Zenith Rising

The world is not what it seems. It never has been. For eons alien entities have lived among us, preying on the weak, feeding off of our human emotions, driving themselves to be stronger, while expanding the host's own consciousness. The Obsequious Zenith.

Introduction

___History
Well over a thousand years ago now, the Dark Lord of Ayenee tried to gather and harness all of the Hate in the world. As he accumulated it, the power he found to be potential and available was far more than he could have ever imagined and was ultimately consumed by his own creation. Hate feeds off of hate -- it grows like a festering poison in the hearts of all of mankind. With the Dark Lord's power and ignorance, it grew to be sentient and began consuming heroes all across Ayenee who dared to oppose it and attempt to end it's dastardly reign.

It took champions of heroes to defeat such a virulent tyrant. Heroes who had no hate within them. Heroes that are best known today as the Guild. Gods among men, they battled the monster and locked it away on an alternate plane of existence, sealed up within shards of crystallyss. These little symbiotic crystals were then transported off world, however in a last ditch effort to escape this soon-to-be eternal tomb, a few of the shards exploded into smaller fragments as the might of hate expanded exponentially. The effort failed miserably, however a few of the smaller shards disappeared.

These shards were considered extremely toxic and dangerous to anyone who ever found them. And it was here that the first true enemy of Ayenee was born -- Vicer. As dragon lore goes, these massive reptiles are fiends for shiny objects, gold, jewels and more. So when the darkest breed of dragon found one of these elusive shards, a massive dragon was born of hate and pure evil. Two gigantic mouths, six eyes, and a hunger for anything good in nature. Four pairs of wings, each fifty yards long and the body, double that size to include a twenty-five yard tail. The mammoth beast was tenacious and gave Ayenee the destruction of their beloved castle with a few quick fireballs, launched from it's dual-maws. In the end, the heroes of Ayenee collected the beast's head and that seemed to have been the end of it all...

In truth, the dragon died and gave birth to six shards of this hateful substance. Small in nature, they would never have their full potential, so they did the next best thing to survive for themselves, possibly for a returning future -- they latched onto passerby's symbiotically. History proved that those whom they came into contact with became viciously powerful, but also had severe sanity issues, due to the mental stress of the symbiotic pull. Little is known about the history of these end events and what led to their disappearance. Some say the Guild cleared out most of the shards, tracking them down as they went, but others speculate that they got smart and found better ways of hiding...

___Present
Once called Ayenee, Starthra, Nerima, Eden, Rhydin, Valucre, and Alterion, is now known as Exodyus. An all-encompassing security blanket protected by those who are only known as the Guild, branded by the mark of a Raven. They protect the denizens of Exodyus from catastrophic failure in the mechanics of corporeality, but are sworn to neutrality when it comes to humanity. They have known about the Zenith since their origins, as it was the Raven's Brand who introduced crystallyss shards to the prime plane, the original host for the parasites. A mistake they have regretted ever since.

The Zenith have come out of dormancy once again, realizing that it's their time to shine and that humanity is fresh. So many emotional souls. So many powerful people. The trouble is ... one of the Zenith is being controlled, instead of doing the controlling ...

___Synopsis
These symbiotes have become extremely clever in the dormancy of a thousand years, however still leave tell-signs to those who have them, however some are less convincing while others are nearly undetectable. Testing for these parasites would require extremely advanced equipment and someone with an expertise in such effects and characteristics, while have a working knowledge of parasites and parasitic activity to even come remotely close to discovering such a well preserved entity.

The Obsequious Zenith are telepathic with their host, however not much is recorded beyond this. Old records indicate that one might have been able to communicate with others telepathically, and even able to locate their own species. Of course, most of these records are withheld in major libraries across Exodyus and require some sort of advanced clearance to access such private or top secret information. Little information is given, due to the Exodyus World Alliance's {EWA} tight security over possible nation crisis materials.

___Descriptions
In the past what is known is that it was a connective parasite, much like a flat millipede connected to the spine, over the skin upon a human's back. Typically, the Obsequious Zenith have been known to attach themselves to those with higher cognitive functions or some extreme emotion that they can feed off of for a power source. Connected to the base of the skull, they directly connect to the brain of the host, which makes removal more than just a delicate process -- but a life and death matter. Most hosts cannot survive without the injections that the parasite gives on a daily basis, once they've started the 'treatment.'

Nothing is known about their dormant cycle and the present look or substance of the parasite.

General Notes wrote:Things like height, weight, personality, and appearance are completely irrelevant in all situations when dealing with this sort of Advanced Parasitic Lifeform. A normal human might stumble upon this rare creature while in some remote location, never in a city environment due to complications of population and environmental growth, and not another soul would be any wiser of it -- even if traveling with this person. Depending on degrees of personal depth, one could truly see a change in someone mentally and emotionally, as the added stress of the creature might cause some irregularities.

___Hunted
The main goal of the parasite, [which is able to speak telepathically to the host] is to gain the strength to take it to those who've ensnared it throughout history. Those heroes who have altered the course of fate over a thousand years ago by locking up what truly remained of it's power. Now, a hollow shell of it's former self -- a sub-par version of once-greatness, is now hunted for the potential harm and trouble it could bring, if allowed to advance and possible find a way to release the Dark Lord from his hiding.

This goal alone has earned the Obsequious Zenith a top spot on the Wanted Lists for the Exodyus World Alliance {EWA} without question. If one contains the parasite and it is confirmed, they can be executed without justification, because of the traumatic and potential threat they cause to the entire world.

Skills

___Mental Status
Once the Obsequious Zenith has assumed full control and the bonding has occurred between the parasite and the host, the mental link because hastened exponentially to the point of reaction is ability, and ability is reaction. They think in unison, react in using, fight in unison. Because of this, combat against the Obsequious Zenith is extremely dangerous. They can be moving and preparing for an attack leaving you without any such reveal until the strike. The mind's ability is only hindered by the host, once the parasite takes over and usually during Rank I, the parasite is doing whatever it feels like doing in the body it has claimed. Once they bond, the host retakes claim. This is all dependent again, upon the host.

___Growth
People affected by the parasite will begin a rapid transformation of abilities, starting with the reprogramming of their current neural network and how the brain processes, reacts, and responds to the incoming stimuli. Bonding with the parasite is completely up to the host, but a true bond -- the limits seem to be endless.

Those affected are set on a Ranking Scale of Threat based upon their ability and power. The higher their Rank, which has been directly correlated with fame and lionization in the history books and records on Obsequious Zenith, determines how lethal these individuals are and the danger they possess to all of humanity. The records indicate that only two managed to keep their sanity out of the recorded eight that had been found.

Supplementing the host is based on the host, however when the parasite becomes attached, simply breathing in the essential nutrients and elements in the atmosphere feed the Obsequious Zenith better than anything else, allowing for the host to run twice as long as a normal human without food, on half the amount of food required to fill the average being. Rest is required in the earlier stages of development, however as the host grows accustomed to the parasite, they will be able to go longer and harder than the strongest of humans and beyond.

___Physique & Damages
Imagine that the host is a punching bag, once the Obsequious Zenith takes control. Controlling the brain and it's receptors allows the parasite to send the host into an OverDrive (OD) of sorts, which shuts off most of the pain receptors and allows the Willpower to push through tough spots, issues, broken bones, etc. As the levels progress and time continues on, the parasite strengthens the skeletal core, so that levels beyond twenty, or beyond Rank III, their bones would resemble a semi-rigid steel. Taking massive amounts of physical damage, while still remaining intact.
This is not to say that they cannot be broken, but it is to say that they can withstand immense amounts of damage. Same goes for the epidermis. The blood coagulates at much faster rate and by Rank III, it's possible to take on cuts and not bleed out at all. Much like a cauterizing effect, manipulating the brain allows for a myriad of effects and alterations to the body that would otherwise not be feasible. Hence, punching bags -- regardless of whether they can dish the damage out, they surely can take it.

___Zenith: I've Got Your Back
A unique piece about the parasite is the natural instinct to survive, however, this in-itself is not unique, but when the parasite can cause reactions that the host cannot see -- then it becomes unique. The Obsequious Zenith is a Psionic-parasite, thus allowing it to feel out around the host, but not very far without the manipulation from the host first. However in some circumstances, the parasite has mounted to the back or rear of the host, and as such, had an interest of self-preservation when incoming attacks came from the rear -- thus alerting or taking care of the issue and/or situation at hand, by assuming control of the host to do what is required. The parasite alone has little ability -- enough to mesmerize a human or to swat projectiles away that aren't moving very quickly and possibly alter trajectories. This effect is rare, as the growth of the host would eventually nullify the need, having created their own neural network and mental sub-routines that would inevitably protect the host.

Two points of awareness flared brighter than the others as Marlin stared down the approaching men.

My brethren. Marlin she felt a tint of anger in the creature's mental voice.

She took a step forward, about to attack, when her attention was drawn away. One of the bright spots in the neural net shot forward, toward Marlin's location. She looked up to see a girl running at the men. No, she wasn't quite running; she moved over the stones and debris underfoot as if floating. The girl shouted and the men turned around, startled. Before they knew what was happening, rocks smashed in two of the men's faces. The strange girl stopped and laughed in a way that made Marlin's skin crawl.

Be careful, the creature in her mind warned.

The girl was so caught up in her amusement that she seemed to forget about the last man in the group. He stood with wide eyes, unable to understand what had happened to his companions. Marlin didn't understand it either—some kind of magic?—but she didn't let her confusion keep her from acting.

She grabbed the man in a head lock and twisted his wrist viciously with her other hand. He dropped his sword and whimpered. "I—I'm sorry! Please!"

Marlin's heart thumped at her chest. It would be so easy to break the man's neck. Plunge her dagger into his gut and watch the blood soak the ground. Your emotions are in a state of flux from the Joining. Fight it. You must learn to master your mind. The voice and its lecturing tone made her angrier, but somehow she was able to pull her stray thoughts under control. We are powerful. But remember what you've stood for. You're not a killer.

Marlin released the man. "Go." He stumbled off, into the surrounding forest, and disappeared. The girl was still standing there, a distant look in her eyes. There was something familiar about her; as if they had met before, long ago. Marlin approached cautiously and waited to see what the girl would do.

Abigail

She swayed slowly in her ecstasy, her feet dancing lightly atop the rugged terrain. She never wanted to stop feeling this wonderful and each time she replayed the men's deaths a new wave of pleasure flowed forth. She smiled and hugged her arms about her frame, giggling to herself. Liberation feels wonderful, doesn't it? "Yes," she replied, shocked at how easy the deaths had been. It was amusing, her previous hesitance on taking life. Ah, her presence happily corrected, but you weren't just taking it. Those men got what they deserved. It was true! She helped that poor woman, her sister, from those wretched creatures. She new first-hand what men were capable of. Never again, would she allow something so hideous to go unchecked. This thing within her was teaching her so much in such a short amount of time. It gave her the power she had always desired and helped her exact the justice this disgusting world needed. Who are you? She finally asked. This thing had given her so much, but she didn't even know who to thank. It doesn't matter. You wouldn't be able to process something so..complicated. "I need to call you something.." she pushed, trailing off in thought before declaring, "Bowie." ..Bowie? "Well..you do have a yellowish glow about you..and honestly..it's a name that I like." The presence within her remained silent for a pause before sarcastically accepting the title,I suppose that'll do. Humans..so creative.

Her lips once again twisted into a shy smile, before turning towards the remaining man's pathetic blubbering, "I—I'm sorry! Please!" She was curious how her sister would finish him off, perhaps she'd learn a new trick or two. Though, instead of the wonderful performance she was hoping for she was horrified when her sister relinquished the creature into the forest. "What are you doing?" She cried in unison with Bowie as the man disappeared into the foliage. It wouldn't be hard to locate him. His frantic movements and breathing were like tiny insect bites in her psyche, an annoyance that would be dealt with. She would find him later, right now she was curious why her sister had let him escape. It was something she couldn't fathom. "Don't you know what they were coming do?" She asked in angered bewilderment, thrusting her fingers back towards the men she killed, "They were going to kill you and you let them go?"

Two were bled. Separated from one another and buried in the dark bedding of the forest, masked by the daunting fog that grappled with the trees, bringing on the nastiest web of blindness and confusion for men. I sat, crouched on this man's corpse, still warm with blood and life, which was now all-but escaping the vessel, awaiting the last six to approach me. I could feel the anger in the camp between Abigail and the stranger -- something about the new girl seemed ever-so familiar, but in the same tense, she'd released a man meant to do her harm. What was she thinking? What would become of him?

The shouting and discussion of the approaching individuals was that of fear. Talk of ghosts, spirits, and karma getting the best of them. Traps set by goblins, aimed to behead them and serve their brains on silver platters taken from the treasuries in the camp. Their lungs beat like day-ridden horses. Their blood coursed through tightly wound veins as an avalanche of mountain water through narrow spring passes. They were petrified, and none-more than Edward. His thoughts gave way to the fear of his step-daughter finally snapping. Seeing vengeance for all the wrongs that he'd committed against her and her family. Little did he know that she would be the least of his worries.

Feel out the essence within - it is of the Astral plane. It is mental focus. It is within you and you will wield it like a stolen blade and destroy those who wrong us...

Narrowed lids closed away ruby eyes from sight, as I smiled and smirked to myself, using my mind instead of my eyes to take full advantage of my power and this moment. Human's rely too much on sight -- something that can fail them within moments of the right [or wrong] circumstance. The fog clouded mortal sight and when my eyes rested at last, I found the most beautiful display I'd ever witnessed before in my life. Life abundance is what I could see, but outlined by the aura that it possessed. Trees and vegetation were varying shocks of green, lifting all around me and pinged beneath my feet. As if I was standing in a clouded world, anything and everything within what felt like a hundred meters was known. The men were shades of red, varying on their intentions, surrounded by hazes of various hue, depicting their mental health at the moment ... which was more yellow than any other shade.

I felt the warmth of energy coating my youthful frame and with their final steps, the energy within me resonated like a bell, and exploded outwards in a cataclysmic wave. The heat waves rolled off of gaunt, pale shoulders and only seemed to feed my enraged status. Without warning, the wave rocked the men like a typhoon in the darkness; swept from their feet and battered against trees and one another, the group was scattered and separated. In the chaos, screams could be heard along with their cries of help and dazed senses. One of them had stumbled upon another friend who was now lifeless and impaled on a broken tree branch. His spine severed and body hanging limply from the nub which stretched out like the reaper's arm from the trunk of a thick oak. Poltergeists, they cried.

They fled for the village -- or at least three of them did. Two ran deeper into the forest, separating the group once again. Edward moved with the group in the right, the smarter of the crew heading back for the cove. The other two, I hunted.

And then there were five.
