This tournament was originally known as The Triwizard Tournament, which was a magical contest held between the three largest wizarding schools of Europe: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Durmstrang Institute, and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, each school being represented by one Champion. Selected Champions compete in three tasks — traditionally judged by the Headmasters or Headmistresses of the competing schools — designed to test magical ability, intelligence, and courage. Champions competed for the honour and glory of winning the Tournament, for the Triwizard Cup, and a monetary prize.

The Tournament was notorious for being extremely dangerous: many champions having died while competing, and it was discontinued at some point in or after 1792, due to the high death toll.

In 1994, the Tournament was revived with restrictions in place in an attempt to stop potential deaths. One of these restrictions was that all applicants had to be over the wizarding age of majority (which is 17), or else they would not be allowed to apply to be Champion. The 1994 Triwizard Tournament is famous for having had four competing Champions, and for also having ended in tragedy with the death of Cedric Diggory and for the Rebirth of Lord Voldemort. No subsequent tournaments were held following Cedric's death.

Until now...

In the past decade, Hogwarts have opened their doors back to the idea of a TriWizard Tournament, of sorts. The rules and regulations have since been both strictly enforced as well as made to accamodate the school since it is now simply a tournament against the Four Houses within the school's walls.

The rules have also reinstated that there is two teams per House. The Teams consist of two students from their respective house. The goal is not only to prove themselves and make a name for themselves among their house, but just as much to learn how to work together in dangerous situations. The rules for the new tournament are as follows:

1). No one under 16 may enter the tournament. Anyone who tries to enter their name into the goblet of fire will be immediately disqualified from any future entries in the future when they are of age.

2). You’re in the Tournament for the long haul. You’ve been warned that it’s dangerous and to sign up at your own risk, and that’s the end of it. If you step out into the arena and decide that you’d really rather not face that ghastly beast from the depths of Satan’s underworld toilet, that’s just too darn bad. The moment you put your name in and your name is called from the goblet, you are binded to the tournament and no way of getting out of it, unless your life is on the line where you can signal for help/give up your position and placement in the Tournament. Which is immediate disqualification for the student in question.

3). This ties in with rule two, if your name is called forth, and you refuse to compete, you will be disqualified from any future tournaments. If you aren't sure about entering, yet put your name in anyway, you better consider the chances of being roped into the Tournament anyway. Which means, even if you want to back out, someone else cannot replace your spot as their name wasn't called from the magical goblet.

4). No matter what terrifying and brutal creatures one may come across in the tournament, as it is tailored to those who are participating, they must find some way of overcoming these challenges. Students are allowed to find ways before hand of how to come up with a possibility of helping them advance in the next stage of the tournament. But if any form of cheating is taken note of, said student(s) will be punished and taken out of the challenge.

5). This also goes along with the fourth rule. If a challenge is made aware to the participants ahead of time, they can have up to twelve hours to try and come up with a sollution. Example A, if a challenge such as swimming to the bottom of a large body of water were to occure, the students could figure out a way of helping them to their goal. Whether it be a spell, potion, or even a magical herb could be used. As long as they figure out a way to complete the task, that is all that is asked of them.

6). There will be a total of Four tasks/challenges, and the students are expected to move on from one to another after completion within 24 hours. If there is any reason why students are stuck on one challenge while the others have already completed their assigned task, the challenge will continue for those students until they finish their goal, unless they give up or are pulled from the tournament for the safety of the students involved.

7). Lastly, even if the students teammate were to either perish in the Tournament or injured to the point of where the student in question must withdraw for their own safety and well being, their teammate would still be in the running for the final event of the Tournament unless they too are pulled out from the event. It is a challenge to see who the winner of the Four Houses are, after all.

1). The first challenge will be one to test their resilience, strength, and magical capabilities as they will be put up against a very strong and angry magical creature. All four teams, with two students each, will have to work together to complete their goal that is set before them as they try to retrieve a certain item from within the pit. As long as one of the students is able to retrieve said item, and both are able to escape from the chamber then the challenge is brought to a close for that team and they are added to the leaderboard. As well as being given their direction to the next challenge, if they manage to figure the puzzle out.

2). Their second challenge will put their fears to the test as the teams will be forced to figure out a way of retrieving something from the bottom of the Black Lake which hangs over the Slytherin Common Room. Whatever way each left over student manages to get down there to their goal, it doesn't matter. Spell, potion, herbs. Whatever way they manage to figure it out will determine how easy or hard of a time they will have, especially if they manage to get past the creatures that live down below the surface of the dark lagoon...

3). Their next challenge will test the participants speed and fast reflexes as they will have to play a form of Magical Capture the Flag. Each team will have to collect their respective colored flag from a variety of creatures that can turn invisible upon disturbing their nests. Once the students retrieve said flag, they must make it back to the base with the flag in hand, as well as their teammate to qualify. While this test may sound easy, it is anything but. From having to get these creatures to hand the flags over, either by force of just ripping the flag away (which would result with an angry and upset magical creature that can turn invisible) or managing to befriend the creature to hand the flag over if possible. It will test their ingenuity, patience, and ability to communicate not only with their teammates, but the creatures as well.

4). Their fourth and final task which leads into the real and final test which is a giant maze that leads to the real prize and goal of the Tournament. The Hogwarts House Cup. But, to even get to the maze, the teams that still remain, will be forced to spend two days in the Forbidden Forest. But, not only must they survive the Forest and the creatures that dwell in there, they must also collect items or even a strand of hair or fur from a creature that is on a list that they are given to bring back and make into a potion. Which, upon completion will teleport the students back to the castle where they will be given their orders of the final stretch of the task. The maze, where the real victor of the challenge will be revealed, as only one can come out on top. Or so they believe...
