Art Club offers visual art experiences for both the serious art student as well as the student who just wants to enjoy and appreciate art. Activities include such projects as the creation of the school's t-shirts handed out to all students at the beginning of each school year. Taking field trips that enhance the members' art interests, such as our annual trip to the Xiem Clay Center to work with master level potters on the wheels, hand-building, and glazing plus other enlightening experiences make art fun for all members. The club volunteers for local organizations to promote the arts in various ways such as face painting, window painting, and arts advocacy. The Art Club works very hard to fundraise as well so that they can take trips to broaden they're artistic horizon beyond what is possible in the school setting.

Prepare for the New York National High School Model United Nations Conference where members represent a country in a mock United Nations format. Model United Nations is an authentic simulation of the UN General Assembly, UN Security Council, or other multilateral body, which introduces students to the world of diplomacy, negotiation, and decision making. At Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors of countries that are members of the UN, from Argentina to Zimbabwe. The students, better known as “delegates”, debate current issues on the organization’s vast agenda. They prepare draft resolutions, plot strategy, negotiate with supporters and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the UN’s rules of procedure – all in the interest of resolving problems that affect the world. Before playing out their ambassadorial roles in Model UN, students research the particular global problem to be addressed. The problems are drawn from today’s headlines. Model UN delegates learn how the international community acts on its concerns about peace and security, human rights, the environment, food and hunger, economic development, and globalization. Outdoor education is an important part of Buckley student life. Each off-campus experience is designed to align with topics students encounter in their academic programs. During these trips, students learn about the environment and how human beings benefit from and affect it. They also build leadership and teamwork skills, learn to value their community, and form and deepen their friendships.
Each trip includes a variety of activities and educational experiences. Experienced counselors and teachers facilitate learning about the natural world and encourage critical thought and informed action towards responsible and sustainable living. As with all good teaching, our outdoor education trips are designed to inspire curiosity about and appreciation for each unique environment.

In Middle School, the responsibilities of leadership are increased as students help plan events, assist with admission events, and preside at assemblies and other student functions. The focus is on leadership training with a heavy emphasis on problem-solving at the weekly lunchtime meetings. Annual elections are held in the spring for president, vice president, and four representatives from each class in grades six through eight.
The Upper School Student Council elects officers and grade-level reps each year and plans and oversees school and grade-level events, including assemblies, Spirit Week, and the Buckley Student Leadership Conference. Officers and representatives also work to build school spirit and involvement. Upper School representatives and the executive board are encouraged to take a class entitled “Leadership in the 21st Century,” a full-credit class focusing on all aspects of the history of leadership and techniques of good leadership.
