Articles of Agreement

[The Adversary]

Yea, whosoever shall join the Company must yet swear a solemn Oath to Obey and Uphold these Articles of Agreement:

I. For the Captain there shall be two whole shares, one and one half shares to the Quartermaster; the Master, Boatswain, Gunner, Doctor, Carpenter and any Merfolk shall have one share and quarter.

II. Whosoever is found to be guilty of cowardice in time of engagement shall suffer what punishment is laid before him by Captain and Company.

III. That man which strikes another of the Company shall be subject to 40 Stripes lacking one on the bare back. Every man's quarrels to be ended at shore by sword and pistol under direction of the Quartermaster.

IV. That man which kills another of the Company shall suffer present Death.

V. If any man is found guilty of stealing any thing from the Company, or game, to the value of one whole crown shall suffer what punishment is laid before him by Captain and Company.

VI. Any man that loses a joint in time of engagement shall be granted the sum of four hundred whole crowns as compensation, eight hundred if it is a limb, and remain on board as long as he shall think fit.

VII. That man who shall not keep his Arms fit for engagement shall be cut off from his share, and suffer such other punishment as the Captain and Company see fit.

VIII. That man which shall snap his Arms, or smoke tobacco, or carry a candle lighted and lacking lanthorn in the hold shall suffer 40 Stripes lacking one on the bare back. The same punishment shall go to any man smoking tobacco on deck after dark.

IX. Every man of the Company has vote in affairs of moment, and equal title to fresh provisions, or strong liquors, at any time seized, and may use them at pleasure, lest scarcity befall, making necessary to vote a retrenchment for the good of all. Even so, whosoever shall neglect the orders of the Captain or officers shall suffer as in the former article, and present Death will be dealt in time of engagement.

X. No person to game at cards or dice for money while aboard.

XI. Whosoever is found to have tampered with the Guns shall suffer present Death.

XII. Any man found to meddle with a woman, lacking her consent, shall suffer present Death.

XIII. No purchase, no pay.
