The One - The human God is considered by believers to be the one true deity, creator and ruler of the cosmos. All other Gods are looked upon as Demons or fictions. The existence of the One was first revealed to the prophet Calum during the darkest days of the Dragon Wars. According to the Iluth, the Holy book of the faith, Calum and his people were freed by God and lead out of the Dragons' slave camps. With the One at their side they mounted a resistance and drove the Dragons from the Old World. Or so the story goes.
In the Iluth little detail is given to the One and his personality varies. At some times he is a wrathful God, at other times serene and peaceful. Although assumed to be male by modern clerics, the Iluth never mentions God's gender nor appearance. In the few instances the One reveals himself to Calum, he does so in the form of a blinding light.
Most theologians have agreed that the One has withdrawn from the world, though, God's reasons for doing this differ in most accounts. Many Clerics claim that the One values free will and remains at a distance so than men will be forced to find their own way. Others say that it is to instill faith in humanity, but a few fear that something man did so offended God, that he abandoned them.
Shining Host (Sidreon, High Elves) - The elven royal family are considered Gods by their people, the so called Shining Host. Their deified status was secured long ago in the mists of prehistory and is verified by the arcane power which flows through their veins. Where as other elves must study magic, the royals are born with an innate arcane instinct. Although there is no quantifiable difference in the magic they practice, their talents allow them to cast spells at the flick of the finger and master complex arts beyond even the most learned wizards.
By the law commoners may not look upon the Sidreon and they travel under veil to avoid this eventuality. Should someone of low birth catch an unlawful peek at a noble's true features, immediate execution is certain. Other high born families, some of whom attend and guard the royals, are exempted from this law, but must still show deference to the Shining Host at all times.
Since in myth the first High Elf was a women, the throne falls to the eldest female in the line. This matriarch will rule until she grows weary, she then passes on the throne to her daughter and enters a deep magical slumber. Preserved by enchantment, immortal and ever-dreaming, she is entombed in a grandiose mausoleum along with her ancestors.
