Ez's father doesn't ask much of Ez. he's a distant figure, and she has only exacerbated this distance for the sake of keeping her half-siblings from feeling threatened by any potential care her father may have for her. but when he insisted upon her building a relationship with the 'fae princess,' allegedly for political reasons, she reluctantly acquiesced. she didn't think much of it initially, and making her way into the Bri's life was made significantly easier due to the fairy's trusting and warm nature. the two are opposites in many ways, and Ez has often found herself envying everything that Bri has- loving parents, the freedom to pursue her dreams, a view of the world uneclipsed by cynicism. the two grew into dear friends quickly, and somewhere along the way, Ez almost forgot that her father initiated the relationship in the first place- she isn't there for her father anymore, she's there for Bri, in all her brightness. there's certainly a slight guilt there, for not being honest about her initial intentions, but since there isn't really any harm, she's never been overtly plagued by it- what she is plagued by is the growing of her feelings, and how Bri makes her heart flutter like fairy wings.

Ez doesn't really know enough about vincent to form much of a solid opinion but from what she has seen, he seems like a decent guy (not to mention his coffee is bangin'). That said, there is an undeniable elephant in the room every time that Iza drags her over to Vincent's little establishment- they can sense the shadow magic in one another, and Iza has subsequently recognised that Vincent's relationship with shadow magic is something he keeps on the down-low. She's hardly the sort to gossip about it, but her tightlipped-ness has far from erased the ~off vibes~ that tend to show up when they are around one another.

she's spent her life stifling herself for others, and this form she has moulded herself into is far from her favourite person. her sense of self, is vague at best, and she seldom can tell where the charade ends and the 'real ez' begins. or if this is it. the real ez, in all its rebel child posturing and rampant self-loathing, hidden by sardonic humour and a taste for danger. it's not a pretty picture, but she has learned how to fake a smile, and, when in situations that allow her to blossom, her confidence and leadership shine in a way that remind her of her good qualities. it would just be nice if those moments came round a bit more often, with no strings attached.

"so that's her name? uh... yeah. very weird and kinda creepy, at least those were the impressions i got from our sole interaction."
Ez has only met Violet once, and it was hardly a case of immediately hitting it off. Violet appeared before Ez when the latter was halfway through a frozen strawberry faequiri, and Ez immediately noted the intense shadow magic energy that rediated from the woman. This alone wasn't enough to bother her, of course, but Violet's cryptic reassurances about Ez "not having to obey her father" and it being time for Ez to "leave the matters of the infernal realm behind her" left Ez sufficiently confused. It was about a month after she had initiated contact with Briar, which added to the intrigue, but nothing ever came of it, and Ez has since grown to remember the whole situation as a "hey, remember that weird thing that one time?" type of memory.

there aren't many people who possess enough patience to handle someone like Iza, nor are there many people who peak Iza's curiosity. the vampire considers themselves one of the most interesting and unique things on the planet, and thus they have difficulty finding specimens interesting enough to catch their prolonged attention. a demon-human hybrid, however, was enough to at least raise a brow, and initially Iza viewed Ez with the same curiosity a zoologist might do an unrecognisable animal. but then the two got to chatting, and Ez rightfully called her out, and Iza deftly learned that Ez's heritage is in fact one of the least interesting things about her. similarly, Ez found Iza was a lot more than the galaxy-brained weirdo she is famous for being.

Ez and Jamie's relationship was doomed from the start, because what drew them together was ultimately the same thing that pushed them to split. They were, and are, just far too similar to one another. perhaps, in another, rosier world, their similarities could have pushed them to grow together; to acknowledge their wounds and maladies, and seek out help alongside one another, with the other as moral support, and a helping hand. but alas, in this world, there were and are too many conversations they were not ready to have. one cannot grow without some degree of willingness, and the two of them, when together, only seemed to settle into their mutually stubborn stuntedness. they've grown apart since then, but Ez genuinely cares for him, and fervently hopes that he doing well now, in all the ways that she isn't.

iza loves briar; the fairy is sweet and friendly, and staggeringly pretty, so how could she not? she's probably flirt with the fairy considerably more often, if not for the fact that her dear friend ez is so clearly falling in love with the girl, whether she realizes it or not. and iza is a lot of things, but she's no snake... well. not most of the time, anyway. and certainly not to her bestie. but long story short, briar is great, and iza is smart, so she can clearly see that briar is great.

Charlie can't quite remember how they met, but they instantly clicked. Briar doesn't mind Charlie's constant requests for stories of the fae world, and the two of them frequently go in search of information to help Charlie develop her skills. Both have a knack for getting themselves into trouble, but they're also well able to get themselves out of the trouble.

The royal fairy came in like a comet into their lives. She was so many things all in one, she was a different friend for each fragment of the naga. When Arlo and Pari broke up, Briar and Arlo grew closer and while Briar was still their friend - it was clear who she chose in the break up. Even so, Briar made time for them. Going out with Briar and Iris helped Pari get out of her slump, their cheer infectious. Katari and Briar brought out the best and worst in each other, hyping each other’s worst behavior. Katari loved getting dressed up with Briar, trying on each other’s clothes, doing each other’s make up, hooking up. Girl things.

Pari first met Iris when they had come for treatment at the commune. The girl was quite literally sunshine incarnate, the effect she had on Pari’s empathic abilities was like a straight line to serotonin. Her parents became enamored with the girl who would ask her all the questions about human’s history in Pangaea, a subject her mother literally had her doctorate in. She was one of the few people her parents trusted her with wholly, even allowing Pari to stay entire weeks at a time. Her healing touch was therapy for the fragments. After losing their one constant, the fragments shifted to Iris as a tether. Unfortunately she wasn’t around much often but when she was, Pari was all but glued to her.

None of the fragments ever seemed to connect to Charlie. Not that they don’t get along or like each other. Charlie is as much a part of the friend group as any one of the fragments were. She just always seemed to be more Arlo’s friend. When the fallout of the breakout happened and they had to move home with their parents, they wouldn’t ever see Charlie unless it was through someone else. They’d go to her shows, Katari loved it especially - but they never really grew close.

Arlo was the first person to treat the fragments as individual identities, he was their best friend first and foremost. His parents were one of their many doctors, but Arlo had learned how to handle the different fragments all on his own. He was good for Pari. It was young love, chaotic and intense and freeing. He looked out for her so she could live for once. But things change, people with them. They moved to Midgrasp together, her parents maintaining guardianship and allowing it on a trial basis. A couple meltdowns and 8 months later she had to move home and while they tried to make things work - it just didn’t. At this point their friend group was so entangled, they couldn’t ignore each other if they tried. Not to mention that their parents still call Arlo when they need him to intervene when one of the fragments has an episode. They had spent years with this person in their life and now he was practically a stranger. He got the place, the new best friends, the now perfect life and he’s happy in a way she could never make him. Meanwhile, they can’t even stabilize their own identity without being able to use him as a tether. But, maybe that’s for the best. They want him to be happy after all, all they ever did was hold him back.

The doc as Katari liked to call her. All the fragments had met Ziran at one point or another, various treatments drawing them out. At this point Ziran is a pro at helping maintain the balance between the fragments and keep the darker pieces submerged in the Under. The doc carries herself with an air of confidence that Pari envies, Katari admires and truthfully even scares Sawyer a little. Katari likes to take a lead on their appointments because she enjoys the doc’s company, plus likes to show up in a new outfit pretending like she’s not fishing for compliments.

vee: "Not going to lie, he might be my favorite."
katari: "We get it, you hate my clothes."

When Sebastian joined their friend group, it just seemed like he’d been there all long. He just meshed well. Soon enough, it seemed like he meshed even better than her. Things were just off, though Pari couldn’t quite put her finger on why (or didn’t want to, rather). Katari pretended not to notice for the most part, maintaining some semblance of balance in all their collective friendships. Vee missed the nights out with Seb most, not that they didn’t still happen but they were fewer and far between. The morning after they all crashed at Arlo, talking with Seb. A lot of people knew Vee, knew his interests, but Seb was the first one who really understood the complexities of Vee’s identity. Often surfacing wearing one of Katari’s outfits, Seb would hand over his jacket without question knowing it would provide Vee comfort. Seb sees Vee in a way many others don’t, he wished things hadn’t changed and they could still have their late night/early morning talks.

Not much can be said about the reformed demoness. Katari’s opinion of her entirely depends on Briar’s opinion of her. At the end of the day Katari just wants someone who makes her friend happy. Pari on the other hand has her reservations about Ez. Not that she doubts her feelings for Briar, that’s always been unquestionable. There is this block that Pari can’t seem to break with Ez. With most, her empathic abilities can feel invasive - but with Ez it’s like reading another language. The other fragments don’t seem concerned about it but Pari has her reservations.

Giles was a TA to their mother when they were only 15, 16 years old. Vee would come by their mum’s office, often timing it when he knew Giles would be there. Not that he ever knew what to say, often stumbling over his own words but Giles was always kind. He’d return on campus for guest lectures, but besides that once he graduated neither Vee or the other fragments saw him again until Briar and him became friends. Vee reverted back into a sputtering puddle, the other fragments often locking him out from slipping back into the under. He still can’t think of what to say to Giles, turning to books as a way to connect to him. He’d ask what Giles was reading, usually already have the book shipped by morning to casually mention it next time he saw Giles. Giles would give him more recommendations, Vee would consume them and come back with more thoughts to receive more recommendations. It became like their own private book club, always the highlight of Vee’s week.

When Briar and Ez fell into together, Iza was just a part of the package. It would end up being the four of them a lot, with Briar and Ez fawning over one another and Iza and (usually) Katari occupying one another’s time. It never felt like Katari had to make small talk with Iza. She was always unapologetically herself. There was an ease to her brilliance, it never made Katari feel inadequate - rather enriched by their time together. They always seemed to dance that line, but any time the moment arose Katari always faltered. Iza made her soft, softness made Katari fade - made Pari come to the light. It was easier to just keep that wall up, but she could enjoy the view in the meantime.

Jamie was the bad decision they all loved to make. He was a fun distraction, someone to blow off time with. Jamie was like an all-in-one perfect package rebound, fun time, familiarity, drugs and a super clean apartment to crash at. You didn’t have to talk about things like strings, you could just enjoy yourself. It started as a connect, Arlo used to be Katari’s personal pharmacy and they needed a replacement. Arlo had always known which drugs would have adverse effects on them, Jamie didn’t. It was all fun and games until the other fragments started to catch on. Sawyer had been able to discreetly take the light when the drugs submerged the more passive personalities into the under. They asked Jamie to buy them a cache of the drugs, hoping to use it to take their place as the primary fragment again. Jamie didn’t know enough to know about Sawyer so he didn’t think anything when they asked. The next time Jamie saw Katari he offered her the drugs the fragment he perceived as Tanvi has asked for. Tanvi immediately denying such, the fragments were able to quickly put together that it must have been Sawyer. They warned Jamie not to trust any fragment who would ask for the drugs. Sawyer eventually returned and when Jamie denied her the drugs, she attacked Jamie. He managed to trap her in the bathroom, calling Arlo for help. It was embarrassing for Pari and Katari, but Jamie never made a big deal out of it. It was just easy to kick it with him, and while Pari felt a bit guilty knowing Iris’ feelings toward him - they were in desperate need of something uncomplicated.

Briar has always been in love with the idea of being in love, even before moving to Pangaea; she has always loved that thrill of a new relationship and its honeymoon phase, the way your heart just feels like it's going to burst, but you still have that wave a calm wash over you. But when she was finally on her own and tried to find that, it got... messy. She was hopping from person to person, just trying to find someone to fill that space. And when Briar began to spiral, there she was, just like clockwork. On paper, Ez and Bri shouldn't be friends. But, the demoness was enthralling and exciting, she keeps Briar on her toes unlike anyone else and she makes her nervous and completely sprung and Bri loved it. She's brilliant, and ambitious, and annoyingly selfless, and somehow can level the fairy out. And, yes, people have said Bri might be seeing an idealized version of Ez. But, she doesn't see it that way. She knows Ez isn't perfect, but that doesn't really matter to her. She knows that they're both completely different people, that's what she likes about their friendship, and that's why she doing her best not to force things to happen. If Ez even wants to be with her at all (a thought she always seems to doubt in the back of her mind.) But, that doesn't mean she not going to at least keep that door open. She, for once, is just taking it slow and is completely content with being good friends until they're both in good (enough) places. She wants to be with the demoness, but if that ever happens, she doesn't want it to be something they rush into because they're afraid of being alone or because they're bored or drunk, only for them to poke fun at years later.

Conveniently located, Tian Guan Pharmaceuticals was one of Violet’s favorite finds. The owner doesn’t ask questions and has yet to have failed any request - no matter how obscure. Truthfully, the owner possesses some knowledge that is necessary to the Way. Though she wasn’t looking forward to it, Violet expected she’d have to use force to acquire it. It would be a shame to lose such a great supplier - but such is life.

So often those with infernal ancestry had their lives predetermined by others, she only wanted to offer a way out. If nothing else but the chaos. Whether or not Ez had taken her advice had yet to have been revealed, though all in good time.

Years of imprisonment and unstable powers made books her only friends. There’s a confidence when you possess so much knowledge - there is no opinion she values higher than her own. When others are uncertain or may fear her, she knows her way is the right one.

He could enact acts of wrath and devastation that could wreak havoc on generations upon generations, yet here there were still standing. He found beauty in the mundane more than any mortal she'd ever met. He found charm in her intensity. She had never felt as whole as she did the day they signed their contract. He was desire, decadence, divinity all in one. The nature of their dynamic was already wrought with tension. She was the one who held the contract and yet all she really wanted was to please him, though she had a strange way of showing it sometimes. All things were to be clear in due time, however.

Violet's chance encounter's with the dhampir was left much less to chance than she let on. He was well connected, just enough on the fringe to keep it discrete. There was something primal about it all, the hunt. They'd end up hooking up in some bathroom stall, the pounding of the bass from the dance floor and some bloke doing blow off the sink in the background. She suspected he enjoyed the mystery. He would play his part in her game, but she enjoyed toying with him in the meantime. Not that he was suffering - at least not yet.

Certain rituals call for blood of a specific origin; virgin, royal, fae. While Violet could acquire them on her own she prefer not to draw unwanted attention to herself. Stella was a delightful find. Something about Ariosas made it house some of the most attractive vendors. Not that Violet ever had the opportunity to enjoy Stella, though not for a lack of chemistry.
