This is going to be the general discussion and OOC thread for "The Chosen Few: The Broken Order". If you have any questions to ask or if you just feel like talking about the RP this is the place to do it.

Hey there! This RP looks interesting, but I have a couple of questions. First, are there only humans or do other fantasy races exist? Relating to that, is there magic? Finally, is there anything specific you would like included in the character sheet? Thanks.

Hey, and thanks. Glad to see someone interested so soon! As for your questions.

1. Yes there are other races. Primarily there are Elves, of both the city and woodland variety, and Dwarves. There are of course other more feral races out there but for the most part these will be the only other "civilized" races in the RP.

2. Yes Magic does indeed exist in this world, but it isn't as flashy or grandiose as you would see in other fantasy works. Most magic requires rituals and lots of time to prepare, and Mages would be more akin to scholars than fireball hurling warriors. That is not meant to say that we won't see powerful magic on a larger scale later on, just that in this world that sort of power is rare.

3. Im about to upload a character skelly right now, but as far as details go just use your better judgement when making your character lol. I would like your history to include how he/she joined the Watchers, but dont force it. Also, feel free to deviate from the skelly and customize it however you want. Just try to include what is ask on it in your Character Sheet.

Well this does seem intriguing. Still on the fence about joining, but, predictably enough, I do have a couple of questions.

Firstly, is it necessary for my character to be part of the Watchers? While I get the point of them being in said order, I'm wondering if it would be plausible, and allowed, to make a tag-along character. Someone who'd join the Watchers on their quest, but isn't officially part of them.

Second, is there a certain line you don't want characters to cross if they've got magic? I won't spoil a whole lot on the idea I have in mind, but I'm aware that there are certain things you just can't or shouldn't do, whether that's impossible in the universe or simply because "The GM said so.", and I'd like to know my boundaries before I begin pushing them.

I believe I shall join this, but I do have some questions. What is the religion of the Order, and how closely tied to the mother church are they? Will a Watcher obey a priest without hesitation, or do they only obey the highest ranking church members? How tolerant are they? And how well trained are they in general? Also, about the other races, are they a non factor for the most part in the Civil War, or are they just biding their time to reclaim lands (Elves) or just loving the profit (Dwarves)?

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby RPG Junkie on Fri Nov 28, 2014 3:31 pm

Excellent questions, and im in the process of typing up some summaries that might answer some future questions one may pose.

@Byte
1. While I would like for all the characters to be Watchers, I will not turn away a willing RPer for wishing to make a Non-Watcher character. If you can discover some valid reason for your character to wish to accompany the Watchers and can logically explain how and why he is with caught up in the unfortunate events of the RP then go ahead. The story however will predominantly revolve around the surviving Watchers and their quest to restore Order to Calaris.

2. Magic in this world is for the most part still a mystery being unraveled. The knowledge of it that is used by Mages of the general populace is fairly low. A high level Mage may be able to summon forth artificial light and conjure a small flame to attack with, but there is no Mage known that has the power to destroy entire towns or whatnot. For example, a Mage may be shooting lightning from his hands to attack someone but after a few moments of continuous use he would be drained of energy.

@ImperatorAlpha
1. The Order of the Watchers follow the main religion of the world which is worship of the Divine Trinity. The Divine Trinity is made up of three gods. The Seeker who seeks out and collects souls of the dead, The Judge who weighs the good and evil residing in your heart before granting you access to paradise or casting you into Oblivion, and The Warden who guards over both planes of the afterlife. There is of course more to it than this, but this is just a basic rundown.

2. Historicaly, The Order of the Watchers was tied closely to the Church of the Divine Trinity but they were founded autonomously and have their own hierarchy of leadership. They did however defer to the Church before making rash decision that might damage the Church's reputation.

Prior to the outset of the civil war in Calaris the Church began to fear that the Order would act rashly against one or more of the warring lords, and without a King to reel the slighted leader in the Church may come under duress. The leaders of the Church decided shortly after the war began to excommunicate the Order to avoid such a situation. Despite this the Order still believes in the Divine Trinity, but the Church doesn't sanction or support their actions now.

3. The Watchers are and have always been a fairly small Order, when they were at their peak they would have only had 600 or 700 men. Presently, without a king to support them or Church backing their numbers would only reach about 200 men. Because of this small number individual members do have access to more exclusive training, therefore as a whole they are pretty exceptional in terms of combat.

4. To be a Watcher you are essentially becoming the sword arm of the Divine Trinity. Though it varies from individual to individual, most members are extremely pious and take the Orders edicts to heart. Blasphemors, especially of the Mage variety, tend to be dealt with swiftly and harshly but that is not to say there aren't exceptions.

5. The world the RP takes place in is predominantly Human. There are Elves and Dwarves mixed in amongst Human society, but as a whole their races stick to themselves.

The Elves mostly live in the vast woodlands to the North which is off limits to most of mankind. They have one large city built within the forest which they call the last bastion for the True-Elves and it is their the oldest of their race reside.

The Dwarves have been forging and providing weapons for most of the warring lords and are making a killing from the civil war because of it. Their king relishes the thought of profiting from human misfortune. Though many of the Dwarf nobles believe they too should join in the fighting before their kingdom too comes under attack.

I'd love to join, but first, I have to ask, what is the whole afterlife-situation like, because I was planning on having a character who WAS dead, but was raised by the Judge for some mission that he wasn't able to remember upon being revived(Or if the gods truly don't exist or you don't want my character meeting one of the gods, PM me on this in case it's a major plot point, it was merely a near-death experience and he was hallucinating). So, he joined the Watchers in the hopes of finding it again.
Don't piss me off. I will personally come to your house and tilt every painting I come across.

The afterlife in the world of our RP is divided up into three different realms. You have the Heavenly Plane where souls of the worthy reside, the Plane of Oblivion where the evil men and creatures are cast down, and the Astral Plane where the gods are. When you first die you appear in the Astral Plane, which is sort of like purgatory, then you are judged and sentenced. If your character died and was brought back there would undoubtedly need to be a very good reason since it would throw the natural order of the world off balance and the gods strive to keep order maintained.

However; if we go ahead and say your character did die and for whatever reason was revived instead of sentenced then he wouldn't have made it farther than the Astral Plane, and he would remember little if any of the afterlife. He would also suffer long lasting side effects of death such as night terrors and fatigue. He would especially have a hard time using magic.

Alright, he just had a near-death experience, then. I was torn between making the Don Quixote of this world and an actual paladin, but this cinches it. I AM I, DON QUIXOTE!

I was thinking of joining this roleplay and in developing a character I was wondering about the geography of the universe in which this roleplay is taking place. Is there a specific set of lands from which our character should be from? Or can we make-up names of kingdoms or villages that would lie within this universe that our character would originate from?

Thats a good question, and another thing I need to outline in the information threads im typing up.

1. As far as nations go there are only two that will be relevant to our RP. The Kingdom of Calaris, which the majority of the RP will happen in, and the Vo'lorain Empire that lies across the western sea. Both of these nations have equally diverse geography and topography, the only difference between the two would be the cultural ones. Calaris would especially still be classified as medieval where Vo'lorain would be more renaissance era than medieval. I would say that if you are making a human then you can make up whatever village or city in either nation as you please.

2. If you are making an Elf or Dwarf however, id like to explain a little more about that process. You can off course make a character of either lineage and have him/her hail from some random village order city, but do not create some separate Elven or Dwarven kingdom. The only remaining Elf city if the bastion of Orn'shiale and the only Dwarven kingdom in Calaris and Vo'lorain is Rasnomar. Other than that feel free the customize as much as you want.

Ah, good to know about the dwarfs! I left most everything ambiguous in my character profile because I didn't want to contradict any mythos that might be present in the RP. That being said, if I need to change anything let me know. I'll be more than happy to. Very well thought out RP you have here,

I saw this on the Roleplayers Wanted forum, so if you guys are still accepting I'd be interested to join the RP. If I can, I'll probably be able to get a character submitted within the next two days if I really work on it.
I've got none that's good. So... yeah.

For my character, Apollo, I kind of made him to born in a plain region somewhere around the Kingdom of Calaris (though not inside of it). Is that alright for the name choice or would like me to scratch the whole region thing and just give him a small village to be born in?

Alright guys. From what I've seen all of the characters you've submitted look fine. Ill still look over them a bit, but I see no problems.

As I said in the Roleplayers Wanted thread we will be starting up Tuesday. Try your best to get your characters turned in by Monday, but you'll have until Tuesday night to finish them. Ill post the opening RP that Tuesday morning and ill try to move our story along as fast as possible to keep things interesting. I won't reveal too much but if you have any concerns or questions let me know.

Haha. Alcuin is 'tired.' I mean obviously he is just as distraught as everyone else, but he'll take that comment the wrong way.

Anyway, I'll get a post up probably tomorrow or such. I'm not the swiftest respond-er, but I'll try to keep up. And I'll always try to have something pertinent to say in regards to the plot.

Alcuin is turning out to be a little less genteel than I originally had planned. Then again, maybe that is how he deals with situations like this: smart assing everything.
