I am somewhat curious about this; though I'm British, not American :p I had a few questions which I thought I'd throw out in general, since I think they'd be useful for any applicants to read:

1) What are the American equivalent of O.W.L's and N.E.W.T's? Just curious as to what qualifications students would be aiming for, and what years.

2) Are you looking for teacher characters yet? (I had in mind a teacher who would be British (I'm not sure my knowledge of American history and culture is good enough to play an American). She would have finished her N.E.W.T's at Hogwarts, continued studies after leaving and then travelled to American to join some kind of institution of international post-graduate studies in the USA, after which she accepted a teaching post.)

3) Do students call teachers 'Professor' or by some other title?

4) What dates did the events in the UK vs Voldemort take place? As in, the first book was released 1997, so was Voldemort defeated 2004, or instead of 1997-2004 was it 2000-2007 (release of final book)?

5) What was the US foreign policy with regards to Voldemort? (I'm assuming non-intervention... he's powerful and it's not our problem?)

1) Because Gaol Academy was modeled after Hogwarts at its conception, examinations would basically be about the same as at Hogwarts, with the O.W.L.s being administered at the end of the 5th year and N.E.W.T.s at the end of the 7th. (I simply am not as creative as J.K. Rowling when it comes to creating acronyms for the tests, so if anyone comes up with something good I am open to change here.) -- I'm glad you asked this, by the way, because I had intended on including classes and examinations information in the Student Handbook topic and I forgot to do so. Editing now!

2. Yes! Absolutely go ahead and submit a teacher character.

3. I am going to assume the teachers are called Professor unless the particular teacher has another title they wish to go by (i.e. Dr., Coach, Madame, etc.). So that is really up to you.

4. Yep, we'll go by the canon dates.

5. As far as Voldemort goes, the US would not have gotten involved in the affairs of the Eurpoean wizarding community until he directly impacted the US magical world.

I hope this satisfactorily answered your questions! Please let me know if you have any more. Also, I am open to hearing any ideas to make this better as well.

As we are all creative writers, and (as Rais very well knows) my creativity is on overdrive and can't be controlled, I will be (re)adding the Spelldex.

Since a lot of new people will probably read this, let me explain. All canon spells do exist in the US Wizarding World, but due to the situation regarding my creativity, I will be creating a Spelldex with new spells. I will also be adding new and interesting creatures, plants, potions, and magical objects for us to have fun with.

And yes, me and Rais both support having multiple characters.

Speaking of which, I will get to work on those. Then il start adding the rest.

Anyways, as you probably noticed, the Spelldex is up. :D

I suspect Rais is working in the Magical history thread, so I will leave that alone for now. It's that, or he went to work. If nothing happens for the next two hours it's likely work.

Though he might just be making Eden. Well, we will know soon enough.

Also, I support making characters that are related to each other. It's something that very few people actually do, which is a shame because it can make things more interesting. If you want to make a character related to any of mine in any way, feel free to ask. (They are already submitted, excluding a possible third I am thinking of making).

So, at a first glance I completely passed by this role-play because generally when I find any role-play with a combination of "Magic" and "school" they tend to end within and never actually go anywhere past the first day of school. Imagine my surprise when, out of pure boredom when waiting for a class to start, I decided to check this role-play out and find, shock beyond shock, detail and effort and creativity abound. Basically, this is my long way of saying "Oh my goodness, there is no way I'm not making a character for this".

I do have some questions, however, but they're more because I know you can answer that and I'm just intrigued by the amount of thought that went into this.

1) Are there inter house rivalries as strong as there are in Hogwarts? Or is the school typically less divided? If there are strong rivalries, does it mimic cunning v. bravery or is it something else entirely?

2) Does magic schooling in America, particularly at Gaol,start with first year students completely or do students in magical families, provided they're not squibs, go to elementary/primary schools in the magical community as well?

I know what you mean username. Not to mention most school RPs don't actually have any plot so much as....well, not quite sure what to call it. It's not good though.

But here, we are different. Different and interesting. Now for your questions:

1: Rivalry strength depends on who you ask. Different people(characters) will say different things. To some, they might see the Rivalries as non existent. To others, however, they can be fierce. There is always at least some friendly competition though...

2: it's like Hogwarts in that. Magical schooling typically starts with first years. Some do a bit of early studying though, but it's not official.

Thank you for answering my questions so promptly! And I think that that's all I have for now in way of questions, but I'm sure I'll think up more at some point in the future. I just love how fleshed out this all is; the fact that I actually had things to read to familiarize myself with this world was completely thrilling for me.

Was there a plan for a plot of sorts that would go into the roleplay? Like, was there a plan for something to happen at the school that cause the characters to go and investigate, for a lack of a better word? Or is it going to be solely based on what the players decided to do?

I also had a suggestion to make another OOC thread that was dedicated to the character's relationships with the other characters. They did this in my other RP and it's proven to be very helpful and it improves interaction among the players, so I just thought it'd be a neat idea, especially because of the amount of diversity among the students, they're houses and ages, etc.
