Hello, this thread is posted in order to discuss the topic of Halfbreed Wolves and Interpack mingling. First things first, Interpack Relationships are considered taboo to the majority of the Packs. They are heavily, frowned upon and are often met with alienation and sometimes violence. Of course this was pre-war sentiment and it seemed in the years following the outbreak of war, there has a been a rise in Interpack relations and Halfbreed births.
Some Avira Sociologists believe their are number of reasons for this sudden spike and one is the ever-growing death rate. Since this war has continued beyond all other preconceived notions of longevity, the latest census from many participating Packs have shown marked decreases in overall populations. Though some are so severe, like the Kamaria, facing endangerment and possible extinction. So with the number of Purebreds and standard relations being lowered it's forcing wolves to secure procreation through Interpack relationships.
While the Pack of their ancestors do live on, it raises questions of ethnicity, and even sovereignty. One theory is that if the war does continue a new Pack may rise, a Hybrid Pack that could threaten the existence of the Pure Packs. One theory even goes to say that after the Great War has concluded an new war, a Race War, will take it's place. The Halfbreeds will seek to be recognized as equal to all other Wolves whilst the Purebreds will deny their claims to any rights and liberties they hold.
Another theory holds the belief that the original Seventeen Packs will be disbanded as the rise of a Superpack takes it's pack. This shall occur once the Purebreds die out leaving only the Halfbreeds to mate with other Halfbreeds eventually creating a Mono-Ethnic Wolf. A breed of Wolf that has connections to all the Elements of Nigerius thus no longer facilitating a need to have the many Packs we have today.
Another reason for the increase in Halfbreeds and Interpack relationships are the amount of Wolves sent off to war in foreign lands. Obviously, Male Wolves of their Pack are far away from the many eligible mates found back home. The need to procreate in order for our race to survive is an impulse that is incredibly hard to resist. Out in the battlefields of the Great War it is uncertain if a soldier will live or die and that fear could lead to some to foster families even if it's with foreigners. This coupled with genuine sexual desire and ease of interactions with said foreigners is the driving force behind this spike.
________
While Interpack Relationships are treated with disgust and often unrecognized as a proper marriage, it is nothing compared to the cruelty and resentment towards the Halfbreeds. Where Parents could hide their forbidden romances, a Halfbreed cannot hide from what they are. At a young age they are treated with hate, discrimination, and sometimes fear for what they are. Ostracized from all Packs Halfbreeds live an incredibly harsh life and are forced to become Omegas or Outcasts. Sometimes Parents have been known to kill their Halbreed Pups in order to hide their shame or spare them from an unforgiving reality. While at other times they are forced out in to their own before they are even ready.
Uncommonly, Halfbreeds are raised by their parents to become members of a society that both hates and fears them. Yet it is undeniable that Halfbreeds do posses talents and skills that other wolves do not have. These strengths have often been exploited by others for personal gains leading many Halfbreeds to become mercenaries, assassins, and criminals. This is quite a common fate for most other employers will deny Halfbreed Wolves jobs that any other Wolf could earn. Despite all the contempt and mistreatment there are some progressive Wolves that do accept Halfbreeds. This is often found in the Jivanta, Kita, or Aven Packs were there are communities of Halfbreeds. Though some cases of acceptance have been documented in the Arlyne, Avira, and Zalika Packs.
While Halfbreeds do have impressive skills including the ability to wield two Elements they do have notciable weaknesses. For instance their connections to these dual Elements aren't as strong as their parent's connections. For instance an Tenneth and Avira Halfbreed can command fire and wind and could use both to great effect. Except their fire can never burn as hot or as long as a Purebred Tenneth nor could their wind blow as far or as strong as an Purebred Avira. Yet the ability to mix Elements provides defensive and offensive attributes that are difficult to counter; including an unique immunity towards replications, such as from the Seti Pack's natural abilities.
