Introduction
"Humanity is not lost when we do not think twice when looting the dead, when we turn our backs on one another, or have to the silence the moans and groans of a fellow brethren. We have already mastered these sins. Humanity is lost when we raise the dead, disturb the very spirits of man just to watch them take their last breath over and over again. Brethren this day has come and I wish not to be a part of it no longer."
-Last written document of Edward Alfrey, a poet and suicide victim.
Story: With war comes death, who would have thought there was a fate worst than death. No one expected the war on terrorism would blossom into total warfare. A Terrorist group, calling themselves Grim's Order, arose out of nowhere and began terrorist assaults across American soil. The group planned strategic bombings most being explosive others being strategically placed chemical bombings. It was believed their main goal was to inflict casualties but overtime the very patients that were being treated within hospitals were dying only to rise again as mindless zombies. The connection was not made until weeks later, the group was zombifying their victims by contaminating nearby hospital's blood supply. Upon further research, scientists came to label this a biological warfare for these terrorist were using a man-made virus of unknown origin; a virus come to be known as the Grim Virus. Sidelined by this epidemic that began with a few hundred causalities to millions of dead roaming the streets, the government began pulling out of the very nation it claimed to protect. The officials that stayed either died or isolated themselves within hidden settlements and facilities giving what little assistance they could. Already crippled by the terrorist attacks the zombie assault completely immobilized the U.S. government and military. As time passed national help became reserved for important figures and help outside the nation became rare with information becoming hard to come by as radio towers, power stations, and other facilities became abandoned. Over time America turned into a land of the dead with the living being the fodder.
Features: I wanted to take part in a zombie roleplay but each one seems filled or seem to be missing something I wanted. So I decided to make a zombie roleplay with the features I wanted, something I believe would enhance the experience. This will be a advance zombie roleplay with lots happening behind the scene and I truly believe it will be a great roleplay and I will give it my undivided attention since I will not be taking part of any other roleplay. With that aside here are the features I speak of:
Sandbox Story: This means that the story will be in a sandbox format, in other words you may do whatever you please whenever you please. The sole purpose is to survive and maybe finding separated loved ones. But keep in mind your ever action has its consequence.
Zombie System: Unique zombies that alter in strengths and weakness, so no more slow moving mindless zombie hoards being your priority. Now among the hoards there are zombies specialized in ways to kill but for now info on these zombies will remain hidden until discovered. This will remain realistic and simply be realistic outcomes for zombies within the world.
NPC System: NPCs will be more in depth and much more complex for each one will not have their own personality, skills, traits, etc. These NPCs will make drastic changes in the story and every action done towards them will change their outcome, loyalty, etc. Every NPC is able to be recruited but only a few are worth recruiting and most need to be convinced. Each NPC have their own skill just like any other character making them useful in certain situations, which means you must know the NPCs you recruit in order to use them to the fullest. (Ex: A NPC great at scavenging and stealth will be great for reconnaissance but poor guarding). Only way around this is to train them NPCs and your character can learn a max of five skills, having two already learned. NPCs can be just as important as other characters it just depends on how much time and effort you put in them, I will be playing as all NPCs so my key role will be in them. You may have control over NPCs as long as you notify me and I approve.
Plot: It is February 20, 2015 it has been an entire year since the zombie apocalypse has started and you have sought shelter within the Empire State Building one of the few safe havens left. Broadcasting is sparse and the place is crowded but it is at least safe or at least it was. Two weeks ago a broadcasting of a governmental safe haven to the West. It is said that civilization have been reestablished within California, a entire state deemed a safe haven was something to look forward to but not worth pursuing especially for people thousands of miles away. That was until the building's top floors enveloped in a chemical explosion. Chemicals seeping from the top floors to the bottom floors, the place erupted in chaos as people stampeded for the exits and others succumbed to a silent death.
You are one of many trapped within the building or an onlooker trying to help the people escape. Zombies still inhabit the city in the millions and the screams are simply drawing them in so this is a race against time. What will you do? Help the trapped? Flee? Seek shelter in the West? Seek shelter elsewhere? The world is in your hands, what fate shall it succumb to?
The Environment: Cities are in ruins due to pillaging and fights between the dead and the living. Structures are intact for the most part but have sustained damage whether from raids or bombings done by Grim's Order. Roads scattered with empty cars and corpses within those cars. The countryside being least affected by the apocalypse most zombies found within cities or roads. Within the expanse of a year thanks to Grim's Order America is ridden in chemical fogs that kill within ten minutes (Ten posts worth) of exposure. These fogs are red and follow the wind killing whatever in its path, haze masks being the only way to safely travel through these fogs or remaining indoors until the fog passes. Breathing through cloth only guaranteeing an extra ten minutes (Ten posts worth) of exposure. These fogs can envelope entire cities and tear apart the lungs at the cellular level, effects are permanent. Symptoms include: Intense chest pain, coughing blood, sneezing blood, pain in breathing, and death.
The People: People have sought shelter within the countryside, wilds, or cities. Each habitat resulting in different lifestyles. Countryside dwellers tend to focus on farming and keep to themselves by barricading themselves within farms, countryside house, and cabins. These are the ones most wary of being cannibals for cannibalism is a common act with these types. Dwellers within the wilds are nomadic and are constantly moving in order to stay ahead of the hoard but tend to become isolated loners that are hard of trusting others. They will travel light and always be ready to move on, they live off the land. City dwellers raid whatever, whoever, whenever and tend to establish a close-nit group that shares looted goods. Food for these guys are usually what they pillage but sometimes humans as well. Aside from the average joes there are organizations that set out to destroy or save America. These are the most influential organizations:
Grim's Order: Locked
The Republic: Locked
The Rebellion: Locked
The United Order Locked
The Slavers: Locked
The Grim Virus: The virus is a man-made weapon that attacks the brain and nervous system destroying and replacing the cells. The virus is spread by blood making most, if not all, blood within hospitals contaminated having zombie bites being the sole way of spreading. Very little is known about the virus but what is known is that it is man-made, it kills its victim before raising the dead body to feed off other living beings, it is incurable, less than one percent of the population is immune, it keeps its host in a preserved-like nature allowing it to survive from six months to three years depending on the strain of the virus, the virus must be infect or enter a wound in order to infect the person, and enters adult stage when host is obtained ending its lifetime within the brain reproducing and searching for a new host for its offspring. Infection last from two hours to two days it all depending on how much of the virus enters the body. Symptoms are in this order: Pain at the muscular level, fever, impaired of motor skills, impaired memories, schizophrenia, appearing of black veins, death, then finally reanimation.
The more advance the virus the better the virus preserves the body the reason being the more advance the virus the more control it has over the brain. A advance strain can almost completely control the body the way it is meant to be control meaning cellular reproduction, proper digestion, etc expanding the zombie's life expectancy.
The Zombies: Zombies are dead people that come back to life as mindless cannibals that kill and eat anything with flesh. Even though they are willing to eat animals they are not accustomed to the scent of animals making them hard to capture, not to mention their capabilities of surviving. Animals can be infected and turn into zombies as well but this is rare. Just like humans, animal have grown accustomed to surviving a zombie apocalypse knowing that sound is a key way of getting captured. With that aside, zombies will consume and kill any living being with flesh but they do not consume the dead they simply feed on the prey until heartbeat cease this is a sign to them to seek a new prey. This way of feeding also allows their prey to undergo zombification for if they were completely consumed there would be no body to zombify. Zombies can last between six months and three years it all depends on the strain of the virus the zombie has.
Basic
Crawlers: Zombies that have lost the ability to walk resulting in them crawling among the ground. They are slow moving but are able to sneak up on anyone and are much harder to locate or identify as dead. They tend to be located hidden out of sight, out of mind or in the middle of hoards. they tend to be weak aside from their firm grip and strong bite. They track by sound and smell.
Shamblers: The average fast walking zombies that roam in hoards. Mindless zombies that has a range of strengths but their sole strength being their numbers. They track by sound and smell.
Banshees: They resemble shamblers but have their vocal cords entirely intact and are able to emit a high pitch scream that stun anyone within fifteen feet and draws in zombies within five miles. They also have acute hearing being able to hear the very breathing of its prey even among a bunch of moaning zombies. Aside from that they are the same as shamblers. They track by sound and smell.
Advance (Locked)
Special (Locked)
Character Sheet: Use this character sheet and fill out everything, include as much detail as possible especially regarding things like luggage and things they keep on their person. Characters will die, I will allow you to have three characters you can use them all up now to have three characters simultaneously or later in case your character dies. Will open up spots when characters die off or the story progresses to the next chapter.

Re: Zombie Apocalypse: Awakening
Unfortunately guys I'm going to have to pull out of this awesome RP. Workload just increased and I won't be able to commit. It would be unfair for me to join and then not post and keep everyone behind.
Sorry once again. I'm sure you guys will do great and have an awesome time RPing.
