Personality Description: Although highly analytical, Chanath focuses all of his strength and precision on being poetic and tactful. Although he might have made a powerful mage, he considers music and poetry his swords and shield. Although he spent a great part of his life as a hunter, he maintains an air of prestige and learnedness no matter the surroundings. He holds onto civilization and politeness even after weeks of travelling and living in dirt. He tends to be a bit too overwhelmed with the poetry of the world around him, to the annoyance of those less interested in words. Although perfectly at home among high society, he's so awful with money that he can rarely stay in a town for long before he's in debt again. Because of this lack of money, he quickly reveals the less privileged side of him, gambling and stealing and generally being a crafty, manipulative rogue.
THE TALENTS
[Perfect] - [Excellent] - [Good] - [Above Average] - [Average] - [Below Average] - [Poor] - [Very Poor]
Combat Prowess
[Poor] Hand-to-Hand Combat: Being so accustomed to having one finger on an instrument and having some distance between him and the enemy, coming face to face with one tends to leave Chanath helpless. He'll put his energy into getting some distance or luring his assailant into a trap.
[Average] Melee Combat: Swordsmanship always seemed elegant to Chanath, but he has little formal training, and few instincts to elevate him to any great height. He can hold his own against an amateur.
[Good] Armed Combat: Although well trained with bows, he's done more damage with his sling, mostly because the tool used to launch it doubles as a cello bow, and thus is always on hand.
[Excellent] Magic Combat: His magical intuition is spot on, but the types of magic he's focused on all his life are rarely flashy, and tend to be used sparingly.
[Good] Mounted Combat: Chanath is at home atop a horse or on a boat, and the added height and distance is a blessing for him, however, it is more difficult to utilize his vibration based magic while on a horse.
Racial Abilities
[Perfect] Elven Longevity: Elves will, under proper circumstances, linger ever on, and can only die by real trauma. Diseases are considerably slowed for an elf, and usually pose no threat because of this. Elves tend to be very in tune with the world, which means changes in their environment can be a physical burden on them, and some can even die from things like broken hearts.
[Perfect] Elven Hearing: Say what you will about the ridiculous pointed ears, Elves have astounding hearing. Chanath himself excels even amongst elves in hearing, and uses it to tune his voice and instruments to the appropriate tone to work his unique brand of magic. Being able to hear conversations across rooms and the sound of approaching beasts is, to him, a secondary benefit.
[Above Average] Elven Grace: "Fairest of all the Races" rarely gets thrown around with orcs. He's quite pretty, with all that implies, though lately it seems as though his face has been pulled back taut over his skull.
Class Techniques
[Excellent] Healing Words Although the nature of the power is unknown, Chanath is capable of healing and empowering others with a power rooted in music. Although enough focus, power, and above all else, will, can actively heal things like an open wound, the nature of the magic tends to ward off infection, help with scarring, and bring the body back into natural alignment to heal itself rather than actively mending what's been hurt. It can also cause things like trees and animals to move more smoothly and ultimately brings an aura of calm over an area. It loses potency as it loses rhythm.
[Excellent] Suggestion A combination of natural charisma, powerful magic, and the vibrations of the universe allow Chanath to control bodily functions to some extent. Although this has been known to forcibly tame savage beasts, it is primarily used to disorient enemies and numb the pain of allies. Although there is potential for full-out mind control, the magic loses potency as it loses subtlety.
[Good] Inspiration The third of the trinity of vibration-based magics, this is the most direct, capable of, at its most powerful, physically damaging that around the caster. Tune and register are everything, and the effects are rarely accurate, often devastating areas around the caster, and even the caster himself, should he fall out of true with the vibrations he's targeting. The effects can be positive, like increased strength and agility, or negative, such as impeding blood flow or moving transient things in the environment (leaves and branches are particularly susceptible). It loses potency as it loses complexity.
Though these skills are technically part of the same root magic, it is tremendously difficult to use them at the same time. Vibration magic requires precision of tonality, and the effects tend to linger after they are cast, which keeps a bard from accessing differing powers in quick succession. Different instruments and different geography can affect this.
Learned Skills
Good Household Magic: The magic generally left to street performers and young apprentices, Chanath is fond of useful, applicable magic outside his primary vibration-based school of magic.
[Excellent] Camouflage: A talent picked up in his tenure as a hunter, Chanath is skilled at blending into his environment for protection and surprise attacks. Due to his general fragility, this has proved invaluable. He also relishes being able to observe rare fauna without disturbing them. He doesn't think it proper to talk about using it to spy on nobles or rig games of cards, just not at all proper to say.
[Excellent] Linguistics: Chanath is a cunning linguist, capable of learning and speaking a plethora of tongues, as well as understanding the cultures that surround them, making him a skilled ambassador.
STATISTICS
[Perfect] - [Excellent] - [Good] - [Above Average] - [Average] - [Below Average] - [Poor] - [Very Poor]
[Excellent] Hunting & Tracking: Chanath spent a great deal of time as a hunter for a High House, and is well acquainted with how to track, capture, and dress a target in woods, fields, and mountains.
[Good] Survival: Somewhere between an elven fear of death and a natural affinity for living off the land and living well makes Chanath a very capable survivalist. He tends to work slowly, but surely. Otherwise inhospitable territory and people will gradually fall under his calm, luxurious lifestyle. Cool headed, and deeply in tune with nature, it's difficult to find Chanath in a situation he cannot smooth over given enough time. Bobcats might cause trouble, though.
[Excellent] Stealth & Guile: Chanath is enormously talented at hiding in plain sight, capable of blending in well with trees, as well as dissolving suspicion towards him. Being an ambassador and hunter, he's no stranger to the world of social intrigue, and very capable of disguising his identity, and has a way with words to sweep suspicion away from himself, even in places where he's a wanted criminal.
[Excellent] Barter: Chanath's already charismatic personality is amplified considerably by his magical capabilities - regardless - he's very good at convincing people to lower the price. Sufficiently crafty adversaries will be able to resist this, however.
[Poor] Leadership: Despite being capable of increasing endorphins and being a talented speaker, Chanath lacks much of the direction and willpower necessary to be a good leader.
[Excellent] Tact: In any situation, Chanath's mind is turned immediately to smoothing over conflict and calming the mind. He's well versed in diplomacy and espionage, and knows how to dance without stepping on toes.
[Poor] Honor: Being a freelance bard of an already ill-defined school, Chanath has no real loyalties to anyone.
[Average] Courage: There is a certain courage to stand back and sing in the face of turmoil... but not much.
[Poor] Bloodthirst: Generally, Chanath has no real desire to kill anything. He's certainly not averse to the idea, but he tries to avoid conflict, so killing isn't the first thing on his mind. He is an evader. This tends to change considerably when his own life is on the line.
[Very Poor] Wealth: Chanath, for all his tact and soothing words and sweet music is flat broke, and a reckless spender to boot.

CLOTHING & ARMOR
Head
Although he once wore a type of elven diadem used to secure a hood on his head, as well as to mark his loyalty to his King, he has abandon it along with his loyalties, and now simply wears a hood on his head, with his hair grown out long, and usually knotted and kept pulled back, accentuating his stretched facial figure.
Neck
A few things are kept hanging around Chanath's neck at all times. A small vial of salt, a bag of spices, a bit of gold, and a polished pan flute.
Chest
Chanath binds even his plainest traveling cloaks with a special iron brooch with the symbol of the Tauria college. Although he is not necessarily still a part of that school, the insignia still has much weight in the world of nobility. Quite fond of layers, his tunic can conceal a simple leather vest, or it can be worn openly. His clothing becomes finer and heavier when he is in cities or towns, sometimes even acquiring metal plating.
Back
Chanath has a great fondness for cloaks and robes, but understands that, when traveling, efficiency is required. Always elegant, however, Chanath will wear traveling robes done up in more flamboyant elf-inspired high fashion, draped around him. When traveling he carries a shortbow on his back, as well as a long bass flute.
Arm/Shoulder
Leather bracers on his arms conceal a variety of small tools, pens, brushes, and inkstones. Small tubes used either for firing small darts or whistling shrill notes, and
Right Hand
If not using a flute, or his bow, or his instrument bow, or his lyre, or any of the other plethora of instruments he so often utilizes, he's most likely using his short sword, or perhaps a crossbow. No idea where he got a crossbow from, you should get that away from him, he'll put an eye out.
Left Hand
He tends to carry either his lyre or a book in his left hand, even when fighting. The book, a frequently refreshed journal of his, contains melodies, enchantments, and simple survival guides, as well as having a solid metal and leather binding. The lyre is elegant, light, and almost eery to listen to.
Right Accessory
A fake money bag, some vials of polish, herbs, spices, and two or three tuning forks are all he keeps at his right side.
Left Accessory
Chanath wields three different sheaths at his left side. One is a simple, small, sharp sword that dulls quickly and is used more for prepping food than fighting, another holds a cleverly designed, albeit bizarre stiff sling-like weapon which doubles as a bow for string instruments, and the third holds small bolts, darts, and arrows, and hugs closely to his thigh.
Waist
His broad leather belt is overburdened with tiny sacks and leatherbound vial. When trying to be stealthy he keeps these things in his bag, but when in the city the jingling about his waist is considered a sign of friendliness to nobility. A man who jingles when he walks makes a poor assassin.
Legs
Preferring robes that hang from the shoulders and loftier faux-elven styles, his legs are usually covered by tunics and robes, and he prefers it that way, always preferring to go bare, though sometimes wearing leather bracers.
Feet
He very frequently sells his shoes, and thus goes barefoot, but recently he's taken to a pair of leather moccasins which, though unfit for any high court, do well for traveling.
BACKGROUND
Marital Status Single
Relatives Parents are almost certainly dead, and any sibling are prohibitively distant.
Birthplace Paptavequesse, one of many "forbidden" cities of the elves, though this one is unknown in these parts, and could in fact be mythical or long since destroyed.
Occupation
Bard of the Tauria school, which is famous for producing ambassadors and courtiers, and having a pristine image. However, Chanath is a freelance bard, and therefore does not necessarily hold onto the code of conduct observed by the Tauria school.
Recruitment
Chathan was sent to oversee the group of adventurers chosen to defeat the golem, both for his supposed loyalty, and a deep interest he had shown in the nature of a golem. Although dislike by the group for his haughty city past, he was, in his youth, a hunter, and was able to fend for himself. His memory for stories and poetry made for beautiful nights, and when it finally came to face the great rock beast, he revealed the power his music had, helping to shatter and immobilize the enemy, and empowering the band of fighters.
Bio/History
Never long in one place, transitioning into the life of a traveler was not difficult for Chanath, and has kept him from ruining his own reputation amongst the courts of nobility. His interest in the Collossi is unknown, though he says he just wants to study them, he has no qualms in destroying them. His records, which contain mostly poetry and songs, tends to have him waxing philosophic when he looks back on his travels. Though he's never held onto money, he's used to a certain level of gentility, and uses his more practical skills to remain comfortable. Although he's not necessarily the most valued of the group, he has forged a strong friendship with them. Though they rarely want to hear of their own exploits, he keeps constant records of their journeys in the form of epic poetry and short sonnets. Mostly he focuses on the local mythology and great tales, particularly as some of the better ones contain some inherent power to them which lesser bards can only imitate, and Chanath hopes to truly delve into and ultimately recreate.
