Viva La Vida (OOC)

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Sheff on Sat Feb 20, 2010 12:32 am

Alright, first RP for this board. Lets warm things up, eh?

Story: Viva La Vida (yes, it is inspired by the song) takes place in the medieval times, in the kingdom of Sathran, it's capital the grand city of Soran. The former king has recently fallen ill and passed away, leaving behind an empty space on the throne. It is given to his only son (Sheffer), a young man who had only reached his eighteenth birthday a few days previous, forced into a position he seems much too young before, but takes it willingly. This in turn infuriates his uncle (Malus), one who thinks the crown is rightfully his. He proceeds using his power as the captain of the guard to kidnap the young king, throwing him into the dungeons and proclaiming him dead, announcing himself as the new leader of the kingdom as well.

Thanks to a series of events, involving the help of a close friend, Sheffer manages to escape his prison, fleeing from the city where he once ruled. Three years past, the fallen king finding a life beyond his kingdom as it slowly changes to Malus's false rule. Yet Sheffer, determined to take back his seat at the throne, returns to Soran. On the way, he will join with others, ones seeking a better life for the kingdom and its people.

This is Viva in short. You, of course, will come in as willing hopefuls to assist the king.

I'd like to make a few things clear first though.

I want somewhat experienced writers. I have already looked through some of the RPs on this site, and I have seen too many with only three or four lines a post. If you so desire to join Viva, I'm going to expect effort, same with grammar and spelling.

Also, Viva is going to have a sense of realism. Yes, it's set in medieval times, but I'm going to disallow any magic or other mythical abilities/objects/animals. I'm sorry if this discourages you from joining, and if you are really wishing to use some form of magic, please ask. There might be some boundaries I'll let you cross if we discuss it. (Also, due to this, I'm not exactly sure if the actual RP should be posted within the Fantasy section. If anyone has an answer to this, please tell.)

Now for a character bios... (I will use my character as an example.)

Name: Sheffer Hawkins
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Appearance: He has a solid height of 6', with short, dirty blond hair and blue eyes. His body is well built, yet still somewhat lean. Skin is a light/intermediate.
Personality: Usually a kindhearted fellow, one to help anyone in need. A hidden temper can be risen at times though, and sometimes difficult to stop. He is easy to talk to, but due to the events involving his fall, has become more quiet, not wanting to associate with much people, fearing being found by his uncle.
Background: The only heir to the throne, Sheffer grew behind the castle walls for most of his childhood. In time, he was privately trained as a swordsman and learning about his kingdom and people. With the devastating death of his father, Mattias, he took the position as king, beginning what looked to be a long rule. Betrayed by his own uncle and thrown into prison, he escaped, only to return years later with a goal to take the kingdom back.

Not asking for much there really. Just a small overview. Your character can essentially be anybody... well, except for big-ass sword wielding, anime hairstyle sporting, jumping off the walls like a monkey type person.

By the way, the song Viva La Vida belongs to Coldplay, and was only a source of inspiration to the story.

If you want to join, post a bio, and if there's any questions, please ask.

(Actual RP will be finished as soon as possible.)
Obla-di, obla-da, life goes on, brah....

Re: Viva La Vida (OOC)

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby MedliSage on Sat Feb 20, 2010 4:39 pm

Name: Grace Lawliet
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Appearance: Straight, dark brown hair that goes down to her chest, with a single thin braid on her right side, and has emerald green eyes. About 5'4", very light skin tone, slender build. She wears black, fingerless gloves, that reach past her wrist and cover the sleeves of her a tight, dark blue cloth shirt. A short, blue, bandanna-like scarf covers her neck. A necklace is under this, and it reaches below the scarf and onto her chest so it's visible; it's a silver chain with a sapphire pendant attached. A brown quiver on her back is slung over her shoulder, and a hook for her bow is attached to it for when it's not in use. Over the same shoulder is a satchel, where she usually keeps bandages, a writing utensil, and small book where she jots down her current happenings and condition; a diary of sorts. A small dagger sheath is sewn onto her belt, and the dagger she uses has a blue gem on its hilt. She wears a black short skirt with tight shorts under it, and black thigh-high socks, which leaves a small gap of skin still being shown between the skirt and said socks. Her dark brown cloth boots reach to her mid-calf.
Personality: She doesn't like to particularly interact with people; she prefers to work by herself. Despite this, she can't bear to ignore someone in need or in trouble -- on the inside, she's quite kind and caring. However, because of her dislike for social interaction in general, she usually comes off as cold and reserved, although she tends to talk a lot to those she considers close to her (something few have ever achieved due to the fact that she's very distrusting). She's intelligent and prideful; her pride being the source of the majority of the trouble or conflicts she may get into. Never before has she met someone who can be her peer in archery skills, and can become quite cocky when asked about her abilities in the field. She hates to use her dagger and does so as a last resort, mostly because it is precious to her and would hate to see it damaged; this, her bow and her pendant are her most treasured possessions, and nobody is allowed to touch them. She doesn't actually like violence or killing; in fact, she has quite the disdain for it, and would only harm something with intention out of self-defense. However, she does enjoy training and honing her skill, and gladly spars with anybody. Despite the fearless demeanor she puts off, she is quite afraid the dark, and is uncomfortable during thunderstorms. She doesn't like the rain, finding it depressing, yet enjoys snow immensely. Finally, she adores animals, and seems to interact with them much better than people.
Background: Grace grew up in a small village in a forest until she was nearly fifteen. She lived with her father and brother, her sibling being eight years her senior. Her mother died from illness when Grace was three years old, but often heard stories of the loving woman she had been from her father and brother. A little over a year ago, the village was pillaged and ransacked by bandits. Grace and several other villagers, including her family, attempted to fight them off, but to no avail. Grace was left unconscience during the chaos, and when she awoke, the village had been completely destroyed. Among the wreckage she found the corpse of her father, but her brother was no where to be seen. Knowing the leader of the bandits, she took her father's dagger and vowed for revenge, and now travels to work towards that goal, and also to find her lost brother. The pendant she wears was left to her in her mother's will, and the bow was crafted by her brother, a skilled craftsman who was taught the art from his father, as a gift. She also bears a grudge against the current king, blaming him for not taking care of the bandits before they ruined her village.

Name: Samuel Hopkins Hobbes
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Appearance: Shaggy brown hair extending to almost his shoulders, rough stubble, and sharp green eyes make up most of his obvious appearance. He's around 6 feet and 2 inches, and a generally fit body, though slightly underweight from his small income.
Personality: Generally a nice person, he has become slightly paranoid and distrustful of outsiders due to recent events. He can usually keep calm in most situations, though death affects him greatly in both physical and mental senses. He often worries, usually excessively, making sure everything is done right to provide the most success possible. He has a very militaristic mindset, and has studied military strategy extensively.
Background: Apprenticed as a luthier at a young age, he quickly found work in his 20s in the capital city of Soran catering to the rich and luxurious, rapidly gaining a respectable reputation in the city for his services. A strict loyalist to King Mattias, he was devastated when the leader passed, and suspicious when his son suddenly and allegedly "died". With Malus's sudden leadership, his suspicion grew more. Using his shop as a front, he's gathered as much info as he can in secret about the conditions of his rule and Sheffer's death, the evidence he found leading him to be almost convinced Sheffer was still alive. He lives in constant fear of Malus's guard, who have caught wind of his operation, leading him to spend many days on the run when they do a scan of his sector of the city.

Heh, nice to see people actually joining.

Anyway, you two both get a thumbs up to me. I appreciate the actual effort put into creating backstories for both, and they fit quite well with the situation.

If I get one or two more people to join, I'll get the opening done as fast as possible.

Name: Sable Lynn Jennings.
Age: 23.
Gender: Female.
Appearance: Rather short for her age, Sable stands at almost 5 feet and has an average, yet small body frame. She sports black eyeliner around her green eyes and medium-long, dark brown hair with curls at the ends. Often adorned in a black and gray, corset dress. Skin is a light, slightly pale color.
Personality: Usually cordial and friendly, she is often timid at first sight and interaction. Rather serious about the world and those surrounding her, she often doesn't takes things to a personal level unless she grows to admire certain people. A person of intense (though not professional) passion for opera, she expresses her creativity through artistic matters.
Background: Hailing from a family of troubles, she set sail from her home country and has recently moved to Sathran, hoping to settle down peacefully in the capital of Soran. She knows the gist of the whereabouts of this kingdom, but is a stranger to everyone. Her knowledge between the overthrow of the heir and the new king's position is very little, but from what she has heard, the new king is of no friendly sense to her. She lives in a village nearby the town, serving as somewhat of a hermit, but is seeking local work.

Name: Raven Arelli Curow
Age: 34
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 215 lbs.
Appearance Image
Personality: Raven is a man with a strong sense of justice. He follows the code of chivalry as a knight of Soran and has a strong affinity towards what is right and wrong. Though he may seem cold and distant at times, Raven has a kind heart and is known for his wisdom and strength on the battlefield.
Background: Raven was raised as a knight in the capitol of Soran and swore his fealty to the late king himself. He started as all knights do, as a page for another knight. Raven learned from the experiences of his peers as well as from their mistakes. He learned fast and fought hard, becoming the youngest knight in the history of the kingdom; being knighted at the age of 14. Since then he has risen in the ranks of the knights until he became the king's knight. The most honored position in the kingdom. He was fiercely loyal to the old king and his heart suffered a blow when he passed. Then, as with his father, Raven swore his allegiance to the young Sheffer. He felt himself to blame for the young kings disappearance and death, feeling he had not done his duty properly. Raven also suspected foul play was involved. Then, he heard rumor that the king was still alive. Though it was just a rumor, Raven felt it was his duty to seek out its truth. Now he searches for the trail of the lost king, but will lady luck cast him her favor?

There is a place within each of us where we cannot escape the truth; where virtue sits as judge. To admit the truth of our actions is to go before that court, where process is irrelevant. Good and evil are intents, and intent is without excuse.

Everything is fine and dandy, but except the part about Raven helping Sheffer escape. I already have a character in that spot (check out the RP) so please change a few details if you can.

Thanks.

Re: Viva La Vida (OOC)

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Smithy on Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:17 am

Name: Eve Roarke

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Appearance: Dark chocolate waves fell to just below her shoulder, equally chocolate eyes shone with her eagle eye sight. Adorned with a well tanned skin from spending her free time in the sun, tresspassing on farms to lie in the fresh air. Tall, most of her height coming from lengthy and sturdy legs. Slim, but toned. Her face was a soft square shape and when rested was plently attractive, but she was often keeping it stern, or in a deathly stare. She has a dog, sort of. A brown labrador crossed with something that made his ears fold back and his flanks arch to high up. He's really a stray she'd become acustomed to from her visits out on the farms. Most likley cast aside when income was to low. She found comfort in being able to trust this animal since he couldn't tell lies or relay her spoken words. He'd occasionally accompany her into town when she wasn't 'on the job.'

Personality: She wouldn't know how to describe her personality besides mistrusting and unsocialble. Though if she tried her hand at changing those ways people would find her a loyal, trustworthy member of their friends... She was a theif but not because she was dishonest, but because she was rebelling. Though to be a theif you had to have a certain amount of dishonesty. She figured if people knew she were a theif she wouldn't be trusted, and that people couldn't be trusted anyway. Trust issues. She is very headstrong and independant. She wont spare your feelings if she thinks you need to hear what she has to say, and what she finds as her best quality is her stubborness. Putting the world on her shoulder wouldn't make her drop to her knees for anyone.

Background: Being a headstrong and stubborn child she rebelled against her father at the young age of eight. Taking to the streets she found her talents in theft, particularly pick-pocketing. Almost eight years later she still recognised the face of her father in his uniform, hearing how easily he was bribed to change his tune about his by-the-book was to aid in the 'dissapearance' of a young king she was appauled but told no one, who would listen to a theif for one, and who could be trusted with thins information anyway. At 20 she was one of few to still survive in her profession. Dangerous work rebelling against the king, or in her eye not the king, but her father. She never saw her mother since she left at eight.

Re: Viva La Vida (OOC)

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Snowfall on Fri Mar 26, 2010 3:50 pm

Name: Katherine Green
Age: 32
Gender: Female
Appearance: Stands at an average five foot seven, though she is slight and fine-boned with a heart-shaped face and slanting eyes in summer-sky blue. She doesn't care for her appearance, and wears her ash-blonde hair in a simple single braid down her back. Her skin is tanned from many hours spent outdoors and her cheeks and nose are sprinkled with light freckles. She wears little armour, relying on her honed reaction time to keep her uninjured. Simple, light, silver-coloured protection over her torso and tough black leather boots are as far as she gets to preparing for battle.
Personality: She's fast and nimble, though she loathes combat, preferring to aid by treating wounds with remedies learned from her grandmother. Despite this, she's handy with a pair of knives; she keeps a knife sheathed on each hip for the times at which she has no choice but to fight. Essentially a gentle, quiet person, preferring to watch than to interact -- she thinks carefully before she speaks and will only say things that are worth saying. Because of her careful deliberation she often seems slow, but her comments are usually insightful. If she would be forced to lie, she would simply refuse to speak, and easily keeps her silence in most situations. She's a loyal person, surprisingly stubborn and firm if she needs to be; she values life and love above almost everything. She won't hesitate to help a person if she can, regardless of their alliances, and is a skilled healer. She prioritises this above all else and doesn't scare easily -- she understands the advantages of fighting for one's own beliefs.
Background: She lived with her grandmother for most of her life, having no memory of her parents. She grew up with a normal and basic life, marrying at 19 and living happily with her beloved husband for several years until he was murdered brutally by an intoxicated guard who was not disciplined for his actions. She fought for some kind of punishment without success, and withdrew within herself for two years, returning to live with her now very frail grandmother. When she, too, passed on, Katherine found herself alone in the world, scraping a living replacing her grandmother as a healer. This eventually failed her and she found herself desolate. With nothing more to do, she packed the few possessions she could afford to keep, and set off to make a new living wherever she came across first. With no knowledge of geography and no experience of life outside her small home, it was a surprise to her when she found Soran. Unable to afford anything more than a room in an inn, she searched hard for work. She is still searching.
She also sometimes cries in the night for her husband. When it gets too much and she can't sleep, she goes for long walks in the dark. She loves the sight of the moon and the chance to be alone.

Hope all is well. Thanks for the PM, too.
Yuki.

So, if you're reading this, please take the first opportunity you find to post. Need to get going here again.
