The new house is hard to sleep in. Mary would have never suggested a house in the woods but the circumstances of Davids full moon activities called for it. He couldn't be in the city when he changes, the population too great for him to control the beasrt inside ofbhim. David has plenty of control over the wolf but that's not aleays enough. And now with their child in the picture...Mary Harvey frowns as she looks at her stomach. Shes barely more than a few weeks along but she already knoes that the infant inside will be facing the same hardships that David has faced. She runs a hand softly over her exposed stomach, curling her white nightgown around her tightly.
David is the first to sleep as usual, giving her a breif kiss goodnight before rollingnover and passingnout nearly immediatley. It has never been that easy for Mary. Not with so many thoughts drifting around her mind. While David has little to worry about she has plenty on her plate and it takes a near hour for sleep to overtake her.
----
Mary Harvey is used to awakening in the dead of night from horrible nightmares. Its just the plague that her kind usually has to deal with. This time however as she awakens its with a sound, barely heard but still impossibly there. She has no time to shake her husband awake before slipping from her warm bed and grabbing a titanium baseball bat that's kept always by the door in case of an emergancy. Mary is extremely grateful for it as she creeps through the hallway towards the front living room. She pauses at the sound of breathing, her extra sharp supernatural senses picking up a heartbeat other rhan the ones that belong her in the house. With a deep breath and no noise to alert her presence she enters the kitchen - where the source of the sound is.
Her breath hitches, doing a double tale before swinging. Her mind screams at her that he's just a kid, a dirty one with more bruises than a kid should have, and a face filled with the horrors of a life probably not worth living. Hes eating their food, chowing down like nobodies business. She moves and is suddenly in view of his arm - her gasp is audible this time. No doubt he's been alerted to her presence, so she drops the bat, hearing it make a loud clanging noise as it hits the ground. She winces as her senses are overpowered by the sound.
"Mary?" Davids voice reaches her from the living room. His tone questioning and loud, he must have woken to the noise as well. Mary looks to the kid, hands raised lightly, a look on her face that's anything but hostile. Hwr instincts as a mother are kicking in, she wants to go to the kid and fix his arm up. The scent of his blood is heavy in the air, clogging her nose up and she's wondering if David has smelled it yet. She knew something was off about this kid, something inside of him.
He is like they are. Or atleast like David - a werewolf. From then looks of it though the kid isn't fairing well. She wonders where his kin are. She feels Davids presence close by her, she glances up at him from the corner of her eye. Hes sniffing the air, nose wrinkled lightly. His eyes set on tgebkid in a menacing look. Mary frowns, places her hand on his shoulder. "He's just a kid, he's hurt." She tells him, knowing that his senses to defend his territoty has already kicked in. She looks back to the kid, smiling softly and kindly. She takes a step foreward, testing how skittish the boy may be.
"Hey sweetie," the words roll off her tongue easily, as if they are meant for him and in a way they are. "Its ok, we won't hurt you." She assures, though she isn't sure he needs it. David growls a little as she goes nearer. He may have the strength to fight of another Werewolf but Mary isn't. If the boy attacked her she could die as easily as any mortal. But, something about the boy has her senses lit up, and her need to protect those younger than herself. She steps close enough to put her hand on his good arm, letting forth feelings of calm to try and soothe him. "I know this must be strange, I have abilities, kind of like yours. I know your hurting, please let me help?" Mary has always been sensitive to the emotions of others.
That's how she got with David in the first place, despite her parents constant worry and warnings. Shes not a werewolf, wich made them volatile towards each other. Her abilities stemmed however from latent witch-like power that runs through the female line of her family. Ever since she gained them her senses have been a mess, and she's taken to mimicing the behaviour of David. Speaking of David, he's stepped foreward now as well, not as close as Mary but enough to be able to see the ragged form of the boy.
"Where are your parents?" He asks gruffly.
(I've chosen to go with house in the woods. The family itself is still small, Mary and David have been together for three years and have just managed to get pregnant. David is a full werewolf - as to be a help of course. Mary however is mostly human with latent witch-like abilities in her blood. She cannot cast spells or anything but has extra sharp senses and is overly sensitive to emotions. I hope this is okay?)
“One of the most difficult of all things to endure for a crow, a raven, a wolf, or a human is to feel alone and separated from one's own kind. A sense of belonging is one of the most universal of all feelings.” ~ Lawrence Kilham
