Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying.

there would be no way to get the energy back, and could lead for the magic to be gone forever. this is not to mention, the power itself is a fifty fifty chance if it proves volatile or not, sometimes leading in death. top it with how the user's own life-force will begin to deplete for every usage, it leads to very little room for usage unless the situation itself is dire. the most important touch of all, is he can't bring someone back from the dead. ever.

it was rigorous, strict, and above all else... incredibly dull. his escape attempts didn't cease, adventure waiting for him beyond the castle grounds and high stone, but they eventually came to a simple and quick halt when shipped off to the lantian's military school. there, he learned multiple things: silence and peace were a luxury, war is an art, and to serve the cosmos means to do whatever they could - without feeding into another's war fantasy. while war might of been an art, it was one best looked out onto from afar as the world changed around them. he spent another five years learning how to perfect being a ruler - fighting, what weapons were best, how to train one's mind and body for the worse case scenarios. it led to his heart growing as cold as the winters, his eyes being harsh and cutting.
even during his time in the military 'school', however, he was kept from most and under strict supervision due to the nature of his powers. how they didn't think he understood just how severe the repercussions could be. boy did he show them wrong when he privately took the throne the same year he graduated, forcibly removing the regent after they refused to move from power. acacius and his sister were quite the better ruling force anyway, though he relinquished many of the typical ruler duties to his beloved younger sister.
at least, until another songbird sang a song into his ears he knew was bound for something more then duty and war.
