General Gameplay

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby FaddedFox on Wed Jan 06, 2016 9:20 pm

This thread is dedicated to the general game play. This where the explanation for transportation, NPCS, quests, party formation etc. will be provided

This section will continue to be developed to enhance the role-play. These are some basics we came up with. If there is something we missed or you have a question, please let us know so that we can address it before the group rp formation. This is going to be a combination of games that I am familiar with honestly so we are meshing them together as best we can. Please be aware that most of this came from existing games and I do not own this material. Our creativity however went into combining the existing ideas to form LAIOS.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Towns▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

In general LAIOS's game play follows SAO and .hack with Skyrim and Shaiya added in to fill things out. There are a total of 5 towns with a specific name and design. All towns will have NPCS selling weapons, magic, armor, food, elixirs, scrolls, and houses. All will also have a tavern where players can have room and board and a place to have drinks. Each town will have one thing that will set it apart from the others however. These five towns will vary in level. So the town of beginnings for instance will have weaker items than the 5th town which will have the highest armor and weapons. This also goes for monsters found in each town 'zone'. Each town will specifically be discussed in the Towns OOC thread. All towns are Safe Zones where no one can be killed. Duels can be held in towns but no duel in town will lead to a player death. Monsters that follow a player will be killed by the NPC guards at each town gate, thereby protecting the running player. Each town will have weather that hints at the environment of the field where the monsters will be waiting.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Fields▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

LAIOS is an open world and everything can be interacted with. Fields are what surrounds a town. The climate of each field changes to indicate the type, level, and difficulty of the monsters roaming. The field is not safe by any means. Attack monsters that detect a player will attack until it is dead. A player can also attract a swarm of monsters. Monsters can be found in the water as well. Player Killers that detect another player can also attack and kill a player. Each field has a level system where monsters range from low to high difficulty for a certain level range. For example, the first town field will have monsters ranging from level 1 to level 20. Each monster level will be indicated by the color of their name. White signifies that the monster is below the player level and provide inferior items. Blue is slightly higher bu still easy. Green is the perfect level, yellow is slightly harder but manageable and provide better items. Orange will be tough but manageable and provide items a couple of levels above a player's current level. From there, Red, and purple will be very hard to defeat and provide the best exp, money, and items but must be defeated in a party. They are also most likely to swarm. Black indicates a monster level that is beyond the player and they will not gain any exp and will most likely be killed.

Fields also contain herbs, plant life, and animals that do not attack the player. These plants and things found in the field can be used to create food, elixirs and poisons. After a player picks something, the material will regenerate in an area after a 24 hour delay period.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Dungeons▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

Each field will have a couple of dungeons available to explore and will house stronger monsters the deeper one goes. There is a treasure chest with rarer items a the deepest level. Since a field is vast, most dungeons reside deep in the forest, tundra, and in mountains. However, there are several warp points within a field that will allow a player to teleport into other dungeons and connected fields in another 'dimension'. This features was added by Seraph to increase the amount of dungeons available per field without damaging the field appearance. A player can also warp to a field with these extra dungeons via a town Rune (explained shortly). Dungeons can also be located in the depths of the waters in LAIOS.

Dungeons also have items that can be found to create potions. These items generally must thrive in darkness and warmth and are the hardest to find. They are scarce compared to the abundance of life in the fields.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Bosses▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

Fields don't contain bosses unless the player ventures into the mountains. Mountains are home to crystals used for enchantments and are home to large creatures like dragons. Dragons guard the crystal horde and must be defeated in order to get this material as well as harvest dragon skin, bone, exp, and treasure. Beast Tamers cannot tame bosses, but they can tame a dragon hatchling by killing the dragon and gaining access to its nest. If there is an egg, a beast tamer can collect the egg and raise the dragon. The dragon pet will not reach the size of its parent but will be large enough to ride when it hits level 40. Finding an egg however, is very difficult considering they are a rare item. Better take a Treasure Hunter with you if you are on the hunt for dragon eggs. Only a Beast Tamer can hatch the egg into a dragon.

Each dungeon will have a boss that must be defeated to gain the treasure of the dungeon. Obviously, bosses will be much, much stronger than the rest of the creatures fought up to that point. Bosses give rare items and the highest level of armor and weapons of that zone.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Transportation▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

Most transportation is done through a device called the 'Rune'. It is a symbol etched into the ground of a designated area in town that allows players to go to certain field areas, dungeons, and other towns. The symbol is generally red when it is not active. When a player steps onto it, it immediately brightens to orange and a list comes up with the various destinations available. Once a destination has been selected, the light wraps around the individual and they are whisked away to their chosen area. In the filed, these Runes become glowing orbs that dance in a single spot with a ring of runes around its center. These cannot be used when be attacked.

Best Tamers that have a large enough pet can use the pet as a horse and ride them through the field. They cannot be ridden inside a town. Alternatively, players can purchase a mount that allows them to travel faster through a field but provides no other support. They are generally very expensive and you have a choice between a large tiger, deer, or a wolf. You can choose its color and patterning but nothing else. A tiger can sniff out elements for elixirs and food. A deer can find enchanting equipment. A wolf can find material for armor and weapon crafting.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Party Formation▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

The maximum amount of people someone can hold in a party is 4 people, including the individual forming the party. Exp and items are shared within a party so it doesn't mater who opens a chest or who kills a monster. Treasure Hunters in a party can find rare items and the item obtained is then also given to the rest of the party so they share in the glory of rare items. A party of thieves have increased stealth, but if one member is discovered, all party members are discovered and pay a fine for their crime. A party of guild mates tends to get an exp and cash bonus. A party of player killers will raise notoriety level and draw Bounty Hunters. A party of Bards will have he luxury of increased money obtained and skill increase.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Guilds▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

Guilds will be per-determined once part II starts up. There will be a Thieves Guild, Mercenary Guild, Aid/Resources guild, Front-lines Guild, and a Seeker guild. The last two are more plot specific and the others are just for the fun of the world. Guilds can have many members and most of them will be NPCs since we can't play every single member in all of the guilds.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄NPCS▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

There are a variety of non-player characters in LAIOS. Game Masters will generally use them to assist in plot but all players can take control of an NPC to move their characters and aid in developing the richness of the world. Merchant NPCS are static and will be the same throughout each town with a limited amount of responses. Quest NPCS can be interacted with have a more open speech pattern to facilitate conversation. Bartenders are also open to interaction and can provide quests and act as information brokers. They observe things going on in the bar and may later use that information to aid players. They can be bribed to give information on other players. Once a quest has been completed, the NPCS will still be there, ready to offer their quest to other players. If the NPCS are killed, the quests will be not be completed. Seraph will 'revive' these characters a couple of days later. If the player killed the NPC, the player will never be able to finish the quest. NPCs that don't have quests that are killed will not be revived. New NPCS with new backstories will replace them. Seraph is the only AI in the game and the only one that truly thinks, feels, and changes on his own. He will interact with others like any other player.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Houses▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

In part I, player housing was just a place to keep items and show off trophies and a place to craft potions and enhancements. In Part II, homes in game are the homes that characters live in. It is either sleep at home, at a tavern, or out in the open. Houses come in varying forms. Some are really small, holding only 3 rooms. The more expensive a home, the bigger the home is and a character can furnish their homes to their liking and are fully customizable. Players can hang whatever they like and decorate their homes with collectibles like one would in the real world. Each home comes pre-adorned and contains a bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom. Cheaper homes come with the bare essentials with minimal decoration. Players cannot make a small home bigger. They cannot alter the structure of the house they buy; just the internal furnishings. Homes and furnishings can be purchased in the towns. The 5th town tends to have the more expensive and expansive homes and items.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Thieving▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

One of the things players can do is become a thief. Just like in the real world, this can come with consequences. A thief that is caught pick-pocketing, stealing from stores, or stealing from houses will be fined and all stolen items in their inventory will be confiscated. The thief will then have to part with one item chosen by the one that caught them. The thief's username is then colored orange as a mark against them, reducing their stealth skill and allowing them to be detected easier. If the thief doesn't steal/doesn't get caught for two weeks, their skill returns and the orange color is taken away.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Player-Killing▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

Originally, player-killing wasn't all that harmful. Players that took part in this gained a red username to warn players to be wary in the field around them. They are also given a 'Warrant' with their pictures posted in the towns for those who take up the quest of Bounty-Hunter. Bounty-Hunters then seek out the Player Killers and kill them and receive money for 'ridding' LAIOS of these dangerous individuals. Victims lose the exp they gained and are started at their last save point. The Player-Killer obtains some of the items from the victim's inventory. Same goes for Bounty-Hunters. PKers that are killed by Bounty-Hunters end up losing their prized weapon to the hunter to display in their homes.

In part II, Player-Killers are feared vehemently and Bounty-Hunters are praised. Victims die and the player goes into a coma though PKs don't believe this is the real fate of victims. PKs also obtain everything in a player's inventory. Bounty-Hunters similarly obtain everything in a PKer's inventory and the PKer goes into a coma upon character death. A party of PKers who kill together gain higher notoriety and a higher bounty is placed on each of their heads.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Miscellaneous Activity▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

For those who would like to enjoy the world as an escape, there is fishing, herding, and farming. All of these activities provide food for the player and if they like, they can sell their wares for money. This was originally created as a way to pass time but has gained more relevance for those who do not wish to face creatures and fight. There is no risk to life and limb with these activities. These three activities are connected to the town and are safe zones.

Players can also play games and gamble in taverns. There area variety of card and dice games available as well as guessing games. If there is a specific game a player wants to play and the Dealer (entertainment master in the tavern) doesn't know it, the player simply tells them the name of the game and the NPC will then update its data base to add it in the inventory. Seraph gave these dealers a learning capability.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Weather▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

LAIOS has weather just like the real world. Each town has its own weather cycle and the weather also determines the items available to players. Fields are also dominated by more extreme weather biomes. Skills will be rendered more effective or ineffective by the environment the player finds himself in. For example, stealth may be reduced in the desert since there are fewer shades and things to hide behind but detection increases. Similarly, stormy weather in a winter field will increase stealth, reduce detection and reduce flight for demons. A character must be wary of their skills and where they are going. The weather also determines the type of creature that will appear and their affinities and defenses. Monsters will be described in the Enemies Thread.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Combat▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

The most important part of striving in this game is combat. Combat is required to level up and stay alive and strong. Regardless of who or what a player is fighting, the combat style is open. There is no dice to determine strikes and there is no turn by turn fighting style. Players just attack as they will. Skills and magic are unleashed depending on mp and stamina and speed. This changes when attacking another player. We will be using Rng (dice) to determine attacks and whose hp hits zero, etc.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Chatting▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

All players can talk to each other using their normal voices. In a party, most conversations become private so only party members can hear an individual speak. To speak to others not in a party, a player just selects the option for general chat. To speak privately, a player will select 'Whisper' and only that specific person will hear them. This generally looks like the two are whispering in each others ears. To speak long distance, players will send instant messages that will appear on their screen in a text.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Trading▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

Two people can trade items to their leisure. A Player must first gain another player's attention and then request a trade. Then a list of the other player's inventory comes up and the player that initiated the trade will pick what they would like. The recipient than states what they are willing to trade it for. Upon agreement, the items will automatically be imputed into the respective inventories. Legendary and equipped items cannot be traded.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Duels▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

A duel is a consented fight between two players. It begins with a request and then the two decide what weapons will be used. The duel ends when one player 'faints'. There is no K.O. Each player has a counter with the number of losses and wins they had in a duel. Nothing else is gained in a duel.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄P v. P Zone▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

There is a 6th town that isn't really a town. This is an arena for a player vs. player tournament is held. Like a duel, no one dies in this tournament but player fighting is welcomed. A player can enter by themselves or with a party. The winner(s) are termed 'Emperors' and gain fame, money, exp, and a weapon. The winning party also gets a crown they can wear year round. This tournament is held every year.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Events▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

LAIOS is played in real-time. So, when there is a celebration, Seraph changes the scenes of the game to correspond to the holidays. This change comes with new monsters and limited time quests. These quests could be simply to fight the boss that will appear in a town, a scavenger hunt, and raid. He may even create a special dungeon to be played in for the holiday. Regardless of the type of event, a legendary item will be awarded to the winners. These Legendary weapons are extremely rare and cannot be traded. It can be a weapon, armor, or some other specialty character modification or item. To those who do not win, Seraph will still give a present that will be useful in game and is harder to find. Seraph will also give everyone powerful health and magic potions and a food treat, even to those that didn't participate but are alive during that holiday.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄Elements▄ ▃ ▂ ▁

I forgot to mention this before, but Mages and Demons can choose an element for their character. Having an element allows these two classes to have a 40% element resistance. For example, a fire mage has 40% fire resistance, but has reduced Resistance to water. The elements are as followed: Water, fire, earth, wind, darkness, and light. Furthermore, a demon and mage with an element is given one special attack base on their element. I will not define this ability. You can use your own imagination here. I will judge the power when I read your profile and give you the okay if it is fine or ask you to tone it down if it is too powerful.
