The Walking Dead

"Walkers, Biters, Zombies, Lurkers, Roamers, Geeks"

Image

Compiled is a list of things your character may or may not know yet. Act accordingly.

 PHYSICALITY: Walkers have basic motor functions and physical skills. They can walk, push, pull, climb, claw, grab, groan, and bite. They can smell, hear, see, feel, and taste. What they cannot do... is run, jump, open doors, swim, talk, use weapons or devices, understand words, convey emotions, or do a sudoku. While they are still able to carry out basic functions, their reaction time is severely decreased. However, they are incredibly strong and determined to do whatever it takes to get what they want. They have absolute pain tolerance and won't stop chasing something until they are distracted by another object, or killed.

 SOUND: Everything from a gunshot to the sound of somebody whispering. A walker's hearing is just as good as, if not better than, a normal person's. When they hear something, they will immediately stop whatever they were doing and gravitate towards that noise. Talk about ADHD.

 PEOPLE: Walkers are like me: all they care about is eating. Unlike traditional zombies, walkers aren't only after brains. They'll eat the body of and drink the blood of animals AND people whether they are alive or dead. Blood and guts, therefore, can be used as a wonderful piece of bait to lure the attention of walkers... (if you don't mind getting your hands dirty). However, the rotten smell of dead or decaying flesh isn't something walkers are attracted to. The smell, in fact, acts as a repellent if one were to cover themselves in it. This would make them otherwise undetectable by the walkers unless said person started acting suspiciously enough for the walkers to take notice.

 WEAKNESSES: The only tried and tested method of killing a walker is by severely damaging or destroying their brain. A walker's decapitated head could still be alive and functioning if the brain is still in one piece. This isn't too difficult to accomplish since they are slower, and less agile/coordinated than we are. They are easily distracted, often walking away from whatever attracted them in the first place for something more favorable. They can die from starvation if they don't eat enough.

 STRENGTHS: As mentioned before, the walkers are a determined bunch. They will stop at nothing to get what they want. They will claw and bite their way through doors and metal objects, regardless of the pain. They will come at you with everything they've got until they are killed. They are most dangerous in groups, but easily dispatched when alone or in small numbers. Walkers are extremely resistant to extreme weather conditions, but their muscles are still affected by the cold. They do not need a functioning heart or even enough oxygen to keep the brain active, meaning they can both breathe underwater AND sustain significant fire damage until their brain is destroyed.

 INFECTION: The infection is only spread through bodily fluids. A walker's blood or saliva would have to make its way into a person's bloodstream for the infection to take hold. The person would then have anywhere from 1-10 hours before they died and came back as a walker. Once infected, the person would experience a increasingly deteriorating physical and mental state in which they would suffer extreme cold and flu-like symptoms, including: a heightened temperature, chills, coughing, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, diarrhea, cramping, muscle tension, dry mouth, red eyes, insomnia, hallucinations, and violent hunger pains. Eventually the person's temperature would get to a point where they died, and they would come back as a walker within 1-10 minutes. The only known way to stop the infection is to amputate the bitten body part within the first minute or so of infection, before it has time to spread through the bloodstream.

EVENT

Day +2: "The Los Angeles Bombings"

On Day 2 of the outbreak, military officials organized a coordinated strike on several populated districts of walkers around the greater Los Angeles area. An unknown amount of civilian casualties were suffered as a result of the bombings. Scattered reports alluded to similar bombings in New York, Chicago, & Atlanta.

FACTION

"The Warden & His Merry Band of Convicts"

Image

Leader: Everett T. Bronson. Ironically dubbed "The Warden" by the convicts under his care, much to his satisfaction. He is a cold man, tempered only by his own code and reason. Through years of work he had made himself a King inside prison, and now that they are free again in this broken world -- his power knows no bounds. Above all else, he values justice -- and though territorial -- he is still conscionable. With the help of his fellow convicts, they were able to take over a fire station in the center of Hollywood. Here, Bronson and his followers assert their dominance over the land they see so fit to call their own. Not every convict was incarcerated on violent charges... but Bronson's gang will do whatever it might take to survive in this new world.

Size: Almost three dozen strong... and growing.

Strength: The convicts are comfortably armed with weapons, not to mention that many in their ranks are experienced with guns, knives, and just about every other weapon from their days as common criminals. They use many found object weapons that they've crafted, as well as crude homemade explosives.

History: During a routine transfer to another prison the inmates shuttle was overrun by walkers on the freeway and they escaped into the city. Released by their guard escort, Oliver O'Brien, they quickly fought their way to a fire station in Hollywood proper, fortifying it against the crazed outside world. Bronson immediately began organizing the prisoners, setting up protection and stocking up on supplies. Soon it became clear that whatever was happening was here to stay. His quick action likely led to their salvation and continued survival.

They have their lives. He has their loyalty.

FACTION

"The Capitols"

Image

Leader: Silas Quinn. He was one of the top music producers at Capitol Records, having worked with the likes of Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake, and many others in his days there. When the chaos started, panic and paranoia spread throughout the Capitol within minutes. Nobody knew what was going on... how severe this all was. Silas acted as quickly as he could, barricading certain wings of the building as the infection was unleashed across all floors. Him and a handful of others were able to regroup and re-take the building eventually.

Image

(Played by Idris Elba)

Size: 50+ People

Strength: Though they are great in number, their ranks are still filled with young and inexperienced interns, pencil pushers, editors, and other non-aggressive types. They have taken in several outsiders since the fall of the city -- more helpings hands to protect what's left of their tower. The Capitols are decently stocked with both munitions and food. Access to the Hollywood area has allowed them to find most essential supplies.

History: A scattered group of music industry personnel and random survivors from around Los Angeles. They now refer to themselves as the "Capitols" ... They cleared and fortified the tower as quickly as they could during the assaults, but the building took heavy damage during the bombings. As referenced before, it looked like somebody had cut a slice from a layered cake -- interior floors exposed like somebody took a huge bite out of it. But the Capitols are unlikely to have abandoned their home so easily.

FACTION

"HMS AMBUSH"

Image

Leader: Lieutenant Eva Clarkson. Up until the outbreak of the plague Eva was the Weapons officer onboard the HMS AMBUSH on her first round the world trip. The submarine was docked in San Francisco when the first major outbreak hit the city. She was Officer of the Watch at the time and watched in horror as the Living Dead began to consume the city. Confused and panicked shooting all over the harbour by other military personnel, police and heavily armed civilians led her to order the submarine loosed from its jetty with only a skeleton crew aboard. She ordered the submarine to submerge and watched through her periscope as the city burned.

She remained on station, hoping to pick up more of the ships company should they manage to survive and make it to the jetty but no one appeared. Only be monitoring American military channels was she made aware of the upcoming nuclear strike on the city.

The AMBUSH made for the open sea and watched from twenty miles away as the city was vaporized. Since then attempts to raise high command have failed and she has turned the submarine south towards Los Angeles in hopes of making contact with another military unit. Though she has never mentioned it, her twin brother was deployed to the region with a NATO special forces team and she hopes to locate him as well.

Image

(Played by: Demi Moore)

Size: 25+ People

Strength: They are aboard the latest and greatest hunter killer submarine in the known world. Able to stay underwater indefinitely thanks to water and air filtration systems and capable of carrying enough food for 98 crew for 3 months, the AMBUSH is probably the best place to wait out the coming nuclear fallout. The crew itself is considered some of the best and brightest in the submarine service for the Royal Navy. Most of them are young and upcoming members with prospects of promotion and few of them have stable home lives back home due to their long term deployments.

Like many warships, the AMBUSH is outfitted with the appropriate survival gear, weapons and other necessities needed to complete its operational requirements.

WAYPOINT

"The Metro Tunnels"
- Home Away From Hell -

Image

Location: The Heart of Hollywood. Hollywood Blvd & Highland Ave.

Story: Used by the main survivors during the first week of the infection. It provided suitable protection from the infected and others, as well as the eventual strafe bombing of the city. The group remained here until Day 9 when the Hollywood area was overrun by a herd of walkers migrating north towards the sound of San Francisco's nuclear demise. It was during this event that the group was separated and forced to find shelter until the environmental hazards outside had passed. The underground network is extensive, connecting railways all across the city. Rafiq and the others cleverly used these auxiliary access-ways to evacuate during the siege.

Tenants: Originally George, Niobe, Carl, Jessica, Annabelle, Samuel, Charlie; Joined later by Sarah, Molly & Rafiq, as well as Harper, Nathan, Tara, James, Steve, Wayne, Lillian, Jack, Dyomie, Natasha, Marie & Phillip.

WAYPOINT

"Fort Fallback"
- Amoeba Music Center -

Image

Location: Hollywood. Sunset Blvd, Near Vine St.

Story: Silas and the Capitols used this as a temporary home during and immediately after the military bombings on Day +2. They spent the following week clearing and refortifying the Capitol in preparation for their return home -- but they were forestalled when a group of armed assailants attacked the building. They have since been engaged in conflict with this group and have been forced to remain at Fort Fallback until they can secure the Capitol or reach a settlement with their enemies.

The building has a large warehouse out back, perfect for storing vehicles inside. There is also a fairly deep catacomb of record archives underneath the building. The Capitols has done much to convert the place into something with proper accommodations, crafting a mess hall, living quarters with bunks on the main floor, a make-shift infirmary upstairs near the offices, as well as gated perimeters on both alleyways adjacent to the building. It lies on an intersection with great lines of sight to the west and north.

Tenants: The Capitols & those they call friends.

EVENT

Day +9: "The Bay Bombing"

Near evening on the 9th day pending the infection, a bright burst illuminated the sky to the North as a nuclear warhead of unknown size and origin was detonated near the Bay area, devastating everything within its radius. In Los Angeles, the air turned toxic by nightfall-- murky ash blanketing its sprawling surface past dawn the next day. The walkers were left unaffected, but survivors were forced indoors for days on end until things cleared up outside.

This event happened in the middle of Season 2.

Season 3 begins three days later, after the most immediate of the nuke's effects have passed.
