Ai Xulan, once a member of the Royal Quan Guard, is known throughout the land as one of the most powerful warriors there is. His skill barely matches by any but a few other of the land's elite soldiers. His rank in the Royal Guard was that of Captain, and he had, on many an occasion, stood beside the king to defend his life.

For an unknown reason, even to Xulan, he was removed from the Guard, and sentenced to death. It was likely some political thing, something he had sworn never to be involved in. And, as a man of his word, he has never done so. He was to be executed, as was always the case, in a forest, solitary. Decapitation was the bill of the day for him. Luckily, as much as he is able to use near all weapons, so is his body as effective as a blade.

He fought his way from the executioners, killing all but one. He left that young teenage boy to deliver the message Ai Xulan, greatest warrior of Quan, had been successfully killed. The boy was given one chance, and informed he would die if he failed in that task. He did not fail.

Ai Xulan is considered dead by the Royal Court, and by the vast majority of the public, although his memory still lives on, and people revere his great skill.

What is unknown to most, however, and even those who have dealings with him, is that, across the kingdoms, Ai Xulan is operating as an assassin, earning considerable money. His residence, unknown to all, is in the mountains, hidden deep within the bamboo forests. Surrounded by tall, strong bamboo, the man, nay, the legend lives within a great temple that had been left abandoned by some unknown party.

Now, as he feels the tensions rise in the land, he makes preparations to raise not a single assassin as he now is, but an army of them. Choosing to train them himself, Xulan begins to scour the land for young warriors who show potential. His intentions to bring them back to the temple, and teach them the ways of the warrior.

The temple, named by himself, if the House of Daggers, named such because of the thousands of daggers that would pierce unwanted visitors to the area, traps created by himself. House, also meaning family, will be the name of the assassin band he will create.

An Gan Xu

A young man, tall and thin in stature, the lean body curved and shaped by the years working his families farm during his youth, An had fled the small village when the raiders came, burning and slaughtering the people, taking the young girls and woman.

The boys and men slain where they stood, well not exactly, they were offered a chance to fight first, yet none of the farmers had experience as a fighter. When they refused to take the weapons offered they were murdered where they stood.

An fled from the village, the small place he had bent and twisted his body into to hide had been in danger of burning, with him inside. As the raiders made their way from the carnage and fire, their minds bent on rape and other sports they reserved for the woman they captured. An made his way from the horrific scene, turning one last time to see the place he grew up, burn to ash.

That was three years ago, now An is older and much…no not much wiser, but older. He has watched from the shadows the fighters of the land, watching and learning wushu, but without a proper teacher, his was a mishmash of disparate styles and techniques.

An is fast and has strength that is often hidden by the baggy clothes he wears, yet he has no formal training.

Jiao Lan Qiang

When Jiao was born, the first thought that ran through her father's mind was that he would, in a few year's time, have an appropriate gift to give to some minor lord if ever he met one that pleased him. And so he ordered the girl to be raised to be obedient, meek, beautiful, and full of grace. As the years passed, she learned to be three of those four things.

The details are fuzzy, but at some point Jiao vanished from her father's expansive house. If any living soul knows what happened during the four years before she resurfaced...then they are well in hiding. But when the raven haired woman, destined to be little more than a concubine for some mildly pleasing lord, appeared back in the public eye...she was far from the meek little doll that her father had hoped for. Somehow, somewhere, she had begun training in the martial arts. She now carried with her a broad sword, with crimson tassels dangling from the hilt. Her eyes, always carrying a sort of bright darkness in them, had taken on a new ferocity. But her return was not quite so glorious as perhaps it might have been...had she trained for a few more years. The teenaged girl made her way through her father's home, working her way towards his chambers. Why? To kill him, in revenge for her bleak inheritance? To demand a better future under his name?

It didn't matter, for she never got a chance to speak with her father. Instead, she was stopped by one of his better guards. There was a fierce battle, and Jiao was defeated. She nearly lost her life, and indeed would have if she had leaned to the right just a fraction of a second later than she did. As it is, the slice that would have taken her head instead left a fine scar trailing along her jawline, only noticeable in the right light.

Now, Jiao feels as though she has been shamed. Though she is still not yet a fully grown woman, she considers herself a proven failure in the martial arts, and has rededicated herself to training. She has wandered the hills, nooks and crannies to further sharpen her skills...and though she is intermediate in her fighting prowess, the fact that she is not yet a master works constantly in her mind. In accordance with her small, smooth frame, Jiao is considerably weak in terms of musculature. Her strengths lie in flexibility and considerable speed, and she relies upon both to avoid coming to situations where physical strength would be the determining factor.

Zhu Lian

Born to a poor family he worked in the familys' paddy fields all his childhood, the many days of endless work toughened him up giving him a slightly muscular build.

When Zhu Lian came of age he was drafted into the People's Army, a simple grunt he was usually tasked with the meager tasks the higher ups had no intention of doing, Zhu Lian did hear rumours of a great warrior amongst the Royal Quan Guard and made it his goal to become strong like that.

Zhu Lian was eventually promoted and was given a grave task, he was to accompany the soldiers to the execution of one Ai Xulan and ensure the execution went unhindered however a problem arose, the warrior broke free killing all but Zhu, the warrior left him with a message to deliver, "Ai Xulan, greatest warrior of Quan, had been successfully killed." The man told him failure meant death and Zhu was not about to die for this.

The message delivered Zhu Lian quit the army and returned to his family in the fields, he had taken a sword with him and continued to practice with, honing his skills to eventually fulfill his goal, "I will be the greatest warrior China has ever seen."

Ki Hiro Zhan

Ki is a short thin man, who was brought up on the road. His family are rovers, who travel the country selling there services to those they meet, whether it be working in the fields or moving goods about. Rovers are also skilled pickpockets and thief's. Ki learned this art quickly and is also light on his feet as well as being agile and nimble.

As the family move around a lot they, sometimes stay in hospitable place's so all men are trained to defend there homes and there lively hood. Ki has basic training with the sword and can handle himself well, though he is not the greatest swordsman in the family, he will try his best to one day he could be.

Ki though instead of fighting would like to perfect the art of pickpocketing, and being able to move around unseen, so he can go for the big targets stealing from the rich and powerful.
