The legends and stories of Ymeris are often handed down from the gods themselves, and are all recorded within the Great Pillar. The first, and most commonly known, is that of Ymeris's birth.
Creation
In the beginning, there was the universe.
It was barren, and it was intelligent.
It knew what it was, and what potential it could have. It created seven birds in its image, and a companion to go with them. They spread out throughout the universe, studying it and exploring it for itself.
They soon grew malcontent, though, and began to dream of things unlike themselves. Beings that could change the universe. The companion saw this, and sent a prayer across the stars, to the heart of the universe itself, and was answered- too late. Gods and goddesses were created.
The companion could not undo what the children had done, but it could stop them from making more, and so it sealed away the children- all but one. That one was clever, and escaped.
That child lead the dream-creatures that would follow it to one corner of the universe, and gave them a place of their own. It was as if children were leading each other in a game of make believe. They created people, not unlike humans, but of stone, and gave them the ability to move through the earth and to replenish its resources when they passed. They called them Iru'Talik, and among them, a King was numbered among the gods.
But then came a time when the children grew weary, and felt they had to rest. They packed up their toys- the world they called Ymeris- and put it to their dreams. They went deep underground, where they would be safe and warm, curled up like pups in a pile with their beloved Iru'talik, and they dreamt...
And while they slept, one final goddess was born of their dreams. The goddess of chaos, bringer of both joy and pain. She alone was awake while the others slept, and she was lonely for it. By this time, humans had already begun to journey across the stars, leaving their cradles and spreading out across the stars, but never that far. The goddess saw them, looked into their hearts... and saw a spark of chaos, a toy not of her own making, but of her own mind.
She lured them down with the promise of a new home, of riches, and they greedily seized upon it. They landed, and began to mine out the planet, tearing it asunder with their tools and technology. And yet the gods slept on... until they dug too deep. They had made the world so that it had a shell, a middle layer, and a core covered in water by the time the gods had enough energy to reawaken, fully grown now.
Infuriated with what this strange goddess had done, the others rampaged, and began slaying humans and the things they had brought, and rounded them all up. They chased down the chaos goddess, and tore from her back her wings, binding her with them and sealing her deep within the core of the planet. Her screams and rage made it hot, and the ocean there began to boil. They then turned to the remaining humans, and began to wonder what to do. Some were of a mind to slay them, but a single child stepped out, and crawled into one of their arms. Recognizing her as a sentient creature, and the others as worthy of life by extension, they felt hints of remorse. They changed many into other species, and tasked them with maintaining a balance on the fragile world.
Some, however, were reluctant, fearful that, although calm now, they could become enraged once more. These people, the gods took to the harsh surface, and created for them wagons, and the beasts known as yvalci. They tasked them with wandering the desert and traveling from place to place, tending the oases and making trade routes, dividing them up into five groups. Down below, they helped people to make seven towns. Of these, four were claimed by gods and goddesses.
