Space Odessey: Technical terms

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Wake on Fri May 06, 2011 10:34 pm

This is a forum for submitting and referencing ideas for technology, mechanical devises, faction info, and character or group back story for our roleplay, Space Odessey.

A link to which is right here: roleplay/space-odessey/#posting

We will be using this as a place to plan out various subjects in story or explain things we might not be able to get to in the role play.

________

Too start off, since were doing a sci-fy mech roleplay, I suggest we distribute the basic types of mechs into weight classes.

Light class would be between 10ft to 15ft in size and act often as either recon units or work in groups for hit and run tacts.

Medium class would be 15ft-20ft and be more of the multi-purpose front lines unit.

Heavy class would be 20ft-25ft and be the major vanguard of frontal assaults and charges.

There woulb be of course some slight varying with different types and any modified mechs but I think this would be a good starting idea.

Objections? Thoughts? Comments? Give me your own two cents on it and anything you think might work better.

Sounds good. As an additional bit the Mems-cv or Multi environment Multi stage combat vehicle is a small to medium range size and can transform into three "stages". One stage is for flight which works both in air and space. It roughly resembles a stealth fighter. The second stage is mostly for fighting other mechs and looks like a huge robot which has arms and legs and can weild things like swords or clubs. The last stage is for land combat only and looks like a tank.

Might I suggest we use Mach speed as the term for high speed objects like interceptors or other one man craft. Mach speed is the speed of sound, at sea level that's about 1,236 kilometres per hour (768 mph), or about one kilometer in three seconds or approximately one mile in five seconds.

Planet side I don't think vehicles could hit this speed since wind pressure would ripe the hull apart but in space, with no wind pressure, they might be able to hit two or three Machs without any trouble. Keep in mind that making tight turns at that speed would be a nightmare.

If Mach speed is the speed of sound don't plains do that all the time in the atmosphere. I mean that is where the sonic boom comes from. Also in space you would need to go at least light speed or more to get where you want to go and back before 100 years pass. So we would have Light speed, and Hyper drive, and trans warp

Light speed is like it sounds, just using a new propulsion that can reach light speed while a force field negates inertia so the ship and pilot don't implode.

Hyper drive is sort of using a sort of tunnel in space. I am not sure of the mechanics of it just that it works.

Trans warp on the other hand is a method of folding space to create almost instantaneous travel, or something like that is what I was thinking. I am so bad at technical stuff.
