A famous hacker that had caused the nation issues for years finally was found and arrested. After quite a few years of dealing with the hacker attacking anything he could and gaining the fame he had, he was finally taken down. This hacker had taken credit for stealing money from some of the largest businesses in the world. He had shut down governmental systems and leaked information to the public. He had done many things that others were fascinated with, and that seemed like he was doing more good than harm. He was still seen as a criminal by the justice system and seen as one of the biggest targets in cyber crime. Once he made a mistake, every crime unit was out to get him. He didn't last long and even went willingly when they found him.

Though, to the surprise of the agents that found him, he was a young adult and still had exceptional computer skills. Someone in the agency decided to give this hacker a chance to redeem himself and had him become part of the agency as long as he was always monitored closely. Everything this hacker did was watched. Of course, this hacker couldn't be trusted to stay alone, so an agent was selected to keep this criminal in their home and make sure the hacker stayed within the rules that were set by the agency. Now, with the two live together, the hacker stays at the agent's home and helps the agent in his activities through the use of computers.

The two are seen as partners and don't really work with many other agents. The two get a case, and the agent does the ground work while the hacker works on anything digital. Occasionally that means that the hacker is gathering information, other times that means that the hacker is just keeping an eye on the agent through camera systems. They learn to work together and a love starts to blossom from this partnership.

Space travel is something that has been done by a select few, but it isn't something this planet is interested in, so it isn't done a whole lot. It's mainly something done for study and nobody plans to really use that power to colonize other planets. Those that do, are seen as crazy, since it's not a common interest or a solution to any of their problems. Outside of that, most people rely on mass transit to get from place to place. Planes, Boats and Trains are used to get to far off places, while buses are used for smaller distances. People may rent cars to get from place to place or hire a taxi service. Cars that are owned are generally owned by the rich and cars and buses drive themselves now.

In the world of health, there are robotic prosthetics for those that lose a limb. They move just like a regular limb, but do take some time for the technology to understand what the wearer wants, but after a while of having the new prosthetic the limb will move just as naturally as what it replaced and occasionally even better than that. Stem cells and cloning are used to replace damaged organs, on occasion something electronic used instead, but they are seen as just a cheaper option that will need to be replaced frequently and run with risks. There is also some human augmentation, those that want stronger limbs bur really have no medical need will get robotic prosthetics or those that want better eyesight that is better than that of a normal human might switch out for robotic eyes. This is also something done mainly by those that have a lot of money to spend and not done by the average person. These objects are also made to keep the wearer looking human, so it does cost a lot more than some of the other options that don't require synthetic skin or natural looks.

In a more domestic place, homes are all smart houses. Sensors are everywhere that sense when someone is home, lights will turn on in rooms where people are and will turn off when people leave. Refrigerators are able to tell you what you have in stock and suggest recipes for what's available and also give a grocery list for those that plan meals ahead of time. Rooms are kept at temperatures to what the person prefers. The wealthy have humanoid robots that will clean their homes, take care of their laundry and have personal assistants. Some of these robots are even trusted to watch and care for children. In a more normal family a person may have a automated vacuum cleaner that takes care of cleaning the carpets daily and a robot that mops up floors. There might be an AI assistant built into the house that is just a voice over a speaker system.

As for how everything is powered, solar power is the preferred method. Most things run on electricity and most things use solar power, usually gathered from more desert like areas and then transported around the world, but more sunny areas may still have solar panels on their roof tops. People have also found a way to harvest energy from magically imbued objects, so those may be used to power a system as well and would run kind of like a battery that can be recharged.

Grayson walked out with handcuffs on and two police officers on either side of him. The red and blue lights flashed against his pale skin while his eyes stayed on the ground. He didn’t even keep his head upright to see where he was going. His glasses threatened to slip from his face. He walked slowly with one of the police officer’s hands on his shoulder to push him forward and steer him in the right direction. It didn’t look like there had been a struggle to arrest him, there was only a wound on the Grayson’s hand that was bleeding rather badly. But no bruises accompanied that wound and there wasn’t anything else but that cut. The noise around them was so loud, other police officers trying to talk to one another, crowds of people trying to make sense of what was going on and news organizations standing by to find out the identity of the great and famous hacker, Techsigma.

The cops pushed Grayson into the police car and left him alone as they went to go control the scene. The young man sat quietly in the car, leaning on the door to look outside and watch the scene that went on around him. He could see people taking pictures of him through the window as he stared blankly back at them. He seemed to just stare right through everyone that tried to catch a glimpse at him, as if he weren’t really alive.

That incident had now happened about a week ago. Things weren’t going much better for Grayson, but at least he wasn’t in jail. After his arrest, he had been brought to the agency. The government funded law enforcement that takes care of big cases. Those that are wanted by the agency should be terrified of getting caught because they’ll never be leaving jail. He had been lucky in this case and they decided to give him a deal. He’d be put under house arrest, but he wasn’t allowed to stay at his own home. He would be monitored at another agent’s home and everything he did would be monitored. In exchange for this less harsh punishment, he would have to work for the agency. He would be working with the agent that he lived with, and put his computer skills to better use as the head of the agency had told him.

Grayson had been silent in the car ride. He had been rather quiet through this entire thing. Any questions were answered simply and straight to the point. He never gave long winded explanations or stories. Any information the agency wanted, came from other sources for the most part. He didn’t share much about his life, but because they knew his true identity of course they were able to find out who he was, they knew what school he graduated from, when his mom had passed away, the fact that he was the legal guardian for his little sister and that his little sister was in the hospital. The things they couldn’t find out from official documentation were just things they’d have to find out on their own. Even that deep cut he had on his hand. All they knew was that it was self inflicted, since that’s all Grayson would say.

When the car finally stopped, Grayson unbuckled his seatbelt and grabbed his personal belongings from the car. He only had the one suitcase. He hadn’t been allowed to keep his computer as that was now locked away at the agency for further investigation. All that was left was his clothes and a few pictures that he kept with him. He didn’t have much else that he had. Anything belonging to his sister had been removed and put in storage for her and the furniture in the apartment building belonged to that apartment complex.

The moment he turned around to follow his new housemate inside, he paused. He hadn’t gotten a clear look at the home until now. It was large. He had never lived in anything but an apartment, he had no idea what to expect from an actual house. His parents were always too poor to own a house and he certainly never spent his money on one. He started to suspect that the agency probably bought this place up and moved both of them into it, instead of just having him move in with the agent. Why would someone have such a large house meant for just one person? It seemed so unnecessary. If his family could live comfortably in a three bedroom apartment, he couldn’t see why one person would need an entire house to themselves. It took him a moment to shake off the surprise and start moving again, dragging his suitcase behind him.

After a long silent ride home, Grayson said his first words "This place is huge." It sounded much more like a statement and less like someone who was in awe. It was as if it were just an offhanded statement as he made his way to the entrance.

It had been such a strange day for Jaxson. Hell, it'd been a strange week. Filled with excitement just like any other, but also one hell of a plot twist. In all of his time working in the agency, it was the first time he'd seen this type of criminal. A hacker to be exact. Most hackers never made it past the first fire wall, let alone into top secret, highly encrypted material. As much as Jax felt annoyed with the guy for giving more work than usual, he had to admit it was somewhat impressive, what he'd done. Why he'd done it was beyond him, and if he had to be honest, he didn't exactly care nor did he plan on sticking around long enough to find out. That is, until he was told he would be playing babysitter for the young criminal.

Why they'd chosen him to do it was something no one in the agency had the decency to explain. All he'd gotten was a load of bullshit about being one of the "most skilled and trust-worthy" agents they have, to which Jaxson didn't fail to protest against. If he was one of, that meant that there were others just as skilled and trust-worthy that could easily do the job. The solid reason as to why he'd been chosen had yet to be revealed to him. The twenty-six year old began to think that the only motivation behind it was to annoy the hell out of him as they so often loved doing. And it was definitely working. He may have joked about wanting a roommate from time to time, but it certainly didn't mean they had to actually give him one. Let alone an ex-criminal. Surely it wouldn't be long before he lost what small amount of sanity he had left.

"This place is huge." were the first words Jaxson had heard from the kid. Jax remained silent, mildly surprised by the sound of the voice. Not that there was any specific way a criminal should sound, but this boy- Grayson if he recalled correctly -didn't really sound like one. His voice, just like his looks, resembled that of a high school senior. On the other hand, he looked just like what one would expect a computer wiz to look like. Pale, skinny, glasses, and most likely socially awkward.

"That it is" he said as he followed the instructions he'd been given to get them both inside. His finger quickly tapped the security code into the small number pad by the locked door, revealing a small scanner. His palm was placed on it for a couple of seconds before it disappeared. The locks could be heard from the other side until finally the door could be pushed open. Lights flooded the spacious house as the two walked inside. This was only Jaxson's second time here. The first time he visited was to retrieve some things for his boss. Never in a million years did he suspect that he would be coming back to stay. Despite having grown up in a mansion, he much proffered his cozy little apartment he normally stayed at. "Fair warning, don't ask me where anything is 'cause I most likely won't have a clue." he stated before switching his attention to the buzzing device in his back pocket. The call was placed on loud speaker as the young agent went about his business.

"Jaxson, where the hell are you!" The baritone voice echoed through the vast living room. Usually, the superior's voice alone was enough to strike fear into any man, but when said man is scolded as often as Jaxson tends to be, it looses all impact. "I'm babysitting, just like you asked me to, sir. Did you forget already? That's an early sign of old age, ya know?" he responded with a sprinkle of sarcasm. A loud sigh was heard on the other end of the call before the man spoke again in mild irritation. "This is the eigth time I call you. Are you ever going to learn to answer when I need you to." There's a mischievous smirk on Jaxson's face as he makes his way over to Grayson, plucking the suitcase out of his hand. "Maybe someday, sir, maybe someday." This time his cheeky comment is ignored as the boss gets straight to the point.

"All of your belongings have been moved in, and anything else you two might need. Check your messages and reply to the last one I sent. You will be getting a new mission very soon."

"Aye aye, captain."

"And please behave, I don't want to-" the call is cut off by Jaxson's finger hitting the end key as he walks by, gesturing for Grayson to follow him to his new room for god knows how long.

Grayson looked over at the agent as he spoke to him. It was probably the first time he had made eye contact with anyone the entire week. He had kept his head down most of the time, choosing to stare at the ground most of the time, if he was being transported, he stared out at the window. He avoided looking up as much as possible. He had only observed the agent from his peripherals which was not really great at making out details, and he wasn't so sure he had ever gotten a good look at the man's face. He wasn't sure what he was expecting, but it definitely wasn't someone that still looked rather young. And that face...he wasn't really expecting someone so handsome.

"Fair warning, don't ask me where anything is 'cause I most likely won't have a clue." Grayson blinked a few times when he was brought back to the present. He wasn't quite sure how long he had been looking at the man, or what expression he had had on his face that entire time. He quickly went back to looking at the ground as the two moved inside and the agent took a phone call. At least the agent's statement confirmed that this place was likely owned by the agency and not him. It made Grayson feel a little better, he wasn't quite sure why, but it did.

He nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard the man on the other end of the call. He hadn't been expecting the agent to put the phone on speaker, much less hear that intimidating voice so soon after they had left the offices. He, of course, had reason to be afraid of the man. That man had threatened him quite a bit in the past week, since Grayson was a criminal. He had done things that were against the law, and if he were to step outside the guidelines the agency had set up, he was sure he'd face a much worse fate than just jail time. At least, that's what that man had threatened him with. Though, the ex-hacker had been caught off guard by the voice he had enough sense to at least hear what the man was saying. He caught the name of the agent and made a mental note of it.

He had paused while the agent was talking, since he wasn't quite sure what to do from this point. Now that they were in the house, it really dawned on Grayson just how much different life would be. He looked around at the living room, his eyes pausing on the bits of technology in the room as if he were planning something. He was. He was looking at every object trying to see just how much of this stuff connected to the internet and figuring out what sort of online security stuff he'd have to put into place just to ensure his own safety. He may be working for the agency now, but that didn't mean he was going to trust them to keep him safe while he hacked from them. He knew the other hackers out there. He knew how terrifying they could be. He was nothing compared to some of the others. He was good at what he did, but he also had a line he didn't cross. He never harmed others, there were other hackers out there that didn't have that line. Actually, a lot of them didn't have that line.

He caught bits and pieces of the agent's conversation with his boss. It definitely stuck out to him how this man treated his own boss. It was strange and unprofessional. He wasn't quite sure how the agent could get away with treating his boss like that. But, he didn't really have much time to think about all this new information coming at him so quickly, as the agent grabbed his suitcase. Grayson just looked at the man, not quite sure what to do about that, he was capable of carrying his own things. Once again, there wasn't much room for talking as the agent just showed Grayson to his room.

Before they were able to get to the room though, Grayson's head cleared from all the information he was gathering for just one moment. He realized that there was something much more important to him. "Um...I know this is probably way out of line, but...could I borrow your phone?" Grayson spoke up. He hadn't talked to his sister in a week, she had to have seen the news by now. She had to be worried about him and it wasn't like he was allowed to keep his phone. He wasn't trusted enough to have one. He had to call her and make sure that she knew what was going on. He wasn't quite sure when he'd be able to visit and he had to make sure she knew she wouldn't be going back into their father's custody. "I-It's for a phone call. I promise."

Five different security cameras hung up in the hallway that connected both rooms, at least five that Jaxson could find. For all he knew there could be five, ten, fifteen more. Surely there was one hidden under every nook a cranny because that's something the agency would do. He'd been warned ahead of time that it was for his own protection, and at the time it made sense. He'd be living with a criminal, for god's sake, so of course they'd need to keep an eye out for their agent. But now, getting a good look at the lost and confused boy trailing quietly behind him, it almost felt like the cameras were meant for Jaxson instead.

Not that it would be surprising. Something told him that if they were to measure both Jaxson and Grayson on a scale of who would be the most dangerous and utterly lethal, Jaxson would come out victorious in flying colors. It's no secret that the agent had a tendency to do as he pleased, taking advantage of his ranking and skill was something he had become known for. Something many of the other agents complained about. Something along the lines of Jaxson "getting special treatment", and yes, perhaps it was true. But ask around which of them had to pure guts and skill to do what Jaxson did on a daily and not a single one of them would raise their hand. He may have special treatment but he sure as hell has earned it.

"Um..." the quiet voice almost made Jaxson flinch, not having expected it to cut through the silence. Clearly this would be happening often. "I know this is probably way out of line, but...could I borrow your phone?" stopping dead in his tracks, the young agent turned to face him, brows slightly furrowing together. His dark eyes examined every inch of the young man's face. Such an innocent appearance made this entire situation almost impossible to believe. "I-It's for a phone call. I promise." Jaxson's eyes narrowed at that, arms folding graciously over his chest. He stood close enough to tower over the helpless hacker, unintentionally giving an intimidating aura. He said nothing for several long seconds, only keeping eye contact. In all his years as an agent, Jaxson has become fairly skilled at reading others, even through the smallest of details. And against his best judgement, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small device, holding it out for Grayson to take.

"Keep it on loud speaker and stay where I can hear you." it may have sounded like an invasion of privacy, but really, privacy was something neither of them would have for a very long time. Their lives had been forcefully meshed into one now, and Jaxson no longer had a choice in the matter. Not that he ever really did. Dropping his arms to his side, he took at seat at the edge of the bed, waiting for the boy to do what he needed to do. Had it been anyone else, Jax wouldn't have hesitated to throw in a few threats, but somehow...they didn't feel necessary.

Grayson tried hard to cover up his surprise when the man had just handed over his phone. He expected a lecture followed by a firm denial to let him touch any phone. He felt that acting as surprised as he was would have made Jaxson think twice about giving him the device to call his little sister and he could really let that happen. He wanted to talk to her, it had felt like forever since he had last heard her voice, even if it had only been a week. He needed to make sure that she was alright, the stress of this whole situation could have made it hard for her to fight back against her illness. He'd have to just take the hit to his own privacy and let the agent listen to the call. It wasn't like his sister was going to give away any information that was important, she knew just about as much as what had been spouted out on the television.

Finally the boy dialed the number to the hospital. He continued to stand and stare at the device in his hand, finding that much more important than the rest of his room. "This is Mercy Hospital, may I ask why you are calling today?" The voice on the other end sounded robotic, like an automated voice messaging system. "I'd like to speak with Olivia Clark in the intensive care unit," Grayson answered as he finally looked up and took in the surroundings of his room.

"Please hold while we patch you in," The automated voice spoke. Grayson said nothing as the line went dead again. He corrected the glasses on his face and looked at the night stand by his new bed that held a lamp. It had a few drawers, but that was about it, but was rather empty. He didn't even have a nightstand at his old place, so he wasn't quiet sure what he'd do with that thing, other than apparently hold a lamp. His eyes moved over to the bed that was nicely made with clean blankets and sheets. It looked comfortable much more comfortable than his old bed. Which was the same mattress he had been sleeping on for most of his life and certainly didn't have a bed frame or a box spring like the one he had now. It was also much larger than his old bed, which he hadn't really expected. Actually the entire room was larger than his old bedroom, so much bigger. He was quite sure half of his apartment could fit in this bedroom.

"H-Hello?" A girl's voice finally spoke from the device. Her voice sounded kind of raspy as if she had been coughing for a while. Grayson nearly smiled just hearing is little sister's voice again. Happy that she was still around and alive. She could still speak to him and that's all that mattered. She was alive still. "Hey, Livie, I-" Grayson didn't even get a full sentence in before the girl on the other end cut him off. "Gracie! Oh my god, you're alright! You are, aren't you? Th-They've been saying some terrible things o-on the news about you. I-I just couldn't believe it. What happen-" Olivia's sudden flood of words were cut off by a series of terrible coughs and any smile that had been on Grayson's face quickly disappeared.

He waited for the coughing to stop which seemed to take a good minute or so. "Livie, calm down. I'm alright. I-I did do some bad things, and I got arrested. But, I was able to avoid going to jail. For now, you're still under my custody, and everything's going to be fine," Grayson explained to Olivia. The girl on the other end was quiet for a long while as if she were soaking all of the information in, or maybe suppressing some more coughs. "Will you be able to come visit me and read books to me again?" Olivia asked after a long silence.

Grayson let out a sigh, keeping himself occupied by looking more at his room while he tried to think up how to tell his sister that he couldn't do that anymore. He didn't want her to worry, but he wasn't quite sure either if telling her that he was part of the agency now was against the rules or not, so he tried to be cautious. His eyes landed on probably the most important object in the room. A computer. If they were allowing him to have it in his room, that must mean there are plenty of cameras all over the place. There was probably even some monitoring software on the computer to make sure that he stayed on their side. He started to move towards it. "Sorry, I won't be able to come around and visit you. I still did some bad stuff, Livie and I'm getting punished for it. I just wanted to call you and make sure you knew what was going on." He said as he got a better look at the computer.

"But, you said you weren't in jail. Gracie, how am I supposed to do anything with out you? You're the only one that visits me," The girl argued. Grayson ran a free hand on the top of one of the three monitors. He had used just an old laptop to do everything. He had never imagined working on a machine that had three monitors. On one of the three monitors there was a wireless headset neatly placed and hanging from the monitor. Grayson picked it up, he had seen these in the stores that costed a couple hundred dollars. "I'm sorry, I just can't visit you right now. Maybe...later," Grayson muttered as he placed the headset back on the monitor and ran a hand on the keyboard. Clicking in a few of the buttons and hearing an audible click from them. He always loved the sound keyboards made, especially the ones that were loud.

"Grayson-" The girl huffed before letting out another long line of harsh coughs. This time Grayson didn't wait for her to stop "Olivia, you're fourteen. You can read your own books now. I know it's hard, but you have to understand that it's not possible for me to visit you right now. I'll try to call you when I can. That's the best I can do," Grayson argued. The girl's response was a harsh, "Then don't bother." Followed but the line going dead again. Grayson looked sadly at the phone for a moment before finally handing it back over to Jaxson.

"Thanks for letting me call her," Grayson sighed as he grabbed his suitcase and sat it over by the dresser.

As a lover of privacy, Jaxson didn't exactly feel comfortable listening in on the boy's conversation. Still, he had already been passive enough by giving him the phone in the first place, thus putting himself at risk. Any electronic in the hands of a hacker was as dangerous as a handgun in the hands of a secret agent. In the end he had no choice but to sit silently and listen. Needless to say he immediately wished he hadn't. Behind all of the witty remarks and cheeky smirks Jaxson was so well known for, there was a child with a soft heart. Sometimes too soft for his own good, regardless of how many times he denied it. Every word exchanged between Grayson and this girl, who Jax assumed was the sister he'd heard bits and pieces about, left an imprint in him. Even if his face made it look like he really couldn't care less.

The abrupt end to the conversation brought Jaxson back to reality, his eyes zeroing in on the phone being handed back to him. He took hold of it immediately, not bothering to respond to the boy's gratitude, and got to his feet. A small tape icon on the upper left hand corner of the screen confirmed that the device had recorded the entire conversation, as it had been programmed to do. Not that Jaxson planned on going back to listen to it. Once was more than enough. His eyes wandered to the elaborate computer at the corner of the room for just a second, probably where Grayson would be doing most of his work, before switching back over to him. "Gracie, huh?" a playful smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. If there's an opportunity to tease, best believe Jaxson will always take it, regardless of who the victim is. "Cute." he added as his hand reached out to ruffle the boy's hair on his way out of the room.

If only the boss were here to see. There's no doubt in Jaxson's mind that the man would lecture him about being too "unprofessional", as he had done so many times before. Jax figures that eventually it will just reach a point where the man just gives up on trying and just lets him be. Come to think of it, that's probably where they stand now. Still, that doesn't mean that Jaxson is irresponsible. He's still one of the best, and still gets the job done one hundred percent of the time. which is why he chooses to do as he's told for once and reads through the messages the boss told him about. Something about his and Grayson's first case together, that's really all the agent could figure out after having read it over ten times. The words just weren't clicking like they should.

"Sorry boss, you'll just have to wait a little longer." he thought as he set his phone aside, hoping the hot shower he had in mind would help clear his head. It'd been one hell of a week, and even though his last case had been successful, it had taken a lot out of Jaxson. The experience of being an under cover drug-dealer was not one easily forgotten. So he hopped in a shower for almost thirty minutes, hoping to wash away a bit of the stress, not even bothering to dress properly once he was out. He had enough decency to put on a pair of sweatpants and socks before wandering down to the kitchen in search of food, but the shirt had been forgotten somewhere along the way. Old habits die hard.

Grayson rolled his eyes when the man decided to make fun of the nickname his little sister called him by. Still, he was happy to finally be alone once the man left. He had been around people all week and with no time to just be alone. He got exhausted by having to be social, and preferred being alone sometimes. He just wanted to have some time to himself for once. Of course, he didn't have a chance to use that time for relaxing and was forced to use it mostly to start working on making himself feel a little more at home. He pulled out the clothes he had in his suit case and started putting them away in the dresser. He had been so used to just dealing with his clothes in a piled heap all the time, and having no way of organizing anything. It was nice to finally have his clothes off the floor of his room, not that it made him feel much better once all of that stuff was unpacked. The room still felt empty, and unwelcoming. He didn't like it.

He looked back over at the computer, wondering if he was allowed to even mess around with it. He wanted to see what that thing was capable of, maybe play some video games, or watch something on one of the stream services out there. Instead, he thought better of it. It was probably password protected and he wouldn't be able to get into it unless someone else logged him in. He was still a prisoner, whether he was behind bars or on house arrest. He couldn't really blame anyone for it, it was his own decision to do all those illegal acts. With being such a criminal though, he knew that anything that connected to the internet would be especially off limits. There would be limitations to what he could do and when he'd be able to use such devices. He had to accept that he didn't really have freedom anymore.

Grayson finally decided on just seeing what the kitchen had in terms of snacks. He could spend his time reading until they got their first assignment and maybe just sleeping. He expected that a lot of his time would be spent sleeping or reading. With nothing else to occupy his time, since everything else was probably prohibited. He made his way to the kitchen and looked around in the cupboards and the fridge to look for some kind of snack. He settled on a bag of chips that were placed in one of the cupboards. It was a boring snack, but it'd do for now. He grabbed a glass and filled it up with water and was just about to leave when he found the agent wandering in.

He looked at Jaxson for a moment, nearly stunned that the man was walking around without a shirt on. Of course, that wasn't something to really be so stunned over, men didn't really have anything to hide on their chest. Still, it came as a shock to him and all he could manage to do was quickly look down at the floor and hope that his face wasn't as red as it felt. "Um...I-I'll be in my room, if you need me for anything," Grayson muttered, not exactly sure what else to say. He just grabbed his chips and water and tried to get back to his room as quickly as possible.

Of course the kitchen wasn't empty. For a moment, Jaxson had forgotten he had a roommate now, which meant he should probably try to remember to wear a shirt while walking around. Granted, that did not mean he would, but he made sure to make a mental note to at the very least try. His eyes grazed over Grayson's lanky figure and the chips and bottle of water in his hands before shaking his head slightly, his index finger tapping against his chin.

"Don't tell me that's your meal for the day." he stated, almost sounding offended. It was a typical hacker dinner really, considering they spent about ninety percent of their time in front of a computer screen and never had time for real food. Surely he hadn't had anything to eat all day. "Don't you think you're already skinny enough." he added, hands placed on his hips almost in a fatherly stance. It was odd really, considering Jaxson had never been the kind to go out of his way to care for others, especially someone he hardly knew. Hell, he sometimes even forgot to look out for himself. Still, here he was, standing in the middle of an almost empty kitchen staring back at Grayson, whom for the most part looked confused and flushed red, worrying about whether he ate well or not.

"Sit" he instructed, gesturing towards one of the bar stools as he rummaged through the cupboards in search of ingredients. Thank cable television for the cooking channel that allowed him to live on his own for all this time. He thought for a moment, flipping through his mental cooking book, before choosing a good recipe. Food was the one thing Jaxson always enjoyed, whether cooking it or eating it. It wouldn't be long before he and Grayson received their first mission, which meant that the two should start to get to know one another sooner rather than later. What better way to do it than over a meal.

After finding himself a shirt from somewhere nearby, the stove was turned on, the pans were heated and agent Lee made his way around the kitchen with ease, every so often looking over his shoulder at his audience. "So..." the man said as he whirled around, placing a small bite of the dish in front of Grayson for him to taste test. "Tell me about yourself, Gray." the corners of his mouth twitched upwards into a subtle smirk, now having become one of Jaxson default expressions. "If we're gonna be working together I need to know what I'm getting into." he joked, though it was Grayson that needed to be warned of what he was getting into with someone like agent Jaxson Lee at his side.

Grayson tried really hard to just make it to his room without having to enter another conversation or deal with this anymore than he had to. Too bad he didn't even quite make it out of the room before the agent pointed out what he had picked out to eat. He only ever learned how to cook a handful of things, and most of those things were frozen tv dinners and instant noodles. Both of which were things he had never cared for, and with his sister hospitalized he cared much less about eating actual meals. So, most of the time, he just ate snacks or a sandwich. On a rare occasion, he'd go to a restaurant and get food there. Self care had always been quite a low priority on his list of things, so he just ended up not doing any of it a lot of the time.

He didn't even look up at Jaxson when he criticized him about the replacement for a meal and just tried to keep quiet. He figured the comments would end soon enough and Grayson could go back to his room and read. Then the man told him to take a seat and he wanted to protest, but not even a word came out of his mouth. He couldn't really argue with him about it. He knew that he shouldn't just be eating some chips of dinner and calling that proper nourishment. It wasn't even close, but he really didn't want to have to sit down and wait for food. It brought up a lot of memories that he just didn't like to deal with. He didn't like thinking about those sorts of things. Still, without another word, Grayson took a seat.

When the agents back was turned, Grayson would look up at the man and observe what he was doing. Flashbacks of his mother working in the kitchen while he waited for breakfast, lunch, or dinner just flooded him. He had to close his eyes and stop himself from crying. They were nice memories and his mother had passed away so many years ago. He didn't need to remember those times. He concentrated on pushing those memories to the back of his mind and had nearly forgotten that he was in the room with another person until he heard Jaxson say, "Tell me about yourself, Gray."

His eyes quickly opened and looked down at the small dish in front of him. He looked up at the man that probably now thought he was crazy. He knew what he did was strange, but just kept his eyes on the dish as he hesitantly went to try it. "There's not a whole lot to say about me. I'm twenty three, grew up poor, have a sister in the hospital and I'm good with computers." Grayson muttered. There wasn't much else for him to say. He didn't like going into detail about his home life and he wasn't much for just spilling any sort of information out to the public. He took a bite of the food he had taken and paused. How long had it been since he'd eaten anything made at home? Whatever this was it was good and he could feel his stomach just getting hungrier from eating only one bite.

Jaxson watched Grayson with nothing short of pure curiosity, and maybe mild amusement. The answer he gave was short and straight to the point, not that the agent had been expecting anything more than that, but he would prefer it if the boy gave him something more to work with. He certainly didn't seem like the type to do much talking, unfortunately that was not the case with Jaxson who, according to his boss and some of his co-workers, didn't know when to shut his big mouth. Something Grayson would just have to deal with, because Jaxson Lee was not the type to change his way of being for the sake of someone else. "That's all I get?" he teased, turning his back to Grayson for a moment to finish up the rest of the meal. The entire kitchen smelled of Cajun spices and lightly fried rice. Perhaps it had something to do with his Chinese heritage, but beef fried rice and dumplings have always been a couple of his best dishes.

Fishing a dumpling out of the pan, he placed it on a napkin to cool off for a few seconds before turning heel and placing it in Grayson's plate. "I'm not asking for your entire biography or your deepest darkest secrets, just give me a bit more to work with here." he stated as nonchalantly as possible before turning back around to assort the food into dishes that would be placed on the counter for them both. Maybe this felt odd for Grayson, but truth be told, Jaxson didn't exactly make a habit out of cooking and sitting down to eat with strangers. He just happened to be the more adaptable one of the two. And maybe this was a bit out of character even for him, but the circumstances were just as unusual.

"What do you like? Other than computers that is." he asked, genuinely curious. Surely there had to be some things he enjoyed. Jaxson remembered the chief's first warning, then. "Don't get too personal with this guy, you don't know what he's capable of." but no part of that made sense in his mind. How then, were they supposed to work together if there wasn't at least some amount of trust? It was all too hypocritical of them, which never sat well with Jaxson. Teamwork is supposed to be built on trust, yet he's not allowed to trust Grayson. "What's your favorite food, let's start from there." he finally added, placing the dishes on the counter and taking an empty plate for himself before taking a seat across from the boy. Jaxson knew well that the boss would be watching their every move, and sooner or later he would complain about "fraternizing with the criminal", but the agent never really did as he was told anyway. There's no reason why this time it would be different.

Grayson glanced up at the man and then back down at the plate when he started talking about the small amount of information he was given. He wasn't one to just give out information like that, besides he didn't like talking about himself in the first place. He would much rather talk about a subject that he had absolutely no interest in. At least then he wouldn't be talking about himself anymore and things would be so much better that way. His past wasn't something he liked to talk about at all and anything he did after he moved out of his dad's house was just as uneventful. The only times he could think of that he would be okay with sharing would be those moments when his mother was still alive, but those moments hurt the most to talk about. It was just much easier for him to just not talk about anything at all. He just summed up his life in a couple of words, because that was just the easiest way to answer that question.

"What's your favorite food, let's start from there." Grayson had tried to just ignore his questioning and hope for a change in subject. Of course, that wasn't what happened, instead the man wanted to know more about him, to know more details. Pancakes. Mom used to make the best blueberry pancakes. They were always so fluffy and sweet and were good even without syrup. He immediately thought of the answer. Still, that brought up memories of his mother and the thought that he hadn't had her cook in a very long time. He missed those blueberry pancakes. He could probably answer that question without giving a good explanation on why he liked them. Just simply answer the question without bringing up the subject of his parents. That was probably the only way to answer that question. It would be difficult to continue a conversation like that, but he wasn't going to tell the agent anything more than that.

"Blueberry pancakes," Grayson finally answered as he ate the dumpling that had been placed on his plate. The agent definitely cooked well. The food was amazing and so good that it made Grayson just want to eat until he was actually full. That was a hard thing to accomplish, given that the boy had survived on snacks and frozen dinners for most of his life and he had been known to just go hungry if he didn't want either of those options. He'd even stop eating in the middle of the meal if he didn't enjoy the food, finding that he had eaten enough to at least seem like he was full. He grabbed more food from the dishes onto his plate and started to dig into the food.

Clearly, Jaxson had a lot of work to do to get Grayson to talk more. Or at the very least to give him more than two to three word answers. Still, at least he seemed to be enjoying the food chef Lee whipped up, which was a start. Not a very good one, but a start nonetheless. "Blueberry pancakes...noted." Jaxson responded, taking a bit more food into his own plate. He had to admit, even he was impressed with his cooking skills. They'd certainly come a long way from the very first time he tried making anything. The thought alone made him cringe. It wasn't the worst thing he'd ever tasted, it was still edible, but not an experience he would want to repeat. [color=#ff6666["How's it taste?"[/color] he asked after a couple more bites. He already knew the answer, but still wanted to hear it directly from Grayson. As long as they were living together, he wasn't going to let him get by on chips and water.

Before he could get an answer, there was a loud beep that came from somewhere nearby. Jaxson's chin lifted in curiosity as he looked around the room. That was a new sound. Vaguely familiar, but not something he'd heard very often or could pinpoint what it was coming from. There was a couple of silent beats before the beep came again, just as loud and just as annoying. At first, Jaxson's thoughts went to the fire alarm, but there was nowhere near enough smoke for that. His next thought was his watch, usually where he got most of his alerts for new missions, but the device wasn't anywhere near them. In fact, it was still upstairs right beside his nightstand. The beep came again and it took the agent a few more seconds to register the fact that it was coming from the intercom, right next to the front door. With an annoyed sigh, Jaxson got to his feet, partially dragging them all the way to the entrance. "Yeah?"

"Took you long enough. Let me in." the voice that came through the machine was much more familiar than the beep. Mark, one of the boss' goons probably sent to check up on him. Jaxson nearly rolled his eyes into the back of his head as he purposely typed in the security code to set off the intruder alarm. Within fractions of a second, there were various weapons of all shapes and sizes pointing directly at the agent standing outside the door, ready to tare him to shreds. "Jaxson!" Jax bit down on his lip for a few seconds to keep from breaking out into a fit of laughter. When he managed to regain composure, he spoke."Oh, my bad. Wrong password." he could practically feel the other agent's annoyance radiating through the thick door as he deactivated the alarm and opened the locks. As expected, he was meet with a stabbing glare the moment the agent was able to step inside. "Asshole."

"Why thank you." his responded, making his way back to the kitchen. He didn't miss the way the agent eyed everything little detail on his way there, nor the way he eyed, or rather glared at Grayson, the moment they stepped into the kitchen. "What is this?" the way he asked the question brewed a subtle feeling of anger in the pit of Jaxson's stomach. "What, is he not allowed to eat either?". The agent only shifted his gaze from Grayson to Jaxson, his eyes narrowing the slightest bit. "I thought you were told to not get involved with him." For a moment, Jaxson could do nothing but stare in complete irritation, mimicking the agent's stance folding his arms across his chest. "We're reating dinner, not making out. Now do you have a legitimate reason for being here or do you just enjoy being the most annoying bastard in existence?". For a long minute, it was silent, only broken by a loud smack of a stack of papers hitting against the kitchen counter followed by a short and bitter explanation. "Info for your next case."

Grayson opened his mouth to answer Jaxson when he had asked about the food. He was about to say that it was good, but instead there was a beeping sound. His mouth closed immediately and a look of confusion filled his face. He thought, for a moment, that the noise might have come from him. Once the sound was repeated, the confusion on his face lessened with the confirmation that the noise wasn't somehow coming from him. With the third beep, Grayson looked over at Jaxson, to see if maybe he knew what was going on. Apparently, he had, because the agent moved towards entrance. He sat there for a few more moments waiting for another beep, but when it didn't happen, he went back to eating.

Though, it wasn't long for there to be another, unfamiliar voice in the house, which made Grayson drop his fork immediately. He nearly fled the room, when he heard the man complain. He felt like he was stuck to his chair though, that leaving was not actually an option at all. He was a little relieved when Jaxson defended what was going on, but that didn't make him feel less awkward or less like the most hated person in the room right now. He just took to staring at his food and looking as small as possible. He didn't want to get involved with this and he definitely didn't want to provoke this man with any sort of action.

Though, the stack of papers hitting the table made him jump and sit up straight again. If he didn't feel so stuck to the chair he was sitting in, he surely would have fled the room. He really wanted to. He wanted to just leave and go the comfort of his room and not have to deal with this at all, but he didn't have a choice. His legs wouldn't move. So, instead, he cautiously moved his hand to the stack of papers and took them. To read what their first case together was going to be. This only seemed to anger the other agent, who then ripped the papers from Grayson's hand. "Those are confidential," He sneered.

Grayson looked at the agent confused, how was he supposed to do his job if he wasn't allowed to get the info for their case? Still, the glare he got back made him go back to looking at his food and mumble a quick, "Sorry." He guessed that that meant whatever information he needed had to come from Jaxson, which would make things difficult. Or perhaps, this other man was just asserting his dominance as those that felt threatened often felt the need to do. He didn't understand why anyone would feel threatened by him, it wasn't like he looked menacing or could somehow kill someone with the snap of his fingers. He was good with computers, but he couldn't just kill someone. Not that he ever did anyway, he stayed away from those that wanted people dead.

Jaxson watched his "fellow agent" with a scowl of distaste. God, how he hated this guy. Just who did he think he was coming into Jaxson's territory and imposing rules on Grayson. If anyone was going to tell the boy what to do, it would be him. Not some uptight noodle in a fancy suit. "If it's confidential-" the man stated, pulling the stack of papers from the most likely irritated agent and handing them back over to Grayson. "Then he has as much right to read them as I do, or how do you expect him to help me?" Jaxson's gaze met the agents for several long, tension packed seconds, his arms golfing defensively across his chest. "He's a hacker, not a mind reader." Agent Mark glared back at Jaxson with a disapproving huff, mimicking Jaxson'S stance of arm's across chest. Jax could tell the man was struggling to think of a comeback, not that it would change anything.

"Listen, you little brat-"

"No, you listen. I know the boss didn't send you here to impose rules on either of us. You were sent here to deliver the papers, and nowe that that's done. Please see yourself out." he finalized his statement with a gesture of his hand in the direction of the living room, as if the front door were open and waiting for him. The agent let out a quiet snarl, turning on his heels to head for the door, but not before leaning in close enough for both Grayson and Jaxson to hear him. "Sooner or later you will slip up, agent Lee, and when you do. I will be there to make sure everybody knows it." and added one last sharp glare in Grayson'S direction. Within a second he was out the door, the locks closing automatically behind him. "And I'll be here waiting for you to get hit by a truck." he muttered for no one but himself to hear, and maybe Grayson too. Jaxson strongly resisted the urge to roll his eyes into the back of his head and quickly turned his attention to the papers in Grayson's hands, dark eyes skimming over a couple of words.
"Alright, what's on our agenda, then?'

Jaxson was beyond excited about this case. It had been a while since he'd gone under cover, and he was told it would be necessary for this one. This was something Jax had somehow grown extremely skilled at. Not to mention this time he would have an extra pair of eyes and ears. As much as he knew he shouldn't be trusting Grayson so easily, he couldn't deny he was just a tad bit excited about the two of them working together. He just hoped he hadn't misjudged Grayson and the guy would end up completely screwing him over like many had done in the past. .

Re: A Quiet Guardian

I'm back!! And I did have fun :) I almost didn't wanna return

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Okay! I hope you have fun while you're away!

Re: A Quiet Guardian

No worries, I totally get it! I should have a post up tonight! Also, just a heads up, but I'm going out of the country for about a week starting this sunday. I might have WiFi but I might now. But I'll be back on the 28th

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Thanks for the good luck! I actually did very well on them, they weren't extremely hard though (they were open book) but I had to also do homework and ready chapters from the textbook with all of my finals, so that's why I just took the week to focus on that instead.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

It's alright hun, life happens. And finals are important, and also very stressful. Good luck tho, and I hope you ace them all!

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Okay!

Just to let you know it might be a while before I reply, I have finals this week and am going to try to focus on school.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Quick note: Feel free to control/use this Mark guy as much as you need. He can just be a shared npc until he leaves.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

No problem, thanks for keeping me updated! I know sometimes life gets in the way of fun things. Lol. Hope to hear from you soon, but don't feel rushed. You do what you can.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Thanks for the luck! I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to get a post up today. I ended up helping a friend clean her home because she had a pretty rough week and her roommate just doesn't clean. I'm going to try to get something up either tomorrow or Friday.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Alright, thanks for the heads up :) I'll keep a lookout for that. Good luck with all that homework.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Hey, just wanted to quickly give you a heads up. I've been stuck doing homework for a while and haven't really had much energy to do anything else. Then I have dungeons and dragons nights on Sundays and occasionally that means I end up at a friend's house until Tuesday, so I'm going to try and get you a post by Wednesday. Sorry for the wait.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Aww, hope you feel better! I guess I'm a couple of hours behind you then. Either way, I'm going to bed now too since I have work first thing tomorrow. Hope you like the post!

Re: A Quiet Guardian

It's okay, Grayson can get pretty sassy too, he's just got a lot of walls that are up at the moment.

I'm actually going to be heading off to bed soon myself since it's almost midnight where I am. I've got a headache that won't go away too so I'm gonna try to sleep it off. But, I'll be super excited to wake up and read your post.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Sounds like a plan! And no worries, we can make the cases up as we go just to leave something to chance. I will warn you though, the closer they get the more sass Jaxson will have. :P it's his charming point.

Anyways I'm home now, changed, fed my dogs and all that good stuff so expect a post from me real soon.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

That could be really cute! I love it. I've kind of got a good idea of where I want the story to head right now. I don't have any idea what I want to do for the cases they'll be doing but I'm thinking the general plot right now will go something like this:

  • Intro (them settling into their new house, having a bit of time to get to know each other)

  • Case #1

  • Getting Closer (probably when Jaxson would take Grayson to see his sister)

  • Case #2

  • More Bonding (Maybe some talking over their pasts and such)

  • The Big Case (Where Grayson gets kidnapped)

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Great! That'll just give Mr. Sassy pants another opportunity to not do what he's told. :D

Also, I thought of a cute idea for later on, maybe when they are a bit closer and share a good amount of trust in each other Jaxson surprises Gray by letting him leave the house and taking him to the hospital to see his sister. All in secret of bc course because he'd get his ass handed to him if the boss found out.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Yeah, I don't really think the boss will ever care about Grayson, considering the guy broke the law and broke into a lot of government secure networks with that information leaked to the public. I'm thinking this would be a good plot point for when these two have developed feelings for each other. We could give that little story a cute end with either Jaxson or Grayson confessing their love.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Oh, I love that! I'm all for Jax being the rebellious hero tbh. Lol! I'm assuming the boss won't care enough about Grayson to allow Jaxon to put himself at risk just to save him.

P
Btw, I should have a response up tonight as soon as I'm home from work

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Well, the only idea I have completely ironed out is that I want something to happen to Grayson later. I want to do something where Jaxson and Grayson are on a really important, pretty dangerous mission. In the middle of this mission, Grayson gets himself caught while hacking into the enemy system or by the enemy in some way. Possibly because his sister has gotten worse or has died and the boss didn't allow Grayson to back out of the mission to handle his personal life. Anyway, Jaxson is undercover while Grayson is being attacked, so Jaxson's kind of helpless and can only listen to the attack that is going on at their home right now. Since, they probably have a sort of communication device that the both of them wear to talk to one another during missions. Basically this leads to Grayson being kidnapped and Jaxson having to find him, and rescue him.

Re: A Quiet Guardian

Okay! Since it's still pretty early here I'm gonna try to get my first post up before bed. That way you can have an idea of what my writing style us and we can get to the juicy stuff quicker :'D

Also feel free to share your ideas at any time, even if they're meant for later.
