P E R S O N A L I T Y :The doctor can, at best, be called eccentric. In truth he's something of a spastic genius. He can never sit still and his mind often jumps between topics so quickly that he loses track of the conversation and simply starts a new one in an unexpected manner. His lack of an attention span means he's a horrible person to talk to. He rarely ever even remembers what he was saying only a moment ago. However, despite his unstable personality he is outstandingly adept at the study of animals. His interests in the hybrids are so varied and intrusive that one might go so far as to call them perverse. Dr. Preston is a paranoid man, but he also often takes unnecessary risks in the name of his research—such as taking the hybrids on a trip to the beach. He is fond of his hybrids, but at the same time he seems not to care whether most of them survive in the wilds of Yellowstone. They say he's on the search for something, but if he does have a purpose in all of this chaos, then no one knows what it is.
B I O G R A P H Y :It began at the San Diego Zoo: one of the most popular tourist destinations for children and adults alike. Seven years ago Dr. Liam Preston began working at the famous San Diego Zoo. His plans were exceptionally innovative, not to mention morally bankrupt. Dr. Preston wanted to experiment on the animals, but the rest of the staff of the San Diego Zoo would never accept his ideas. He chose to conduct his experiments in the middle of the night. The result? Hybrids. Animals during the day, but humans during the night—creatures that retained their animalistic personalities, but also gained the understanding and emotional capabilities of humans. To Dr. Preston, they were beautiful creations.
Dr. Preston was ecstatic about this development, but the animals were another matter altogether. Despite their new found abilities they were still stuck within the San Diego Zoo. Not only that, but they were easily able to escape their cages and mingle with one another. The predators bullied the prey and things slowly grew out of hand. And so Dr. Preston let some of the zookeepers in on his secret, trusting them to help him keep the hybrids under control during the night. With his deepest secret being shared with others, things were bound to go wrong eventually. Five years after his arrival at the San Diego Zoo, his facilities were raided by the government and his experiments were locked away for study.
One by one, the experiments continued to die off. The government was unable to recreate the magic that Dr. Preston had created. It seemed like the hybrid species was going to die out completely, but one year after their imprisonment the last of the remaining hybrids—led by the black panther, Zuhuru—they managed to escape along with Dr. Liam Preston. They fled to the wild expanse of Yellowstone National Park. A new lab was secretly constructed and Dr. Preston locked himself inside along with Zu, becoming reclusive and more unstable than he had been before. Liam freed the hybrids up to shift forms whenever they chose. He still created more hybrids, but he no longer attempted to control the animal nature of the beasts. They were allowed to roam free, with only a shock collar on to keep them from wandering outside of Yellowstone.
