Only days after the meteorite landed, the world was thrown into chaos. It began with insects and other vermin, victims to a parasite from another world. The media claimed that it would kill the host after a short period of time, converting the living creature into what many would call a "zombie". Shortly after, civilization became anarchy: hospitals and markets were overrun with the infected. TV stations were broadcasting only static, and the governments of the world failed to stop the alien invasion. Survivors are generally few and far between.
The city of Omaha, Nebraska was a thriving community only weeks ago. When the parasites landed just outside of the city limits, it was suddenly the most dangerous place in the world. Only weeks ago people were living normal lives, working a nine to five. Now the streets were cluttered with wreckage, cannibalistic creatures, and blood. Office buildings were converted into dens of decay and hopelessness. It was like something out of a horror movie. People were surviving any way they could, if they could.
It seemed the parasite would claim its host after approximately 48 hours. This was common knowledge. After the victim's body had died completely, it would only regenerate using the material from whatever it had eaten (which apparently did not include other infected creatures). After only a week or so, humanoid zombies would become grotesque abominations. Their traits varied from claws and altered bone structure to wings and additional limbs. Some grew to become immense, perhaps consuming animals much larger than themselves.
It seemed the only way to kill them was to stop their nervous or cardiovascular systems - the brain or the heart. It was also found that the parasite could be transferred via bodily fluids of any kind - blood, urine, saliva; whatever. As long as the parasite found its way into your blood, it would spread unhindered until its host was entirely consumed. There is no known cure, and life on Earth was quickly endangered.
This is the story of six survivors, 'living' in the most dangerous city in the world. Will these ordinary people survive in this new world, or will fate refuse to let them go?
