Before the Apocalypse. Apocalypse only occurs if the team fails to retrieve the mineral. Salvation occurs if you do retrieve the mineral! :D

I have a strength based melee combat male or a speed based melee/short range female I can play.

I think the male would work better in a team thing. The female's a bit of a lone wolf.
