Hi guys. Thanks for checking out my new RP. As you might be able to tell if you’ve already read it, it’s heavily inspired by tabletop rpgs. Specifically one called Spaceship Zero written by Toren Atkinson and Warren Banks. It’s a weird little ttrpg published in 2000 that went mostly under the radar, but did have a punk album released alongside it with the same name.
I plan to run this relatively free form, with major GM events that match the story/sequence beats of the original ttrpg’s story. Don’t worry hugely about the game mechanics/attribute scores/perks if you don’t want to. They’re just there to link it to the ttrpg and maybe inspire some things your character might be able to do.
If you couldn’t tell the aesthetic is retro sci fi. Think Fallout if instead of nukes killing everything, we went into space and bad stuff happened there. Think Flash Gordon, Forbidden Planet, an obliviously idyllic/slightly sexist “nuclear family” world populated by camp heroes and lots of ray guns. 1950s sci fi.
There is also going to be a healthy dose of sci fi horror to contrast the campness.
We’ll be writing in third person.
I have plans to integrate this more seamlessly with Gateway's chat mechanics, but that's going to come later.
There are three archetypes I have yet to implement, as they come in a story beat that would make no sense in the introduction phase. Just know that something very early on happens that really gets the world into gear. I highly recommend you make your character(s) crew of the Spaceship Zero, as that is the primary focus and will be the primary driving force of the plot.
Thank you so much for reading. Let me know if this was absolutely cringeworthy to read, I didn’t intend to write the whole front page IC but it just sort of made sense to me XD It was fun to try and bend the fourth wall like that.
Anyway. Talk in the other forum(s). Send me a pm. Go ahead and pump out a character sheet. SpaceCorp™ needs you. Now plug your jets, set phasers to stun and prepare for boarding. It’s time to blow up some meteor dust!
