck me out twice without the ball going outside the zone once! How'd you do that?"

The butler chuckled a little. "Practice! Lots of practice!"

"I'm guessing from the cap, you came from New York?"

"No, it was a birthday gift from my brother. He visited the State of New York as part of his work schedule to train some employees at a nursery there. He bought the cap while he was at Camden Yards, on his break for that week."

"Camden Yards is in New York City, right?"

"Yep! The island of Manhattan, I believe! That's where the home field for the New York Yankies is!"

"And that field is Camden Yards?"

"That's what it's called! At least, as far as I know!"

Just as they were about to head to the line, Charles and Eliab heard a girl crying behind them. The butler lifted his eyebrow. Isn't that the girl who helped Katherine back in the auditorium? She looked familiar to him, but he did not get her name. Either way, something happened.

"You thinking what I'm thinking, Charles?" In a way, Eliab was looking for payback for being pressured into admitting his feelings for Katherine so speedily, though it was also because he hated to see anyone upset.

The red-haired master grinned in amusement at his own quote used against him. "Cheer her up, mate?"

Eliab pointed a finger at Charles, revealing a hint of hostility in his voice. "You're the one doing the talking, this time!" He started towards the vending machines. "Want any water? They got Propel!"

"Sure! I'll go with grape, if they have it!"

"On it!"

Eliab, my American friend, you are about to see a professional in action! Charles brought out his comb to straighten up his hair a little before putting it back in his pocket. As he walked towards the blonde damsel, he placed a smile on his face to appear friendly. This is how it's done!

"Hello, there!" The red-haired boy paused to see her reaction. "Heard you crying!" Charles took this moment to sit beside her, legs crossed, his right elbow on the table. "Now, what could possibly upset a beautiful lass like you on the first day?"

The red-head's smile grew slightly bigger, satisfied with the apparent success in brightening Anna-Beth's day. "The name's Charles Aaron. You ever want to do something sometime, I know the whole city."

Just then, his butler came, with the two bottles of Propel, one grape, one cherry. "Here's your water, Charles, as requested!"

The master grabbed the grape Propel. "Thanks, Eliab!"

"I'll be at the table next to you, in case you need anything!"

"No problem!" Charles suddenly slapped himself on the forehead. "Silly me, I almost forgot! I think you already saw my butler at the auditorium!"

As he sat at the empty table, the yankie opened his copy of the Bible, NIV. "Eliab Othniel! Pleasure to be of aquaintence, Anna-Beth!"

"He's still new to town! He came from..." The red-haired master scratched his neck. "Say! You never told me where in America you're from, mate!"

Eliab's eyes were on the first page to the Book of Exodus. "Knoxville, Teneesee. It's part of the Southern States east of the Mississippi. Most of my life was spent there. I was actually born in Tronheim."

"Norway? Seriously?"

The butler nodded his head. "My mom's side of the family is made up entirely of Norwegians, hence I can speak the language rather fluently."

"What about your dad's side?"

Eliab slammed his book shut. Should have seen that coming! He turned his head toward his master. "You really want to know?"

"Yeah, Eliab! Where's the shame?"

"You promise not to start a political argument?"

Charles gave a small chuckle. "Politics! Hate the word!"

"Alright..." Eliab put his book in his backpack before sitting across from Charles. "The only people I know from my dad's side, other than him, are my grandma and grandpa." He set two photos down, both in black in white, with a man in an Israeli military uniform and a woman wearing a cloth over her head. "My grandpa was an Israeli soldier who fought in Gaza. My grandma was a Syrian. They met each other at the Church of the Nativity after the battle. Once they realized their homelands would eventually spill each other's blood, they fled to Norway, and the rest is history. That's all they'll tell me."

"What's the problem, then? Can't be that bad!"

"Family lineage is not something I like to discuss because once I mention the Israeli part of my blood, a whole argument starts over whether to support the country itself. They always try to drag me into it. Middle Eastern people in general are frowned upon because of 9-11. Being half Middle-Eastern, like I am, has its pitfalls no matter which part of the globe you are at. Personally, I could care less what happens in that region, military-wise. It's just another warzone for people who don't know any better."

"That's gotta be rough, mate!"

"That's why I keep quiet, most of the time. I have a hard time trusting people to know me as who I am instead of what I am." With that, Eliab put the photos back in his pants pocket.

"No harm done!" Eliab pulled out a full color photo of his parents, brother and sister with him. "The black-haired, green-eyed, tan-skinned guy to the left of me is my brother, Thomas. He's the eldest sibling in the family. His job at a nursery in Tennessee keeps him from moving outside the United States. To the right is my sister, Rebecca. I tried to convince her not to enroll here, but she did. She figures she can handle a few 'drill sargeants' just to spend some time with me, the middle brother, being the only family member she feels she can hang out with, besides Davy, our Boston terrier in front of us. My biggest concern is Rebecca being treated like trash by some inconsiderate master or mistress. If that were to happen, let's just say big brother will be mighty angry!" He then pointed at the background. "Behind us are the Great Smokey Mountains, a subrange of the Appalachians. Trees, shrubs, and grass cover the whole area. It was my inspiration to try and become an arborist, once all this is said and done. Agriculture is something that interests me a lot." The butler put the photo back in his pocket.

"You know, Eliab..." Charles seemed to remember something, right there. "...it just so happens that there is a greenhouse, or garden, or both, where we can sign up and help grow plants and maintain the place! That would be good practice, huh? You might even be able to grow and maintain trees, since you want to be an arborist!"

"Well, it's worth a try..." Eliab was in deep thought for a moment. "But, enough about me!" He turned his attention to Anna-Beth. "What about you? What field are you interested in working in?"

"Your entire future decided for you?" I definitely should have seen that one coming! Eliab's eyes widened. "Hard to imagine the amount of pressure from that!"

Charles raised his hand, his eyes on the table. "I can relate! My mum trained me in all sorts of jobs to make me more capable of handling her landscape company, and I already said it operates all over the European Union!"

"Right..." The butler drank a bit of his flavored water with five gulps at one go. "Well, anyway... you ever been to the Ocoee River, Anna-Beth? It's rather close to Knoxville, and also where an Olympic whitewater rafting event took place."

Eliab did not even want to think about how many other people went through a similar scenario to his master and to the girl they were talking to. Changing the topic was the best he could come up with. It was better to have a random talk in his mind than to stay on a topic which made him feel uneasy.

"Ouch!" Charles could not help but imagine how painful it must have been. "Well, that explains a lot!"

"No kidding!" Eliab was completely stunned. "If my sister went through something like that, I don't know how I'd react! He's getting a bit overprotective, isn't he, your twin brother, I mean?"

It was bad enough the yankie had to worry about Rebecca letting her impulses control her every move. To actually meet someone who went through something traumatizing was an entirely different matter. He could not imagine what it must have been like.

"He blames my parents," she said, studying her hands and letting her hair cover her scars again. A ghostly smile was stuck on her lips, sadness clear in her eyes, "because they weren't there to help me."

"We were playing in the house, barely ten at the time. Our nanny was...off doing something, I'm not sure what. I was running through the living room, and Andrew was chasing me and...I tripped."

She could see it all: the new white carpets Mama had just gotten installed, pictures of Papa in magazines and newspapers all framed on the wall, light shining on the twins' hair as they tore around the room.

"There was a large vase on the table I bumped into. We'd been told to be very careful, because the vase was very expensive. I remember, it was very heavy."

They could only watch it rock, back and forth, back and forth, Anna-Beth sprawled on the floor, Andrew a few feet behind her. It had tipped, and...

"It shattered, on the right side of my face."

She remembered screaming, her face sticky and warm, Andrew standing and crying over her, the nanny shakily dialing for an ambulance. The hospital took good care of her, letting Andrew crawl up into the bed with her. He never left. And Mama and Daddy...they were in court. They didn't hear about her accident for hours afterwards.

When they finally did arrive, Andrew was furious. He screamed at them, yelling that they were horrible parents. That they had to apologize to her. They didn't stay long. They had work, and Anna-Beth had ushered them out, assuring them she'd be alright, honest.

"Mama and Daddy...weren't there. And that made Andrew mad. So he decided he was going to take care of me."

Charles could not believe what he just heard. "What? About six years ago and still he...?" The red-haired master could not even think straight after that.

Eliab kept calm while listening to Anna-Beth. "Then again, Charles, you have to see it from their side, as well."

"You'd think he'd be given therapy, by now!"

"Charles..." The butler was getting a little agitated with his master's apparent lack of understanding, by now. "Do you even have a sibling?"

"Well, no, but..."

"Then please keep a lid on it! I'm not going to waste time explaining things to you if they're not even going to make a dent!"

"Okay! Chill! Jeez! It's time for dinner, anyway! Come on!"

Eliab sighed. "We'll be back!"

As they were about to be in line, Charles and Eliab heard a familiar voice panic. The yankie recognized that one. Katherine? Already? She never gets a break, does she? He made a dash in the direction of her voice, and found her at a table, searching her bag frantically for something.

At this point, Eliab didn't even think about the earlier conversations. "What's wrong? What happened?"

"Ingen årsak!" You're welcome!

Eliab was truthfully impressed that Katherine knew exactly what he was saying. Not very many people he knew outside his family were fluent in Norwegian. The thought of how intelligent she might be put a brief grin on his face, reinforced by the satisfaction of knowing he helped her out when she needed it. That grin left, however, when the yankie thought of the earlier talks with her. Does this really compensate for my stupidity before it? In the end, he decided that past was irrelevant. What mattered at the moment was what was happening then.

Charles broke his train of thought with, "Broke a sweat again, huh, mate?"

Eliab looked in his direction. "It was worth it, sir!"

"Ah, enough with the formalities!" The master chuckled. "We're in the same age group! I don't expect a lot of formal stuff from you!"

The butler had to laugh a little, himself. "Sure thing, Charles!"

"Well, now that that's over with, how 'bout we find ourselves a table?"

"I think I'll sit alone for a while."

"Suit yourself!"

As Charles left, Eliab turned his attention back to Katherine for a moment prior to heading in line to get his dinner. He ended up getting plain rice with General Tso's chicken on top of it. For a side, the yankie put some strawberries and a banana next to the main dish. He sat at an empty table nearby Katherine's, but did not look in her direction. The boy just ate silently, pondering how the rest of the year would turn out. He had to admit, the first day so far had more going on than there probably would be for the next few others within the week. His mind wandered off in several different directions at once.

"Don't worry about it, Anna-Beth! I received more than a hundred death threats for being Quarter-Israeli, Quarter-Syrian! I'm used to it! There is nothing your brother can say that surprises me!" David just kept eating.

Just then, Charles ran up. "What's going on here, mate?"

"You remember Anna-Beth mentioning her brother and how he behaves? Well, he's in front of you, right now! Apparently, he is mad at me for what I said to him about Rebecca!"

"Andrew..." Chales' face turned from concerned to a sudden inner rage. "Let's get one thing straight: you mess with my butler, you mess with me! I will not tolerate any threats towards him, you understand?"

"Calm down, Charles! He's not worth it!"

"I'll be calm when he learns to watch that bloody mouth of his when he's around you!"

"Hey, man, I was just trying to get him to apologize for being so terribly rude to me! But if you wanna have a problem," he whipped off his coat and threw it to Anna-Beth, then undid the top button of his dress shirt, "then we have a problem. What're you gonna do, sissy boy? You gonna protect this stupid kid? Seems he can't fight his own fights, can he?" He grinned, eyes lethal, and stared at the newcomer, this Charles guy. "And I'm pretty sure it's gonna be your mouth that's bloody if you wanna start something."

"Andrew, I--"

"You shut your mouth right now, Anna-Beth," He glanced to his sister, then back to Charles, "this is men's business. You keep your stupid little girl thoughts over there, you hear me? If he wants to throw down, we'll throw down."

(I hate making Andrew mean Dx and I feel like I'm personally insulting you!)

Haru
“Hm…” he pondered over where to go next. According to Luthais, there were a variety of options. But which one to choose? “I’m not super hungry, but we can go to the cafeteria if you want… actually,” he said after a moment or two. “We can go anywhere.” Haru clutched the book to his chest and smiled again. “Now that I’ve got my book, I don’t care where we go. I’m terrible with decisions anyhow,” he concluded, shrugging with a small giggle.

Mel
For most of the following banter exchanged, Mel hadn’t really been paying attention to the exact words spoken. She just knew that Andrew was becoming more of an ass by the second and would soon have to be put in his place again. She didn’t know all the details, but that was pretty much it, as far as she was concerned. But… what were those last words she’d heard come from Andrew? She mentally replayed them. "You shut your mouth right now, Anna-Beth," he’d said with that sickening cockiness of his. "This is men's business. You keep your stupid little girl thoughts over there, you hear me? If he wants to throw down, we'll throw down."

Acting half without thinking, Mel reached out and grabbed Andrew’s ear and yanked on it, hard. It was a tactic she’d used on her own brother many a time when he was starting to show his ass in public. What did she care if it was embarrassing? Except this wasn’t her brother. She yanked harder. This was her master, and he surely needed to be taught a lesson. Angry Mother Hen Mode: Activate.

“EXCUSE ME? MEN’S BUSINESS? ANDREW ANDERSON YOU WILL CEASE BEING AN ASSHOLE RIGHT NOW AND APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR RUDENESS YOUNG MAN!” She sighed angrily and lowered her voice, but still spoke harshly. “Just because you are a masterdoesn’t give you an excuse to act like a total ass to other people. I don’t know how other people stand you! I cannot believe you’d be so immature to actually fight with another student. Really, you are something else. Jesus Mary and Joseph, and I thought you of all people would have some kind of sense....” She gave another agitated sigh and released Andrew’s ear, then crossed her arms over her chest.

Eliab looked at Andrew. "It's not that I can't fight, Andrew! I can! I just don't see a need for it!" He finished his dinner before speaking again. "I do know of something else for you to vent your frustrations, though: I've been practicing for fencing for quite some time! It is one of many exercises I do to keep my mind off of things that trouble me. I have the protective gear and the blunt swords in my dorm. We can use all that for a fencing match. First to hit ten points wins. Each hit counts as a point. After each hit, we start at the middle of the carpet like we would initially before the match begins. There is no stabbing during the match, just slashes and parries, for the most part. It's a standard rule of the game. We can do it in the gymnasium where not many people are. Nobody gets hurt, and you'll have let it all out. You up for it?"

Charles turned his attention to his butler. "Eliab, what are you doing?"

"Saving you from a possibly serious injury!"

((It's a roleplay, so... I wouldn't worry too much! Let's just focus on the story! We're doing great!))

Andrew hissed as Mel tugged on his ear, and yanked away as fast as he could, face red with anger and embarrassment. He glared between them all, then sneered, as was usual with him. His pride had been scraped, but he didn't need pride, he had skill.

"Fencing? Are you serious?" he chuckled, ignoring his maid. She would learn her place eventually. "If I wanted to play with dinky little swords, I'd probably hang myself. I don't need an object to kick your ass, buddy, I can do it with my fists and my feet. But you obviously aren't man enough to try that, are you?" He whirled on Mel, shaking with fury, invading her personal space and nearly screaming in her face, "And this has nothing to do with my station, with my money, or with anything else that has to do with any of that crap. I'm yelling and fighting because I want to yell and fight. So you can just bugger off!"

"Brother," Anna-Beth whispered, and walked towards him, hand out-stretched. She touched his shirt gently, trying to grip his arm, but he turned and threw her off before walking out of the building. He would wait in the gym, all right, but not to play with those stupid fencing toys. He'd taken fencing as a kid, but it hadn't been violent enough for him, so he'd quit. Andrew would kick that twerps ass the old-fashioned way.

Anna-Beth stood quickly, and turned, attempting to follow her brother...but he didn't want her near, that much was obvious. She turned back and paced towards the others, smiling shyly, no tears springing to her eyes this time.

"I'm sorry," she muttered, "he's really a good guy, he just...what did he do to upset you? Whatever it was, I'm sure he didn't mean it. Andrew is just...he plays life by ear, no plans, no thinking things through. He just DOES. It's actually a very admirable trait."

She turned and bowed her head to Mel, tucking her hair behind her ear, "Thank you for trying to stop him, but once he gets going, he's like a speeding bullet. You're his maid, aren't you? I'm sure you've realized it's going to be a difficult journey by now. I hope he doesn't make you want to leave, it'd be great to have another girl around him, get him used to 'em."

"Charles," she murmured, and walked up to him, pleading him with her eyes, then glanced at the Othniel siblings, "Eliab, Miss Rebecca, I apologize on his behalf. Please, don't feel obligated to fight with him. It's exactly what he wants, and he'll be nearly unbearable at home tonight. I know he's a bit of an ass," she placed her hand on Charles' arm, begging him with her eyes, "but please, try and put up with him?"

((He's waiting in the gym~~I've never written a fight before, I wonder if it'll actually go down! ^_^))

((The point of what Eliab said was to avoid anyone getting hurt, so I doubt it. Maybe when he has a better reason to do so? (; ))

Charles was a little confused as to what to say, at first, but then nodded, slowly. "I... I'll... I'll try!"

Eliab took his Bible out of his pack. "I wasn't planning on fighting him, to begin with. The point of the fencing suggestion was to avoid anyone getting seriously hurt. Can you tell him that I feel a man should not let his emotions get the best of him?"

Rebecca nodded towards what Anna-Beth said, then turned her attention to Chamomile, shrugging. "Well, Andrew was right up in my face, but I don't think he meant anything by that. Eliab just wanted to remind him of that particular wrongdoing, but I guess it was taken the wrong way. The reason he suggested fencing is because he had protective gear they could have used to prevent either one of them from getting hurt while Andrew let off steam. Eliab tries to avoid a fight or injury, whenever possible. When he doesn't succeed in that..." She shuddered. "... Let's just say I'd rather not be there for that!"

Anna-Beth's smile was frozen a bit on her face, and she blinked a few times, then looked at Eliab with her head cocked slightly to the side.

"I'm sorry, he didn't mean anything by getting up in her face. It's just what he does. And though he is a bit rash, I'll ask you to please not insult my brother's emotions, or manhood, really. I'm just glad he walked away. He can be violent, though that isn't to insult your abilities, he could have caused some damage."

She shook her head sadly, and smiled, closing her eyes tightly, "I'm sorry, that was rude. Anyway, I should...go talk to him, maybe. I'll see you soon, OK Charles?" She smiled at him, then picked up her brother's forgotten coat and rushed out, following her twin's brain waves. He was rude, and rash, and crude, yes...but he was still her brother, and she had to defend him. That's what sisters did, wasn't it?

"Oh! Yeah!" Rebecca slapped herself on the head. "Eliab, this is Chamomile Speculi, my mistress!"

Eliab held his hand out for a shake. "Eliab Othniel! Pleasure to meet you, Chamomile!"

Rebecca then pointed to Eliab's master. "And, this is..."

Charles was still blushing from what Anna-Beth said to him, but it went away when he held his hand out, as well. "Charles Aaron! I'm Eliab's master!"

Chamomile shook their hands and offered them a cheerful smile, pleased with the fact that they were both guys. Not because she were a playgirl of any sort but it would make her feel more comfortable.

''Pleased to meet you Eliab, Charles'' she said and curtsied by reflex. When she uttered the words she felt like one of those 'respecteble ladies' her mother socialized with so she sighed and started anew.

''I'm Rebeccas mistress, Chamomile, and you're her brother right?'' She focused her gaze on Eliab and then passed on to Charles, ''I apologize for the sudden question but do you guys live in the dorms or at home?'' Chamomile herself arrived with her plane from Dublin this morning and hadn't had the time to see her dormroom. She'd also forgotten to ask Rebecca while they were eating.
