"My lord, Jonah!" Aria called as she spurred her stallion as fast as the dark beast could run. Once again, her young charge had gone off on his own. Somehow, the noble kept slipping through watch. He knew when the guards were switching their post and every time she turned around, he wasn't where he was supposed to be. This looked bad. This was bad. Here she was, the first woman to be granted a position in the High Guard, and her one responsibility was to watch over Jonah's safety. She was going to be disgraced and stripped of her rank. Her mistakes would only send the message that woman couldn't handle tasks like this. It wouldn't just set her back, it would set back any woman who dared say they could wield a blade.

Well, the lord may manage to slip out out of the castle without notice, but at least she was always just behind. She still managed to be the annoying terrier ever at Jonah's heel. She was starting to learn her lord's secrets and each time he slipped free, she was closer and closer to him. Soon, he wouldn't be able to give her the slip. She just had to keep up her vigil. And blast it if the lord didn't have the fastest horse in the stables! Her horse wasn't as close as she wished. Her short blond hair whipped about her face as she raced forward, calling after her lordling but her words seemed to be swallowed in the wind. Aria glanced behind her to see the castle was fading from view. This is the farthest Jonah had ever gone. Usually he turned back by now but he was heading deeper into the borderlands. This was dangerous roads. The La'Coi had been sighted around these parts more and more frequently as of late. They were a ruthless people that attacked first and asked questions later.

Her cerulean gaze flitted to the trees that they started to weave among and she caught sight of movement. Was that a lizard? She looked back at Jonah to see a vine suddenly grow taught against his horse's legs. Jonah's horse gave a screech as it stumbled, throwing its rider off as it tumbled and rolled on the ground. Aria's heart fluttered into her throat and chocked her as she watched the young lord roll. "Jonah!" she cried.

From the trees several of the La'Coi appeared, one stabbing the fallen horse and wrenching its spear quickly; the horse went still. Aria gave a battle cry as she withdrew her sword and leaped over the vine that had tripped Jonah's horse. She swung her blade around her, trying to cut one of the La'Coi but they wove away from the flashing steel with quite the show of agility and flexibility. "Stay back you animals," she growled, her horse stamping, huffing. Its sides were heaving as its eyes darted between the hostile forest dwellers and the scent of blood.

The La’Coi. Jonah didn’t expect running into them. He went too far, just like everyone feared he would. Yet here he was on the ground after trying to elude Aria only to be tripped up by the Vine and his horse killed by one of the human-like lizards. Image

Their frills were spreading as they held their spears up and ready at Aria, and several more began appearing, making him all the more frightened, and angry with himself that his friend and guard was in trouble, True trouble because of him. It was then he heard a low hiss, and a thump of a tail. It felt like a horrid cold sound to him. Inch by inch out of the surrounding forest, rose out a La’Coi, with scales black as midnight, his spear twirling in his fingers.

Image

Black Hair spilled down to his shoulders, but his amber eyes showed its reptilian slit as his frills weren’t opening, as if he was calm and collected. He noticed the horns black as obsidian as he gave what seemed to be a look of arrogance towards Aria. Even more shocking was the fact this La’Coi not only had a spear, he had a sword strapped to him!

”He must’ve killed a human for it, or had it from some treasure hoard!” Jonah thought. That was when the La’Coi began to chuckle.

“A woman defending a Noble? Amusing. Humans are so fascinating.” The La’Coi hissed, “But tell me Girl, you are helplessly outnumbered. Get off the horse, slowly. If you try to fight, I won’t guarantee his safety.” He pointed his spear at Jonah, who, despite himself, squeaked in fear.

“Piranus? When did he show up?” One of The ambushers whispered as the aforementioned person seemed to twitch at that. Undeterred from the scathing comment, he looked at the woman dead in the eye.

“So Which will it be?” He asked, with Jonah looking at her worriedly.

Aria growled at the animals that had encircled them. They were all various colors with neck fans extended outwards and rattling in a sign Aria had learned to be aggression and warning. When she'd been younger, this lizard like race had fascinated her. And some of that awe was there beneath the surface, but now they represented danger and anger. They were not full of magic and wonder like she once wanted to believe. And now here she was outnumbered like the black one said. She did not like the odds. She also didn't like the idea of dismounting from her horse, but what choice did she have? She couldn't let them hurt Jonah and if she complied, Jonah lived longer; lived until she could find a way out of this mess.

She growled at the lizard before she slowly dismounted from her horse. Her eyes never left the black one. Was he the leader of this party? He certainly carried himself like a leader. She would have to watch him carefully. She lowered the tip of her blade till it was pointed to the ground, but she didn't relinquish her hold. She slowly moved to get in front of Jonah. If they wanted to get to him, they would have to get through her first. "We are just passing through. We didn't meant to encroach on your territory. Let us return to the road," she implored.

A snort and a laugh answered her entreaty. From the gathered La'Coi, a cyan blue lizard moved forward. He was sleek and lean and his movements were more of a prowl. The horns on his head branched out making it look like he was a stag. He too carried a spear on his back and two swords at his hips in the shape of half moons. He circled the two, his tail flicking behind him. It was obvious he was the one with the authority here; the other warriors had moved aside at his approach. The blue lizard stood beside the black then.

"Do you think us stupid? We know who you are. We let you go back to the road, you'll have the war-band upon us," Ezeki answered the woman.

"If you know who we are, then you know a war-band will come if you don't return us and they'll raze your forest."

"Not if we keep you alive." The blue La'Coi grinned. He knew enough about the humans to realize that important people, well, the humans didn't just send armies into territory when they knew their nobility was in harms way. They bargained for that life. One wrong move and they could lose a precious heir. "Now drop your sword. You, we do not need to keep."

Aria hesitated. She didn't know what to do! She didn't want to die foolishly. What if she stayed her blade and lived long enough to get her lord out of here? Her gaze flitted to all the gathered La'Coi. Regardless, this wouldn't end well for her and Jonah. She dropped her sword then but continued to glare at the two in front of her. "That's a good girl. She has more spirit and sense," Ezeki mused. "Tie them up" he ordered and two La'Coi hurried forward to do just that.

Jonah watched as Aria dismounted and tried to talk out of being taken prisoner. He heard from an uncle that if they held nobles hostage it helps the La’Coi buy time to protect their village. Piranus felt satisfied with her statement.

He was about to talk further when he heard laughter and the familiar Cyan scales of the Hunter. Curse that Ezeki, he could have had more fun with them. Made them think he was the important figure. Jonah almost dropped his mouth at the beauty of the cyan scaled La’Coi. He quickly took over negotiations and skillfully convinced Aria to drop her sword. If she got left behind, she’d be in trouble, he had to convince them to not leave her behind.

“I’ve never seen a woman amongst their guard before, Ezeki. There must be something of Value about her. Let’s take her with.” Piranus suggested, watching her carefully. Now Piranus knew that’s what he, and most likely the other Guardians, plus maybe the Sah, their chieftain, would want to hear. But he saw something in the golden haired human’s eyes. Something familiar. He wanted to know what.

Jonah was bound, but he did not struggle. ”Please Don’t do anything rash Aria, I know you’ll be safe or can figure out a way.” he thought. He didn’t want Aria to have an excuse to struggle too. All the while he heard the other La’Coi mutter about the black scaled La’Coi.

“Who invited the daydreamer?” Or “Did Ezeki not want any other Hunter or real Guardian?” Was overhead by Jonah as he was pulled up by a La’Coi to stand upright after being appropriately tied.

“Well here they are, all ready to go Ezeki.” Piranus Said, swaying his tail, making a large semi circle of dirt where he swept it. “I want to learn exactly who we got. You think this means the Guardians will actually let me be one, officially?” The La’Coi’s Eyes seemed to flicker in excitement at the question, despite his emotions turning unreadable for the moment, as if he knew the most probable answer.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby FaddedFox on Mon Jan 08, 2018 2:18 pm

Ezeki debated his options with the female guard. Piranus was right. He'd never seen a woman warrior among the humans before. He wondered what was so special at her to allow women in heir ranks. From what he understood of humans, they did not think their women strong. They were helpless creatures. Of course he'd seen female women before but they had all wore dresses that did nothing for the flighty creatures when it was time for them to run. They fell easily and screamed. Always with the screaming. It was quite annoying. But this one, she had a defiant look about her. She was strong. He lifted his nose and sniffed the air but it didn't tell him any more than what his eyes saw. The two weren't intimate.

"We'll take her with," Ezeki confirmed and looked over his friend. "And maybe they will make you guardian," he answered. It would be about time. Piranus was a good man, a good hunter though he'd never really been part of the hunting party. He was not conventional, but sometimes that was a good thing. He knew Piranus always gave him another perspective to look at. He wondered by their Sah never made him guardian.

Ezeki turned his gaze to the noble. He moved closer to scent the man but his scent wasn't familiar. Whoever he was, it was not someone who often led war-bands into this area. He was a pretty face. Truly was a strange culture that led weak pretty things lead men. Ezeki lifted Jonah's head with the tip of his tail beneath his chin. "I wonder what you'd look like with fire in your eyes," he mused. He did enjoy a good fight. Maybe there was a hidden strength in him. "Come," he announced then to his hunters and began to lead the way through the trees.

After little time, they reached a clearing walled in by a mountain. The air was colder here. The mountain had several holes in them where the La'Coi had created a network of dens. This was their dwelling and where they hid their treasure troves. Large boulders surrounded a leak in the mountain that poured fresh water. Some of the La'Coi lay on the rocks, back arched and heads up towards the sky, sun bathing. Like regular lizards, they grew cold easily and required the sun or other body heat to keep warm. Some of the older La'Coi were huddled together in coats they'd taken from human invaders. That was one good thing about the humans; they provided clothes that the La'Coi didn't have as well as tools and they were learning how to create their own.

Aria hated to admit she was fascinated. She'd never been anywhere near the La'Coi dens. She hadn't even known what to picture. She had assumed they lived in houses like they did. To see them living inside the mountain was strange, but fitting. They really were more beasts than human. She even paled when off to the side in little seclusion, two La'Coi were in the middle of passionate throws. Though it was ghastly to think of two people doing something so intimate in public she found herself staring as the two growled at each other, claws raking over each other and tails wrapping around each other. She tore her gaze away and cleared her throat. Did these people have no decency?

The party stopped in front of the cave and the two humans were forced to their knees. "Stay here," Ezeki ordered as he entered their main cave, seeking their Sah too announce that their trap had bee successful.

Piranus moved to follow Ezeki, but rolled his eyes at the two La’Coi and shouted, “Get a Cave or Wait until the month of Sacred Union! Adolescents.. jeez.”

“Jealous that you do not have one of your own Piran?” Asked a Male Green scaled La’Coi that happened to walk up in front of him and the prisoners.

Jonah felt intimidated by this one, much like Ezeki, this one carried himself like a tribal authority of respect. Piranus glared at the newcomer and sighed. “Oh, Hello Zean.”

“You know the regulations.” The La’Coi told his colleague. “But of course Ezeki took you so you have to report.”

“Your point?” Piranus Asked, getting annoyed by the interruption.

“You know as well as I do Sah Rowan might not give you the Title Of Guardian. You’re too unorthodox.” Zean stated. Piranus slowly began to growl.

——

Image

Sah Rowan stretched her wings on her stone carven throne as she watched Ezeki arrive inside. She sniffed the air for his companion he picked then sighed. No doubt one of the Guardians stopped him. She caught the scent of his captives and smiled in relative relief. At least the gambit worked. They could use this to forestall the latest rumors that had caught her ear.

“Ezeki. You were successful. I can smell your captives from here.” Rowan said with a smile. “You and Piran did well today. I would very much like to meet them when they’ve...calmed down and not look at us like animals.” Then she heard the sounds of growling and sighs. “Zean is goading Piranus. Looks like the Tribe is gonna have a show this afternoon.”

Outside Piranus and Zean began sizing each other up and glowered at them, several La’Coi began to gather around them. “It’s Zean versus Piranus again!” Several of them shouted as they began to watch the two La’Coi stretch out spikes to make themselves look bigger.

“What are you waiting for Dreamer?” Asked Zean.

“I’m waiting for you to stop Talking and start fighting!” Piranus answered with a feral grin and an arrogant glint in his eyes.

Meanwhile Jonah leaned towards Aria. “Are they going to fight each other?” He asked her. He hoped they could use it as a chance to try and escape. The sooner the better in his opinion.

Ezeki gave a nod to the Sah, making a show of bowing and extending his hand up to her in fealty. She was the only one he bowed for. Everyone else that tried to get one from him would get a spiked tail to the face. "Yes, we were successful. There were only two that ventured in thankfully, and my scouts confirm that there was no one waiting for them outside of the forest." In his book, they'd been lucky that two had been foolish enough to come here alone. If there had been a horde of humans, he would have had everyone hide themselves till they passed. They had strength in numbers after all.

At the Sah's words of Piranus and Zean, Ezeki turned and watched the two expand their fans and spikes. Those two were always at it. His own fans rattled against his neck at the excitement. He was a male too after all and any display of aggression got him excited to join the fray. He was disciplined however. He wouldn't give in to the urge to join the fight. It had nothing to do with him after all. He turned his gaze to the two humans that were standing beside, watching the beginnings of the fight gear up.

Ezeki moved forward and settled a hand on both prisoners. "Come on." he sighed as he shoved the two forward, cutting off any reply Aria ma have spoken. Ezeki forced the two deep into the caves and settled Aria in one small den and blocked the door with a boulder and pushed the noble into a second one. "You will remain here until our Sah decides to speak with you. Thirsty, hungry?" he asked Jonah.

Jonah was pushed inside the cave system just as Zean and Piranus charged forward at each other. He wanted to stay and watch but he knew he was still a prisoner. He watched as Aria was placed and sealed in her own den, praying that she wasn’t claustrophobic, before being pushed into one himself. He listened to the one called Ezeki talk about remaining here until his presence was requested.

At the question of hunger, his stomach growled loudly and caused him to look down and sheepishly nod. “Y-yes, I haven’t had anything yet this afternoon.” He said quietly. He might as well keep them placated by doing as they said. If he made demands too early, they’d think him spoiled. And he wasn’t spoiled.

“I want to know one thing, why now? You’ve been quiet for most of my lifetime, what has the King done to warrant this kidnapping?” He kept out the fact that he was Kin to the King, his second born Nephew to be exact.

In the meanwhile, Piranus’ fight with Zean was over before it even began, with Zean being the superior by public support and strength. Such was the might of a guardian. The black scaled La’Coi now walked in frustration, the skin of his arms bruised, his right eyebrow having a small cut on it. He stopped immediately when he noticed Sah Rowan looking at him. “Beloved Sah.” He said with a bow.

“Why did you let him goad you Piran? He’d use that as an excuse to make me not make you Guardian.” She said calmly.

“Sah Rowan, I meant no disrespect-“

“You need to reign that temper in. Also at least win a few more fights within the next two months. This year on the Month Of Sacred Union, I want you to find your Mate.” She added. Rowan hated to make such snappy instructions to some of her subjects, But Piranus was more then just a subject, just as once She was more then just Sah to him.

Rowan took him in like a brother when his parents were hunted by ambitious humans, saw the worth in his desires to protect. Piranus now, merely bowed in humble submission to her instruction.

“Y-yes Sah Rowan.” He stated, He then proceeded to walk back out of the den to the watering area to sunbathe and tend to his injuries. Rowan went back to her throne and sat down. When Ezeki got back, she wanted to ask him for the presence of one of the prisoners. Whoever was the more vocal would do.

Re: Hunted {Closed}

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby FaddedFox on Mon Mar 26, 2018 4:03 am

Aria stumbled when Ezeiki had tossed her into her private little den and she quickly got to her feet. Her eyes darted around the enclosure looking for easy weaknesses. The walls were completely smoothed so there was no way she'd ever be able to climb up the walls to the small shaft of light she saw in the ceiling. She didn't have claws or anything to anchor herself. How had the LaCoi prisoners not made it up the walls? she touched it then to see how tough the dirt was to find that she couldn't even make a dent using her sharp shoulder armor. Claws would be useless against it. How had they achieved that? That was for later pondering however, when they were far away from this place.

To the right of her, she heard the second cell where her lord had been throne. Ezeki was conversing with him. She quickly placed her ear against the wall to try and listen in but though she could hear them, the sound was muffled. She sighed her frustration and with one last look around, decided the only thing she could do at this point was sit and wait. Eventually they'd have an opportunity to get out of this place. She would just have to be patient. And besides, she was sure a search party would be sent. They'd eventually find the trail if all else failed, and liberate them. She really hoped Jonah didn't get hurt. Who knew what these savages could do?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ezeki nodded to the human male at the mention of hunger. He was about to turn and leave when he heard the man's question. What had his father done to them? He had to be joking! How could he not see what his own kind was doing to the LaCoi? Where these people stupid? What did they teach their children? His fans extended lightly at the barb before he quelled the display. There was no reason to get worked up over a human. "Your people hunt us. Is that not enough cause? Your kind take our antlers, our scales, our forests. You, who have an entire free land to explore, attack us in our own territory. We've done nothing to offend, but that hasn't stopped the killing," he answered. "As for what we are doing now, it is not my place nor desire to say. You will wait."
With that matter closed, Ezeki left the room. He passed the main area where he noted the Sah was speaking with Piranus and gave them a wide birth for the moment. He grabbed a bit of roasted boar for the two human captives and a little jug of water for each. He went to the female first and opened a slot used specifically for food transfer. Had he not opened it, Aria would have never realized that it even existed, the interior matched so well. They wee excellent craftsmen. Ezeki then did the same for Jonah before he returned to the main area. The sah had finished with Piranus it seamed so he moved forward to kneel before her once more.
"My Sah, the prisoners are in their confined quarters and have their ration of food and water for the day. Anything else you require of me?"
“Well done. Tell me, which of them has been more vocal or resistant? The request I have is odd but I have a desire to speak with one of them eventually. What are they like?” Sah Rowan asked, stretching her wings, hoping to at least gain an understanding of one or both of her guests.
“The only thing I require of you for the rest of the day however is keeping an eye on our guests for the next few days. Also, think up ideal mate candidates for Piranus, if there are any. I want him to at least think there’s some interest in him so he can at least win some fights and actually get one in two months.” She further instructed. “That is all for now.”
———
Jonah could only sit in his cell, silently lamenting that he was now in La’Coi Lands, and that he dragged his guard and friend into the mix as well. What the La’Coi monitoring him said disturbed him greatly, making him feel like he did give them offense. He then discovered the opening as then food and drink were delivered.
To say he began to eat with gusto out of the need of hunger was an understatement. At the back of his mind he hoped Aria had the same treatment.
———
Piranus sat on a red rock and cleaned the cut on his eyebrows and began to soak his bruised arms in the relaxing waters. “‘Win more fights.’ she says. ‘Get a Mate’ she says.” He grumbles. “Easier Said then done.” He winces as the water touched the bruises.
”Although She does look after me, ensured I had a cave when I lost my family. The least I can do is honor her wishes.” Satisfied with those thoughts he began to clean his scales. He wanted to see an onyx shine to them to at least try and look attractive. That in the least would give the black scaled La’Coi more confidence and ability. He just hoped the humans he helped captured got comfortable, they won’t be leaving for a long while.
Re: Hunted {Closed}
Tips: 0.00 INK Postby FaddedFox on Tue Mar 27, 2018 10:18 pm
Ezeki looked up at his Sah and debated just a moment before he said, "The male, Jonah is the talkative one. He seems eager to talk and to question. The female less so. She is quiet. I see her gaze analyze. She is definitely a warrior or some sort of guard. Unlike us, I have rarely seen a human woman fight. Almost all of the soldiers I've ever seen were male. Even when looking at the dead, I've seen only one woman before her. Based on this, I have two notable assumptions. One, either their women are weak and the few that become warriors are exceptional, and not to be taken lightly, or, their women warriors are smarter and more skilled then the men and therefore do not fall in battle. I would bet my scales it is the first that is true," he informed her. He was eager himself to see what kind of fight their female captive could put forth. They could certainly learn from her.
Jonah however also kept his attention but he wasn't sure why. They'd taken male warriors as prisoners but they were usually the same. They either insulted or begged. Neither were very flattering of the human species; especially from those that would count themselves protectors. They spouted about honor and codes and blah blah blah but they didn't know the meaning of it. Well, some did he supposed. But Jonah was different. There was something about the way he spoke. It wasn't.. judging? Maybe that wasn't quite the word he was searching for. He took in information but wasn't quick to say what he was actually thinking though he acted like it was all written on his sleeve. There was a spirit in his eyes but it was masked. What would this human 'lord' really be like if that flickering flame was fanned?
His Sah's demands of him pulled him from his ponderings and he almost groaned. He was supposed to find mates for Piranus? Since when was he a match maker? He didn't even look for a mate for himself! Wouldn't a woman be far more apt to figure out what other woman would find Piranus attractive? Regardless, he'd been given an order and he'd do what he could.
"I'll do what I can," he answered her before he recognized his dismissal. He stationed guards at the cells of their prison before he went searching for his brother of sorts.
Like the Sah, he was close to Piranus. They grew up together and while the others had always picked on Piranus, Ezeki had seen potential. Ezeki had always had a good sense about people and it is what made him valuable as the Head Hunter and on occasion, the Sah's right hand man when it came time to judge others. He could see things most would over look. Ezeki knew that with enough drive, Piranus would excel at whatever it is he wanted. He just needed the right prodding. And over the years, they'd grown quite close. Piranus was older than Ezeki by just a couple of years but Ezeki often took on the role of 'older brother'. Ezeki would do anything to protect Piranus and he too wanted him to finally reach his goals. The internal torment he could see in Piranus's eyes hurt. And it infuriated him that some La'Coi had become guardians that shouldn't have gotten there. True they were skilled, but strength was all they relied on.
Ezeki found Piranus washing his scales then, grumbling to himself. Probably about the fight from earlier. He moved forward and used the hair at the end of his tail to smack Piranus playfully in the head. He sat down a small distance away from the black La'Coi and started to gather up some water to preen his own scales. "You could have had Zean warbling," he lightly tsked. "We should train more. We haven't done it quite as much as we used to. "And you won't believe it but I was tasked with finding you a pretty tail. I don't think I've ever even heard you say what you'd like. But regardless, that part won't be too hard once you pin a few lizards," he mused. "In all seriousness though, what's going on? You are a skilled fighter, Piranus. You are getting into your head or your letting them get into your head. You're better than that."
Smack!
Piranus put both hands on his head the moment he got hit by the end of the tail of Ezeki. “Ey! Watch with the tail! You could’ve poked my eye with a stray hair.” He complained, with a lighthearted tease to his brother figure. He then returned to cleaning his scales as he listened to Ezeki as he spoke.
“Zean got a few lucky shots in. Doesn’t make the loss of a match any better.” He grumbled. His eyes shot up at the orders Ezeki was given. “Oh no, not you too.. Sah Rowan egging me on to find a Mate is hard enough. I feel like my women troubles are going to just pile onto me.” He sighed as he eyed his bruised arms, and for some odd reason, thought about the golden haired human they captured, her eyes holding a familiar determined gaze that made him shiver mentally. It reminded him of his own struggles. It made him almost...pity her.
Then he heard the question of what was eating him, which shook any previous thoughts away. “I know... I guess it’s because of the fact I have no real kin or brethren to call family outside of you, and obviously the Sah. I want to excel and finally be accepted by any of the other Guardians as one of their own. But then it’s the whole ‘Piranus The Dreamer’ lecture about why I’m not yet there, and even want to set the bar higher. I feel ready to take on any invading humans or rival tribes even. So what I really want is to make them shut up and let me prove myself!” His frills slowly expanded as he stated this, and amber eyes almost blazing in his determined fury.
He paused in his semi rant to wash his face. He then looked at the blue La’Coi. “I just... maybe me finding a Mate will finally make them see I’ve got more then just dreams and the Sah to protect, which is probably why Rowan is pushing for it. I don’t know, I mean as far as I know, none of the Females have expressed interest in me yet, that’s including those of my own scale color. Maybe some training and making my Onyx scales shine like an obsidian mirror will make them change their minds eh?” He said with a smirk. “At any rate, glean anything off the humans that I should know about? Big War speeches, Heroic Bravado, Penitent Begging? I love it when it’s all three at once. Want me to Help interrogate one of them at some point?”
Ezeki watched his brother as he listened to him. He was trying so hard to prove himself. Maybe that is what was holding him back. If he could just let go of all the expectations, the bars,the restrictions, everything, and just be himself, he'd find he was already where he needed to be. He didn't really know how to help the man. He wished he had the answer. He closed his eyes then and let his tail glide on the surface of the water beside them.
"Piranus... don't worry about their respect or what they say about you being a dreamer. Not everyone will always respect you. You are always going to have enemies. I am Head Hunter and I still hear the grumblings of some of the soldiers who think I shouldn't be where I am. You can't, and shouldn't, try and please everyone. Just keep doing what his natural and bide your time. Zean will mess up and when he does, you'll have him by the throat. And don't worry about a mate. Everyone has one and you're an excellent choice," Ezeki answered him then. When the conversation turned back to the prisoners, the hunter opened his eyes and looked up through the leaves handing overhead.
"None of that. The woman didn't bow or beg or anything. She didn't even say 'piss off you scaled beast'," he said. "I was expecting something to the effect. You can see in her eyes she's calculating her odds. She'll be tough to crack, I think. The lordling is a curious sort. Was asking me about why we were doing this. He didn't understand but of course humans don't usually. But they are both different. I've never interacted with humans like them. I mean... I don't know. I think they have the same basic 'oh you're a beast' mentality but they don't really show it. They are more disciplined and I feel like there is something beneath the surface." He shook his head. "I could just be making things up but that's the impression I get. Sah said she wanted to talk to one later. Perhaps she'll have us both there when does it."
Piranus nodded at the advice Ezeki gave, and knew he just had to swallow his ‘Dragon’-like pride as he would call it. His time would come and he would prove it to the world.
But the humans came rushing back to his mind as he stroked his chin. “I would definitely want to go and see what that human female is doing being a soldier. Would be an interesting little fight if she decided to try anything funny.”
———
The rest of the day passed, and when morning Came again for Jonah, the door to his cell opened and he saw the two La’Coi that captured him, flanking a red scaled female with wings. What was this woman and what was she doing here.
“Hello there Noble. I am Rowan. I am the head of this tribe, It’s Sah. They tell me you’re talkative. What do you talk about?” She asked.
“I’m Jonah, and I’m just..asking questions and trying hard not to die or get... cannibalized?” He said, much to the amusement of the Black Scaled La’Coi.
“Oh that’s funny, It’s a step up from being called a Beas-Ack!” He covered his head when Rowan smacked his head with her tail as she shot a sideways glare, before smirking at the statement and slowly began to chuckle.
“Yes, your frightened, but cooperate and your stay won’t be unpleasant. Your meal is coming shortly. Ezeki, Tell the guard to serve him, then rejoin us to meet the human female.” She instructed and turned, starting to leave.
“You won’t hurt us?” Jonah asked as she stopped and turned with a neutral look.
“Not unless you give us reason to. So hope your guard does not try anything.” With that passive threat given, she had Piranus guide her out. “Quite the intriguing human, Something seemed... odd. Like he has never been outside those stone buildings of theirs.”
“Nobles are always sheltered Rowan.” He replied, “But something tells me the fun has yet to start the moment we open the door to the Female Fighter. I look forward to a challenge.” That statement was received by a hit to the gut from her tail.
“Piranus, don’t hurt her too much. We don’t want a skirmish against the humans.” Rowan stated. “Now let’s visit this fighter.”
