It is not in my nature to keep a journal, but the man I’m working for at the present time, Andrew Malcolm, wants me to keep track of events on the farm. First, a little bit about myself: My name is Matthew Connor Desmond Sanderson, but you can call me Matt. I am forty-eight years old, as of March 15. I am married, and have four kids. Like me, my kids have become interested in horses at an early age, and when they are not in school, they spend a lot of time on the Malcolm Farm. My love of horses came from my parents, who, it seemed, have always owned horses at one time or another. Mom and Dad are in their seventies, and they own a small hobby farm about forty miles from where I currently live. They have six horses.
I usually work independently, but when Mr. Malcolm hired me to be a trail guide for his trail riding business, and he mentioned a salary that I found satisfactory, I couldn’t very well turn him down. I’ve been with him for three years now, and I have taken people for trail rides almost every day now, but mostly on weekends. You get every type of person riding horses, from professionals who know what’s involved in trail riding, to amateurs who shouldn’t even be on a horse. Sometimes I think these amateurs should have a few lessons, but they’re paying the money and they’re taking their chances, so who am I to argue? They pay Mr. Malcolm, and he pays me.
Never mind a signature.
