You are welcome, however, to follow along and read the story that unfolds. :)

For Thousands of years, vampires reigned in the shadows. They had covens spread out across the land; each one with their own bloodlines and rules, hierarchy and etiquette. Each coven head, however, held allegiance to a central power, The Foundation. The Foundation itself was a large coven headed by the Revarn family line. It was rumored the Revarn were the origin of vampires; a fabled Adam and Eve as it were. Their word was law. The purity of their blood made them exceptional hunters and rulers. They took pride in maintaining their authority over the other vampires, but like all things, even their power didn't last forever. As humans continued to grow in the daylight, vampires were stuck in the past. Their prey slowly moved up in the food chain and the heirs of the original Revarn line realized they too must change.

Hassen Revarn, decided that some humans needed to know of their existence. As a race that lived solely on blood, it was best to find a way to expand their pallet and gain allies among their sheep. His plan was to create a stock for vampire, using select humans for their purposes, and to try and create hybrids that were no longer dependent on blood. It did not go according to plan. Some of the humans Hassen brought under his wing realized what his end goal was and decided it was in their best interest to eradicate the vampires before they grew into a larger force. Thus, the first Vampire Hunters, The Harbingers were born.

Using Hassen's ideas, the humans began to drink the blood of vampires; but only the purest blood would do, and never too much at once least they kill themselves. Slowly, this steady diet of stolen vampire blood gave the humans enhanced speed and sight. It gave them just enough of an edge that they could go toe to toe with vampires themselves. They watched and learned from the inside what weakened vampires and when they knew enough, they rose up against them. The Harbingers had the element of surprise and they easily tore apart the vampires and broke up their networks. Since this was a pet project of Hassen's, the other covens were not aware of the humans' knowledge and most humans themselves knew nothing of it. The Harbingers forced The Foundation into hiding as they went on hunting vampires far and wide, only letting certain humans into their fold as they grew.

Though the Harbingers never eradicated the vampire race, it weakened them and put them on the run, forcing them to abandon previous covens or disperse in different directions least they become a target. The unity of the covens vanished and it was each coven out for themselves or sequester away within human territories to vanish from sight. Eventually the Harbingers couldn't garner any more followers as vampires went silent. The hunters died out, keeping their secrets locked away. Hassen was killed by his fellows for what was seen as a betrayal of their people. Hassen's oldest son himself was murdered by the first hunter uprising and the rest of his family was brought down from their perch. Akaret and her remaining youngest son find themselves at the bottom of the barrel and butt of every joke.

Now, in the modern world, the vampire covens struggle to regain what was lost and the heir of the Revarn bloodline struggles to find a place between the human world, the vampire court, and his mother's expectations for him. What will come of his struggle when he meets a human woman that may just change the course of his life? Will she be his ticket to a regaining himself, or spell out the ruin of his family once and for all?

Lucas groaned his discomfort in his sleep as the sun began to filter into the room. The young vampire pressed his face against the warmth beside him trying to keep the blasted light away from his eyes. The sun always made it feel like a strobe light was going off and he'd never get used to the nauseating and migraine inducing flash. But, unlike a strobe light, the sun's rays didn't just stop or vanish with the flip of a switch. No, it grew, it intensified. It burned.

Why the fuck was he burning? He always made sure to close the shades. Lucas forced his eyes to open then and blinked a bit bleary as his sensitive eyes grew accustomed to the blinding sun. The scene around him was disorienting. He wasn't home, none of the surroundings were familiar and he had no idea who was laying in the bed beside him. He tore his gaze away from the sleeping female form and looked down at his bare chest where the sun was hitting him. It's steady exposure changed the warmth to a searing burn and he winced. He pulled out of the bed and into the shade and rubbed the line that was turning pink across his side.

Lucas walked to the window and quickly closed the blinds then and cast the room into a cooling darkness. "That's better," he mused before he turned back to his surroundings that he could see without the impeding light. The cheap bedsheets, tacky decorations of the room, and small chair in corner quickly oriented him to the Silver Sun hotel across from the bar he liked to frequent. He felt the touch of a migraine coming on and pinched the bridge of his nose. His now pale blue eyes narrowed on the human sleeping on the bed. He didn't remember meeting her before. So she was someone he'd met last night. The fuzziness of his memories indicated he'd actually managed to get himself drunk. Their state of disarray was enough information for him to piece together his fragmented memories.

The vampire walked back to the bed to look over the woman's face, gentle fingers caressing her cheek lightly as to not wake her. She was a pretty thing. And they'd had quite some fun the night before. They'd had sex three times. He grinned at the thought. He didn't usually bed humans more than once. They didn't have the stamina nor the ability to entice him. She was different. Part of him wondered if she'd consent to another round now that they were both sober, but he had a lot of things he needed to do today. If he bedded her again, he may go lazy and wish to do nothing but ignore his responsibilities. He already didn't wish to return home.

Lucas turned away and began to collect his clothing and started to pull them on, intent on leaving the woman to her sleep. He'd pay for the room of course. He was the kind to fuck and dash, leaving his partner with a bill. "Where are my sun glasses?" he grumbled to himself after he'd gotten his pants on.

ImageJennifer became vaguely aware of a gentle presence moving besides her, a soft fluttering stroking across the skin on her cheek before it vanished almost as quickly as it appeared. Somewhere in the depths of her consciousness, her thoughts battled against the abnormality of this feeling and the desire to cling onto the remnants of sleep that were slowly escaping her grasp. The bed was warm and soft beneath her and the covers draped across her form felt like feathers as she instinctively nestled down into them further, not yet ready to address the events of the night before. It was with this thought however, that she felt a small skip in her chest which jolted her further towards full consciousness.

Slowly Jen squinted her eyes open and tried to blink away the blurriness of her vision, causing a small creased frown to furrow onto her forehead. The room was dimly lit, the curtains still closed, but she could make out a tall shadow moving somewhere near the foot of the bed. She fluttered her eyelids closed for a moment more, desperately trying to piece together her memories from the night before, which currently sat at the bottom of her subconscious, shattered into thousands of broken fragments by far, far too much alcohol. At this small recollection, a series of images flashed in quick succession behind Jennifer's papery eyelids. Firstly, shots, secondly, shots, thirdly, shots. Her stomach gave a small lurch at the memory and she smacked her lips softly, trying to move past the small wave of nausea. Next, Jen remembered the stickiness of the dance floor beneath her feet and the smell of stale booze and cigarettes as bodies closed in around her. But then through the darkness she spotted two blazing eyes, burning into her own and it was her heart this time that lurched as more images flooded her mind.

Him. His eyes, his smile, his lips pressing firmly against her own, his gentle touch that seemed to light fires on her skin. Suddenly, one of the best and most satisfying nights she'd ever had came rushing back to the forefront of her mind and she found that her skin seemed to tingle with the memory of the sensations she'd felt after sleeping with this man not once, but three times. Similarly to him, she'd never met a partner before who had wanted what she wanted, or been able to fulfil her desire for more, and she was usually always left somewhat disappointed and frustrated, which recently meant she avoided it altogether. She'd come to accept she may be a little unusual when it came to sex, but this person, whoever he was had surprised her. Pleasantly so.

Now fully accepting her own consciousness, Jen flicked her eyes back open and they slowly took in the tackiness of the hotel room, before landing back on him. What was it he told her his name was? Liam? Lenny? Luke... Lucas? She couldn't be sure but it sounded familiar to her. She studied him silently from the bed, grumbling something about sunglasses as he pulled on his clothes, covering the form she'd been quietly enjoying again with her eyes. A small semblance of disappointment washed over her when she realised he must be planning to dash out before she woke up and her eyes narrowed in distaste. Usually she was the one sneaking out. Slowly, she started to move her body, pulling the covers back and sitting on the end of the bed without acknowledging his presence any further. She languidly reached for the shift dress she'd been wearing previously and pulled it over her head, standing to pull it down so she was fully covered. She ran long, slender fingers through her tousled dark hair and started towards the curtains.

"Planning to make a quick get away were you?" She commented blankly, opening each curtain one by one, so the sunlight streamed into the room again, illuminating every corner. Jennifer was somewhat taken aback by how astonishingly handsome Lucas actually was, and she gaped for a moment or two before mentally shaking herself out of it and turning her back on him.

Lucas heard movement behind him and a quick glance confirmed that the human was beginning to rise. Her eyes watched him as he searched for his things and he was acutely aware of how her eyes roamed over his back until he finally managed to grab his shirt and pull it over his head. She did not call out to him and he said nothing to acknowledge that he knew she was awake. He was curious about her reaction and what she would do now that they were both aware. Humans had a series of different reactions and it was fun to guess the motivation behind it and speculate about their histories, decisions and how they even ended up in his bed in the first place.

And he also didn't remember her name. J something but he hadn't cared to remember. She wasn't the first one night stand he'd had and she most likely wouldn't be the last. But, she certainly had been better than most of the others. And she was pretty. Her slightly disheveled look was appealing. Part of him was curious if she would be just as much fun sober and if she would be interested in another round. Their night had been one hell of a time. No, he reminded himself. His mother requested that he be home to escort her to the Grand Circle. If he dallied too long here, he was going to be late. Of all the things he was, he was not dishonorable or rude to her or the Grand Circle. His mother had given up much to keep him protected over the years and he owed her his respect. And the Grand Circle... well, they held sway over them all and as the black sheep, he needed to always be early, be perfect, be respectful and bend over backwards to keep any semblance of peace and standing. It was demanded and his Honored Mother would not suffer because of him.

The human's words brought him back to the present moment and he looked up just as she started to open the blinds. He winced as the bright rays once more assaulted his senses. he barely reigned back a hiss in his distaste and instant headache. He raised a hand to block the direct light from his eyes and averted his gaze. At least he could feign the sensitivity as part of a hangover. He cleared his throat and turned away from the light. "Ugh, do you mind? The sun is too bright," he murmured. He saw his sunglasses on the floor beside the nightstand then and quickly put them on. Much better. Best human invention ever.

With his eyes now protected, he looked back at the human. Was she angry about him trying to leave? "Well, I was indeed trying to leave without bothering you. In my experience, most one night stands don't care to wake up besides the person they slept with, especially if alcohol was involved. Don't worry, I was going to pay the hotel bill and pay for the breakfast buffet for you. I am not a complete jerk," he said with a little quirk of his lips. "But I must say, We had fun last night, I wouldn't be apposed to keeping each others number whenever we feel like we need another hook up. No strings attached, no commitments," he mused.

Jennifer observed as Lucas complained about the sunlight and plucked his sunglasses from the floor, fitting them on his nose a second later and covering up the light blue gaze which she was sure was what had caught her attention last night. The corner of her mouth wobbled a little as she fought away a smirk. "Your hangover must be worse than mine,' she mused, completely oblivious as to the real reason he protested the light and also unable to recall how drunk he had actually been. She cringed internally when she remembered her own misdemeanours and let out a gentle sigh as she continued to gather her own things, a slow and prickly sense of self-loathing seeping into her thoughts. It had been a while since she'd done anything like this and she was quickly remembering why she'd sworn off it in the first place. Although her jagged memory assured her that last night had been the most fun she'd had since before she could remember, she was beginning to question if it was worth how she was feeling now.

As Lucas spoke again, and broke her little reverie, she sat down on the end of the bed and pulled on her shoes, before wandering over to the mirror that sat in the corner of the room and attempting to fix the mass of messy curls that hung wildly around her face. Jen didn't look at Lucas as he spoke about paying the hotel bill. She'd been bitten before when a one night stand had left her with bill to cough up for and she wondered if he meant it about paying before he left, or if he'd just been caught out. From experience, it was probably the latter she thought.

"Sure you were," she mumbled around the bobby pins in her mouth, that she was using as an attempt to tame some of her hair into a low bun at the base of her neck. She should make some attempt look somewhat presentable on the bus home. At Lucas's next request however, she stopped and straightened up to face him, her head dropping slightly to one side as she contemplated what he'd said to her. Well she'd certainly never had that before.

Generally Jennifer was a bit of an outcast and somewhat of a loner. She scrabbled through life, mostly failing to make any kind of meaningful connections. She didn't really have any direction or goals she was working towards, she was just kind of... floating. She worked two jobs to keep up the rent on her pokey apartment and she had one best friend who kept her in touch with the outside world. In truth, Jennifer had always felt a little... different in ways she couldn't explain. She'd never been able to place why or resolve her need to be distanced from those around her. She didn't have a big family to take care of her, just the odd phone call from her mother now and again and the odd email from her brother who lived on the other side of the world. How her life had turned out didn't really bother her, she'd grown slightly numb to it and was suddenly unsure of how to react to this person in front of her who was asking for a little bit of her, even if it was just for sex.

"Hmm," she pondered, trying to decide whether to relinquish her number. She also had a lot of fun last night but wasn't sure if she wanted him to know that just yet. Or maybe he already knew. "I don't usually make the same mistake twice, but maybe... an arrangement could work?" She phrased it like a question, before wandering closer to him and coming to stop just in front of where he stood. Leaning around him, she grabbed some paper and a pen from the side and scribbled down her number, pressing the paper against his chest before returning the pen to its original position. "Thanks for the room," she smirked, before grabbing her bag and heading towards the door, excited and regretful about the decision she'd just made.

Lucas couldn't help but grin at the woman as she sauntered over to him and wrote down her number. So she decided she was game for another day. He watched her as she left the hotel room and unfolded the paper she'd handed to him and looked over the script. The only thing she didn't provide was her name. Damn. He was going to have to ask Dante what her name was. He had introduced the two at the bar, said something about working with her. He pocketed the number and dusted himself off to try and smooth out some of the wrinkles in his clothing. Though he tried not to show it, he was dreading the rest of the day. He never liked going to Grand Circle. They always found a way to degrade his family or him specifically as the next head in line after his mother passed. Those thoughts immediately wiped away the mirth of the morning as the vampire headed to the front desk to pay for the night and be on his way.

~~

It had been two weeks since he'd seen Jen and met with the Circle. It already felt like months and he was feeling overwhelmed by the pressures surrounding him. His mother had made a match for him. She wanted him to marry Elizabeth Calaren; a vampire whose bloodline had deep roots among a neighboring coven. Lucas had met Elizabeth before and their personalities did not match. She was arrogant, pampered, and held a viciousness for humans. Understandable of course, considering humans had driven them to the brink of ruin, but perhaps it was his lines weakness that still saw potential in them. Most vampires saw humans as cattle so really, he was the oddball. It was a perspective he would take to his grave for fear the covens would take it as a sign that he agreed with his father's desires and would one day try and do the same. He was sure he would be beheaded or tied out to die in the sun for his treacherous thoughts.

They would never understand and he had too much to loose to try and change anything. Regardless, he thought Elizabeth was annoying and he did not relish the idea of spending a lifetime with her at his side. Besides, why would she be willing to marry him? Most of his family's wealth and all their lands had been taken. He had nothing to offer aside from the purity of his blood. Was he really just a stallion for her desire to amplify her heirs? His mother had made it clear he'd be marrying into her family line, not the other way around, to try and reduce the stain he'd leave behind. That made his heart ache. It meant his family name would die and forever be remembered as the ones who let vampire hunters into the world, the Heralds of the Dark Age.

"Ouch!" the human growled in front of him when Lucas pressed the syringe a little too hard into his vein. He'd had to pierce the man's skin twice now, missing the vein earlier in his distracted state.

"Sorry," Lucas murmured and eased up the pressure of the syringe before he place the small tube to start collecting the man's blood. Today was the lab's biggest donation day and they'd had humans lined up left right and center to give blood. Sure, the blood bank saved the blood for when humans would need it for emergencies, but what they didn't know was that the coven owned it. Some of that blood went to feeding them. It was how they were able to hide amongst the humans without strange occurrences of constant bites or dead animals circulating the rumor mill. Lucas found it a rather brilliant idea. No one died, no one discovered them, and it was hassle free.

When he was done collecting the blood from the human, he placed tape and a cotton ball on it to stop the bleeding. Damn the man's blood tasted divine. It made his mouth water. Okay maybe that was the one down side; chilled and microwaved blood never tasted or smelled quite like fresh, warm blood did straight from the tap. "Thank you for your donation sir," he said then with a dazzling smile. The man grumbled as he wobbly moved to the next station where he'd get his water cookie and rest. Lucas tore his mind away from his troubles and focused on the humans in his line instead; helping the time go by faster as he watched the blood fill the tubes. When the day was finally over and the blood placed in their labeled storage, he and the other vampires that worked there got their blood bag rations to take home.

Lucas sighed to himself as he placed the blood in his own freezer and dropped to the couch. His fingers tapped against the soft armrest as he debated what he wanted to do. He didn't want to think of Elizabeth, the undesirable marriage and death of his family's legacy, and the denial of the Circle to allow him to pitch any ideas of leadership. They had no intention of letting him prove himself or rise in station again. So instead, his mind wandered to Jen. She had been fun, distracting, mysterious. She would be able to occupy his mind and help him distance himself from it all. He nibbled on his own lip, a sharp canine lightly piercing the skin, enough to draw a bead of blood which he lapped up.

After another moment of deliberation, he pulled out his phone and pulled up the human's number. He traced the send moment as he read her name before he finally pressed the button to initiate the call. He raised the phone to his ear and waited for the human to pick up. It had been a little while. Would she even be interested after his silence?

Re: BloodLines *one on one*

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby SilentButterflies on Tue Jul 07, 2020 4:04 pm

In the time that had passed since Jennifer had spent the night with Lucas, her dreary days seemed to tick by steadily as they did any other week. She had immediately caught the bus home after leaving him at the hotel and chewed absently on her bottom lip as she became lost in her own mind, questioning why she had so easily given this stranger her number, and also questioning why he had wanted it. For the next couple of days she found herself checking her phone regularly and each time she was greeted with a 'no new calls' or 'no new messages' screen, and each time she felt her chest flutter with disappointment. She couldn't quite grasp why she felt this way, she was sure that Lucas was just another hook up to her, another in a long line of hook ups, so why did she want him to call? Was she desperately trying to grasp onto the feeling she'd experienced the night before, when she was so used to feeling... well, nothing? Yes, that was probably it, she decided matter of factly before putting her phone down on her desk for the 10th time in the last two hours.

As the days went by though and normality resumed, Jen found that the disappointment eased and her expectation waned, the usual numbness resuming pride of place at the forefront of her mind, occasionally giving way to a small voice which questioned why Lucas would take he phone number if he didn't plan to call. But Jen often squished this little voice with a reminder of the self-deprecation she'd experienced after the event and convinced herself that she was content with his decision not to see her again.

Friday rolled around quickly this week and after she packed up her desk for the evening, Jen silently clicked off her desk lamp and slipped into the bathroom, where she changed into her second uniform of the day. Jennifer worked in a sales office five days a week and then at a small downtown bar on Friday and Saturday evenings. By Sunday she was generally so tired that she slept most of her free time away, except for her daily run, (which had become considerably longer recently as she found that her endurance had improved considerably), before restarting her mundane reality again on the Monday. It wasn't the most exciting way to live but it paid her bills.

Once Jennifer was changed into her black shirt and matching skirt and tights, she pulled her hair into a topknot, a few loose tendrils escaping around her ears before she packed her office clothes into her bag and started the gradual descent from her office to the busy street below. The fresh air brushed against her pale cheeks whilst she walked, flushing them slightly pink as she meandered her way through the bustling streets, arriving at a small side alley, where a bouncer lifted a rope for her so she could enter her second place of work.

Jennifer descended the stairs into the bar, which was still quiet currently, and was greeted by a few familiar grunts from other bar tenders before she made her way into the back room. As she pushed open the door, Jennifer spotted Mia, her best friend, sat on the small window ledge in the corner of the room, wrist dangling out of the tiny window, a cigarette between her fingers.
"Hey Jen," she drawled, lifting her spare hand into a little wave.
"Hi," Jennifer replied plainly, pushing her belongings into her locker. "You know you shouldn't be doing that in here," she pointed out, to which Mia responded with a simple shrug.
"Yeah we both know that," she quipped, taking another drag.
"If Mike catches you, you'll be out."
"Mike Shmike, he never comes in here, don't stress it." But with that Mia crushed the end of her cigarette and hopped down from the ledge. She smiled at Jennifer, grabbing a garish red lipstick from her bag and applying it to her plumpish lips. "Ready for another night of fun, Jenny?"
"Ready as I'll ever be," Jennifer rolled her eyes but offered her friend a smile as the blonde flounced her way out into the bar. Mia had been Jennifer's best friend for as long as she could remember - they were like chalk and cheese in a lot of ways but they always had each other's backs when it counted. They spent a lot of time together in the evenings after their shifts at the bar, Mia smoking and talking mostly and Jen just listening, but they'd bonded over their mutual dislike of customers and disengagement from 'normal' life, whatever that was.

It was with this thought that Jennifer went to follow her friend, but was stopped by a vibrating sound against her leg. She pulled her phone out of the pocket of her skirt and squinted at the screen, which flashed up a number that she didn't recognise. Jen frowned and went to put it back into her pocket, before thinking better of it and clicking the answer button. Lazily, she lifted the phone to her ear and answered with a simple 'Hello?'. Given the quick transition between jobs and the time that had passed since she'd seen Lucas, she did not give a thought to the idea that it might be him on the other end of the phone.

Lucas himself was just in the middle of trying to talk himself out of this nonsense. He'd never called a human specifically for a hook up. Hell, he'd never taken the number for one but here he was. Why? Was he really as weak as the others said? Was he so desperate that he was now reduced to actively calling humans to get his frustration and loneliness out? His family was the strongest purist line and here he was-

"Hello?" came the reply on the phone when the ringing abruptly ended. Lucus sat up on his couch and for a moment he was silent, unsure what to say. What did one say when calling to hook up? It was far easier to just go to a bar and use alcohol or dancing as the precursor to getting laid. And he really hadn't expected her to answer the call. Sure she didn't know his number prior, but still. Realizing he was taking too long to answer and she'd probably hang up, he cleared his throat indicating there actually was someone on the line.

"Hey," he called. "This is Lucas. I assume this is Jess, right?" She could have given him a random number after all. "We hooked up a couple of weeks ago. I was... around and free this weekend. I was wondering if perhaps you wanted some fun tonight." He answered. "If not tonight, like I said, I am free this weekend." He rolled his eyes then. Great. Now he sounded damn desperate. Not what he was going for. The great cunning vampire and here he was making blundering social mistakes with a human. Well, whatever. It was just a human.

There was a slight pause after Jennifer answered the phone, before Lucas's voice responded on the other end of the line. Jennifer felt her eyes widen in surprise momentarily as she mentally tried to regain her silent composure. She was glad that you couldn't see through a phone call. Speaking to him in the bar felt like some kind of encroachment on her personal life and she wasn't sure if she really wanted to mix the two things, part of her itching to hide her phone away as though it wasn't happening. Somewhere in her mind she was sure she was maybe a little pleased that he had rang but after giving up on the whole idea of it, she wasn't sure how to take the phone call forwards. However, any momentary pleasure at hearing his voice dwindled quickly when he called her Jess, replacing any other emotion with irritation.

"Yes this is Jess," she replied, trying to hide the smirk in her voice. I mean, he didn't mean anything to her, she wasn't sure it was fair to expect him to remember her name, when she hadn't been sure of his until he'd confirmed it just seconds ago. It wasn't like their evening had exactly been filled with meaningful conversation. But the whole thing didn't stop her from wanting to have a bit of fun of her own. "I think I remember you..." she lied, leaning against the lockers. "I'm actually working this weekend."

A million thoughts a second were rushing through Jen's mind as she contemplated whether she wanted to revisit the events of that evening two weeks ago. If you'd have asked her just afterwards she would have jumped at the chance... but now? She felt much less confident and even slightly annoyed at the idea of the arrangement. But then she had given him her number. She battled internally for a few seconds longer before letting out a small sigh. If she took him up on his offer, she'd be giving herself in to an evening of feeling something, and that had to be better than the evening of feeling nothing that she had planned. As she'd thought originally, this little arrangement could do well for the both of them.

"But I clock off here at one." She recited the address of the bar to him. "That's if, you can't wait until the weekend?" And with that she disconnected the call, anxiously pushing the phone back down into her pocket as though this would prevent it from causing her anymore discomfort. She didn't know if he'd show up but she found herself clock watching already as she pushed through the door and started her shift behind the bar.

Lucas couldn't help the smile that touched his lips when he got confirmation that indeed this was the person he'd been with that night. She didn't sound very enthused though. Understandable since he hadn't called, but he had said no strings. This was just a hook up. She'd given him her number so why did she seem annoyed on the phone? Humans sometimes didn't make a whole lot of sense to him, but ah well.

Lucas's smile fell a bit when she said she'd be working this weekend. Damn. He wanted some distraction, something he could focus on that wasn't a responsibility. It looked like she wouldn't be game tonight so he'd have to go prowling himself. That could be fun, he supposed, but also increased the chance ofrunning into other vampires and he just wasn't in the mood to field insults and barbed jokes. It was probably best though, not to see the human or call her ag-oh! She gave him a time she'd be off work and an address. He scrambled to grab a pen and paper and quickly wrote the information down. He was about to say something else but then she hung up the phone. Well, she was abrupt, wasn't she?

The vampire grinned at the address though. This was going to be fun. Lucas ran to his fridge to warm up some blood and get some food in his system so he didn't go nibbling on pretty necks and had better control of himself. Now he needed to find a way to distract himself until it was time. It was grueling, staring at the clock, but he managed to do things around the house while he waited. As the time drew closer, he got anxious and quickly showered and prepared himself for the night, pulling on some tight clothing to be enticing to his lady friend tonight.

At last, it was time to go. He drove to the location she'd given him and was surprised to see the bar. For some reason, he hadn't pictured her working at a bar. Then again, who was he to judge? He entered the bar and looked around for his human in question. He hoped she didn't just leave, forgetting their arrangement. It would suck.

Jennifer's shift went by slowly, a steady flow of customers moving in and out of the building, a few rowdy groups livening the place up momentarily before moving onto their next destination. Jennifer and Mia half-joked and half-grumbled through drinks orders and avoided the usual chat up lines which came their way. Jen on average got maybe one offer every two nights from people who wanted to buy her a drink and go someplace else for a 'chat' when she was finished. More often than not, she politely declined. Mia's record however was something else in comparison, and Jen usually watched on in quiet contemplation as her friend left with another customer. Tonight might be roles reversed though, she observed, wondering if she should explain or simply attempt slip away quietly with Lucas if he did turn up.

As the bar started to wind down, Jennifer found she was becoming more tense, the amount of times her eyes flickered towards the door increasing. There were a few quiet customers finishing off their drinks and one rowdy group who didn't look set up for moving anytime soon. As she moved her way around the tables collecting empty glasses, she passed by the table, explaining that the bar would be closing soon.
"Aw c'mon," one of the men from the group complained, "That's no fun. How about you get us one more drink, for the road?"
"I'm sorry, my hands are tied," Jennifer replied, "Last orders have already passed." Before she could move away however, a strong arm snaked around her waist, pulling her into the side of a large looking male who looked considerably drunker than the rest of his group.
"Don't be a killjoy," he laughed. "You're up for a bit of fun aren't you?"
"Let go of me," she hissed, noticing his arm tightening as she protested, her heart hammering.
"Let go of me," she repeated, louder this time, her eyes looking straight at him. Jennifer noticed the male's expression drop slightly as he met her gaze, his eyes widening and his arm falling away. He looked... scared Jennifer thought, who quickly moved away from the group who had failed to notice that anything was wrong in amongst their drunken jeers. Jennifer glanced back over her shoulder, unsure of what had just happened and noticed the man sat quietly, refusing to look in her direction.

"Hey, are you okay?" Mia hurried over to her. "They weren't giving you grief were they?"
"No, no it's fine, they're just drunk," she breathed, watching as the group got up to leave. She felt somewhat shaken by the event and avoided eye contact with Mia for fear of her asking anymore questions about something she didn't feel altogether comfortable with. Instead, she busied herself with cleaning down the bar, losing herself in her own worries for a while. It wasn't long after that, that Lucas walked through the door, seemingly looking around for someone, for her. Jen blinked a couple of times, having briefly forgotten she'd made arrangements after her shift. Needless to say, right now she felt like doing anything but another one night stand, but she'd asked him to come, she couldn't turn him away now.

Jen made her way over to Lucas, slowly taking in his form and choice of attire; she'd forgotten how pleasing he looked, whilst she was sure she looked quite the opposite. A few more stray hairs had fallen out of the top knot on her head and she felt grubby from the day. Really, she was starting to think better of accepting his invitation to meet up and tried not to let this show as she looked up to meet his gaze. "Hi," she greeted. "You're early. Were you eager to see me?" At this question though, she couldn't help but smile slightly, picking up some glasses from the table next to him.
"I just need to finish up here but I shouldn't be too long, would you like a drink?" Jennifer glanced back at Mia who was staring at the two, eyebrows raised into a question mark. She could feel a few pairs of eyes on them, taking in the unusual scene of Jennifer speaking to somebody she knew.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby FaddedFox on Wed Jul 08, 2020 10:23 am

Lucas hated loud music and yet he was drawn to the beat and the fun bars represented. They were a place where pretty much anything went. There were few rules, no one knew each other, and you could pretend to be anyone you wanted to be, forget who you were and just enjoy yourself for a few hours. Sure his ears would be ringing later, but this was increasingly becoming his scene. It was the one thing his mother begged him to stay away from that he couldn't adhere to. It was one of the few vices he allowed himself to entertain. He was glad he did have some blood tonight though. Several people he'd passed smelled absolutely divine. Dark night, he missed the hunt. It has been several years since his kind actually stalking. He shook his head to clear his mind.

The vampire's gaze flickered cross the people that remained until his eyes finally fell on the woman he'd intended to meet. A smile quirked his lips and he strolled forward to the bar, confident and bold in his stride. He easily sat down at the bar in front of her, his eyes flashing a moment in his excitement and delight that she was here and not sending him on a wild goose chase. She looked a little worn, but it was to be expected since she'd been working. Her smile was appealing. Perhaps she hadn't been as annoyed and angry on the phone as he'd initially assumed.

"Good evening," he purred. "I would love a drink," he mused, his eyes flicking briefly to her flutter jugular. Focus he reminded himself. "Just a couple of shots of whiskey will do me nicely, Beautiful" he requested. "And I was indeed eager to see you." he admitted and accepted his first shot and threw the alcohol down his throat. He relished the burn as he placed the glass back down and let his eyes wander over the woman. "You just about done here, yeah? What did you want to do after? Go to your place, mine, go grab something to eat? I am all yours for the night." He grabbed the second shot and threw it back as well. It would take a ton to get him to any level of drunk so he wasn't worried about drinking too much. He wasn't interested in getting drunk. He planned to remember everything tonight.

"So what is your full name? All I have to go on is the nickname our mutual friend Dante gave me," he mused.

As Lucas sat at the bar, Jen swiftly provided him with his whiskey, watching contemplatively as he swigged it back without so much as a wince. She wondered if he planned to get as drunk as he probably was the first time they met, of course unknowing that his tolerance of alcohol wasn't exactly human. She listened to his suggestions, immediately mentally dismissing the idea of taking him back to her place. She wasn't sure she was ready to let him know where she lived just yet, she'd only just gotten used to him knowing where she worked. Plus, she didn't exactly live on the best side of the city. Would he judge her when he saw that side of her life? She didn't know him well enough yet to know if that kind of thing bothered him.

"What, no Silver Sun hotel tonight?" She quipped, recalling again the evening they'd shared previously. "How about we go back to yours and grab some food on the way?" She hoped that once they got there he'd offer her a shower so she could at least freshen up and wash away the working day, and some of the anxiety that had settled in her stomach after the incident just a few minutes before. Jen shook herself out of her thoughts then, putting his shot glasses into the washer and untying the apron that was tied at her back. At his question regarding her name, she stopped.

"And what nickname would that be?" She queried, her eyes studying his. She knew Dante from work and forgotten he'd introduced them. "My name is Jennifer, so you were pretty close with Jess." Smirking to herself Jen straightened then and hung her apron under the bar. "I'll be two seconds," she explained before wandering into the back room, pulling her hair out of it's tie and grabbing her things. A quick check in the mirror later and she went to return to Lucas, momentarily stopped by Mia who stepped into the room before her.
"Who is that?" she gushed, jutting her thumb towards the door.
"Who?" Jen replied innocently.
"Oh don't give me that, you know damn well who." Jennifer giggled at this response.
"He's just some guy I met the other night. Honestly Mia, it's nothing to get excited about. I'll see you tomorrow." Ignoring the blonde's protestations, she left the back room quickly, bag hooked over her shoulder. "Ready to go?" She asked Lucas, welcoming the escape from the eyes which were still following them around the room.

As they reentered the outside world, Jennifer enjoyed the fresh air against her skin and breathed in deeply, exhaling the stress of the day. There were still streams of people stumbling around, she noticed as she waited for Lucas to lead the way. As they began walking, Jen glanced sideways at the tall form beside her, her arm brushing lightly against his. "So why did you decide to call me tonight?"

He chuckled lightly as he leaned back in his seat. "Nah, I am feeling a little more.. refined, tonight," he answered her. "The silver Sun hotel does not fit that category, nor is it conveniently placed. I'd be happy to stop and grab some food on the way back to my place. It is about a 30 minute drive," he explained. He didn't much care for human food. It was tasteless to him and more akin to eating ash. The texture of the food made him want to hurl, but he could suffer through it to appear human. You had to be a good actor if you wanted to survive, and human food wouldn't do much to him. Maybe make him a bit sick later if he ate too much of it. He'd be careful.

When she mentioned her name, he winced. "Jennifer," he repeated. Oops. He could have sworn Dante said Jessi or Jessica or something. No wonder she'd been a little salty on the phone. Well he'd make it up to her. He hated when people called him by the wrong name after all. "For some reason I thought he said 'Jes'" he explained. He gave her a nod and turned his gaze away as he waited for her to return. He didn't have to wait long. He offered her a smile as he got up and moved to her side to take her arm. It was the old blood; humans didn't quite act like lords with a lady on their arm, but it was ingrained in him and when he wasn't drunk, he tended to side with tradition.

He led her to his car and opened the door for her as she asked him the question of why he had called that night. He didn't answer until he got into the driver's seat. "I was thinking about you; wondering what you were up to. And I remembered the night we did share. You are interesting. I simply decided that perhaps you would be up for a little company as well," he answered though he glazed over the real reason why he'd called her. "So what would you like to eat? I'll grab whatever you want before we head to the house."

Jennifer was surprised as Lucas took her arm, but she didn't say anything, instead enjoying the warmth of their closeness. She marvelled at his manners, recalling that they were quite hard to come by these days, especially in situations such as there's. As they walked to his car, she found that internally she was questioning whether this had been a sensible decision - after all, she didn't really know Lucas at all and she was about to climb into his car and let him drive her anywhere he wanted. She hesitated when he opened the door for her but thought better of it and quickly climbed in, dismissing her doubts in favour of the thrill of not knowing. If he did turn out to be some kind of murderer, it would probably be one of the most interesting things to happen to her.

At his response to her question, she settled back into her seat, somewhat satisfied with the idea of him thinking about her. But it was his next sentence that made her turn in her seat slightly, so she could see him better in the darkness. "What do you mean by interesting?" she asked. She wasn't altogether sure that this was a good thing.

When Lucas asked her about food, Jennifer thought for a few moments, nibbling her bottom lip as she tried to decide what she wanted. Food these days was more of a need than a want to her. She ate when she needed to, sometimes forgetting until her stomach protested. She shared a similar distaste for it as her company did, but for very different reasons. "I don't mind," Jennifer shrugged. "You choose, I bet you know where does good food on your route home. I'll eat anything."

As they started to move, Jen settled into her seat, clipping on her seatbelt. She felt a little drained from the day but was very aware of who sat next to her and why they were on their way to his house. A little tingle of excitement fizzled down her spine at the thought as she stole another glance at Lucas, admiring what she could make out of his profile. "So, where do you live?" She asked. "You're not kidnapping me are you? Or taking me back to your lair, never to be seen again?"

Well, crap, she wanted him to pick what food they grabbed? He didn't have the same taste buds as humans. He also didn't think she'd be okay with general fast food. He'd offered to pay and grab her dinner. That felt like more than drive through burgers and tacos. He didn't ordinarily bring anyone home either so he'd never bothered to take notice of the restaurants around his house. He didn't want to sit in a restaurant either. What to do what to do? His eyes caught the Chinese food place and he lit up a little. Chinese food noodles weren't too bad and soups sat better for his stomach than most of the other foods. Chinese food it was then. "The Chinese food restaurant right here is not bad. What do you want?" he asked as he headed for it and memorized her order.

"And you're interesting because it is not often I actually enjoy a one night stand as thoroughly as I did with you; and you are the only one who even gave me their number. You are different. There is something about you I can't quite put my finger on that makes you intriguing. Why did you agree?" he asked then.

At her comment about kidnapping, he laughed. "Well yes, as a matter of fact, I am taking you to my hidden dark lair where I am going to ravish you and you'll never see the light of day." He gave her a wink then as he parked in front of the Chinese food place. "But to reassure you, I did pick you up at your work where there are cameras and a coworker saw me with you. We are now at a Chinese take-out place where my car and face will also be recorded. If I was kidnapping, I've given law enforcement too many easy ways to find me." He got out of the car then and stretched. "But if you are nervous, you can always run away. Last chance," he mused before he went on ahead into the store, giving her the opportunity to leave if she really wanted. He wasn't interested in rape or scaring off his partner, but he wanted to be clear. Hopefully this show would allow her to put some more trust in him. "I'll grab wontons!" he called from the door, indicating he had confidence she'd still be there when he returned to the car.

Completely unaware of the difficult position she'd put Lucas in, Jennifer agreed to the suggestion of Chinese food, requesting a rice dish when he asked for her order. She listened to him explain why she was interesting and struggled to hide a smile, mentally reminding herself that this was a no strings attached agreement. It was strange how easily their conversation flowed, considering she'd only met him once before and Jennifer found that her barriers were beginning to wobble, as though they were keen to come down and let him in. She had to remind herself however, that nothing good could possibly come of that. And would he want that from her? Probably not. At his next question though, her smile fell away a little.

Why did she agree? That was a good question. Jen thought for a second. "Well I didn't have a better offer," she retorted, turning to face him with a snicker. "I'm kidding. I feel the same way you do. That night... was enjoyable. I've never felt that way before." She sighed, almost instantly regretting her openness, a small blush sprinkling across her cheeks. Being this way with someone didn't come easy to Jen, simply because she hadn't had much practice at it.

Jennifer observed his laughter with a small smile of her own. "Hey, don't worry, I don't really think that, it just crossed my mind," she mused. "I'm sure if you did want to kidnap me you could have done it already. I'll stay." She watched as he went in to get food, giving him a little wave at the mention of wontons. In the silence he left behind she rested her head against the window, wondering what it was about Lucas that made her feel at ease and on edge all at once. Her eyes flickered closed momentarily, and no sooner had she shut them did she hear him opening the car door, returning with her dinner. "Thank you," she mumbled, wondering how long the rest of the journey might take them.

"So just to reassure me that you're not really going to ravish me to the point where I won't see the light of day," she joked, "Tell me something about yourself. Something that not everybody else knows."

Lucas saw Jennifer's closed as as he'd come back to the car and wondered just how tired she might be after her work. He felt a touch bad but she'd feel amazing once they got to his home and they got nice and cozy. He did have a kick ass shower that was sure to perk her right back up. The thought of her walking out of his shower in just a towel and smelling like his soap made his hairs stand on end. It was a tantalizing image. Lucas wanted to floor the gas and get back to his house asap. He swallowed dryly as he sat down and offered the bags of food to her. When she opened her eyes and gave her thanks. So not asleep just yet.

Lucas started driving again, maybe a little faster than he had been earlier. He put a smile on his face as he thought about what he could tell her. "Aw, not enticed by the idea of me ravishing you into oblivion?" he mused and quirked an eyebrow at her. "I rather like that prospect. And hmm. Something about myself that not everybody knows." There were any manner of things he could say, that were not safe to say.

"Horseback riding. I really enjoy horseback riding, racing, feeling the wind in my face, the plane beneath us racing by in a blur. I don't get to do it often anymore and I miss it," he mused. "How about you? What is something not everyone knows about you?" he asked "And we'll be home in about 10 minutes. Did you want to use my shower to freshen up after work? It is all yours. I have clean unused towels in there. A change of clothes too if you want 'em."

Jennifer laughed when Lucas said that he liked the prospect, but didn't comment any further, assuming that he knew she did too. As he thought about what answer to give her, she watched the street lights passing by through the window, seemingly somewhat faster than before. The smell of the food filled the car and she nestled further back into her seat, somewhat content with how the evening was going so far, even if it had only just begun.

In regards to his answer to her question, Jen nodded, admiring the mental image of him on horseback. As if he didn't look majestic enough, the thought of him racing on a horse, with the wind ripping through his hair made her stomach flip over. "I've never been horseback riding," she said thoughtfully. "Why don't you do it so much these days, if you enjoy it?" When he flipped the question back on her though, Jennifer fell silent in thought again. She should have expected his interest in her own answer, but she wasn't sure what answer to give. Most people didn't know a lot about her, so she had a lot of scope for things to say, but those things weren't the most interesting of things. "I like running," she responded after a while. "I try and go for a run everyday. It helps to clear my mind."

At his offer of a shower and a fresh change of clothes Jennifer exhaled with relief. "That sounds amazing, thank you." Considering why they were going back to Lucas's house, Jennifer felt anything but appealing in her current getup, so she welcomed the chance to remedy this. Narrowing her eyes slightly, a hint of mischief glistening there, she glanced at him again. "You just want to see me in a towel," she teased.

As they continued on their way, Jennifer noticed the subtle change in houses on the side of the streets. They were getting bigger and cleaner looking as they drove further from the city and the neighbourhoods they drove through were becoming very different to her own. She felt her brow creasing slightly at the thought of her own apartment and wondered if she would ever feel comfortable enough to invite Lucas back to her own place, should they ever decide to meet up again. For the rest of the journey Jen fell into a contemplative silence as she pondered if Lucas would want to see her again, and whether she wanted to see him.

Lucas chuckled lightly. Running? She liked running? Well there was always a certain appeal of the physical exertion. There was any manner of things he could say about running that she wouldn't understand and would probably cause her concern. Prey and hunter references weren't always welcome by humans, after all. And he didn't want to ruin their new found ease in conversation by making jokes she wouldn't get anyway. "Running is good exercise in the morning," he said then. "I should probably do that more. As for horseback riding, I just haven't had the time." And most places weren't open at night. He didn't like horseback riding during the day as much. He got too much of a headache.

At her towel comment, he grinned. "Maybe. I do fancy the thought of you wet and dripping," he teased playfully. And that's about when they entered his his neighborhood. Though disgraced, the coven still ensured their nobility lived well. His house wasn't as grand as the others, but it was clean, it was his, and he lived comfortably. He parked in front of his large one story and turned back to the human. "Well, here we are," he mused and got out of the car. He opened the door for her and offered to take the food as he led her up to the front door and then into the house. He flipped on the lights to reveal a well manicured home. Everything has its place and he hated messes so he always kept it immaculate. And vampires always tended to have a few OCD tendencies.

Lucas set the food down on his table and started to lay out the packages. "I suggest food first. It will get colder if you take the shower first." He hurried into the kitchen to pull out the plates and set the table. "I'll tour you around after we fill out bellies. You're more than welcome to have some of my soup. I don't eat a lot," he mused as he poured some of the soup into a bowl for himself.
