Age: Roughly two-thousand in human years, though in his realm he is considered a man in his prime, roughly the equivalent of 30 years or so old.
Role: Visitor
Physical Description: The realm which River comes from shares many similarities to Earth. The beings that inhabit it strongly resemble humans, though there is a wider array of coloring than on Earth. Also, clothing is quite different, naturally. As on Earth, there are different regions, and they all have their own manners of dress, though none can easily be compared to Terran standards.
He is aesthetically human, though his appearance and the style of dress he has adopted are very unlike that of the Victorian-esque world he has recently traveled to. His hair is black and hangs past his shoulder blades, tied back at the nape of his neck. It has a rough texture and a bit of curl to it. His skin is a burnished, dusky brown, and his eyes are dark. He has a square jaw, a long, slightly crooked nose from being broken during a tour on Earth, and almond-shaped eyes. He is of average height for his realm, which is about six feet, and he has a medium build.
His attire stands out garishly in the slightly prudish Victorian society. He wears dark pants and a brightly dyed purple robe with a mandarin collar that hangs open, revealing his bare chest. His shoes are somewhat like the slippers of Arabian sultans; gold and with a slightly curling tip. He also has a small golden hoop running through his ear, and dark, rune-like tattoos cover his arms and torso. These runes are from many different languages, realms, and periods of time. Some include Arabic, Cuneiform, traditional Pagan symbols, and Hebrew.
His cold facade is matched with a well-oiled sense of humor that particularly stands out in the form of sarcasm. He usually has a quick retort for anyone, and he doesn't make friends easily. He does occasionally get along with humans, but the sweet, gentle ones agitate and confuse him. Kindness, to River, seems like a trick. He's unwilling to accept help from anyone, always assuming they want something in return. As a Visitor, that has usually been the case. "Do this for me, River, and I'll give you that," is a common phrase he has heard, and what Visitor hasn't?
More than anything else he looks out for himself, and his own good time is a priority, even when it causes others to suffer. He has a sharp wit and a sharper tongue, and he has a strong tendency to regard humans as inferior. Summoners in particular he tends to despise, as he views them as poor impersonators of magic’s potential. He thinks magic should be left in the hands of Visitors, and that humans have no right to magic’s possibilities.
Powers and Abilities: Glamour is a common trick used by Visitors, even ones such as River who physically appear human. When a regular human passes by him on the street, they see not a man in distinctly foreign garb, but whatever they would find least surprising. Some see an old man hobbling along with a cane, others see a little girl playing with a doll. Every once in a while, a human will let their minds relax, and they will see a flash of River without his glamour. Usually they blink a few times, look again, and write off the odd sight as a trick of the eye. Summoners, as well as those who are aware of such glamours and know how to bring down the mental shield humans have built up, are able to see past the illusion.
River has two abilities that he particularly enjoys and thrives at. One is the animation of inanimate objects. He can easily seem to "bring to life" a doll or a puppet and make it do a merry little dance. Or, he can make a doll's jointed fingers clench around a harmless, beautiful butterfly and pull off its wings.
His second "gift" is not unusual among Visitors. Most Visitors, from almost all the worlds, have at least a fundamental knowledge of how to control the elements. River is no different, and contrary to his namesake, he enjoys playing with smoke and fire. This power is much easier to wield with the use of his staff, which is a long, gnarled piece of wood with an amber-colored orb on the end. Though he can produce magic unassisted, the results are much stronger and more precise with his staff, to which he is very attached. On some occasions he is forced to hand over his staff to perform certain tasks, but he will only ever give it to his current Summoner.
Profession: None
Contract Status: Summoned by Amelia Roscoe
Any Other Info:River has been summoned many times, to Earth as well as other worlds. Years ago, he was summoned by a man named Lewis, whom he managed to con. He now possesses that man's soul, and it is trapped in the orb of his staff, enhancing his magical ability.
