There is a world of difference between the hunter and the slayer, which must be understood if there is to be any rationality. Slayers are those who actively go out of their way, either freely or hired by some authority to a certain degree, to track down and murder anyone who is allegedly suspected to be undead. True slayers are driven by religious fervor to kill witches, werewolves, revenants and vampires, to expel demons and ghosts through faith and practice. Slayers are those who will disturb graves and vandalize cemetaries, infiltrating a suspected coven or haven in order to assassinate the accused. Slayers have existed since the dawn of written history and they continue to exist even today, despite the illegal nature of their modern occultic activities. Slaying is banned in most regions of the world today, since it involves acts of grave robbing and often times acts of homicide, thus there are not many real authentic slayers today who would openly admit to being a slayer. Most modern self-proclaimed slayers are only pretending or roleplaying without any serious crimes or proof of their claims. However, some slayers are not faking. They do exist in modern day, which should be mentioned as a warning to anyone who delves in the occult. Beware of such individuals, especially on the internet. Hunters on the other hand are not true slayers, despite the popular connection between them. Hunters are those who actively go out of their way, either freely or hired by some authority to a degree, to track down and investigate possible claims of legitimacy to the presence of vampires, witches, werewolves, zombies, poltergeists and other spectres for the sole purpose of studying evidence from a less religious, more scientific perspective which may involve case studies and active field work in different areas. Although true hunters are known to go legend tripping just as they have done since classical antiquity, they are usually more professional and logical than slayers in their approach to these matters. Hunters may visit a cemetery or haven associated with the alleged undead with the intention of studying them or researching their existence in order to prove or disprove the suspected phenomena for the purpose of education or knowledge. True hunters will never intentionally disturb a corpse or grave, nor go looking to harm anyone involved in the occult since most authentic hunters are occultists themselves. True hunters are more interested in writing grimoires and taking notes or doing extensive research by taking photographs or checking references. Hunters can be occultists in their own right, often going to great lengths to seek interviews with the undead and gather physical observable evidence of their claims, especially via archeological or anthropological and philosophical means. Hunters are in fact journalists who go hunting for information, not criminals or murderers like their slayer cousins. Though they may work as a team. Hunters are the spies, while slayers are the assassins. That is at least one perspective.
